I don't mention undercoating miniatures in this video because it is aimed at people who just want to try painting a miniature. Undercoating adds extra cost and complication that isn't really needed for 2 miniatures. if you decided you want to get serious painting miniatures then I do recommend undercoating your miniatures first. I have an updated version of this tutorial for 10th edition, so make sure to go check that ot as well th-cam.com/video/OBxZXnCvU1o/w-d-xo.html
@@kratos.8151 I have all the paints used in this video in the Paints+Tools set. Maybe you bought the new version of it which is meant to be used with the 10th edition starter set.
That’s a huge compliment. I remember what it was like to start out and all the things I wish I knew. Just having a good over all idea of painting helps get you on the right track 😄
@@JuanCB162 thank you for the kind words. I can’t get to your comment through tabletop for some reason sorry 🤷🏼♂️ I try to make the most useful tutorials I can that people Can actually use themselves 😁
My favorite thing about this video is how you only used the starter set and the models look great! Mixing the paints for highlights instead of having to buy those extra colors is awesome for us starting out that can’t afford all the paints required. Thank you.
I really wanted a self contained and easy to follow along tutorial. I think doing it this way gives people the confidence and reassurance they can also do what I do in the video because I use exactly the same
It's been 30 years since I enjoyed painting Warhammer as a kid. And now I get to enjoy it all over again as my little lad gets stuck into it. This video has been inspirational to us both. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for helping me back into this world of Warhammer.
welcome back to the hobby :D I do have an updated and much better version of this video for the new edition that I released recently. I really recomend watching that as well :D
I just came across this video after watching some 40k lore videos. The next day I went to my local model shop and bought everything in this video and started painting my space marine. My 10 year old self would be so proud. Thanks for the easy and informative video. You have sparked a long lost hobby and I cannot wait to finish painting my marine!
Welcome back to the hobby :) I love hearing how my videos have helped people either start or get back into the hobby. You should be proud and I hope you continue and learn and get better. good luck :D
Amazing. It’s always been my goal with this channel to give people the knowledge and confidence that they are capable of painting fantastic looking miniatures no matter your skill level. Keep it up 💪🏻
I love that this is a complete utorial, not just the painting itself. I think lots of people new to Warhammer are also new to model building in general and maybe think you need to spend 100's on all sorts of stuff and need a full hobby basement or garage or something. To be able to literally reproduce every step of the entire proces as described in this video is great!
Thank you. This is why I made this video. Because other videos out there are too all over the place and I wanted to make something that people could actually use and all information is in one place and is as easy to follow as I could make it 😃
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam Yeah it's great. I even made my 14 year old son watch this before starting on our models. It's a bit of a rabbit hole and unfortunately likely to get intimidated by all the professionals showing how "easy" it is to make nice looking models. To really understand how difficult it is to actually get going while you have absolutely no idea what you are doing however....
The miniatures have gotten tons better but 40k is still a giant imbalanced mess and it has only gotten worse over the years. I still enjoy my backlog of models, and making diorama's. Luckily I'm not forced to play it and unfortunately there is no alternative in my area since with tabletop games a game nobody else is playing is pretty useless. I have taken a huge liking to modern miniature board games however. Such as Resident Evil 2, and Zombicide. I get to play with miniatures I can paint and you can usually get random people to play and have fun and nobody needs to make a $700+ investment.
@Slim Jim don't need to make high investment just 2 friends or just yourself buy command edition and your sorted with just few extra minis and you get free terrain
Dude i really dont know what to say. I watched this video at least 5 times. I looked for other guides/step by step videos, but this one... man this video is amazing. The Details he explains and everything step by step. By far the absolute best beginners video.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I’m really glad you liked it. I set out to make a tutorial that I would have wanted. It’s important to help people get started and provide a full tutorial that can be followed easily with as much info as possible
Thank you. Glad you liked it 😁 having all this experience. It’s always interesting to go back and work out how you could use these products to there max
I've been contemplating starting this hobby off and on for months now... watched countless how-to videos, always looked too complicated. But your video has truly inspired me! Just purchased the starter kit and some Ultramarines. 😊
Your very welcome. You never stop learning, especially the basics. If you get the basics right and work on improving them, then all your other techniques automatically improve. It’s win win.
