a few years ago a baby dove fell out of the nest way too early in my back yard, its eyes werent even open yet and it had a cut on his head. i had a hunting dog that would have killed it the moment he saw it. i took the little dove in my home and made sure it was kept warm, fed it by hand until it opened its eyes and could see. i took it outside everyday and when it was older i left it out for a while and when i came back to check on it, he flapped its wings in excitement and ran to me when he saw me. and when he grew his adult feathers i taught him how to fly by having him sit on my finger and move through the air, letting him flap his wings, eventually having him 'fall' a foot off the ground and getting higher and higher. it was such a precious experience to help this dove get better. one day he flew away and found his family, saw him sitting on my fence a day or two later with another dove and i knew it was him by the ruffled feathers on his head where his injury was. sad to know they have such a low life expectancy when born, but i gave him fighting chance. odd how a random 8-9 year old video can make you remember these things

xtremeownage2 So disliking a video means compassion? Is that what you're saying? Well then I should dislike every video when I feel compassionate about something.
Only the parents would have the context and life experience needed to know that this wasn’t a normal outcome. There is probably also, on some level, a sense of failure.
You people actually need to read the description before you type stuff. Like, quit blaming the parents. It was a mite infestation. The parent couldn’t have done anything. Like holy crap..
TheRandomGuy Finally, like fr it isnt een hard to read the description either. Hell he even typed it in the video its not hard what so ever to miss. People dont ecen read the descriptions anymore they just type what they want. Its so annoying at this point
Jennifer Dutcher Sorry didn’t know incompetent people like you get triggered that easily. I’ll rewrite it in words you can understand. “The tiny bugs made the birdies go away sadly. The mommy and daddy bird did not do anything bad to the baby birdies. When the parents looked at the dead birdies they got really sad.” Good enough for you?
+Bella Weber wow ur stupid birds have reflexes to its not like the world is made of robots that's like saying a godamn human can't murder someone cause they are the same species
Pigeons (doves) are extremely intelligent. They’ve been taught to recognize enemies faces during wars and then carry information back to the soldiers. I never knew they were so smart! So it does t surprise me to see this....if people just slowed down and actually took the time to observe , maybe we would have so much more respect for animals. They are just tying to survive ,like we are :)
Well, if doves are so smart, I guess my doves are.. let's just say below average. They can't seem to find out why they can't land on the walls of the cage like their budgie friends.
I'd like to mention that repeated use of nest sites increases the number of mites and leads to higher chick morality. The mites survive from year to year, and build up numbers. This is the main reason that birds switch nest sites from year to year, or build new nests. The babies probably died because of the mites. As a human, one of the things you can do to help is to dispose of the old nest, or clear out the lamp, so that the mites can stop building up.
Look at the poor parent dove panicking 5:12 I really wish you could've saved them.. I remember one time there was drama going on with these baby birds... the parent birds were gone when they tried to learn to fly so they fell down, and they weren't able to get back up. Plus this rando bird was near the nest intently watching them. We were afraid it was a predator so we hid the baby birds under a piece of bark and protected them from the nearing random bird. (Who we knew it wasn't the parents because it had different markings and was bigger) So I don't remember most of it because I had to go somewhere... But my dad tried to save them because the parents never came back and they were getting weaker. So 2 of them ended up dying. But one of them... he says... jumped off the shed roof and learned to fly. It flew away and never returned and he buried its 2 siblings and gave them gravestones and a proper funeral. Simply amazing :'(
@@solareclipse9379 Most birds breed with 1 mate their entire lives. That's far from stupid. They also don't continue to eat things that get them sick (like humans with drugs.). They build their own nests (homes) most humans can't even cook their own meals anymore. Animals are alot smarter than us humans 100. They also don't kill their baby's (they don't say oh it's just a fetus).
Anyone who's confused about the video, before making assumptions and bashing on the OP, PLEASE read the description for fucks sake. It explains why the baby birds die and provides some interesting info.
As a parent I can't imagine how they feel and yes i am one of those people who believe 100% that animals have feeling if a creature breathes has a heart and brian then it does have feelings
People are saying it's fake but sorry to say it's not fake, that is a male and a female. Stop saying it's a male and a male, and people stop hating not fake and they died by mites! READ DESC.!
Even if they were male and male, it's not as if gay birds don't exist. I don't know about doves specifically, but there are tons of cases in other species of male couples mating with a female just to get eggs, and then raising the eggs without her. Strange that people need to go to weird lengths to try to disprove a simple biology documentation. These kinds of videos are important for helping us understand how to nurture the wildlife around us.
What's really sad is how these birds are better parents then 38% or more than human parents. They also show more empathy than most humans. Poor birdies.

