OP touched on this a bit already. Im a little over 2 years in, now and honestly I love this game and all the aspects of the hobby in general. My only warning to give anyone who sees this is to take your time. I still haven't played a game at an actual shop open night or tournament. The only social interaction I have had so far is that some of the workers are cool and a few are pretending to be interested in what you are saying to them. It can feel like you are expected to know everything about it before you get in a store. That isn't the case. Make 1 friend or get a starter set and play it with them or by yourself. Get the army you fall in love with first because that is what is important. Not competitive lists and not meta gaming. I have won games against friends with lucky roles and use of abilities as much as good strategy. I have lost games for the same reasons. If you aren't enjoying the game, even if you are losing, you might be soured on the hobby. You can read all you like, you can listen to the audio books and TH-cam videos on the lore and still just enjoy that aspect of this world. You do not have to be a master painter at first. I got way too many models first and I practiced each stage of the painting on all of the models collectively. Repetition is so helpful for getting better. Green stuff is your best friend here. Do not be scared of stripping the first attempt and trying again. Finally... no fuckin retailer aside from the 2 main sites that make game mats and turrain have tables that are the standard game board side. 44-30 44-60. You will be better off just getting some finished plywood and using it as a topper on the table you have available. Also you don't have to play on the standard board size in the core book.

@@HistoryoftheAges The reason people are boycotting, is because this IP has ridden on the backs of creators like these in order to get where they are.