My son and I have been talking about getting started with 40k for awhile now, but have been a little daunted by the startup with the minis and painting. You break it down so well and so simply you gave us both the push to make the leap.
This video is great. Used to paint when I was 12 (badly) but now I'm 35 and have a real urge to start again. This has inspired me to buy the paint set and marines!
Brilliant. 😃 it’s great you want to give the hobby another go. It’s a whole lot easier these days with all the products now available. Good luck and enjoy doing it. Don’t have any expectations.
I also used to paint badly when I was 12 and am also now 35 and have been back into it and loving it for the past year and a half! You won’t regret it 😁
I just bought this exact setup pluses the elite starter so my son and I can give our lives to TTG in 40k and this video made us not feel overwhelmed and confident! Great vid!
that's great, I love hearing about people getting into the hobby. just take your time with everything, there is no reason to rush. it's important to spend this time getting your head around everything because I know how overwhelming it can be
I've just starting painting my space wolves again after many years away from 40K and this video was so helpful and informative thank you. Really showed the breakdown of how you paint these days. Awesome stuff 👍🏻
Your very welcome. It’s why I made this tutorial, so people could kind of get a better understanding of painting miniatures. I hope you’ve seen my space wolf tutorial 😋 good luck with your painting journey, I hope you get as much from it as I do
After 30 years since I put down my OG 40k minis and paint brushes, I've taken up the hobby again. Alot has changed in that time! Really enjoying your content for a long over due refresher.
I’ve been in this hobby for nearly 30 years myself. There has been a lot of changes but they are for the better. So much more accessible. Welcome back to the hobby 😃 I hope you enjoy it. I do have an updated version of this video for the current edition
Thank you so much for putting this tutorial up. As a beginner it's really hard to follow along complex long tutorials online but thanks to this video I managed to do a full starter set (recruit edition) without getting stressed.
Brilliant. this is why I made this video. I wanted to make getting into the hobby as easy as possible while explaining everything in detail. I'm really glad it's been able to help you on your journey :D
I have to say I just bought my very first WH40k set ever. Out of all the vids on YT bout painting and way to much bla bla youre videos stand out as the best. A perfect guide for mr to start painting my marines. By far the best m8 keep it up and Im gratefull for the help these provided!!
Thank you. This was a video I wanted to make when I started the channel because I wanted to make sure there was a video that could show people a way to try out he hobby. I’m glad I made it and it was definitely worth the time effort and I’m glad I’ve been able to help you as well 😃 make sure to take your time and just enjoy learning something new and the excitement.
Love this channel. This is a fantastic guide for beginners. My only comment is you definitely do not need to wash plastic minis at all (there is no release agent on the plastic). Never done it during my many many many years in this hobby and never had a problem. Resin miniatures on the other hand MUST be washed before priming.
I glad you like the content ☺️ I just recommend it in this video because I don’t use a spray undercoat and a clean model is better to brush undercoat onto. I didn’t know release agent wasn’t used in plastics 🤔 you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the heads up 👍🏻
At 37 I'm thinking of starting the hobby. It was something as a child I was always interested in but never started. This video has taken alot of painting questions I've researched and made it so simple. 👍
This was my aim for the tutorial. It was important for me to create a tutorial that is actually helpful and something people can use. I’m glad it’s been helpful for yah
I’m just getting into 40k and got the Recruit Edition. I wanted to say I really appreciate your high quality content and encouraging attitude. I feel more ready to take on the challenge. You’ve definitely earned a subscriber.
The pause and smile after every narrative is legendary. On a serious note, thanks for preparing me for my journey back into miniature painting. I have everything in my shopping basket ready to go. Yes, I have chosen Ultramarines! Former Necromunda player in 1995!
welcome back to the hobby. I do have a more updated version of this for 10th edition if you havn't seen it already. Ultramaraines are great, i now have a force of them myself and they lok so good on the tabletop. Necromunda is a game I'm looking forward to getting into later this year :D
I'll be painting my first mini in a couple of days. This video has made me a bit more confident about the process of painting. I saw a bunch of videos that yeah where helpful but yours just had this feel to it. Ill update when its done.
