My wife and I, newly married, went to see this on opening night, Thanksgiving weekend in 1985. Place was packed. I’ve never been in a theatre for a movie that had that much energy. The audience was reacting wildly to every good moment by cheering and every bad moment by booing or yelling. In Creed’s match against Drago, everyone was yelling “Throw in the towel!”. After the training montage everyone applauded loudly. And during the final Drago fight, everyone was hanging and reacting to every punch. And when Drago finally went down you’d think we were watching a live match. It was deafening. Never had a movie experience like that before or since.
Right there with you I was 10 years old in 1985, when I saw this film with my brother. Both the tension and energy in the theater was overwhelming. It was the second time I witnessed the audience get up clap and cheer since Darth Vader threw the Emperor over the railing in Return of the Jedi. People were even crying at the end of this film. I was like WOW!!!

Everyone knew creed was better so this showed exactly why rocky wins when it counts. His whole life was that of a survivor. Fights like this and challenges like this aren't about whose better skill it's about who the heart to persevere. Apollo died cuz he fought for ego his motivations were shallow, rocky fought basically for all that was good and decent in the world, even the hostile Russian crowd saw that and realized they would rather a man from the enemy country win for what he represented. He was the everyman standing up for what's right.
This is my grandma favorite movie and she recently passed away earlier this year in a tragedy and this was my favorite scene of the entire film like I'm crying right now watching this all over again❤
The greatest, most inspirational & ultra badass training montage of all time, hands down! These scenes are also clearly indicative of Stallone's creative genius, which is unsurpassed!
Most of the real genius was the editing and whoever helped put together and place the songs within that classic soundtrack , and talent of the artists behind those key songs like "Heart's On Fire" , "Burning Heart" , and "No Easy Way Out" , which are all timeless. The scenes they were so perfectly put with elevated both the movie and music's combined emotional synergistic Impact to a whole other rarified level of motivation , which undeniably transfers Rocky's drive right through the screen every time , It just makes you wanna get up at any point and get pumped for something lol. Stallone knew how to splice In that stylishly Indulgent 80s music video vibe to balance the melodrama throughout his story , which he started doing to a lesser extent with Rocky 3. Good music played such a huge role In so many great films that wouldn't be half of what they became without those brilliant soundtracks/scores.
What I love most about this scene is that really shows the "villain" really training hard. It's not like other media where the villain it's just a bad guy trying to opose the hero. No, Drago it's training as hard as Rocky and have an will to win just as strong as his.
@@RaikenXion that gave him the strength he needed seeing his beautiful wife she's quiet but she's strong as what. His wife by his side no doubt it's over
Rocky would of lost if Adrian hadn’t come rockys heart is never in it unless he has Adrian’s full support just like Rocky 2 where she told him Win in the hospital bed
Something about how movies used to be and the characters and their story arcs were; Made you wanna feel like they were real! And inspiring. Now it's like they're more like imitation of older references.
I saw this movie when I was 7 in 1985 and the training montage was so inspiring that after the movie I went in the backyard of my grandparents house and chopped wood for them.
Something about this montage, the music, the story just stirs the soul. I can understand how someone might be inclined to use this during a workout, it's truly inspiring! But it's more than that. It could be the soundtrack to your soul. Play the music but don't watch the video. Just kick back, listen and let the music pull up images of your own life, moments in time that caused you...whatever; pain, joy, struggle, conquest, defeat...whatever. It has always amazed me how powerful music can be. How it can transform you, teleport you to somewhere else, a different time, a different place. It can totally change your mood. It's like a drug, sometimes; powerful and potent. It can be deeply satisfying and it can be gut wrenching but it's always there for you. Disjointed thoughts, I realize. Perhaps the subject is simply too ominous to really pin down here in this medium.
I completely concur with your assessment of the situation. This is the best Rocky movie by far out of the first four the rest of the Rocky movies were okay, but the first four were the best
If I were to tell somebody to watch the Rocky movies cuz they're just great especially the first four I would probably tell them to start with number four. Just like in Star Trek the next generation if you want to get a person to watch Star Trek TNG you need to have them start in the third season and then when they finish season 7 go back and watch the first two seasons. That's the best way to get somebody into Rocky as well. Have him last 4:00 and then have him go back. Watch 1 through 3
I always like the part when Drago is on the treadmill and has to grab a hold of the bar as a sign of defeat while Rocky is still climbing the mountain until he reaches the summit.
To be fair Rocky has the advantage of being able to slow down as needed as he climbs up the mountain while the speed and slop of the treadmill was not under the control of Drago. It was not a fair comparison.
This is really Rocky at his prime. All the skills he picked up on the street, the lessons from Mickey, and the guidance of Apollo mixed in a kick ass cocktail. Unfortunately, the fight with Drago was the beginning of the end for Rocky's falloff
@tomzadvydas1758 It was a Pyrrhic Victory for sure. And I also would like the point out the irony of their match being a proxy for the Cold War when both economic systems would end up failing their respective athletes.
Everytime i watch this I think about how disciplined i was in the gym and trained hard and ate right. I think back to what powerlifting gave to me and how i placed 2nd, on the podium, in my first competition. I had so much fcking heart for myself and the sport all those years ago. I think its time to come back to it and this training montage really opened my eyes after everything ive been through in the past 15 years. one of the best movies of all time for me. I was born in 2000 and still love this movie. I have a mother who is not interested in combat sports and similarly loves Rocky too, and not only the 4th episode, but all of them, how he gets from zero to the top with love that they had nothing to do with in the beginning. I'm terribly jealous of people seeing this movie for the first time, but I'll enjoy it for the millionth time.
Many years ago a friend of mine was taking a screenwriting class at a local college in Nashville, Tennessee where I lived at the time. His teacher told the students one night after class that they were going to have a guest speaker for the next class and told everyone they could bring a guest if they wanted to. He kept the speaker's identity a secret and my friend invited me and offered to pick me up because my car was broke down at the time. I politely declined because my friend loved to smoke cigarettes in his car and I was a non-smoker. Plus, I was not convinced the special guest would be so special. Turns out, the guest speaker was Talia Shire. She hung out, spoke, signed autographs and connected with everyone there for over 3 hours. My friend said that she was humble, gracious and beautiful. I was very upset with myself and still am over missing that opportunity!
The last 1 minute and 30 seconds is for me, without doubt, THE GREATEST/MOST MOTIVATING score in the history of film!! Fuck it, in music period! Could listen to that part (all of it tbh) 50 times straight on repeat and it would be no less inspiring than the first time I put it on!!! Honestly feel like I could break a 4 minute mile or climb a mountain listening to this!!!
I do the same Especially when I use the treadmill I’m Drago running in a super high incline 😂😂😂 Is really intense, because it forces you To run faster and harder
At the beginning of the montage, Rocky was training with his mind, body and spirit. He was getting stronger, but so was Drago, who was also putting his mind, body and spirit into his training. Then, Adrienne came to Russia. She told Rocky she was with him, no matter what. She was his heart, as she'd always been throughout all the movies. This was the factor all the training, all the machines and all the chemicals couldn't duplicate for Drago. Once Rocky had his heart back, no force could stop him.
Just look at what happened after the fight. Adrian was determined to stay with Rocky no matter what, but Ludmilla left Ivan and their son all because he lost. It’s really sad.
@@michaeldbalance Drago may have been doping, but he was training just as hard as Rocky was. He practically sold his body and soul for the fight. Which makes it even more tragic how his wife and country turned their backs on him just because he lost.
I'll never forget seeing this in 1986! I was 7 and in awe of such a fantastic movie! I then rode my bike to the local record store to ensure a copy of the album. Rocky forever!

