A tour of Mum’s garden summer 2022… she has a broken ankle

  • Have a wander round Georgie’s Mum’s garden. Very different from Common Farm Flowers, this is a plantswoman’s garden, a garden of curated views surrounding endless enchanting details, and a wonderful patchwork of plants, all growing from the side of a fell in Cumbria in the north west of England. Googie is an artist and quilter, and her garden shows this fact.
Would Georgie be a flower farmer if she hadn't been paid to weed her mum's garden by the yard as a child? Possibly not! Certainly the assumption that a veggie patch is no veggie patch without a stand of sweet peas started Georgie on that road.
Have a little tour here of Googie's garden - a treasure trove of clever planting, wildlife friendly corners, patchwork hedges, and details as minute and enchanting to find as the tiny embroidered corner of a treasured patchwork quilt.
If you enjoy the tips and tricks Georgie gives you here, or would simply like to support the channel, the link to her Buy Me a Coffee page is Here: You can buy me a coffee here www.buymeacoffee.com/COMMONFARM
If you'd like to join Georgie on any of her other flower farming, floristry or small business workshops do have a look at the calendar here and book your place: www.commonfarmflowers.com/pag...
If you're ordering a download or booking a place on our workshops the website will ask you to choose a delivery date - any date will do! And if you can't join our sessions live then you are still very welcome to book as we send the recording and notes of the workshop out to everyone afterwards, so you can download the session and refer back to it as and when you need to.

The purple dry garden is the most beautiful purple garden I have ever seen. I imagine that was the best moment to capture.

I know exactly how 'Googie' feels. In Sept 2021 I slipped down the hill while gardeniing (aged 70) and broke my ankle (first broken bone for me too) incapacitated in a wheelchair for weeks and we had literally just signed a contract the day before to sell our property. So my husband had to keep three-quarters of an acre presentable; do all the packing himself, look for a place to rent while looking for a place to buy. Then what did we do? Buy 3 acres with hardly a flat place to walk! No fools like old fools. Enjoyed the video and wish 'Googie' a speedy recovery. 🧡

Googie's giggling and saying hope the three acres are coming on nicely x

@@theflowerfarmer This may add to the giggles; the only way I could access indoors was via indoor staircase (16 steps) on my butt using my elbows to lift me up and onto each step! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Georgie! Your generosity in sharing your vast knowledge about flower farming is profound - I am a new flower farmer (tho gardener for decades)and couldn’t have done it without your top tips and gorgeous videos, so deeply grateful for your generosity and humor, and positivity, but I must say, these tours of your mother’s garden I love best of all, because they bring us all ( by “us” I mean ppl who choose the farmer/florist path!) back to the beginning, the why, the magic..to walk in another person’s garden who is free from the demands of “the farm,” just solely the art and to see why your bouquets and arrangements have all the light and motion and wildness and poetry of entire garden in them…an entire garden in your bouquets! And time too, all the ways of light… I just love these tours/commentary/love of your mother’s garden. Because…it’s the root of the art. And it’s easy to forget that with all the other demands. But you haven’t forgotten. And you share that, too. So grateful, Georgie. Thank you, from north east USA.

I love that nasturtium. I love Meadowsweet too - there's loads of it at Ham Wall. Being there on a summer afternoon when it's been raining and the sun comes out is my ultimate happy place, the smell is incredible. 😊

Wishing your mum a speedy and full recovery! I had to smile when you mentioned the “plate” at the start. My Mum wasn’t the best patient either, when she was no longer able to do things for herself, and I don’t believe I did ANYTHING exactly the way she wanted it, or would have done it herself!😂 Keep smiling!
