After 20 years of quilting, the Log cabin still remains my favorite. Thank you for sharing this very interesting video!

Back around 1984, I made a very large Log Cabin Quilt. However, when I started it, I was living in another state. I used the layout of one I had viewed in a magazine. Later, when my mother saw my unfinished quilt (it was partly quilted) she jumped on me for not doing my quilt the only way she had ever seen it done. So I ripped the quilting out, took the seams out between the blocks, and sewed it together to please my mother. I used it as a bed spread for years; and, I never liked my quilt made the way Mom insisted that it to be made. I still have that old quilt. It needs a lot of repairs to the top (but the backing and batting are still good). I think it is time to make a new log cabin top (for my old quilt) the way I want to make it. I should hand tie it, because it is already quilted. The new top will be made of all new fabrics.
Mom passed almost 12 years ago (she was 92 years old when she passed). I wish she could have seen this video. It would have been hard to get her to set down in front of a computer (she though a computer was the devil's work). If Mom could have seen the beautiful quilts you showed me today, I don't think she would not have liked her way of making a Log Cabin Quilt top.
    Thank you for this video.
Note: I was in the U.S. Army. "There is a right way, there is a wrong way, and there is the Army's way. When you are in the Army you will do it the Army's way." I did not have any trouble adjusting to Army life; because, there was the right way, the wrong way, and there was Mom's way at home.

My first quilt was an Eleanor Burns Log Cabin. Then I met Mary Ellen Hopkins and found that you can piece in front of the TV watching Cheers, that nearly any quilt block triangle can be pieced from a log cabin. Size doesn't matter. Quilts don't need to be fancy & quilt show worthy that simple quilts can be made and loved and that is okay to "Sit on my quilt".

You are correct...great beginner quilt. It was my 2nd "completed quilt for my 2nd child. My first "completed" was Around the World for my first (without a rotary cutter). 1988 and 1996. Now just getting back into it and I love your videos because they are truly...this is how you learned to do it in the 80's now look how far we have come, but look at how we got here. Love your approach.

Hi Kaye, I only came across you recently so I have been binge watching your tutorials. I absolutely love them, I love your approach to the freedom of choice to suit peoples individual taste. I have purchased the book on pieced boarders that you recommended in one of your clips, ( not sure which tutorial it was) so I am having a go. I have only been quilting for about 2 years but we all have to start somewhere and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
Many thanks for your all of your tutorials.

How interesting! You could make every quilt a log cabin and every one would be different. You piqued my interest in trying a different version, especially with the heart log cabin and the flower petals log cabin, they're very creative and interesting. Thank you for the inspiration! This is just what I need to get out of my quilting rut.

    Hi, Kaye
What a treat it’s been to come across your videos recently. I’ve had the opportunity to take 3 multi-day workshops with you through Inspired to Sew of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The last session was when you encouraged me to get the Go Big! Accuquilt cutter. I was so frustrated that I couldn’t cut accurately anymore because of the arthritis in my hands. You and the crew were so constantly kind to cut for me. I was in tears, and you sent me over to Jill for a personal demonstration of the machine. I went home that afternoon with the Go Big! and some basic dies and it’s been worth every penny.
Thanks for your influences, wisdom, whacky sense of humor and clear eyed views on so very many topics.
    With affectionate respect
    Melinda Ostergren

I’ve rescued several quilts and tops from auctions and shows and my favorite is a twin sized log cabin utility quilt that is tattered and frayed and leaking stuffing at a steady pace. The logs are .5” wide, it’s utterly soft and warm and comforting.

I made a log cabin with wider logs on 2 sides that I found in a book. (Don't remember the name) It creates a circular pattern. The book did careful color placement that created a layered, almost 3-D effect. Very modern and unusual.

These are beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration. I have been searching for your Star Flower (curved log cabin) project sheet and could not find it. So as I was trying to figure out how it is made, it seems that number of rows in the dark side are different from the light side. Is this possible? I appreciate your help and if you can point me to your project sheet, it also would be appreciated.

When I started quilting, I didn't know how to follow a pattern, so all my quilts were "pictorial." (Like a clown falling from a ladder while painting a giraffe, fun with some multi-color paint-spatter fabric I found.) I was out of work, in a wheelchair, and made quilts to sell for added income.
Then my mother bought me a book of log cabin designs and said "Make me one like this...." So my first "pattern" quilt was a log cabin. LOL
