CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After Shingo's death, and despite some initial resistance, Tanaka (Roy Chiao) agrees to train Frank (Jean-Claude Van Damme) as a member of the Tanaka clan.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the aptly titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite (also spelled Kumatai), a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world-a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death (or near-death) between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux (who serves as the film's fight coordinator). Denied such niceties as production values, Bloodsport scores big-time in the violent action department. A sequel followed in 1995, inventively titled Bloodsport 2.

I loved Senzo Tanka. Actually, if you think on that so there is deep story here: He lost his world in the war, then tried to start over, passing on the teaching for Shingo was his way to get over the pain and memories, then he died too. Senzo is tragic, Frank actually took the place of a son for him, bringing honor to his shidoshi meaning to continue his heritage, even if only in symbolic way. This film has great music and epic music, it's underrated, but for me it's one of best films ever.
yes, it´s really the reason why this film made such an impact on our generation.
I actually thought as a child that it's possible to sleep with your eyes open... I tried for many nights because I believed I could do it for Shidoshi... I hadn't realized Tanakas were so sarcastic.
@michael cooper It doesn't say.
@michael cooper I would assume that Chong Li killed him in the Kumite.
@michael cooper fetanyl
This scene pumps me up. The music just hits.
Nothing reminds me of a lazy sat than this film
80s were a heck of a time
For real tho
Me to
That synth music is so 80s. Love it
It’s the best it touches souls
The way he almost breaks saying that second “father to son” always gets me
Me too
Absolutely, He seems like he is not even acting.
When he says "they lived in Hiroshima" of his first family, that was great acting too. He gives that energy where you know he accepted what has happened in the past but it was still painful to remember.
In ther german Version you get like nothing of that. His dubbing Voice does a good Job, but you can't hear much Emotions in that Scene.
you ain’t lying. it hits HARD.
Can't beat 80s films and sound tracks. Old is gold 😍
☀️☀️☀️✨👌
80s action movies inspired heart, determination, courage etc pretty much everything missing from movies these days. It taught Men that in the fight of life you will constantly fail but it's how you respond to the failures and how you overcome.
I miss those 80s soundtrack styles
The best ….
Me too.. I've been on an 80s kick. From shows to music.
Agreed. Way better than the hip hop bullshit in today's movies.
Lies again? Take Meds

