Here's a little montage which takes us from an empty nest box to first egg. The British Trust for Ornithology has a BlueTit Diary page which sets out their nesting and breeding habits - www.bto.org/un... - and states that usually blue tits spend between one and two weeks building their nest. Some even build their nest in only a few days. Our female took between 6 and 7 weeks! Such a perfectionist. It might go some way to explain why this nest was so deep!
BTW As of the 7th June the parents have been spotted still feeding the fledged chicks in the garden.
The follow up - First Egg hatching to Fledging - is now available here - th-cam.com/video/txCB6REY-1w/w-d-xo.html

I remember in third grade my teacher taught us the birds built up their nests with hair if they could find any. We had Robins all around our property. I went home and cut all the hair off of all of my My Little Pony’s and spread it all over the yard. The following year my sister and I found a nest in one of my Grandmothers bushes that was laced with blue, pink, and green hair. I will never forget that.

My grandmother told us girls to nvr brush our hair outdoors. Birds will make a nest out of it and that will give us headaches. I think it was a tale to keep girls from brushing their hair outside. It might be too enticing to men. Hair was nvr cut and reached past waist.

Its a He not a she males are responsible for making the nest
@@alexmichaelseepersaud6633 oh didn't know that cool
Yep, it doesn’t get any better than this without going into captivity.
Compared to a nest in a tree or in the “A” or “b” of a sign, this has many advantages
1. Protection from the elements. The mother and her children are almost completely protected from precipitation and wind, meaning that they shouldn’t problems fighting the cold. Furthermore, it also protects against storms and inclement weather from damaging or destroying the nest.
2. Protection from Predators. This is not full protection since a Cat or a Rodent could reach inside, but against larger like birds of prey, this works well. A Hawk or Eagle will be too big to fit through the hole and their legs are likely not long enough to grab the bird, eggs or chicks if they stay at the far corner. It is also very hard to identify as a target for a high flying bird scanning for prey, who may likely see this a just a wooden box unless they see the mother and/or chicks entering/exiting the house.
3. Structural integrity. A nest in a tree may be damaged or destroyed if the tree branches starts moving, and even if the nest is in intact, the eggs/chicks can fall out in extreme conditions. The house is secured to the trunk of a tree or to an artificial post that ensured that the house stays still, even in suboptimal weather. And because it is contained and rigid, the nest and it’s occupants should remain safe even if the mount moves.
yeah, kinda too nice to be true

Testing the flooring seems like a waste of time considering it just started grabbing random chunks of doghair.

Yea why did they drag some of the nesting back out? They did that a few times.
@@nathanielpatterson6963 they put fur or fibrous material they can find on top to act like insulation to trap heat in the vegetation they gathered, essentially using their body heat to warm the entire floor and thus incubate the eggs effectively. Its basically like the greenery is a mattress and the animal fur is like a thick blanket or comforter that allows you to trap your body heat.

Hi

It’s beautiful to see how they have a world of their own.
Yeah it's pretty amazing!
Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love.
Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
. The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom.
If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as it's impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction).
He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place.
He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way.
NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER xx

@LeoS you really can’t be calling someone a little boy when this lady is reminiscing on her childhood and talking about something that makes her happy and you felt the need to insult her out of nowhere for no reason? you’re literally projecting that you clearly don’t have a very good life and you’re mad at the world, yeesh 😬 how to tell everyone you’re jealous of someone else’s happiness. if anyone’s a child here, it’s YOU.😐👋🏻
@LeoS lmao L + Ratio
Какой умничка! Всё посмотрел, проверил, клювиком проверил на прочность прежде чем селиться с семьёй. Настоящий мужик!❤
Its adorable how particular she is. "Mmm this twig needs to go here. No here. I don't like that feather there. Move it here." Puts it back it's original spot. "Perfect!"
And when she cleared all the original furniture out and started fresh on day 5 "no, no, this is just, ewww"
Yeah that feather sure was in the way of her design, she was definitely not happy with it 🤣
Puts it back it's original spot. "Perfect!"
I'm at the beginning and i love her alert posture and how she's checking every nook and cranny before deciding on staying.

