- Rocky vs Ivan Drago Rocky IV Training Montage HD 1080
Scene from Rocky 4 (IV). in Russia, Rocky is training for his fight with Ivan Drago, a Russian boxer (or supervillian?)
The song is Hearts On Fire by John Cafferty.
My wife and I, newly married, went to see this on opening night, Thanksgiving weekend in 1985. Place was packed. I’ve never been in a theatre for a movie that had that much energy. The audience was reacting wildly to every good moment by cheering and every bad moment by booing or yelling. In Creed’s match against Drago, everyone was yelling “Throw in the towel!”. After the training montage everyone applauded loudly. And during the final Drago fight, everyone was hanging and reacting to every punch. And when Drago finally went down you’d think we were watching a live match. It was deafening. Never had a movie experience like that before or since.
That's freaking awesome man. The Rocky movies are the best!
Wow what a beautiful story
Right there with you I was 10 years old in 1985, when I saw this film with my brother. Both the tension and energy in the theater was overwhelming. It was the second time I witnessed the audience get up clap and cheer since Darth Vader threw the Emperor over the railing in Return of the Jedi. People were even crying at the end of this film. I was like WOW!!!
time ago in one those "how was made or behind scenes " videos, showed a clip for a stadium record of a Rocky fight. Production teams mentioned net never had to script people to cheer Rocky or anything. Was natural and loud as hell.
I remember my popcorn not having enough butter. 😏
When your opponent is so powerful, you need two training montages to ensure victory.
I wouldn't have minded 3 back to back tbh lol
This was the funniest comment I’ve seen in a long time hahaha
@@JoseMora-wc5zz Thanks so much. Have a great one.

For some reason, because of Rocky 4, I always assumed he really was dead. It surprised me when he actually died and I was like 'he was alive'?
That part when Rocky scrunches up Drago's picture in the mirror always gives me chills. That's the moment when Rocky says "It's no longer about you, it's ALL about Me".

I loved that scene!
To me, it’s about losing the fear. Showing he’s ready
In my opinion Rocky IV has the best Training Montages in the Rocky Franchise
I agree with you.
Honestly I think rocky 2,3, and 4 training montages are all enough to get you pumped up

The freaking perfect that is the adrenaline rush that Rocky 4 gives you. It’s timeless. Forever kickass. No matter the generation they’re gonna get fired up from this flick.
Honestly to me, this was probably the best montage in the rocky movies.
It made me appreciate that we don’t need so much special equipment to get into shape.
Just takes motivation and whatever we have around the house.

Physical labor work is a great workout
I Love the 2nd work out when his wife gives him a surprise visit it definitely motivated his work out ethic 🔥 🔥 🔥
this is one of the most emotional and best montage in movie history. 7:10 when Rocky is lifting the charriot with all his strength and he scream "Drago!" with rage but focused in his objective.... he's leaving all behind just to honor his friend and beat the shit out of Drago. Amazing scene, pure nostalic feeling.
I agree.
Amen!
He tore his pectoral during that
The dumbest moment in the movie. This is how Russians train in nature in harsh conditions, Americans on chemistry and steroids.
I don't think Rocky would have won if apollo didn't die. That was the boost rocky needed to avenge one of his best friend's

@@PeeleeAdventures besides the gym, it has help me through hard times
At the beginning of the montage, Rocky was training with his mind, body and spirit. He was getting stronger, but so was Drago, who was also putting his mind, body and spirit into his training.
Then, Adrienne came to Russia. She told Rocky she was with him, no matter what. She was his heart, as she'd always been throughout all the movies. This was the factor all the training, all the machines and all the chemicals couldn't duplicate for Drago. Once Rocky had his heart back, no force could stop him.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate DiCola's epic score? Masterpiece.

@@station2123 Stallone was born in 1946. He was 35/36 when Rocky III came out. He was 39 when Rocky IV and Rambo II came out.
Holy shit.... I just noticed when Rocky lifts the wheelbarrow thing and Drago does the overhead press, Drago has the luxury of being able to just drop the weight right after the set to rest, whereas Rocky can't do that because Tony Paulie and Adrian are on it, so he had to let it down slowly, thus getting more from the workout than Ivan did.
Nah dragos strict over head press almost 600lbs no one in the world can do that

This scene made Rocky IV a true masterpiece
Something about how movies used to be and the characters and their story arcs were; Made you wanna feel like they were real! And inspiring. Now it's like they're more like imitation of older references.

The greatest, most inspirational & ultra badass training montage of all time, hands down! These scenes are also clearly indicative of Stallone's creative genius, which is unsurpassed!
Most of the real genius was the editing and whoever helped put together and place the songs within that classic soundtrack , and talent of the artists behind those key songs like "Heart's On Fire" , "Burning Heart" , and "No Easy Way Out" , which are all timeless. The scenes they were so perfectly put with elevated both the movie and music's combined emotional synergistic Impact to a whole other rarified level of motivation , which undeniably transfers Rocky's drive right through the screen every time , It just makes you wanna get up at any point and get pumped for something lol. Stallone knew how to splice In that stylishly Indulgent 80s music video vibe to balance the melodrama throughout his story , which he started doing to a lesser extent with Rocky 3. Good music played such a huge role In so many great films that wouldn't be half of what they became without those brilliant soundtracks/scores.
@@fawkkyutuu8851Brilliantly put! And I agree with you 150 percent!

