@@johnathandoe6034I don’t know about you but some of us take issue with those who mistreat and cast aside those who genuinely love and care for them in favour of going with losers, dropouts, junkies etc who slap them around, introduce them to self destructive lifestyles and ultimately venereal diseases as we see here. Still though, it wasn’t Forrest’s job to fix her although he still tried.
@vinaymulukutla358 Not saying it was his job, and I'm not saying I don't take issue with it... Forrest deserved the world, and sadly for most his life he could only get scraps of it. It's very telling how most people dehumanize and put down Jenny as if she's just another monster who used Forrest. Jenny very obviously cared for Forrest and she often made choices and decisions that she felt helped him. If you actually think about everything she did, every decision was trying to push him away because she felt she didn't deserve Forrest. It's a tragedy just as sad as Forrest's honestly. Jenny was his friend, but she didn't know how to be a good one
@@johnathandoe6034 I don’t think you’re wrong in your interpretation of it and indeed Jenny wasn’t a monster. She couldn’t love herself and as Forrest’s accomplishments and recognition surmounted, the less she felt she deserved him. It’s just sad that Forrest often was on the receiving end of her trauma (such as telling him that he didn’t know what love was and then ghosting him) that shows that hurt people unfortunately hurt people although not necessarily out of malice.
She valued him but didn’t have the capacity to be there for him because of her trauma. Forrest was strong because he had a mom who advocated for him. Bubba was because he had a family. Bubba’s family supported Forrest too. Jenny didn’t have anyone as a kid and her family sexually abused her, burdening her for life. She didn’t have the opportunities of football scholarships and military careers that men had. Damaged women were worthless to society and she had to dig herself out. She loved him fully but didn’t have the capacity to cope with her scars and be there for him.
The saddest line from the whole film was when Forrest told Jenny, "Why don't you love me Jenny? I don't know a lot, but I know what love is." Forrest understood something that Jenny spent her entire life trying to figure out

Mykelti Williamson should have been nominated and won a huge amount of awards for his work on Forest Gump. He is a chameleon and unrecognizable in his role. @@vincentgoupil180 Your comment is just plain stupid. First off the tired "they break you down to build you up". Yes, thank you, we all know this and it's not relevant to the scene at all. Especially with the "they want you to be a mindless drone like in a cult". You do a lot of talking about the military for someone who's clearly never been there and only lives off of memes. The entire point to the scene, and what I'm referring to, is twofold. Gump lives a charmed, fairy-tale life, where he's constantly falling back asswards into success and this is just another instance of that where his natural traits make him successful at a thing. But the other more relevant one is that Full Metal Jacket was only a few years older than this. A movie where a mentally challenged guy is ruthlessly and cruelly bullied until he snaps and kills himself and the instructor. In this movie we have a mentally challenged guy go to basic, and the audience is like "oh no, this is Pyle all over again" only for him to receive endless praise from the DSgt. It's a lighthearted twist on what we would expect. "do guy really think Gump is a genius, that's not what this movie is about". Are you so dense you think this is some kind of surprise?

I always thought he said enlistment because with him being not the smartest, I always figured they talked him into one hell of a contract which would also explain why he ended up remaining in the military with his ping-pong because he didn’t get his papers for a very long time.
Forrest remembered everything in detail, he cared deeply about the people he loved. He influenced many people in the film (he even taught the King of RnR Elvis how to dance). My theory: He's not stupid, he was just on the autism spectrum.
The movie does blatantly state that he does have some kind of neurodivergent condition but they don't specify which one and i think it's a pretty smart choice on part of the writers You can easily imagine him being all kinds of neurospicy and it just works

On one hand, Forrest 100% deserved the world, but Jenny is honestly one of the most human characters ever written in a story... And I guess humans hate seeing someone that represents themselves
But I get it though, Jenny was messed up from being abused as a child so she looked for the same kinds of men like her father had been.
That was a fantastic Drill Sergeant, one of the best portrayal ever.

I love his “Guuuuuuump” when he finished assembling his rifle.
My favourites are R. Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket and Al Matthews from Aliens. Both ex marine corp turned actors and played the roles brilliantly.
He's like one of the first characters that recognizes Forrest's true potential too
Forrest Gump shows people that simple doesn't mean stupid. Forest was a simple man and a good man but he wasn't stupid.
Definitely not stupid. He was just a simple guy. Some of the smartest people you’ll ever meet are simple folks.
Stupid is as stupid does!😅
The saddest line from the whole film was when Forrest told Jenny, "Why don't you love me Jenny? I don't know a lot, but I know what love is." Forrest understood something that Jenny spent her entire life trying to figure out
Gump was autistic and so is my son. He received a bachelor degree with 4.0 average. He is also the kindest person I ever met. I'm very lucky to be his father.
@@thaloh because Jenny was an awful human being, who literally used forrest as a last resort. If he hadn't become rich she would probably have never even bothered to look him up.
My favorite part is the Drill Sgt throwing shade on officers and stating he wouldn't recommend Gump to OCS because it would be a waste of a perfectly good enlisted man. Love that little detail of attitude so much.
shouldn't Gump already be an officer since he has a college degree? seems like a plot hole
@@CoolGobyFish I read in the wiki that he flunked out in the book, but in the film, he doesn't. So probably a plothole from that discrepancy.

@CoolGobyFish I think you need to be in ROTC in order to graduate college as an officer. Gump seemed to have gotten into Bama on a football scholarship, so he had no prior exposure to the military until he enlisted
Bubba saying he wants to go home makes me cry every time
If you wanna know what Forris said during his muted speech in DC, it was something along the lines of
“When you go to war, sometimes you come home to your mama without any legs… and sometimes you don’t come home to her at all…. And thats real bad….” 😭
Bubba: You ever been on a real shrimp boat?
Gump: No but I’ve been on a real big boat.

Also shows he's not stupid. He thinks it's small even though it was out of context.

😢😮😢😮😢😮😢 so true
When you put those words in a song or in a poignant part of a script, it will always resonate. I think everybody has a part of them that long to go back somewhere they may or may not have been before that they call home
When I first saw this movie I was young, and the scene was very sad. Having stared death in the face, this hits on a totally different level. I really just wanted to die at home at that moment, not on a sidewalk alone.
" If it wouldn't be a waste of such damn fine enlisted man, I'd recommend you for OCS, Private Gump!" 😅

Mykelti Williamson should have been nominated and won a huge amount of awards for his work on Forest Gump. He is a chameleon and unrecognizable in his role. His intelligence impairment, similar to Forest, wasn't overplayed, wasn't a caricature of someone with developmental disabilities, and the chemistry between these two actors was next-level. He was fantastic in "Heat" and every movie and series I have seen him in.

I don't think Bubba was simple at all. He's that laid back backwater type but it doesn't make him stupid. He knew everything there is to know about the shrimping business which is impressive. However I don't think Bubba Gump Shrimp becomes the powerhouse it does without Lt. Dan.
I'm not sure if it's intentional but I don't think that drill Sgt actually insults or berates a single person. He talks in that hyper aggressive way but all he does is praise Gump and tell him how awesome he is.
@@vincentgoupil180the purpose of boot camp is to also build individuality but most importantly to be apart of a team, most of the time in the military you will have to be in a group, but you also have to make decisions that determine whether or not you or your soldiers come home, die in battle,or start a war by killing the wrong person, most of DI’s want you to think for yourself, but to also prioritize your squad.
