  • How to replace the ignition coils, spark plugs and spark plug wires on 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally edition (is same for ES etc.).
    I use the NGK BKR5E-11 (V-Power) spark plugs and OEM coils.
    The spark plug gap is .044 for our car.
    It's so easy, basically anyone can do it.

      Hey Ray Bohn I'm sorry I don't know off the top of my head. Should be easy enough to look at the spark plugs and see if each one has a coil sitting on top of it or trace the plug wires back to the coil packs and see if it has 2, 3, 6 etc
      Thanks!

    Hi friend I like your video, my 2003 lancer trimble while engine working I unplugged the third wire plug and no changes the motor did. What may be the cause?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's pretty common for these engines to idle rough and weak. If it's really bad, I'd check the motor and transmission mounts and see if they are tight and not busted. Thanks!

      Sounds like either a bad spark plug or dead coil.

    What if i need to change one of the connections that hooks to the coil?????? Do i have to buy the entire huge connection that connects to everything else?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey +nelson arias
      Thanks so much for your comment
      You'll be just fine to go to a junkyard and find the connector and cut the wire long and then just splice it on your car by cutting the connector off your car close to the coil (so there's plenty of wire length left) and splicing it in.
      Make sure to match up the contacts and see if the wires are the same color and if they aren't match which will go to which.

    So my lancer ralliart has been misfiring on the third gear, where it would just rev but the speed won’t pick up until I lift up my foot from the gas and press again in order for it to go to the next gear I’m guessing, I was wondering how I could fix this

    • @bobz4
      @bobz4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      did you ever get it fixed? im guessing it was the ignition coil possibly?

  • @djparsons5008

    why did you add a grounding wire to the coil ? do these motors not ground the coils good?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question Dj Parsons, thanks so much for asking!
      The reason to add a after market grounding kit is because over time your factory grounds can deteriorate and break down. This can cause loss in power, radio noise and even vehicle fires.
      I added about 8 new grounds to different places and the one on the coils is to make sure there's a good ground going to them for the best spark.
      It more preventative maintenance than anything.
      Thnaks!

    i have a question i have a 2002 o-z rally. i recently started loosing power. like when i go from stop and step on the gas its like choking or something. also i was shifting into drivd and there was a loud bang. any thoughts? really needing help.

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jordan Valdivia Sorry for the late reply.
      My first guess would be to check for check engine codes and replace the spark plugs. But aside from tuneup I'm not sure.
      Have you figured it out yet?

    • @jordanvaldivia8990
      @jordanvaldivia8990 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Micah G Robinson hey bro no problem. i changed the plugs and there is no engine light on or any codes popping. replaced the O2 too. its only on take of that it has no power like wants to die. but once its going i can press jnto the gas and it goes great.

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man, I'll have to think through that but nothing is coming to mind as to what it could be yet.
      May find a Mitsu mechanic to look at it. Could maybe be a bad gasket on the intake side or exhaust possibly too I'm thinking. But not a issue I have a lot of experience with sadly.

    This car have 2 ignition coils ? Should I change both when changing or just one ?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have the money, it's a good idea to replace both if they're both old.
      Alternatively you can check and see which one is bad with a multi-meter and check the OHMS and compare it to what they're supposed to be.
      That will tell you for sure.

    how do you know a coil is bad on a 2.4 liter eclipse?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      james3000gt There is a way to check with a multimeter checking the resistance of the coil. I don't know what it should be for your car... here's a video that explains this method; th-cam.com/video/UxcO9d9FATs/w-d-xo.html
      You could also buy replacements and replace yours and if it doesn't fix you problem return them right away to your local shop you bought them from.

    I have a Mitsubishi Galant from 2001, I pulled out the coil pack to see the sparkplug. After placing them back the engine wouldn’t start anymore. What am I doing wrong?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I think that sounds like an issue with either the new plugs or coils.
      Can you ensure the coils are plugged in the proper order and all making good contact?
      Also ensure that the new plugs are gapped to the correct gap?

    • @AndreasPrein
      @AndreasPrein 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mci2727 I didn’t replaced anything. That’s the weird part. I just placed Back the old parts. I just bought the car and wanted to check the sparkplug. But once I pulled out the coil pack I realized I did not have anything to get the sparkplug out…. So I placed the coil pack back. But now it won’t start anymore😬

    Question. On a 2001Mitsu Galant my son owns. Hes says the car wont start and when it does its blowing the fuse. They searched for open lines or a short and couldnt find one. Mentioned that he thinks it may be the plugs. Plugs not gapped right might cause spitting or misfires but not pop fuses. You think it maybe the Ignition coils?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bad ignition coil could for sure blow a fuse. It could be any number of things though unfortunately.
      What fuse is it?

    Don’t listen to this guy. Most of the info is correct, but DO NOT USE ANTI SIEZE ON SPARK PLUGS. It changes the torque value up to 20% so you can very easily overthread it and ruin the spark plug. Factory’s always install spark plugs dry and you should as well.

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been happily using anti-seize on spark plugs for over 15 years, never had a single issue. The times I don't use it I regret it (if I have to take them out down the road). No issues. Thanks