The beginning of the training music always gives me goosebumps and it is what great 80’s synthesizer sounds were like 🎹🎼
I saw this movie when I was 7 in 1985 and the training montage was so inspiring that after the movie I went in the backyard of my grandparents house and chopped wood for them.
What I love about this movie is it shows that Ivan and Rocky trained equally, Ivan even had the upper hand in strength but Rocky had that desire to win He had that Eye of The Tiger!!
I love how in this movie while training his training coach doesn’t even need to say anything to him really because Rocky is already pushing himself beyond the limits even they expected.
I always like the part when Drago is on the treadmill and has to grab a hold of the bar as a sign of defeat while Rocky is still climbing the mountain until he reaches the summit.
one of the best montage scenes in rocky, still give me the goose bumps and the "something is about to happen" feeling going up my back.
"The moment of truth is here.."

06:50 - when he breaks the picture off the mirror - great scene, no words needed, you know He knows he's ready.
He was ready, no doubt. Dude was pressing a Horse cart W/ 4 people in it.
The Movie itself wasn't bad if you just put it up against other movies of its type from the mid to late 80s.
It doesn't compare well at all with
1 & 2 storywise tho.
Best soundtrack
6:53
"I'm with you no matter what.."
"No matter what?"
"No matter what."
This is what Men and Women should say to eachother at the Altar when they take thier vows.
All he needed it was over after that
"No matter what."
Great moment in the series, of training montages, and (to me) cinema history.
Thank you Rocky 🙌🏻💥
The really cool thing about Rocky is, his character from the 70's to today - the things he was taught (From Mickey, from Apollo, Duke and his wife Adrian - and the things he did have the power to motivate the everyday man. And this is being carried on by his true student, Adonis Creed.
Watching this in my elementary school auditorium while in 5th grade, this scene motivated me then. It still does today.👍
Duke: You know what you have to do. Do it. Do it.
Rocky: Thanks, Duke.
I saw Rocky III and IV in the cinema and it was so epic at the time of it's release. Movies now and audience's attitude have lost it's soul and the 80s were a great time for movies and soundtracks.
You know its on when you need 2 training montages back to back XD
That music is just perfect for training montage. Must have been played in a million gyms around the world.
This is really Rocky at his prime. All the skills he picked up on the street, the lessons from Mickey, and the guidance of Apollo mixed in a kick ass cocktail.
Unfortunately, the fight with Drago was the beginning of the end for Rocky's falloff
Huuuuh?
Yes makes it all bittersweet
@@Kyubii01 As stated in Rocky 5 and Creed 2, the damage Rocky sustained in his match was Drago was irreversible. But believe me, it was worse for Ivan.
He says it in the Creed movie.
“He broke things in me that will never heal”
Rocky beat him but Drago was no joke to take down
@tomzadvydas1758 It was a Pyrrhic Victory for sure.
And I also would like the point out the irony of their match being a proxy for the Cold War when both economic systems would end up failing their respective athletes.
IMO this was the height of Rockys career. His peak training montage. Not knocking any of the later ones but I feel this is him at his absolute best. "He is not a man... He is like a piece of iron"; unstoppable.
Everyone knew creed was better so this showed exactly why rocky wins when it counts. His whole life was that of a survivor. Fights like this and challenges like this aren't about whose better skill it's about who the heart to persevere. Apollo died cuz he fought for ego his motivations were shallow, rocky fought basically for all that was good and decent in the world, even the hostile Russian crowd saw that and realized they would rather a man from the enemy country win for what he represented. He was the everyman standing up for what's right.

Best training scene ever!
Ever
Out of all the Rocky and the Creeds, this has got to be the best training montage. And then to end it with him scream DARGOOOOO! and the cameras panning out showing the landscape...masterpiece. and that scream gives me chills every time.
Something about this montage, the music, the story just stirs the soul. I can understand how someone might be inclined to use this during a workout, it's truly inspiring!
But it's more than that. It could be the soundtrack to your soul.
Play the music but don't watch the video. Just kick back, listen and let the music pull up images of your own life, moments in time that caused you...whatever; pain, joy, struggle, conquest, defeat...whatever.
It has always amazed me how powerful music can be. How it can transform you, teleport you to somewhere else, a different time, a different place. It can totally change your mood. It's like a drug, sometimes; powerful and potent. It can be deeply satisfying and it can be gut wrenching but it's always there for you.
Disjointed thoughts, I realize. Perhaps the subject is simply too ominous to really pin down here in this medium.