@@ethosterros9430Rocky iv in a nutshell ❤
The best trainning of the history !!! Sly the best of all time !!!
You would think at this point my family would be used to hearing me scream “DRAGOOOOOOOO!” But it still startles them.
Underrated comment lmao
😂😂😂
Lmfao
When he screams Drago, I get chills and feel like I can climb a mountain.
What an inspirational montage!!
😂😂😂😂
This is my grandma favorite movie and she recently passed away earlier this year in a tragedy and this was my favorite scene of the entire film like I'm crying right now watching this all over again❤
I’m so sorry for your loss.
@@WeissVogelthank you!!
@@fawkkyutuu8851Brilliantly put! And I agree with you 150 percent!
I come back every once in a while. Anytime I’m facing any hardships in my life. I gotta admit this scene and music keep me going!
What I love most about this scene is that really shows the "villain" really training hard. It's not like other media where the villain it's just a bad guy trying to opose the hero. No, Drago it's training as hard as Rocky and have an will to win just as strong as his.
Oh man that 80's energy and vibe, miss it so much.
Facts Facts ✨ It's definitely Awe Inspiring 🎉❤❤❤

Undoubtedly the best training scene in movie history!!
This is helping me stay motivated in the gym during my divorce. My wife left me for someone else.
Be encouraged.
Damn. Sorry to hear that. There is someone else out there for you!!
Thanks everyone. I’m struggling, but surviving!!
Stay strong brother!
Remember Discipline rules over motivation when you are down pick yourself up and keep going!!
You know its on when you need 2 training montages back to back XD
the look on his face when he sees Adrian always makes me tear up
Adrian is the strongest woman all what she went through with Rocky, she was his backbone.
As soon as Adrianne arrives...Rocky knows the fight is his....
Me too. And I'm not ashamed to admit that.
@@RaikenXion that gave him the strength he needed seeing his beautiful wife she's quiet but she's strong as what. His wife by his side no doubt it's over
So much inspiration is incredible
Duke: You know what you have to do. Do it. Do it.
Rocky: Thanks, Duke.
the importance of a Queen by your side, will always give you 200%.

