CLIP DESCRIPTION:
To prove he is part of the Tanaka clan, Frank (Jean-Claude Van Damme) performs the "Dim Mak" otherwise known as the 'death touch' in which he breaks a brick with his bare hand. His perfection of this move grants him an invitation into the Kumite tournament.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the aptly titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite (also spelled Kumatai), a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world-a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death (or near-death) between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux (who serves as the film's fight coordinator). Denied such niceties as production values, Bloodsport scores big-time in the violent action department. A sequel followed in 1995, inventively titled Bloodsport 2.

Cast: Donald Gibb, Ken Siu, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bolo Yeung

@@BLM_Big_Lipped_Marxist Guess the Kumite starts one day earlier this year, huh fellas?
Bolo Yeung, the actor who played Chong Li was also in Enter the Dragon where Bruce Lee said "Boards don't hit back"
:0
Bolo Looks Like A Street Fighter Boss...
Fernando Domingo the man doesn't age.
Bricks don’t hit back
He was disgruntled from Enter the Dragon that he recycled the same line for this film but used it in a different way.
My God... the music score, the characters, the story.... the CHEESE!!!!! Welcome to the 80's.... you're so missed.
I always mention this with friends. 80’s movies were the best.
The only thing missing was an epic rock song during the training montage
It want cheese back then though😂
@@markvarley2962 Low cost production - over the top scenes - could it be a Cannon Group production - YES IT IS!☢
@@markvarley2962 My double feature was Delta Force and American Ninja. I am so very happy though that Cannon never went ahead with the Spiderman movie - can you imagine how horrible/epic a Golan-Globus Spiderman movie would be?
the way BOLO says ''very good'' combined with his facial look, just for a second or two, its like he's genuinely pleased and happy for dux.
It's like even though he is intent on probably killing Dux, his respect grew for him as a martial artist after that.
And he wants to eat his soul 😅
I saw bolo at the gym 3 years ago❤. Arcadia, CA, near pasadena
This might all seem silly now, but back in the day, this was pure magic. On the playground we would re enact this scene, dreaming of becoming men like these.
Lol I can remember me and my cousin trying to reenact all the moves on the back lawn during summer,, wed watch this movie (and kickboxer) like it was a tutorial aha,, i always had a fixation with the move Dux uses where he gets his leg caught but just uses a one legged high kick to get out of it. We also loved Chong Lis fight against the black guy where he punches him, whips him of his feet, ties him up and hits him palm handed on the back of the head. I got into serious trouble at school using that move during break time (primary school here in the UK), hit a lad to the back of the head like that and he went dizzy and I got called into the heads office for a telling off and my parents called in.. the films were great but kids can be influenced by them and that needs to be considered if you let them watch such movies. My parents took the VHS tape after the school meeting because they both knew exactly where I got the move from haha,, for nearly 6 months, I found it but didnt tell em haha, I never tried that move again anyway.
@@therebel4332 what happened after the 6 months?!
@@therebel4332Great story lol I was interested. I was big into this stuff as a kid too & used to fight a lot. Also got in a lot of trouble for it. Can definitely relate lol.
Key word MEN! Haha now its the opposite 🤦🏻♂️
There's something so magical about the 80s. I think the music score had a lot to do with it. You felt like you could do anything. Such a great time to be alive.
I'm guessing it had something to do with the cocaine.
It was.
Great stuff. The drive ins were phenomenal times.
Lot of cocain did that to
Nope, sorry, the 80s sucked. Hard. Music was Bad, most movies were bad (star wars and the karate kid were okay) and life was mostly school, bullies and hard work with no pay (transformers were cool though)
"No, bottom one"
Frank: takes the bottom one und put it on the top
Edel 😂
Ok USA
That's what J would have done in MEN IN BLACK.
Lol
That was the real test. He needs to be smart like an asian kid to participate
I love how Bolo honored Bruce Lee in this scene.
Yes sir, Bruce lee Say that line in enter the dragon.
They were friends.
Cool. Didn't know that
Yep and he's the only person on that set that can actually say he worked with the legend Bruce Lee himself God I wish Bruce Lee was still around cuz I wonder what he would think about Steven Seagal Jet Li and then of course Jackie Chan who idolizes Lee because he was a stunt double for Lee on The Game of Death
@@matthewphillips2698 Well he knew Chan personally and was going too give him a part in "The Game of Death" and from what I read he thought he had a bright future.
I've loved this movie my entire life.
That music seals the scene as legendary
it was perfect yeah.
@udip21 *This is the type of comment/sentiment I was looking for.*
@@originalm3233 The soundtrack made it legendary. Music usually does for movies.
“Very good. But brick not hit back.”

In Homage to the GOAT, Bruce Lee, in Enter the Dragon.
He's not wrong
One of the most memorable scenes of my childhood!!!
Bolo was so dope he had like 8 lines in the movie an he’s super intimidating throughout the whole film
Ishmael Gaynor it’s cuz of his pecs. He could probably make them applause.
He doesn't even speak English. His voice was dubbed.