Mom- Ok Honey I'm gonna get some food For the kids be right back Dad-... OH GOD NO PLZ BE ALIVE PLZ NO I'LL REVIVE YOU!!! *Continues to drastically peck at his chicks*
My dad raises rare doves for a living. He says the heat lamp you have set U for them is too close. It exhausts the little ones. That's how they died. The orange glow of the birds is an indicator that the lamp or light is far too close
I don't think that's a heat lamp. I think they're nesting in his outdoor lamp just because it's a good shape to hold the nest, and I don't think he turns it on while they're nesting. It wasn't on in any of the footage.
The video is so beautiful, yet heartbreaking. I have mourning doves who feed at and around my feeders and I enjoy watching them and hearing them. They make their nests in my wooded areas. I'm on my porch listening to them now❤️
Two years ago a baby Hollywood Finch fell from its nest in the roof of my apartment complex and I raised it. The Mama was beside herself - she saw the baby in my kitchen and came right to the windowsill, demanding the return of her baby for 20 minutes. The roof was 20 feet up and I could not return the baby safely, nor was she going to be able to get the baby back up herself, and there was a cat, so the baby could not be left near the ground. For four weeks, the father would perch intermittently on the pool railing across from my window and call to the baby. He had red feathers and was easy to distinguish from the mother. He would talk to the baby for 5 or so minutes almost daily, and she would talk back. She made it to adulthood and was successfully released but I'll never forget how obviously frantic and concerned her parents were. We underestimate birds and animals and even insects (I once saw a yellow jacket bee react with obvious horror and sadness to finding one of his friends swatted and dead on the ground - he eventually picked up the body and carried it away). Underestimating them makes it easy to justify not caring about their lives. That is sad for both them and us.
Some people are so rude. The comments here are just beyond rude. Mr. Goodpasture is kind enough to post a very interesting video of nature as it happens sometimes. Life can be cruel but the comments posted here by ignorant folks that can't appreciate the effort put into this video are unbelievable. The video was very educational and was something most of us would never see or even know about. The time it took to edit this and post it should be appreciated not ridiculed. Folks complaining about the music and making other asinine comments need to just move on if they don't like the video. There's no need to make rude comments. Before you know it no one is going to post anything on TH-cam for fear of being insulted. Why go to the trouble to post a video if you're only going to be insulted. I enjoyed the video very much and appreciated the effort it took to post it. Thank you Victor.
Thank you Jack Robinson! As I've said in my previous comments, I never even saw the mites during original filming. Only after posting did someone point out the mites. Also, I was unaware that these nests should be cleaned out since previously used nests didn't have mite problems. For those who said I should have "done something" or "saved the babies," there is NOTHING I could have done. These are wild animals, and the babies have EXTREMELY particular food requirements that I never could have provided. In the end, we witnessed nature at its cruelest. Someone previously posted that life is not a Disney movie. Indeed. Finally, for anyone who thinks I "enjoy" putting this together, I did not. If you look at my other videos, you can see I'd much rather do a fun time lapse or a video like I did with family of Robins. (I'll post that shortly).
Why y’all hating on jack? He is the one trying to APPRECIATE this man taking time to record this! It’s not his fault he didn’t put music to YOUR taste! If you don’t like it so much than just LEAVE and don’t be selfish! You shouldn’t have commented either! Poor birds!
It is a sad thing but it's life. My teachers apparently don't understand that when a chick dies and the parents can't save it. She yells the mother and father could've save it but they couldn't, there was no possible way in their power to save it. Why cry about life. It's the circle of life. We've seen things die before. Crying about it isn't what that creatures soul would want you to do. The spirit wants you to laugh and be happy when you think about them. This is true people, I'm a kid and I know this because I have experienced this before. Seeing death take place. It's a sad thing, but that spirit wants you happy that it can't suffer anymore. So be happy when you think of some one or something in your life that you love that's died. They want you to smile when you think back on when they were alive
Wow, that was powerful stuff. Birds aren't 'bird-brained'. Though their brains are small, they have triple the neuronal density. So birds are plenty smart for their size. The fact that they grieve, and also have a sense of 'play' indicates emotional intelligence.
You're right I want seen a chicken try to kill the cat that was trying to kill her little ones I'm not talkin she was defending them she actually went and got revenge on him when he was dying the cat got hit by a car with died on the road and the chicken ran out and tried to take revenge
It's incredible to see how hard they tried to revive the chicks. So sad that the mites infested the nest so aggressively like that😟 The poor featherless chicks didn't have a chance. Thanks for documenting this, it was so interesting to observe the behavior so up close like that. Nature definitely has its ups and downs. This was hopefully a learning experience for the dove parents. I hope they learned to not lay eggs where there are mites next time. Thanks again.