Ты конченный подкаблучник
lmao horrible example but RIP
Love they you kept in the part with Adrian. She is as much a part of the training transition as everyone else.
This montage can lift you from the pits and push you to the peaks! The greatest ever!
GREATEST training montage EVER filmed!!
I saw this movie when I was 7 in 1985 and the training montage was so inspiring that after the movie I went in the backyard of my grandparents house and chopped wood for them.
LoL this and CONAN made a man outta ya'
I was 5 when I saw it.
I wasn't even born then . I saw it on dvds multiple times... Even now it give chills to my body
L
It’s in my playlist
Well said
It works. Lost 180 pounds. This always pushed me to my limit
I listen to the Rocky 4 soundtrack when I run. It's better than preworkout.
Him screaming DRAGOOO at the end and the camera work just gives me chills every time. Most epic montage ever
this surely remains one of the most motivating storylines in the rocky-verse, and Stallone really went all out in this one :)
Looking back, this may have been the best Rocky movie
No rocky 1 then this
I completely concur with your assessment of the situation.
Watch 1 through 3
Absolutely
I agree I also love star trek the next generation
Huuuuh?
Yes makes it all bittersweet
He says it in the Creed movie.
“He broke things in me that will never heal”
Rocky beat him but Drago was no joke to take down
@tomzadvydas1758 It was a Pyrrhic Victory for sure.
And I also would like the point out the irony of their match being a proxy for the Cold War when both economic systems would end up failing their respective athletes.
That’s what he needed to defeat drago for sure
"I'm with you no matter what.."
"No matter what?"
"No matter what."
This is what Men and Women should say to eachother at the Altar when they take thier vows.
All he needed it was over after that
Everytime i watch this I think about how disciplined i was in the gym and trained hard and ate right. I think back to what powerlifting gave to me and how i placed 2nd, on the podium, in my first competition. I had so much fcking heart for myself and the sport all those years ago. I think its time to come back to it and this training montage really opened my eyes after everything ive been through in the past 15 years. This really has my mind racing, thinking back to those memories i have of training hard and performing at my best. Yeah, im coming back! Thank you Sly for creating this montage during the making of this film. Its truly opened my eyes to what ive been missing inside of myself.
Awesome quality, cheers for the upload
thanks a lot

one of the best montage scenes in rocky, still give me the goose bumps and the "something is about to happen" feeling going up my back.
Its been what? almost 40 years at this point? And it still gets me pumped up!
0:58 the slot opening up to the flashy lights to show you how technologically advance the workout equipment is always gets me. 😂
lmao the more lights it have, the more futuristic it is
I never imagined that a fictional character could inspire me so much to push myself to the limit during my workouts.
Rocky IV probablemente una de las mejores películas de la historia, Sylvester gracias por tan maravillosa genialidad
one of the best movies of all time for me.
Thinking of Carl weathers who passed away at 76 in February 2024 😢🙏💔Get emotional watching this 😭
He was brilliant and incredible
Rip Apollo
Bert Young ("Paulie") and Tony Hamilton as well... RIP these two.
He just seems to get more powerful when his wife is beside him!
yeah IKR 😅
Real love, not the sense of attraction but the will of sacrifice and pure strength
What a woman.... lucky to have one like this in my life.
Exactly
IKR!🖤
Such an amazing montage. There are like 5 specific moments in the montage that get me every time.
When the coach said “NO PAIN” oh man
Many years ago a friend of mine was taking a screenwriting class at a local college in Nashville, Tennessee where I lived at the time.
I escorted Julia Roberts to the Emmy awards and she could not have been nicier
The last 1 minute and 30 seconds is for me, without doubt, THE GREATEST/MOST MOTIVATING score in the history of film!! Fuck it, in music period! Could listen to that part (all of it tbh) 50 times straight on repeat and it would be no less inspiring than the first time I put it on!!! Honestly feel like I could break a 4 minute mile or climb a mountain listening to this!!!
So true !
Probably one of the most famous training montages and badass moments in the film.
Hearts on Fire became my new favorite song this year
Same here, bro.
Same
I do the same
Especially when I use the treadmill
I’m Drago running in a super high incline
😂😂😂
Is really intense, because it forces you
To run faster and harder
Love it. This has been my hype gym song for at least 24 yrs lmao
@@PeeleeAdventures besides the gym, it has help me through hard times
Timeless! This got me over many workouts throughout the years. 👍💪
It ain't about muscle. It's about heart and fire.
Poor Drago married to that witch. Stallone can relate.
Just look at what happened after the fight. Adrian was determined to stay with Rocky no matter what, but Ludmilla left Ivan and their son all because he lost. It’s really sad.
Rocky was actually training, while Drago was enhancing himself with anabolic steroids.
No movies better than rocky
No stories can beat this story
No training can beat rocky training
Nothing can inspire you to train and gp for your goals more than rocky music and training.
Nothing makes you more emotional than rocky and mickey story and rise of rocky with mickey as his guru.
Man,i love rocky balboa !!
When was a child I see Rocky and it was very inspirational for the rest of my life. Many times I fell in disadvantaged situations and finally I win only for deep motivation, no distractions, discipline...no I'm 50 and I'm reached many goals despite life often wasn't kindly to me. Sorry for my English, hope you understand the sense.
