- it was snowing with freezing temperatures and the raccoons were super hungry and knew they had to stock up for the long winter.
I am a retired RCMP Officer living in a rural setting in Nova Scotia, Canada. I spend my time enjoying nature and feeding my furry friends, the raccoons. I also feed the deer in the winter months and many varieties of birds. I have two rescue cats named Connor and Charlotte. Raccoon Whisperer™ is protected under trademark law & is owned/operated by James Blackwood IT IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED TO FILM OR UPLOAD ANY VIDEO OF RACCOON WHISPERER™ WITHOUT PRIOR WRITTEN CONSENT JAMES BLACKWOOD AKA RACCOON WHISPERER™.
All this took was for one raccoon to say to another, "I know a guy".

Wild animals don't need our help, they belong to nature and if they don't have food, they will die and feed other living things. This is how nature has worked for thousands of years and everything must be balanced. This guy is feeding the raccoons and you might think that's good, he's clearly well intentioned, but maybe because no raccoons are dying this winter, maybe some of the scavenging birds will die and won't be able to keep up the descent to clean future animal carcasses.

I could be the next owner of this raccoon heaven ! I hate the one to buy this place and chase them out. They are at home There and YOU ARE THE unwelcome if you dont respect them. If ive understand this story. He pledge to take care of the racoon that his wife have adopted, feed and had friends. but she die and now he took the responsability for the loving memories of his wife.. One sick one showing up for feeding time, he'll have way fewer showing up... The "animals gotta eat" crowd in my town feed the ducks & geese like crazy, causing them to congregate in numbers like this, instead of spreading out and foraging. Local bird epidemic took out 2/3 of them a couple years ago. Which just made the feeders redouble their efforts to "help them come back" despite DNR, parks department, veterinarians, and citizens tired of having picnics attacked by geese & stepping in goose poop asking them not to. Even fines issued by the city didn't dissuade them, or educate then that they caused the die-off.

I had 3 Racoons come to my house. Knowing better I feed them a few days. It multiplied to 15-20. When you don't feed them they get mad and rip screens off windows etc. They destroy everything. They get everything muddy if it rains. Yes, I know better. Now thats reinforced. I will not feed any wild animals. Plus, the babies don't learn to hunt as good, its easier if someone feeds them! They do carry parasites and diseases. They are so so cute though!!! Fun to watch the way they have to touch everything. I understand how this gentleman got roped in!

I had one over 20 years ago that came up every night for a hotdog. I named him Gilbert. About 2 weeks later, he brought his wife and 2 baby racoons. LOL!
Same thing happened to us. We fed a single male for 3 nights in a row...next night he brought his wife who seemed a lot bigger than him. Like a week later there were 5 tiny ones following along!
Shortly after that he disappeared but the rest of them stuck around for a long time.

Racoons put on a lot of weight for the winter. We have some huge ones around here during the cold months. If I'm not mistaken they can sleep for up to 4-6 weeks at a time during the winter. Which is why you hardly ever see them this big

I lived with a raccoon when I was about 12. He was a cool fella. When he was fully grown he wanted out. And I lived on 10 acres in the middle if a few hundred acres. It had 3 little ponds and a creek so he had a good place to live. Every few nights he came to visit with a few new friends. So I kept feeding him for months.
Man goes outside to feed and pet 25 raccoons.
Goes inside to yell at the cat.
Goes BACK outside to see how the raccoons like the taste of the food.

They’re pretty average adult raccoons. You’d be shocked at how big a tamed pet raccoon can get.