At my school on top of the lockers by the girls bathroom, a pigeon made a nest there and sat there for like a few days or weeks. Everyone that had their classes near the nest noticed the bird, and they left her be. Eventually the eggs hatched and there were three originally(one died somehow.) So the mom kept feeding them and we all saw and these kids were running in and out of the bathroom to annoy the mother. Our english teacher got P I S S E D and said if anyone saw anyone going near the birds to touch them, they would get in big trouble. People stop listening and people started not to care. The birds got bigger and bigger. Soon, there were only a few people that cared for the birds. Some people even put posters on the lockers that said: “ PLEASE LEAVE THE BIRDS ALONE.” There was this one girl, her name was Mia and she would always sit there watching the birds making sure nobody interrupted the birds. Thanks to her, they are now big birdies now ;D
Tayyab Imtiaz Khan LoL I think its so funny😂😂😂😂 because that would be my same reaction if I was a parent bird and my babies died but I would be male and I would say this to the female OMG well wanna make more babies😏😏😏
It surprises me to see people going out of their way to help doves or pidgeons reproduce even more. They're already a plague of dastardly, dirty birdies. If anything we should prevent them from building any more nests. Those mites deserve a medal.
We had doves take over a robin's nest. We called them Pete and Claire. The robins did not like us opening our door, and the nest was above our light! Pete and Claire were less shy and I could sit on my stoop while she was in the nest. Many times Pete sat on top of my husband's car and just watched. They came back three years in a row. Then yellow-jackets took the nest while we were on vacation. Yikes! Not a nice homecoming. 🕊 🕊 🐝 🐝 🐝 🐝 I still miss Pete and Claire. They were nice neighbors. 😊
I had a nest right in front of my main door. But the pigeon couple were a little different. They took turns while hatching but after hatching, the chicks would be on their own during night and both would return in the morning to feed. One chick died but the other one survived. The most endearing part was when both the parents take turns to teach the lil chick to fly. It went on for almost a fortnight and then the baby was on its own. Never returned to the same nest. So much to learn from these incredible creation of Nature.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful close up look at something which occurs all around us but is seldom witnessed. I really don't see why folks can't be a little kinder with comments. You were thoughtful enough to share and I truly appreciate it. I love doves and seeing this shows me a behavior which makes me love them even more.
I agree. We are so used to the whitwashed version of Mother Nature. Thx for the refreshing reality. And I liked the music too! and the insight re equipment! I had doves brood hatch and fly off successfully a few years back at a corner alcove so appreciated my little birdies success even more now! Too bad an intruder ripped apart their second next, never to return....
Awe this was sad ...poor wee things. I hope the next time the parents are more successful. I read some comments below and was astonished at some folks' lack of compassion. Gosh cant some people be sick? sigh...anyway this showed that creatures care about their young just like we do, sometimes more in fact as seen by some of the heartless comments below. Don't know what kind of Mama's some of these people had but she certainly wasn't the nurturing kind for them to turn out so damned heartless and lacking in basic humanity.
I think that the reason the babies kept dying is because of the location of the nest. If you look closely, you can tell the nest was located atop a halogen lamp with the bulb in it. Even though the bulb was not turned on, the glass from which it is made is quartz. I believe those babies had no chance for this reason. The bulb didn't even have to be turned on to emit the toxic gases/chemicals. Most likely, it was used at one time but the gases are still inside the bulb, even though turned off. Halogen light bulbs use halogen gases inside them. The inert gases like argon, neon, xenon, krypton as well as the halogen gases are used in the lightning systems. In some high performance light bulbs, inert and halogen gases are mixed to produce more efficiency. We don't know if this type of bulb was the case with this halogen bulb but bulbs, like anything, don't necessarily need to be "on" to produce effects, particularly for newly hatched birds. Humans are told not to touch Halogen bulbs because of the oils and what the oils do to the glass it's made from. Birds have plenty of natural "oils" on them which might effect the Halogen glass and weaken it. If that is the case, it's possible that this contributed to their demise, not just these babies but the ones that also hatched prior to these. The owner would be wise to remove the lamp and provide a better and more suitable, nature-friendly alternative that gives the birds what the lamp did: height. Also, use a safer, less toxic nesting pot or ledge.
Thank you for posting this! We have a nesting pair just outside our window. Five successful broods so far. After the current one, I will definitely freshen up the nesting material as the vet suggests.
I live with the wild ....if that nest was not in a tray the poo would normally hit the ground. There would be less area for mites to be exept on the host or left overs as they feed of dead cells/skin which birds shed.after a period of time they have the perfect place to have their offspring/larva on those baby birds...these birds don't nest like that :/ no wonder they keep dying maybe try and replace that with a three prong branch and just some sticks so they can build naturally and poo off the side and on to the ground :)
I was wondering about mites too...or worms The parents don’t seem to be bothered or overpreening, but as one learns more one realizes how much there is to find out. The world is changing so fast, it’s hard to know when to believe experience based observations; when to know not to assume “I’ve got this.” It’s all changing in front of us. Frontline insecticide doesn’t help, either, considering parent birds are trying to arrange some protein for their chicks...😦
It was so sad when the father was trying everything he could to revive his children, but nothing happened.

