- Googie is my mother and she has been making patchwork quilts for sale and pleasure for over fifty years. Here she shows you step by step how you can make patchwork like she does. The patterns she makes are inspired by traditional American Log Cabin designs. Enjoy!

Log cabin quilts were used n the USA to help guide slaves escaping via thru th Underground Railroad to freedom to the North, sometimes all the way to Canada. Key was the color of the center block. They were hung on clothes lines.

It is so wonderful Googie is still quilting. I have two closets with shelves full of handmade quilts. I grew up buried under quilts in the wintertime. We always had wood stoves or a fireplace and it would be in the main living area. The bedrooms never had heat. Even today I barricade my bedroom from all heat in the winter. I can only sleep with tons of covers over my bed. God bless y'all

I am also a hand sewer! Am at my 193 th quilt. Mostly bed spreads size. Made 20 by hand since Covid started. Almost all in Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I find machine patchwork work and when I sew by hand it is relaxing.

When I come across people like this I applaud them. I live in Ireland and where I live is
a dead zone where crafts are concerned. Tried motivating people to start a group even
went to the adult education officer to see could craft classes be arranged no success.

This is an unusual question. I am a quilter and retired to southern Spain. I have 27 containers of fabric from certified quilt shops in the US. I do not have room in my apartment. Do you know of anyone or a shop that might be interested in buying. Prices to sell. Any information will be appreciated

hmmm - twenty seven containers is a LOT! maybe online auction? is there a quilting community in Spain which might be interested? Maybe take a stall at the knitting and stitching show in Harrogate but I don't think you'd sell 27 containers full! x
The kaffe fassett you point at is not a Kaffe Fassett but the very pale lilac and green is a very old Kaffe Fassett. I am 10 years younger as your mum but I quilt about 45 years and am at my 193 th hand sewn quilt. Not counting small things like pillows and so. Lately , the past 5 years, I almost always work with Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Never made a Log Cabin in all those years. It does not appael to me….
ah ok - I'm no Kaffe Fassett expert but Mum does love Kaffe Fassett fabric - she loves colour and her eyesight isn't what it was so bold colours are just up her Strasse x