This scene has a deep spiritual connection with me because martial arts saved my life .
❤❤
Snap bro
Tell that to those poor people who were in the ring with Chong Li.
Van Damme's acting is quite good in this scene
His acting is always great
He's quite good at this film, but this is his only good film in my opinion. I really loved this film, the music, the scenes, so much inspiration as teenager back in the very early 90's.
Quite.
He good actor he a box office hit
@@TheRosatus kickboxer was dope
When I was a kid, I fast forwarded through this scene. Watching it now, it's one of my favorite parts in the film.
Dammm it's true!
incredible observation. I think I may have to. This movie is so well written.
Same my friend
Same!
Most emotional part of the movie
As a father, trying to pass on knowledge (not martial science knowledge, unfortunately) to my own teenage son, this REALLY hits home.
Now when people ask me why, I reply,
“To honour you, shidoushi”
You are not a TANAKA!
I can't fucking watch this without getting glassy eyes, it's just so awesome.
Same bro I listen to the soundtrack at the gym and this came on. Luckily i was sweating and it wasn’t noticeable lol
You do not look like a Tanaka…
“Well I identify as a Tanaka.”
One of those movies Iv watched so many times but could still watch it today and enjoy it
You told me to use any tactic that works, never to commit myself to one style, to keep an open miiind!
+Matheus Alexandre That line Gives me CHILLS everytime!
Bruce Lee said the same thing
I think the line actually goes like this: "You taught me, using any technique that works, never to limit myself to one style, to keep an open mind!"
that technique works to everything in life, its just a life lesson
Best line ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is one of my favourite scenes in Bloodsport.
Absolutely the most iconic scene
Amazing
One of the most epic and motivating scenes.
You taught me using any technique that works, never to limit myself to one style. To keep an open mind.
Really preaches to Bruce Lee's philosophy on adaptability.
MMA in a nutshell - training differently, like they did in this film, and multiple styles/never limiting to traditional movements essentially - has produced the best fighting art on the planet.
It's true part of the script was taken from Bruce Lees teachings. Be like water!
Open miiiiiiind
The last answer ( to honor you ) was why he taught him. Great movie in 1980 in 2019 and in 8019
Tanaka's pain must be unimaginable but he felt a sense of NEW LIFE when Frank decided to honor him and his ancestors truly a powerful moment in a God Tier legendary film
One of my favorite scenes in any move EVER!!!!!! Gives me chills every watch
When JCVD made his hair move before saying “TEACH ME” = GOAT 🐐
Why does canelo live rent free in your
a$$hole
This scene is gold...feels so real
A very powerful scene indeed. Tanaka is a very strong man, because he suffered great pain, but found a way to continue his life.
If Senzo Tanaka is your Shidoshi then show us the dim mak
What the hell is a den mack?
Its dim mak kind of burger or something?
*Confused so starts unzipping pants
Nikola Tesla Very good dim mak, but brick not hit back!
Nikola Tesla hahahahaha
Van damme did great the real Frank Dux had a great imagination.... one of the Greatest martial arts movies of all time.
1:41 - 1:50 is essentially the essence of Jeet Kune Do.
“How come you teach him and not me?” -Dr. Disrespect
Goosebumps!
This is one of the best written scenes I have seen in any movie, ever. It inspired me to train, 30 years I am training the martial arts to this soundtrack. I now have a son. I just purchased him his first Judo gi. Father to son, father to...son.
Dio maturity is when u realise this huiya puhyiyaaa hu hu does not work in a real fight . Only stamena your speed in hands matters . And how hard u can hit....
In '96 when I was 5 yrs old, this one line always resonated with me - "To keep an open miiiiind" :D ALWAYS stuck with me.
"The honor you hidoshi" the motivating phrase in the world of the Martial arts and including in my boxing
Now when anyone ask me, "Why?", I always answer with, "To honour you, Shidoshi."
lol
You can tell the writers of this movie aren't Japanese because they refer to him as "shidoshi" instead of "sensei".
"If your enemy insist on war, you take away their ability to wage it" - Chozen.
3 people are not Japanese, they are not a Tanaka!
CWLightning Skillfull Gaming, maybe lmao
CWLightning Skillfull Gaming, maybe 😅
Zane Frazier, Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Dux's ex-wife, and jealous members of the Gracie family disliked this video.
The other seven weren't Japanese Johnny Lawrence, John Kreese, Terry Silver, Mike Barnes, Chozan, and Sato.
Naughtysauce the actor that portrayed him was Chinese.
I wish they did a proper sequel to bloodsport.
This is a great scene.
The teacher isn't a Tanaka either, he's Lao Che.
JohnnyOTGS lmaoooo hahaha good catch
JohnnyOTGS No more Temple of Doom for you...
Good bye Doctor Jones (laughs)
Lmao
Cool i didn’t notice it lol
Bloodsport, Kickboxer, and Cyborg...3 of JCVD's best movies of all times! 25 People are not Japanese, they are NOT a Tanaka!
Inspiration, respect and honor.
You are NOT A TANAKA!!!!
Neither of you LAO CHE !!!
No but he's a malakaa:))
Unfortunately there are way to many students and current pro fighters in MMA and Kickboxing who prefers to use thrashtalk and insult opponents . This was the right way to perform martial arts.
The Background music kills me Totally 80's
How can you not honour Senzo Tanaka after hearing his tragic story i would lose a limb for this guy lols
Yes
Here from Drdisrespect's livestream on 10-07-20. So inspirational man.
-Shidoshi, I feel like I've lost part of my family, too.
Shingo and I were close friends, like brothers
And you and Mrs. Tanaka...