Mate, hands down the best starter video for painting and getting into the Warhammer franchise in general. Most youtubers go off on tangents and lose it's intended audience - the newbie. You clearly know who you are addressing in this video and the benefits they will gain from your advice. You make it really straight forward and to the point, and I love that. Please keep up the good work. You put to shame many other Warhammer content creators, and that includes those that have been doing it on TH-cam for years! Cheers again 👍
Oh thank you 😊 I remember what it was like trying to learn what everything is or what people were talking about. I wanted to make sure everything was contained in one video and you could follow along easily. I really wanted a practical video rather than me just talking about it. Glad you liked it 😁
This video is very easily digestible for beginners. By far the most intimidating thing for me has been the amount of different items I need to buy before even beginning, but this makes it look a lot simpler.
Thank you for the kind words. This tutorial was made because there really wasn’t anything that showed you a simple entry level into the hobby that I would consider to someone who is serious about starting. I just made something I wish I had when I began my journey 😁
So I got into 40k a while ago but then stopped doing it due to school. I recently got back into to it however and realised the space marines I had painted looked really bad. I’d decided I wanted to make them look better so I have repainted them using your advice and they look so much better thankyou so much.
Definitely could have used this video when I first started painting a few years ago aha Anyway, great video. Very clear and informative, and I imagine any new painters that watch this will find it very helpful 👍
thank you Mr TableTopReady! I painted my first miniatures with this guide. I would also like to give a small advice to anyone who just began painting, if you dont have a lamp with a magnfying glass use your phone take a photo with flash so you see where you missed some spots or you "messed up".
Just used this to paint my first miniature. Turned out a little different (assuming I need to work on thinning + I used a black primer so colors are more darker) and I’m proud with how gritty and badass it turned out. Many thanks for being straightforward!
thats awesome. the only thing that matters is wether you like it or not. I'm just here to show you the way. good work, keep going and you'll only get better
Awsome I’m really happy my video has helped 😁 it’s important to help people new to the hobby understand what everybody is talking about 😛 so this was a really important tutorial for me
Excellent video and I think I’m definitely ready to paint my first miniatures. Can I ask why you didn’t use a coat of primer and just went straight for base colour?
Brilliant. I hope you do get the opportunity to get started. I don’t include priming because I wanted it to be a simple way to get into The hobby and try it out. Priming just adds cost and makes it more complicated when just painting straight onto the plastic is good enough for your first time painting
I've had a set for a couple of years I have been too intimidated to open. Your tutorial makes me want to do it and I will the next couple days. So thank you for doing this.
we've all got to start some where. your only expectation shoul be to have fun. be okay with not being very good to start with. take your time and enjoy the process :)
Awesome tutorial. Going to try my hand at painting Intercessors. I sped paint Cadians just to get them on the table, but I want to take my time with the intecessors. Only annoying thing is how many paints you need to paint the whole model including highlights, but I'm going to stick to just painting all the main stuff + shading and then see how it looks. Is highlighting needed at all? It seems optional.
Your plan to do everything except highlighting is a good idea. Highlighting isn’t necessary but you can see the difference. You just have to find your rhythm. You can just do a single highlight with Calgar blue for ultramarines as well.
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam finished all my 10 necronwarriors and 1 necron royalwarden. im really happy with the results! but the space marines :D ... holy moly they are way harder to paint compare to necrons. alot more details, shadows, highlighting etc. finished 1 marine so far. he looks also great. 5 more to go :D !
brilliant :D you should give it another go. its changed a lot in all those years haha and its a lot more accessible and easier to achieve great looking miniatures now with all the paints they do
This was actually the first set I've painted, a good friend got it for me and gotta say the experience was awesome! If you're trying to get into this hobby, this is for sure a good first step.
I just started warhammer hobby and spend a lot of money for different paint's, washes and even bought airbrush right away. Was getting rly frustrated after watched so many guides and painting mechanics and still my miniatures looks rly horribly. Was hoping that painting minis would help me get thought rough time in my life, but it was creating more problems and I was giving up. But thx to your RLY simple and great videos, I'm back on tabletop painting more and more minis and they already looks so much better. Thx TH-cam for once recommending great youtuber, you are my savior :)
I’m glad you’ve eventually found your way into the hobby. This is why I make these videos. I really want to help people enjoy painting and achieve some great results 😃 I really hope you get a lot of enjoyment from the hobby, I know I have. Good luck and I’ll Do my best to keep providing videos and tutorials for yah 💪🏻
Brilliant tutorial. I'm literally a few days in and most videos I watch I get that feeling like I've turned up to a party late and everyone knows each other lol. This answered all of my questions.
