Games Workshop have recently released some free rules for how to play Kill Team and a new Intercessor Team! I'll leave a link to this below as well as one for the JamHammer PayPal wallet if you would like to help to support the channel. Any donations would be gratefully received and will be put towards creating more and better content in the future: www.warhammer-community.com/2022/08/16/download-the-core-rules-for-kill-team-and-a-new-intercessor-team-for-free/ www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=SGLKW2EDJU8RS
Whoever came up with the idea of using those shapes for inches is a madman. So the triangle with 3 sides represents 1 inch. The circle with 1 side represents 2 inches The square with 4 sides represents 3 inches, The pentagon with 5 sides represents 6 inches. So logical!
Just got my KillTeam boxset today, already warned the kids they have a duty to play the old man once its assembled and painted. This video really helped me get my head around the rules, I have never played a tabletop game before, I just like painting minis and have done since my D&D days in the late 80's.
I love how you visualized the attacks being blocked or going through by physically matching up dice or moving them past each other. Just a small detail that really helped me picture how things should go
Thank you for this very clear tutorial! I like the mechanism of alternating activations between sides instead of activating all models on one side en masse.
That's literally the only reason I don't play 40k. It's one of the few tabletop wargames that still clings to mass activation. Even One Page Rules version of 40k uses alternating activations. It's significantly more fun and engaging, and frankly, feels more fair.
@@ForTheOmnissiah yeah those first turns in 40k with mass activation can take forever, especially once you get to 2000 point armies. Not heard of the One Page Rules version but reading through their Grimdark Future and it sounds very interesting to play!
TLDR: Long time fan of the lore/video games, recently began collecting/painting again and learning to play regular 40k in TTS - Great tutorial! Very comprehensive. Definitely subscribing! I began collecting and painting Warhammer minis just a couple of months ago for the first time since my folks bought me a box of Termagaunts around 20-something years ago after a friend had introduced me to it. Of course, because I was too young to have my own income, I never continued with the hobby. Started with the Infernus Marines kit to give me a good base of paints to work from. Got those done, then worked on an Ork Warboss in Mega Armour and extra paints (my three armies will eventually be Orks, Death Guard, and Salamanders for some Imperium goodness!). Just finished my first Myphitic Blight Hauler last night, and my first Pain Boy is already primed XD I also have Mozrog, Squighog Boyz, a set of Poxwalkers, a Brutalis Dreadnought for my Sallies (which comes with Sallies Transfers if anyone is wondering, it does not list which particular transfers come with it on most sites), and I have a Breaka Boss on Troggoth from AoS just because he looks badass and I wanted to paint him. What brought me here was wanting Ork Kommandos in my army, and then realising that grabbing the full kit with the Guardsman and all extras for gameplay for literally $2 more than the single kit of the Kommandos alone, I was in! Just needed a kickstart to learn how to play this vs 40K regular and your video was perfect. Picking up my Kill Team Box today :)
great video mate, definitely convinced me to invest. Looks like a really fun way to get into Warhammer without the crushing weight of a 2000 point army
I finally picked up the book after waffling on KT for years and this was a great help for someone like me who has played many skirmish games for many years but is new to this one specifically. Clear, easy to follow, great examples, and going between this and the book has helped me understand a lot very quickly
My this years resolution was to get learn and get in a game of Kill Team by the end of march. Now that the month is coming to an end, this videos helped me out a lot to get started.
Your videos are absolutely brilliant. You have taught me to play blood bowl and kill team. I genuinely enjoy your teaching style. You are interesting and easy to listen to, everything explained simply.
Thank you very much! I was able to set a game in half an hour and start playing! A great explanation indeed, clear and effective! Keep up the awesome work!
Agreed, it's nothing but a wasteful extra step of translation. And you now need two pieces of plastic to measure in stead of one piece with one-inch increment markings that you could get from any super market or book store... Which is probably why whoever thought of it got a raise in stead.
Great video dude!! Thankyou for taking the time to fully explain how to play kill team. I’m new to the game and found this really useful as I couldn’t find it anywhere else on TH-cam. I haven’t checked ytterbium rest of your channel, but doing a video on which books you need to play/ which are the up to date ones would be amazing. Keep up the good work 👍
Really glad to hear that you enjoyed it and found it useful; hope that you enjoy playing Kill Team! That's a great idea thanks - haven't done a video on the books for it yet so I'll have to look into making one
Great video, nice explanation for new players. Minor nitpick: To score an objective, the unit only has to be within circle, i.e. 2 inches of the center of the objective. If there are several units contesting the objectice, the unit, or group mof units with most APl "scores" the objective. Which makesd comms units and high APL (seargeants etc.) so strong!