This is really cool. I never really thought about a bird bringing things into a bird house, then deciding "nah fuck this bundle in particular" and taking it out again.
HAHAHAH
Lol
I was kind of wondering why she took that stuff back out myself
I love the first viewing of the apartment, a good inspection before talking to the realtor.
I'm only 1 minute in and I'm already fascinated. The thoughts & considerations in those early moments before the bird commits are amazing. You can almost hear her thinking - Is it solid? Is it safe? How many trips will I have to make to make this a home? Are the schools good? Is there a Pottery Barn nearby? 😆
Love this comment😂educational yet funny. I had the same exact thought process…I just put a bird feeder in my yard & I love watching them, they’re amazing creatures

This is so cool! I love how she checked the place out at first and inspected everything just like any of us do. I like birdhouses. I feel like they can be safer than nests sometimes. You don't have to worry about any babies falling out or getting thrown out in rejection. They also have plenty of room to move around and play. They stay out of the elements and that keeps them warm and dry. I didn't know how long it took to build a nest though. I definitely gained more respect for the process and building of their nests.
She's litteraly creating a whole mattress for her baby ,,,,, small sticks then bushy soft leafs then cotton pieces... Layer by layer.... That's Sooo crazy and amazing ....
Yeah after all they are parents ❤️ and they love there future children.its so heart touching.
So much intention.
Was just thinking how it was kinda cool how it went from the leaves and stuff to little cotton pieces
Makes me want to go get a bird house💙💙💙

I never realized how much time take for a bird to build a comfy nest, it's amazing, i'm gonna respect them yet more.

nice profile picture 🙂
Yeah, I like how it sometimes brought material in and than was like "nah, that doesn't fit at all, what was I thinking"
I like how she checks the inside out like, “This is actually really nice. Love it!”
The first one, the one that makes the nest is male. Smaller (without multipe eggs in his body), he's also responsible for foraging for food while the female is incubating the eggs.
Omg me too! She is dear ♥
the male bird makes the nest
all ik is that bird put in work from empty to
str8 up filling that bird house in no time🖤
“Hmm yes this will do nicely”
She studied everything about the inside, judging how much material she would need, then went to work. Wonderful having the camera to share this experience with the rest of us. Hopefully you have a number of nests built and installed in different areas.
I love how she tested the wood with her beak too. Making sure it’s strong and safe. So beautiful!

The variation between wet and dry nest material was so interesting! At first I thought the green plants were too wet to be nest material but when she finally built the nest she used drier material!
I love how she brings in a bunch of greenery but some of it doesn’t make the cut, so she takes it out and replaces it with better ones. 😂

@Man in the Park This bird laid the egg, right? So so that would be a safe assumption, I don't think birds suffer any such nonsense
More intelligent and hard worker than most humans. Magnificent!
it’s interesting to see how many times she moves the materials, discards then for better ones, and really really builds the nest to be the best place for her eggs, compared to how pigeons will legit just lay an egg next to a random twig and call it a day lmao
Ey, now, have a little respect. Sometimes there's not even a twig
Sounds like my lazy lifestyle 😆
Yeah, Pigeons in a nutshell... I constantly nearly run them over with my bicycle (!!!) because the lazy rats of the sky can't be bothered with evading danger.

@@S4Yntn17 well its a bird and birds are made from meat, so you get whats coming
It's really interesting to see her bring in leaves and grass as the base of the nest but then switches to down/cotton once there's enough padding
Bet you a hundred. That's not down/cotton! It's polyester! It's sickening seeing junk gets in the natural.
I thought it was white tree moss
It could have been fur from a local dog. Some are chill and birds tend to do that.
The neon yellow and pink stuff is definitely not dog fur
I thought it was hair
The moments where the bird is lying down to test how comfortable the bedding is is so cute.

The first bird was like "*TAP TAP TAP*.. This is too good to be true!" They must've felt like they won the lottery.
It’s amazing how a little wild animal totally appreciates a warm, safe, dry home. Make me want to build little birdhouses all over :-)
Yes, I try to support the little wild birds, by leaving my hair on trees for them to add insulation to their nests!
I've got long hair, and whenever I wash it, I moult like a labrador! So, I gather it up, and leave it on trees. Apparently human hair is very insulating, and I love the thought of it nurturing baby birds...
@@peacehope7365 that’s actually a pretty good idea!

@@411Adidas I realise you're being tongue-in-cheek. But, just to explain, no of course not! I'm a vegan. The point is that hair is a natural resource that birds can use to insulate their nest. Birds often find animal hair to weave into their nests. It's the same principle. I like to do my bit to give back to the earth and her creatures...
@@Whiggery Thank you. It's very satisfying. I don't dye my hair either, so it's a totally natural resource for the birds' nests