I'm glad. I wanted a very appraochable video that hopefully answered alot of questions I thought people may have. we can't expect people to know anything after all. Thank you :D
I've painted a few models but I'm still a total beginner, this video has been immensely helpful to me. Thank you good sir! Now off to paint more Blood Angels!
Been considering give the hobby a try and as other have said this has been one of the best beginner videos I’ve found. Not only the paint techniques but all the product advice at the beginning. Thanks.
Thank you. It means a lot knowing people like the content I create. It’s super important to help people get started, that’s why I wanted to make this video 😃
your very welcome. I hope you've also checked my updated version of this that was released recently. :D welcome to the hobby and good luck. remember to have fun and enjoy it
Man am I grateful for your cool and calm demeanor! You taught me how to paint and also how to be patient with the paint itself! I was literally terrified to mess my first mini up but you talked me through it! And honestly I can’t believe how awesome my little dude came out! Keep it up bro
wicked, I love making these tutorials because I know that anyone can paint, its just a knowledge gap. great job in painting your miniatures, I hope you continue and you can only get better :)
Thanks for doing this with tools a beginner would buy to get into this. It makes a difference showing more basics with limited tools rather than using hundreds of dollars in paints, brushes and equipment. Thanks very much and the miniatures look great.
this is easily one of the best getting started videos I've found, easy to follow, good product reccomendations with reasonable investment, and great "heres what to do if it goes wrong" type tips make this a standout video in a sea of "how to paint minis" videos
Thank you very much for this comment, I'm really glad you think so. I really wanted to make sure this tutorial made it as easy as possible with as much info as I thought someone who has never picked up a brush before would need.
There are LOTS of videos put up by some very talented artists but this is definitely the best one that truly is aimed at the beginner. I bought the recommended magazine and paint/tool set which is a great idea, again for beginners like me. The steps shown in the vid are well explained and the techniques clearly shown. I thoroughly recommend this video.
I remember what it was like starting out. I just thought about all the basic info that could have really helped straight away. I had to learn all of this the hard way over 20 years haha I’m glad I’m able to give others a better start to painting that I had. 😁
I love "Getting Started" books with miniatures and have never missed a single one. Even if there is no time (and money, unfortunately) for a big Warhammer, this is something I will always want and support.
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam All these books are very good, I can show them to those who are unfamiliar with Warhammer. They are not knocked out by a 500x paged Rulebooks. In general, worth their money.
Just got this exact set and paints its my first attempt ever on miniatures, just finished painting up my marines, they came up really awesome far better than I expected but I also looked up lots of painting tutorials like this on TH-cam. spent so many hours on every single one but was so rewarding, think I've found a new hobby haha
Thats great. its such a great hobby and so many ways to enjoy it. I'm really glad you've exceeded your expectations :) with more practice you can only get better.
I've had unbuilt miniatures for longer than I care to admit. Zero confidence. I got a voucher from GW and was wondering the best way to start. This video looks like the perfect place. Grabbed the 40k Paint & Tools set, thanks for the nudge in the right direction. Very approachable instructions.
amazing, starting any kind of new hobby or project can be really daunting and you can't help but have those expectations to want to do it to the best of our ability. We need to remember it takes time and practice to become good at something, just enjoy the process and journey. I'm glad I've been able to give you that little nudge in the right direction though. Don't worry to much about getting it right straight away. you have to train and learn, just using a brush for the first time can be weird haha
Definitely the best starter tutorial I've seen! I've been watching all the videos I can to start my collection and this is the one I keep coming back to.
I just bought my first set after more than 20 years. My miniatures looks horrific back then, but after watching this videos I at least have some hope, that I might be able to do it better this time. This is the first video on painting I watched, that actually told me why I should be doing this a certain way.
Things have changed a lot in 20 years ha things have gone kind of easier with the range and quality of hobby products available now. I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful and I'm sure you'll achieve some great looking miniatures this time :D good luck
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam By now I painted 8 miniatures in following order: 2 Marines, 2 Nekrons, 2 Orks, 2 Marines. The Orks were too detailed for me and they look bad, the first marines were ok and I liked the Nekrons. Today I painted the 2nd pair of marines and I really like them, they make the 1st 2 look bad :) The learning curve is real.