Great intro to the game. Had my first game today. This highlighted and explained quite a few bits we either glossed over or got plain wrong. (Double shooting admech were quire OP). Would def like to see another going over some advanced stuff like invuns and AP
Thanks very much! Glad you found it useful and hope you enjoyed your first game Yeah will look into doing a follow-up on more advanced features that weren't covered in this intro video
after collecting and painting like a maniac i have my first game today, thank you so much for the video i will hve to watch it a few times more but this wiull be so fun
Very well done, sir. Clear, concise and calm. I haven’t played Killteam in a while and even then just a few games. That’s the perfect refresher to get back into it. Thanks a lot! I also really hope you put out a how to play video for 10th edition in the next months. 🤞
Very kind of you! Really glad you found this useful for getting back into a game or two Ooh yes the Leviathan box looks immense so watch this space for a 10th edition video 😀
Thank you for a clean, concise, and informative video on Kill Team. It's been so difficult for me to wrap my head around the rules with just the book (which, at the time of writing, is apparently no longer up to date?).
Playing my first game tomorrow. Im using veteran guard (painted in yellow raincoats) vs my friends tyranids. Awsome video dude, im feeling alot more confident about the rules now 🙂
Regarding the fight @ 22:35 If the 4 he rolled is a valid save, could you use it + your free save from being in cover to cancel the crit instead of just 1 normal?
At 18:57, the model moves from one side of the barricade to the other, paying the standard (circle/2") to do so. The rules, however, state that it costs 2" to move up and down the barricade, so you'd need to measure the remaining 4" of his movement from where he started, not from where he stands on the other side of the barricade. If he used the first 2" of movement to step around the barricade, that's fine, but not if he's hopping over. This is important because if a model's base is larger than 1" (larger than 25mm), it cannot traverse a barricade with just a dash move or a move of less than 4".
Hmm maybe I've been playing wrong. For turn 1 we have been picking 1 2 or 3 dice (secretly) then revealing them. The amount of dice we pick is associated with something (free pregame dash, 1 extra barricade, or change 1 operative order). Depending what you pick determines who has initiative for first turning point
Not at all! You've got it right that you pick those dice as a Scouting option then reveal them to determine first turning point initiative for Matched and Narrative games. For this video though I was just going with the simplest Open Play style that doesn't feature Scouting
This is the first good video I was able to find that actually explains how to start a game of Kill Team for newbies. The only thing I was unable to find in the core book was any mention that you can only perform an action once per activation. I was under the impression that a model could move twice, fight twice, or shoot twice for their actions if they had enough action points. Can you let me know where this is mentioned in the core book? The only thing I can find that hints to it is the Dash action, as if this isn't a rule, it would be completely pointless.
Thanks very much and glad that you found it useful for starting out with Kill Team! Absolutely; in the core book it's mentioned very briefly on page 60 just above the section on Overwatch: "Unless otherwise specified, an operative cannot perform the same action more than once during its activation". It's really easy to miss as it's just one sentence hidden amidst a bunch of other rules! It's hinted at in the Kommando Dakka Boy example section in italics on page 60 too. Hope this helps
The medic veterans (and most other medics in the game) have two abilities that can help to heal up other operatives: The first one allows you to instantly revive another operative that would otherwise be killed without having to activate the medic. The medic and wounded operative lose 1 from their Action Point Limit for this turn, they need to be within 3 inches of each other (square symbol), they need to be Visible to each other, and neither can be within Engagement Range of an enemy operative. The saved operative gets to live with a single wound remaining, any remaining shooting dice against it get discarded, and it gets to make a free Dash action towards the medic. You can only do this once per operative per game. The second ability costs 1 Action Point, so needs to be on the medic's activation, and lets you heal up to 2D3 wounds on another operative that's within 1 inch (triangle symbol) away. You can't use this on an operative you just revived though. Hope this helps!
I just figured out I can play killteam with cardboard, some objects such as mugs and other small things, some cardboard cutouts or pennies, my phone with dice apps, wahapedia and a pair of kommandos and greenskin roaster! Welp time to get my father into killteam I guess!
Haha very true; wish I'd worked that out before putting down £100+ on a starter set! There's a free app here as well that you can use on your phone/computer to track all the rosters for Kill Team to make things even easier: battlescribe.net Hope you and your father enjoy playing!
Superb stuff! Was just wondering, but I heard something about injury rolls. Is that an old rule, or like a newer/specific rule? Also, I heard someone say that the game doesn't just end at turn 4, but has an increasing chance to end every turn after turn 3. Is this a homebrew ruling?
Thanks very much! Yeah injury rolls are from the previous edition of the game where you had to worry about flesh wounds and being 'taken out of action', but aren't used in this version. In the rulebook it's a fixed four turns so might be a homebrew ruling?