@@Sharkenite lol glad u got a laugh out of it
I'd like to mention that repeated use of nest sites increases the number of mites and leads to higher chick morality.
I agree and I've done that. Since then, robins built their own nest and successfully raised four chicks.
Look at the poor parent dove panicking 5:12
I really wish you could've saved them.. Simply amazing :'(
Kitten Budd Your Dad is a great man for burying those baby birds.

Too sad for so good parents. What is different between doves and humans? Answer: The dove parents don't start to blame each others.
Because they are stupid birds, not a humans.
Solar Eclipse
it’s ironic how you said that birds are stupid, then you said,”not a humans”
I was watching to see if the mother would attack the father but she didn’t seem to blame him.
Bravo Deepa! No wonder his name is Solar Eclipse..Change it to Mental Eclipse...lol.
Moral of the story : don't step on your kids because they will die and possibly u too.
Good thing that didn't actually happen
Actual moral: clean your damn house before your children gets infection.

I told you guys, fake and gay.
These kinds of videos are important for helping us understand how to nurture the wildlife around us.
gotta problem with gay doves?

Devoted to the very end. What loving parents these two doves were and will continue to be.
My dad raises rare doves for a living. He says the heat lamp you have set U for them is too close. It exhausts the little ones. That's how they died. The orange glow of the birds is an indicator that the lamp or light is far too close
Audra Clementine No, read the description.
oh sehuñorita her reply is to the description you dimwit!
I don't think that's a heat lamp. I think they're nesting in his outdoor lamp just because it's a good shape to hold the nest, and I don't think he turns it on while they're nesting. It wasn't on in any of the footage.
Luke Robin if it is then a bird won't nest there
I respect your opinion but your 'insult' was not necessary. The original comment does not state whether or not it is replying to the description.
Jack Robinson lol shut up
Thank you Jack Robinson!

Awe this was sad ...poor wee things. I hope the next time the parents are more successful. I read some comments below and was astonished at some folks' lack of compassion.

I NOTICED SOMETHING WRONG WHEN THE MUSIC CHANGED!
The perfect answer
off grid Phyllis mathison yes was thinking similiar...
GOOD IDEA OP
I was wondering about mites too...or worms
The parents don’t seem to be bothered or overpreening, but as one learns more one realizes how much there is to find out. The world is changing so fast, it’s hard to know when to believe experience based observations; when to know not to assume “I’ve got this.”
It’s all changing in front of us.
Frontline insecticide doesn’t help, either, considering parent birds are trying to arrange some protein for their chicks...😦
Such a good point!! I didn’t think of that, but you’re right.
It kinda scares me how they just...died. It spooked me a little watching them just die like that
That's what malnutrition can do. It happens in humans too.