I'm very new to the hobby but one thing I've done with my models is when doing the bases, I paint them brown and add some shade, followed by a healthy dousing of elmers glue. I then scoop up a cup of gravel or dirt from outside and dip the base in it and twist it around. I shake off the all the excess crud and take a crummy brush and apply a thin coat of earth shade again. It makes quite a mess in my box where I store the models and probably isn't permanent but it looks awesome.
Absolutely incredible beginners video. My girlfriend bought me the Command Edition box set for my birthday last year, but I’ve been too anxious to paint any miniatures because I thought I’d mess them all up. This video is a godsend and has finally given me the confidence to begin. Thank you!
Fantastic 😃 I’m really glad I can help get you painting. Try not to put so much pressure on yourself and remember we all Start somewhere. Enjoy the process
I'm so excited to gift this to my bf next weekend, I just bought everything in this video needed :) he's always wanted to start collecting and painting up warhammer miniatures but never did and now he can :)
Brilliant. I’m so happy I could help you decide what to get your boyfriend. Wish them happy birthday for me as well 😃. Make sure he understands there is no rush when painting the miniatures. Tell him to take his time and just enjoy the process. I painted the models in this video over a few sittings. Good luck 😊
I've been a 40k lore and video game die hard fan for probably 12 years and as of an hour ago I decided to finally order a paintset and ultramine miniatures for the first time. Pretty excited.
I decided to go for recess shading rather than the full shading because momma didn't raise no coward. No matter how good of a point on my brush I got or how careful I was I kept getting the paint everywhere and messing my model up. Well turns out I was trying to paint recesses with Abbadon Black rather than Earthshade and I would have never figured out my mistake if it hadn't been for your video; you have my eternal gratitude.
Thank you. I wanted to show people that you can try the hobby out relatively cost effectively before going in and spending a fortune on things you don’t necessarily need to straight away.
Just going to star painting miniatures and just brought everything recommended here. Can’t wait to receive it to start this new hobby. Thanks for this amazing tutorial.
That’s amazing. It really means a lot knowing how much my tutorials help people. I never thought they would have such an impact. I’m really glad you finally got your confidence 😁 just know that making mistakes and not being great straight away is all part of the process. Good luck 💪🏻
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam thank you so much I’ve been diving into all of your vids of the last couple days. I do have one question! I notice you didn’t use primer on this miniatures for this beginner vid. Do you think that’s okay to go without or is it worth me picking up a spray can of some grey primer? Thanks so much again!
If you know that your 100 in doing this hobby then getting a primer would be a good idea. If your just trying it out then it’s not really necessary. It’s a big task in its self to do.
You made want to get back into painting warhammer miniatures again. The last time I did this I was a teenager now I'm in my 40's and a bit rusty. Great videos.
Just want to say thanks. Just finished all my Necrons. Thanks to you I’m really happy with how they turned out. Never thought this was something I could do!
Absolutely fantastic video mate. Im a complete noob to Warhammer painting and after a trip to Warhammer World last weekend, I now want to get into it, but had no idea where to start. This video was super helpful! Thanks again! 👍
Warhammer world is amazing. I love it and I’m not surprised you want to get into the hobby now ha I’m glad I can help you get started. I hope you get a lot out of the hobby. I love it 😁
When i was at my local GW shop and painted my first Space Marine they told me to drybrush the base onto the figure, (dropping the whole basecoat process, (for drybrushing)). And to my suprise it gave a real nice shade effect that looked natural and grim, while still leaving a good strong blue color.
Amazing. Good luck and welcome to the hobby. Make sure to take your time, no need to rush and don’t expect a lot from yourself first time. Just get the feel for it
Got into WarHammer 40K about a month ago and finally picked up the beginner set. This video was super helpful in getting started and I look forward to starting my own Ork and Necron armies. Thank you!
currently working on the necron 3 pack with paints, my first minis, this video is helping me so much, been going back and forth through this video making sure to get steps correct (paint mixing and diluting, dry brushing ect.) i was scared to get started, but am loving that they are looking like the necron in your video as i follow along, so freaking helpful, thank you for what you do!
That’s great 😃 I always make sure that people are able to produce the same results as me. I’m happy you’re enjoying painting because that’s what’s most important. Keep it up 💪🏻 I believe in you
Just want to say thank you for this, I've followed what you suggested and it actually went really well considering it was my first time trying to do anything like this. Really good and clear advice and really easy to keep coming back to as I painted mine over a week. Great video!!!