@@filth1744 nice one! Glad it helped and hope you've been having a good time with Kill Team 😀

So the triangle with 3 sides represents 1 inch.
The circle with 1 side represents 2 inches
The square with 4 sides represents 3 inches,
The pentagon with 5 sides represents 6 inches.
So logical!
at least flip triangle and circle, so ascending number of corners is comparable to ascending order of inches.
Or just have numbers and a measuring stick, people learn those around the age of 5.
It makes almost as much sense as using inches over cm.
I'd why they don't just use either inches or cm
yeah, I thought this!

The method of activation removes most of the 'waiting for your turn' drudgery! Thank you for this easy-to-follow tutorial.
And it also means you're not at risk of losing half of your forces before getting to do anything.
@@CordovanSplotchVT yeah i love this, it feels more like everything's actually happening at the same time rather than something like D&D turns

As a total beginner to 40k and tabletop games in general that helped KT seem much less overwhelming thanks 🙏

Why was I so invested in the guardsmen winning and was genuinely upset when the guardsmen wanted to charge right into the flamer Ork?
TBF it worked out for the guardsman I guess. Is overwatch not a thing in killteam?
I guess I should watch the whole video before commenting
Very good but you did not mention how you can switch operatives orders in all subsequent turning points after the first turning point.
13:10 this is what I needed, how the dice work
I have a question for the veteran guardsmen what about the medics? How would they work?
The medic veterans (and most other medics in the game) have two abilities that can help to heal up other operatives:
The first one allows you to instantly revive another operative that would otherwise be killed without having to activate the medic.

Haha very true; wish I'd worked that out before putting down £100+ on a starter set! There's a free app here as well that you can use on your phone/computer to track all the rosters for Kill Team to make things even easier:

Hope you and your father enjoy playing!
This is a great and helpful video. Thanks.
nice introduction we used it to get the rules "read" once again before we played today
Thank you! Glad you found it useful for your game
what is the little jingle you use for your intro? Thank you!

Brill! Thanks very much for your support and glad you liked the tutorial 😁
Great video helped me out alot thanks!
Can you build a Kill Team with existing minis or do you need to buy the specific box sets?
Superb stuff!
Was just wondering, but I heard something about injury rolls. Is that an old rule, or like a newer/specific rule? Also, I heard someone say that the game doesn't just end at turn 4, but has an increasing chance to end every turn after turn 3. Is this a homebrew ruling?
Thanks very much!
Yeah injury rolls are from the previous edition of the game where you had to worry about flesh wounds and being 'taken out of action', but aren't used in this version. In the rulebook it's a fixed four turns so might be a homebrew ruling?
Bloody fantastic video
Ok thank super help full . Got the box for mu b-day
What book are you using for the data card??
Thanks in advance
Amazing job, thank you so much!
