Hi, just wanted to pop in with a basing tip! There is a product known as Play Dirt. It's like kinetic sand, but colored to look like regular dirt. I found some at a dollar store and absolutely swear by it. Mix in a little gravel or sand for some easy dimension, spread it over the glue, brush off the excess, add a pebble or bush or something, and BOOM, perfect bases every time.

Some cost effective alternatives when getting into Warhammer: - 2D Paper miniatures. Just print, cut, and glue, and you're ready to go. - 3D Printed miniatures. Takes an initial investment and requires extra effort, but the result is minis that cost pennies. Plus you get a 3D printer. - If the books are putting you off, consider One Page Rules, with Grimdark Future and Age of Fantasy. It's simple and free, and has stats for just about everything in Warhammer (just with different names). - Also, a great resource for terrain is Wyloch's Armory. Similar to Black Magic Craft, but much easier for beginners, and with a focus on 40k terrain.
I still have never played warhammer but you got me watching hundreds of hours of painting tutorials. From squidmar to miniac to midwinter. It took about six months of binging their videos before putting my own paint to mini. Now it’s become an integral bonding experience with my teenager and my girlfriend and I can’t thank you enough. This video has honestly changed my life, and I know that seems dramatic. But as a touring musician that can’t tour right now, this gave me an outlet that I realllllllly needed. Thanks man.
A lot of people (including Marcus) might hate this, because the models are a huge part of the game for many. However when I was younger, my older brother and his friends would play using different colored army men or index cards with the unit info written on it and a tally of the casualties. It’s a great way to get into the gameplay without spending as much. Still need the books, but it’s at least a little cheaper.
You can literally use cardboard/paper cutouts, ive seen people do it. And you can find rules online, same as with codexes (even though thats techincally not allowed). Basically, if you just wanna play the game, you can do it almost for free, or even on PC via tabletop simulator for way less money. But I honestly mostly paint stuff and thats the part I actually enjoy. And building lists is fun.
"Not basing your models is for AMATEURS." I just... I just feel tired enough after painting the models that I don´t wanna base them too. Bases feel like second tier stuff to me.
Been watching TTS for years, never played the game. Now I'm kinda thinking of getting into the hobby, Magnus is my fav so I might want to try the Thousand Sons.
I know right? We all just have to block from our minds the definitely not possible, definitely not arousing concept of the Slaaneshi futa demon squads and armies that certainly nobody has actually gone to the lengths to create. This must be blocked from the minds of all at any cost lest the taint of chaos spread far and wide.
Live in the UK? Live near Nottingham? Go to Warhammer world. That place is the shit. They have good food and around 100 tables fully kitted out. There is also 2 shops and an entire desplay area that will take you around an hour to walk around. I have been on f*cking school trips there, that's how good it is.
"Snake women" You call that weird? Please, they're a dime-a-dozen in fantasy games these days. Now aquatic elves that ride sea monsters on the other hand.....
Perhaps it's because we old veterans are a bit jaded and their enthusiasm warms our cold, decrepit hearts, sucked dry by the infinite need of GW for our money. But god damn it, if isn't worth it. (I started in early 5th, if you're curious, that's now 12 years ago jesus fucking christ)

play more dawn of war 1, finish all the campaigns! and dawn of war 2 is also awesome, but treat it like a seperate game. also play the campaign after the first dawn of wars
FOR THE GREATER GOOD! This video is really great. I’ve been a 40K lurker for 5 years and a Fantasy lurker for even longer. As an unemployed broke 18 year old college student it’s been a real struggle to get into this hobby. I just got my first few models (obviously Tau) and have painted a couple, and I’m not very good but it’s fun. I wish I had friends like yours who are not only into tabletop games, but the kind of narrative campaign I’d love to play. Warhammer is seriously one of the coolest fictional universes ever, up there with Star Wars, Middle Earth, etc.
I always thought, "I'm bad at fighting games." Then your video about how to get into fighting games made me think, "Why should that stop me?" I always thought, "I'm not very good at painting and my miniatures would look bad." Now I'm asking myself that question again.
I'm actually one of those dudes you talked about who's listened to hundreds of 40k audiobooks without painting a single miniature. But I'm very proud of myself to say that you inspired me to paint my very first one the other day. It was just a regular Dark Angels tactical marine and at first I hated my paint job. But now I look at it like a stepping stone to getting better at painting. Gotta start somewhere, so thank you Cosmonaut :)
If you don't want to spend huge sums on models, check out Reaper Miniature's "Reaper Bones" product line. $2 - $5 for pretty much any figure, barring the really big stuff. The detail / quality won't be nearly as great as GW's, but it's a great way to get painting for cheap. Your biggest expense this route will be paints themselves, and even then just get Red, Yellow, Blue, Black and White and you can mix together any color you need.
Its relaxing up until the point qhere some part just doesnt want to fit, the shader doesnt come out the way you want or you drybrush the FUCK out of a miniature you spent hours on, essentially putting you back to hour one or two

@@saurosthewise7371 You have name an enemy for life! They do have some traits they share with communism, but enough differences that you can't accurately call them that. It's also interesting that the Tau's caste system is horizontal, not vertical. There is no hierarchy among the castes. Some would say the Ethereals are above all, but even they see their position as a duty, not a privilege, to be used only to benefit society at large.

Hi, just wanted to pop in with a basing tip! There is a product known as Play Dirt. It's like kinetic sand, but colored to look like regular dirt. I found some at a dollar store and absolutely swear by it. Some cost effective alternatives when getting into Warhammer:
- 2D Paper miniatures.

Building and painting minitures sounds like a pretty relaxing thing to do tbh, maybe when I’ve got a bit more disposable income, I’ll pick it up!
It's absurdly relaxing. I was seriously surprised by it.
It’s basically like an advanced colouring in book that you can use to play a strategy game with.