That's absolutely brilliant, great job. I'm really glad I was able to help you get started with painting. The most important thing with miniature painting is to go at your own pace and you enjoy it in the way you want to. I know what it was like starting out and what I would have loved to have been told. I really want to make some tutorials that follow on from this tutorial so watch out for that :D
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam I'd really love to see that and I've enjoyed watching a lot of you're other videos as well, it's safe to say I've gained a new hobby!
Well I’m working on another video to help people get started with 40k and should be done end of year hopefully 😃 maybe that will convince yah haha the hobby is so much more accessible that it has ever been
Amazing beginner tutorial, really does help make the process seem a lot less daunting. This helped me make the leap into the hobby after putting it off for such a long time. Keep up the great content.
That’s why I wanted to make this tutorial. I wanted everything to be contained in one video and easily gotten. No point in complicating things or showing off.
After a good 20 years away for warhammer, I decided to buy a space marines starter kit with the paint kit in this video as well, your video is great to follow, very easy to follow and clear instructions
Brilliant, I'm so glad you decided to give it a go. It's a very rewarding hobby. I really hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it and I'm glad I've been able to help you on your journey :D
This is exactly what I needed, been on the fence for a while feeling a little intimidated by the whole thing. I’m ordering all this tonight. Can’t wait to give it another go
I've been out of the game for many years now (started mid 90s on Man O War - just to show my age) and have been thinking about getting back into gaming with 10th edition just round the corner. This video has been an inspiration! Great content, mate.
I picked up the age of Sigmar starter set today and needed a quick tutorial to get started. This video was all I needed. Very informative and easy to follow. Thank you
This is exactly what I’m looking for! Never painted in my life but was planning on buying this set. I’ve just brought it fingers crossed mine turns out good lol
honestly, don't worry too much about how it turns out, especially if you have never painted before. Use the 2 miniatures to explore the different techniques and have fun with it. This tutorial was made to give you a good general idea about the process and ideas behind why things are done the way they are. hopefully once you've finished you'll feel more confident to have a real go at painting something you actually want to collect and paint. When you are ready to paint something for a collection find some more tutorials on what you want to paint because at least you'll know what they're talking about after following along with this tutorial :D good luck and take your time, there's no rush, just get use to painting and the more you do the better you'll get at it, we all start somewhere
Oh man best noob tutorial I've seen so far, I bought the Assault Intercessors + paint set and started painting the first mini, now when I finish and move to the second one I'll definitely going to use your technique for highlights and shades and surely come back to the first one to add those details too thank you man, subscribed and liked awesome job
You also used colours not in the set. Thanks. Already spent lots of money on these boxes and now I need to go back and buy more paints.
@@kratos.8151 I have all the paints used in this video in the Paints+Tools set. Maybe you bought the new version of it which is meant to be used with the 10th edition starter set.
I've probably watched 40-50 hours of miniature painting videos. This by far the best absolute beginner video I've found. Thanks!
That’s a huge compliment. I remember what it was like to start out and all the things I wish I knew. Just having a good over all idea of painting helps get you on the right track 😄
Literally over 30 diferent guide videos on how to start on 40k minature painting, and this video is by far the best of all

I absolutely agree with OP.
Just totally agree. Best beginner Video so far.

I’ve been thinking about getting back into painting miniatures, after a break of 20+ years! This video has convinced me that I need to do it.
Haha don’t blame me 😂 that’s good to hear. Don’t know what other hobby is as engaging as warhammer. So much to be involved in
The miniatures have gotten tons better but 40k is still a giant imbalanced mess and it has only gotten worse over the years.
This is next level painting. You literally used the box for it in ways I couldn’t think of
Brilliant. It’s great your finally getting a start into the hobby. Remover to take your time and enjoy it. Good luck 😁
I am 20 years into 40k (and used to WFB) and I still love vids like this, thank you!
I'm really glad. I love this hobby. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do :) just remember to have fun and take your time. enjoy the process
Great vid!
that's great, I love hearing about people getting into the hobby. just take your time with everything, there is no reason to rush. it's important to spend this time getting your head around everything because I know how overwhelming it can be
I very, very rarely comment on TH-cam videos, but my first Space Marine is sat in my cupboard after going through all this. Thank you!