YOU ARE NOT A TANAKA! Love this movie
I wish Jcvd to make a new bloodsport where he is the teacher
I think Hidosi saw shingo in Frank and believed in him, very powerful scene from a great movie 👊💯❤️
Roy Chiao (Shidoshi) appeared in a lot of films since 1950. RIP
Although its veracity is questioned there is a poignancy to this scene that is both heartbreaking & beautifully endearing, as it touches something deep in the soul. There is a sadness to this scene, as it brings tears to my eyes. It also makes me reflect with regret on those who I lost, those who I was intimate with yet never really got to know or who I wish I knew better. Gone though not forgotten. Hopefully through the miracle of my continued life on Earth I get to honor them via good works, compassion for others & by adhering to a strict code of moral living, all while searching for true meaning & purpose. The search goes on, as life goes on. Yet the memories never die. Another reason why scenes such as this one resonate so powerfully, so deeply & with such moving poignancy. It certainly touches a place deep in my heart, all as it brings about a sadness, along with much reflection & remembrance. Great Scene!
Using any technique that works never limit myself to one style to keep an open mind hmmm? I think I will add that to my wealth building strategy 🤔
never to limit myself to one style
This movie is pretty over the top in most ways, but this scene is truly great
31 years passed, who would believe...
I would.
Very good script. Nice movie
This was the only scene that had the best acting, it felt very real.
Bloodsport❤❤❤ best of 80s.
💪😎❤️👍😀 This is my favourite jcvd movie. This movie makes me feeling good.
Roy Chao in two classic martial art movie's Enter the dragon and Blood sport.
to keep an open miiiiiiinnnnddddd!!
Bloodsport 😘😘😘😘😘
Instead of answering he totally changes the subject there. "you are not Japanese you are not a tanaka! " you told me to use any tactics that works"
The whole sentence included "To keep an open mind". He was basically telling tanaka, that he was not keeping an open mind to teaching a non japanese., when Tanaka himself told him to keep an open mind about styles.
@@chucky2578 still he is not Japanese he is not a Tanaka. but I get what your saying
He got called out on one of his own lessons of martial science and he backed it up by choosing to invite frank into the Tanaka clan. Well done.
Good performance from tanaka
Yayayay the 2x is a Tanaka
"The war was wrong. We left Japan, start a new family."

To honor you... SHIDOSHI!

Sensai: YOU ARE NOT A TANAKA!!!! 😂 😅😅😂😂😂😂 💀 ☠️
"She-yoshi-toshi-doshi"...gotta love those 80's buzz words that make these movies "japaneasy" lol
That’s that Chong Li technique. The only way to defeat is with Tanaka-style ninjutsu.
"You are not Japanese, you are not even American. And you didn't bring me Belgian waffel!"
who make a joke at this scene? odd generation.
Vaaaaaaary goooooooood ( to quote Hossein from another scene in the movie).
"in the war, I lost my first family. my son, daughter... and wife"

Nice Try Lao Che! Lol 😂
haha you can tell he's a chinaman when he says to Dux " to pass on de teeachings" he sounds so chinaman there:) No Japanese authenticity whatsoever.
Shingo never makes to Blood Sport they never showed what happened to him later in life.
he went to war and got killed.
In the script, Shingo died in a car accident.
I always assumed he was the one chung li killed in the last kumite.
1:37 it's me when I try to eat rolls with chopsticks)
1:19 holding his tears...
Goosebumps
Great movie
Chon Li killed Shingo. During the film it is said that Chon Li had killed someone in recent past kumite. It was Shingo who found his death at the underground Kumite.
I wondered about that also
I recently buy a book
How to be a TANAKA.
Being a Tanaka for dummies.
Everytime I see and listen to this something comes out inside of me and then I understand I must train not for anything other than living.