All the other competitors saw a man explode a brick using a move called the 'death touch' and thought it was still a good idea to continue.
that's exactly what i used to think when i was young
i mean.. if i saw a bully in school do that, i'd stay out of his way
and in the spirit of movie mistakes... When Van Damne hits that big sumo bloke in the gut WHY DOESN'T IT EXPLODE OUT THE OTHER SIDE
haaahh.. now tell me that
he also did it to Bolo during their fight
They should have had one fighter witness the death touch, then pack his bag and walk right out.
@@duanebarry2817 😂
He used it on the sumo and it barely worked lol
@H.K thought Frank do it chong Li
they don't make movies like this no more!
Practical Driver by that you mean awesome guy movies!? Yeah your right!
no.... they don't! BOLO YEUNG!
yo.....they might do a remake of it in a few years i think
One of the most chilling scene ever
The age of macho action heroes needs to come back. I'm tired of super hero movies already. Give me some old school no nonsense action.
I love it how all the fighters gathered around just to see him break the brick..Even the music that was playing made it epic
Those men were trying to see what they were up against, I would have done the same thing.
the homage done to Bruce Lee by Bolo... the references to martial greats in this film... excellent.. i always have a swelling of heart watching this movie.
*This movie is from a pre-internet (as we know it today) & pre-UFC era when there was still "magic" in the world and secrets to be found. It was not impossible to believe that, given the right training from the right teacher, that you too might be able to learn special moves that can defeat anyone...this lack of knowledge allowed us to dream and live in a fantasy back in those days.....*
You can still dream of being Goku.
@@MilkPlus "bullshido"??? wtf is that? Unless you are trying to be funny by purposely misspelling it for a play-on-words Dad joke?
@@originalm3233 It's partly wordplay. "Bullshido" is Internet slang for any martial art or martial art studio that makes claims on which is cannot deliver, e.g. Aikido being ideal for self-defense. It's kind of a problem term because it's sometimes applied when it really isn't appropriate; in short, it's only bullshido if either the art itself or a studio the art is practiced in makes claims about its effectiveness that cannot be supported, and NOT if the observer believes an assumption about the art or studio that is not claimed by the art or studio.
It's that last bit where things get a little bit sticky.
@@originalm3233 pretty much refering to martial arts charlatans.
A brick is a special move...as is a lawyer that sends a martial arts Frank Douche for attacking someone to jail(enjoy) that thinks movies are real life.
- We honor your invitation.
- No shit you honor his invitation!
Lmao
I still love when Jackson was like what the hell is a Dim Mack?! 😂
Death touch!
NEITHER IS THIS HIYAAAAAAA! For you.
Love Bolo's tribute to Bruce.
One of the greatest and most memorable scenes.
i like how after the guy says "Bottom one" the music starts and every fighter stop training to see how he shows the dim mak
that was he's puch line and that was the best Puch line in the whole movie
One of the greatest movies of my childhood
"What if Bruce Springsteen was his shidoshi?!" LOL
Dead lol
For a music competition , that would be honored.
Well at least he was ... Err..... Born in the U.S.A....
Then he would've been dancing in the dark...
He probably be on the streets of Philadelphia
I grew up watching everything van damme...im almost 40 now an this still gives me the chills
@M C I never understood how Frank get an invitation, if they did know his background? how they know of frank and his skills without knowing about tanaka
This is just one of several great scenes that elevates this movie to classic tier. There are so many things going on here. This is great movie-making, this is great storytelling, and that is all that really matters.
Bolo’s badass stare is awesome...

Mortal kombat was inspired by universal soldier If I'm not mistaken, after boon tobias watched the film.

Mk actually started life as a Bloodsport video game. A bit of this can be seen in Johnny Cage's attire in the first game, which has a strong resemblance to the shorts and sash that JKVD wore during the final match.

I was 8 when this movie came up. Jean Claude VD used to be one of my fav. Double Impact, Sudden Death, Maximum Risk, Univ Soldier.. I loved seeing them and miss badly. Things would never be the same again!
@Swaraj Mazumdar u never saw no retreat no surrender?
Death touch on human means it is gonna bust the opponent's balls when he gets hit on his head...!
More like your insides will melt while your skin and the upper layers of it seem fine.
One guy once said that the idea is to try to get the force of the punch to travel to the spine. It would never work like in the movie though, since force gradually diminishes when it travels through something.
Something I've always wondered, how did frank get the invitation, if they didn't know his background?
Hit balls, head explodes
it's DEFT touch, not death touch, or touch of death. The ability to hit a place with deftness, to achieve the results shown in the clip, rather than to shatter all bricks, only shatter that specific one.
I don't think Van Damme is ever made a bad movie. One of my favorites will always be cyborg!!
He was the main villain in Expendables 2.
For years I didn't know that was a Bruce Lee reference.