Brilliant. The thing I would ask is, why is it in a cupboard and not out for everyone to see 😃 good job 👍🏻
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam It's a glass-door cupboard >_>
Such a great beginner's tutorial! I love that you are using only the paints from that warhammer starting kit. Thanks a lot for sharing!
I’m really glad you like the tutorial. I’ve always liked the follow along type video using what you get in basic sets. No need to make it complicated
Dude I watched this video a year ago when I first started Warhammer😁 it really helped me with starting and trying it out! Thanks👍
Wicked 😃 I hope your enjoying the hobby and managed to get started with it
I’m just getting into 40k and got the Recruit Edition. I wanted to say I really appreciate your high quality content and encouraging attitude. I feel more ready to take on the challenge. You’ve definitely earned a subscriber.
I'm glad I could I could :D my next 2 videos will help get those ultramarines and Necrons painted if you can wait a bit longer to paint them
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam Thanks for the reply! That’s great, I’ll wait as long as I can haha
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam I have watched both tutorials. Yours are the most thorough and enjoyable to watch. Great content my guy, keep up the good work.
I'll be painting my first mini in a couple of days. This video has made me a bit more confident about the process of painting. I saw a bunch of videos that yeah where helpful but yours just had this feel to it. Ill update when its done.
Awsome I really hope you enjoy painting your first miniatures 😃
My 11 year old son just got his first set - it’s been 25 years since I painted any! Top tutorial.
That’s great. The hobby has changed a lot in 25 years. I hope you both get a lot of enjoyment out of it 😃
Very informative video, thank you very much! With your information, I'm ready to try out this hobby again (since years)! Many greetings from Belgium!
Greetings. This hobby has never been more open and accessible to new hobbyists than it is now. Give it a go 😁 just take it slowly and have fun
So I got into 40k a while ago but then stopped doing it due to school. I recently got back into to it however and realised the space marines I had painted looked really bad. I’d decided I wanted to make them look better so I have repainted them using your advice and they look so much better thankyou so much.
That’s amazing, well done 👍🏻 I’m glad I could help 😃
Definitely could have used this video when I first started painting a few years ago aha
Anyway, great video. Very clear and informative, and I imagine any new painters that watch this will find it very helpful 👍
This was an important tutorial for me to make. there needs to be more tutorials helping new hobbyists
Old geezer here, since the days of Rogue Trader, getting back into the hobby and this video really stands out, thank you! Subscribed!
That’s amazing. Welcome back 😃 I’m glad I could help
Keep up the good work. Nice channel and fantastic guides. Also, thanks for the tips ans guides on ork skins. Love it!
Thank you very much. I’m really glad your enjoying the tutorials. Look forward to plenty more Ork content soon 😃
thank you Mr TableTopReady! I painted my first miniatures with this guide. I would also like to give a small advice to anyone who just began painting, if you dont have a lamp with a magnfying glass use your phone take a photo with flash so you see where you missed some spots or you "messed up".
That’s awsome. I’m glad i
Could was able to help you get started. Using your camera is a great idea, I’ve not heard that before. 👌🏻
Holy moly, love you already, as a total noob, love the way you explain from scratch! Bless you mate!
I don’t include priming because I wanted it to be a simple way to get into
The hobby and try it out.
You can just do a single highlight with Calgar blue for ultramarines as well.
by far the best warhammer channel (for beginners) :D ... keep up the good work!
thank you, I'll do my best :D
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam finished all my 10 necronwarriors and 1 necron royalwarden. im really happy with the results!
but the space marines :D ... holy moly they are way harder to paint compare to necrons.
alot more details, shadows, highlighting etc. finished 1 marine so far. he looks also great. 5 more to go :D !
I used to paint these when I was around 10-14. I’m now 34 and I’m going to give it another go. Thanks for the tips
brilliant :D you should give it another go. its changed a lot in all those years haha and its a lot more accessible and easier to achieve great looking miniatures now with all the paints they do
This was actually the first set I've painted, a good friend got it for me and gotta say the experience was awesome!
If you're trying to get into this hobby, this is for sure a good first step.
welcome to the hobby. I do have a more recent updated version of this for 10th edition but it covers alot of the same stuff :)
Dude I appreciate the fact that you rook the time to put the actual color names for the paint you used instead of saying generic names for the colors.
