CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Frank (Jean-Claude Van Damme) remembers back to meeting his master Tanaka (Roy Chiao) and fighting off school bullies.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the aptly titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite (also spelled Kumatai), a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world-a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death (or near-death) between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux (who serves as the film's fight coordinator). Denied such niceties as production values, Bloodsport scores big-time in the violent action department. A sequel followed in 1995, inventively titled Bloodsport 2.

Such a deep and emotional scene, you can really tell the actor for Young Frank poured his heart and soul into this role, and he had such emotion in his dialogue and it felt so real, this movie deserves 20 Oscars

The kumite takes place with an adult Van Damme/Dux in the 1980s, yet in the flashback all of the kids are in 80s style clothing, there are 80s BMX bikes, etc. when the flashback should be taking place in the mid 1970s.

The 80s was well on its way to the 80s in the late 70s? It usually takes the first 3-5 years of the next decade to fully shred the last decades fashion, style, etc...The 90s repeated the same cycle into the early 90s.

It is difficult to know how old Frank Dux is as an adult since Jackson say he is just a kid. So assuming that he is 21-years old it should somehow be accurate that he was 14-years old 1980 and the Kumite happens 1987. We all know Van Damme was 27 -years old but come on, lets just pretend!

It’s like they held a casting call for kids with worse acting skills that Van Damme.
To be honest, Van Damme might be not the greatest actor around, but he never came as plain bad. Given the overall material and the dialog JCVD did a decent job for an inexperienced actor in his basically first proper role.

You can clearly see Young Frank Dux was an emotional role to play and took months to perfect the role. The young actor here proved how hard and dedicated he was for the Young Frank role. He should get an award named after him for his heart pouring acting, pure talent.
Could not have said that better myself, as the power & poignancy of his acting has always rendered me stupefied & amazed. Inspirational!

When I was young this film was an action packed film with visceral emotion and a triumphant story-line. Now, it's a comedy. A very good comedy.

That scene specifically only still confuses because what's very vague to me is the fact that shingo who round kicked young frank earlier and physically with ease beat young frank's behind at the practice mat before calling him round eye couldn't handle those 2 bullies on his own despite the fact that he's a well trained young martial artist but couldn't easily take down those 2 bullies on his own which still boggles my mind till this day

It was this scene where he tested his fighting spirit by not flinching which I had stuck at the very back of mind years ago. It kept coming back and back every month, so I listened to my brain and done some research on Karate movies since these guys were asian and it finally brought me to this movie. Now my mind can be at peace knowing what this movie was called

This was one of my favourite scene in this movie I love this part...
.....my favorite part is the flashback moment when he got that dust thrown in his eyes, also the, theeeee!....hatheeeeeeee!.....theeeeeeeee! ..along with the theme music that goes before the final fight.
The kid playing young Dux should have been in many more roles, like Elliot in E.T. or Kevin in Home Alone.
I'm wondering if anyone noticed, but this movie was made in 1987-88. So wouldn't it stand to reason that when van damme is having a flash back to when he was a kid which would have been 15-20 years earlier, it would have been the late sixties to early seventies. But everyone in the flash back is dressed in eighties attire with eighties hairstyles and so on. Shouldn't the flash back depict the late sixties to early seventies in terms of clothes worn, hairstyles and so on?