Thank you. I like to make things as clear as possible for everyone 🙂

This is a wonderful tutorial. It uses the minimum purchases and uses stuff you already have. Reusing the box materials was a genius idea!
thank you, I wanted to get the most out of the minimal. especially if your just trying it out.

Just found this video and it's the final nudge I needed to get back into the hobby after 20 years away. Great beginners tutorial 👍
Awsome, welcome back. It’s definitely a lot different these days with more choices ha glad I could help
I have watched so many videos on painting your first miniatures but this is by far the best one. Thank you so much!
Thank you. I appreciate he comment. I’m glad you liked the video and welcome to the hobby 😃
I’m glad I’ve helped. I’ve always just wanted to make content I wish I had when starting out
Love the focus on reusing things you already have. Great video sir
Thank you. I wanted to make sure you get the most out of everything you get with out having to buy tons of stuff
this is easily one of the best getting started videos I've found, easy to follow, good product reccomendations with reasonable investment, and great "heres what to do if it goes wrong" type tips make this a standout video in a sea of "how to paint minis" videos
I agree. The magazine I show in the video is a a fantastic example
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam All these books are very good, I can show them to those who are unfamiliar with Warhammer. They are not knocked out by a 500x paged Rulebooks. In general, worth their money.
I love this tutorial. It's perfect for beginners. A lot better than many others tutorials I've seen.
Thank you very much. It means a lot knowing people appreciate my videos as much as they do 😃
Just got this exact set and paints its my first attempt ever on miniatures, just finished painting up my marines, they came up really awesome far better than I expected but I also looked up lots of painting tutorials like this on TH-cam. spent so many hours on every single one but was so rewarding, think I've found a new hobby haha
Fantastic tutorial, I painted miniatures as a child and I'm introducing my son, we enjoyed watching your video together, thanks so much 😁
Thank you for letting me know. I really appreciate that. I really hope you both get a lot of enjoyment from the hobby and I’m really glad I can help 😊
Definitely the best starter tutorial I've seen! I've been watching all the videos I can to start my collection and this is the one I keep coming back to.
Thank you for this great comment. I’m glad your finding it useful 😃
Today I painted the 2nd pair of marines and I really like them, they make the 1st 2 look bad :)
The learning curve is real.
After pouring through tutorial after tutorial I can say this is the best tutorial . Great job

Best guide ive found to kick me off painting again after a long break of about 26 years, many thanks.
brilliant, Glad you found your way back to the hobby :D
I decided to go for recess shading rather than the full shading because momma didn't raise no
coward.
Awsome. Well done for giving the recess shading a go. Glad I could shed some light on some things. 😃
What a superb video. Great to show people how to start woth just one set and not 100 different paints!

When i was at my local GW shop and painted my first Space Marine they told me to drybrush the base onto the figure, (dropping the whole basecoat process, (for drybrushing)). And to my suprise it gave a real nice shade effect that looked natural and grim, while still leaving a good strong blue color.

Just bought my first ever starter set and this is the first video I watched, super informative!
It makes it all worth it when I know my tutorials are helping people get into the hobby 😃 good luck and enjoy the process
Can’t wait to give it another go
welcome to the hobby and I hope you enjoy it. remember to take your time and have fun
I've been out of the game for many years now (started mid 90s on Man O War - just to show my age) and have been thinking about getting back into gaming with 10th edition just round the corner. This video has been an inspiration! Great content, mate.
Thank you. Welcome back to the hobby. I started around 99. I’ll have lots of new beginner content for the new edition when it’s released 😁
I picked up the age of Sigmar starter set today and needed a quick tutorial to get started. This video was all I needed. Very informative and easy to follow. Thank you
Awesome. I’m a huge fan of age of Sigmar 😁 I really want to do content for that as well. Good luck and welcome to the hobby
I'm poised to get into the Hobby and this is a massive help. I'm moist like a 20 second old paint layer.
Haha let’s go. Good luck and remember to take your time though.
Oh man best noob tutorial I've seen so far, I bought the Assault Intercessors + paint set and started painting the first mini, now when I finish and move to the second one I'll definitely going to use your technique for highlights and shades and surely come back to the first one to add those details too thank you man, subscribed and liked awesome job
awesome, welcome to the channel :D I'm glad my tutorial has helped.
