I own a scat pack, and I discovered putting it in manual, you'll spin a bit in first gear but when you shift in to second gear it almost instantly gets grip and then boom you're gone.
That’s what I love about Mustangs. Smaller engines than Brand X, but usually more efficient and the go to for a street racer, since the Fox body days...
Another reason that the Scat Pack had a harder time putting power down is that extra 500 lbs, give or take, that it weighs over the Mustang. It requires more frictional force (traction) to get the car moving forward because the friction has to overcome the extra weight, AND it has a slightly worse front to rear weight distribution than the Mustang, hurting it even further. As an aside, if you look at the torque at the wheels of the Mustang in 1st gear with the A10,, it's very high because of the overall gear ratios, so the torque is there: 420 ft-lbs x 4.7 x 3.55 (for PP1) = 7008 ft-lbs delivered to the rear axles. The Scat pack is: 475 ft-lbs x 4.71 x 3.09 = 6,913 ft-lbs. The difference is the Scat pack is making that torque lower in engine speed, thus, slower car speed, thus, also harder to put down.
Stop turning off the traction control. It makes the car SLOWER when you turn it off... The tires spin and you have to ease up to keep the car going straight, and you aren't as fast or as good at that as the computer... Almost none of us are. I am convinced its an ego thing... People think that these rider aids slow you down, when in reality they make the car faster and safer...
I think you make a good point in ref to how each car makes it's power differently. The Mustang with it's DOHC VVT 4 valve per cylinder engine has to rev way up to realize it's potential. The 10 speed auto definitely helps. I could here the Coyote engine shifting multie times keeping the revs up high with minimal lag.
It's RPM they have the exact same planetaries in the trans and trans gear ratios...bet the mustang is 3.55 and not the 3.15s my mustang was it was horrifically slow on the hit stock..
Even though you had trouble putting the power down with all that torque in cold conditions, the scatpack looks like it is more controllable. The mustang looked like it was a handful.
Came on to the video out of curiosity since my GF has a 2017 stickshift 5.0 and I’ve got a 2021 Charger RT. Sucks to have the slower car in the relationship, but I’m at ease knowing that I can save my money since the Scatpack won’t boost my ego (was going to trade in the RT). Thanks for the video. Well done as always.
Like how we are comparing a scatpack to a GT. R/T vs a GT is the closer comparison. I'm a fan of both cars, so there's not really any bias towards any Brand. Just a better comparison
@@xqcpog7597 apparently you can't see the big picture. Weight, horsepower, and torque are only part of the equation. Price is another . Cost to upgrade etc etc.. This was a fun video. It's so funny that you have that intro about hey look this is what's going on here and people claiming/show rediculously low results but you have experience and know what you are doing and still are getting close to 5sec on the street. For a year I've been trying to get my tuned 19" VR30 Q50 into the 3.9 category and it's been a big struggle even though every one else tuned VR30 3.0t seems to find it so easy. I started out at 4.7-4.9 0-60 on the street but with a new tuner and better rear 275 tires I got down to 4.2 sec on the everyday street. I've had a few cars performance over the last 10 years where my car's performance never quite matches up to the internet's crowd's hype/numbers. Just funny how that works out. Sometimes leads me to think Dallas streets and or climate is cursed.
I use a track trans street diff combo set up and it works well for me with my 2019 charger scat. On the stock smaller tires I’ve hit the magic 4.3 0-6 probably was on an 18 of a tank at the time, on the on ramp to the parkway. I pressed, prayed and held on. I’ve never seen a challenger, charger head to head. I wonder. Love your videos. Thanks.
Really like the real world approach to this, most people aren't thinking about racing while just casually driving around then another fast car pulls up and all of a sudden they want to race
I daily a 05 gt. My car isn’t fast by no means of today’s standards.but still ppl try to race me from time to time.knowing damn well they gonna win.or they’ll hover next to me while I’m just cruising .
Love both cars, but these 6.4 cars are badass. The mustang gt has to really rev to feel strong, while the 6.4 is a brute. I don't even car if the gt is faster to 60 or in the 1/4. The 6.4 is just more fun.
Cold tires are the biggest factor as to the reason why the 0-60's are so low. Especially with summer tires in sub 50-60 degree weather. I was able to achieve 4.56 0-60 in the stang (similar set up to the one tested) with Michelin AS3+ all seasons. (Kansas, 61 degrees ambient)
@@huntn0073 I have a scatpack, and I’m telling you... stock for stock.. mustang in the end always wins.. especially because they have some NASTY top end.
On a cold day accurate 0-60 tests are almost impossible. If both cars had drag radials on a prepped surface like a dragstrip, the Scat Pack would win that test. I own a Procharged Mustang V6 and I generally get either car off the line because I can get traction. My car has very little torque at low RPM, 4.10 gears, and a higher stall torque converter. My 0-60 is 4 seconds giver or take about a tenth depending on the weather on drag radials. On the street with summer tires, I can get anywhere from a 4.5-5.2 seconds depending on the weather. If the temperature is in the low 50s or less, I don't even bother to try. As soon as the supercharger kicks in I lose traction. I've raced quite a few GTs and Scat Packs. The Scat Pack is quicker than the Mustang up to the eighth mile. However, the Mustang comes on strong after that. The Mustang has the advantage of being able to rev higher mainly because it has variable valve timing that controls the intake and exhaust valves independently. You can't do that with a pushrod engine that has a single camshaft like the Hemi. The 392 offsets that advantage with more displacement than the 5.0 Coyote. It's pretty much a driver's race in the quarter mile. In a roll race, the Mustang has the advantage.
@@johndoe-ei5cm that's true. the automatics with the performance package will give you 3.55 but with a manual you can choose anywhere between I believe a 3.15 to a 3.73 and a 3.73 makes a big difference
Great comparison! Best 0-60 in my Widebody Scat is 4.2 bone stock. I think the tires make all the difference. The Widebody's hook up pretty well even on the stock tires.
The Nexen Drag Radials that come standard on my 1320 really do a good job on the street. I had a 6speed Shaker Scat before the 1320 and traction with the Goodyear 245's was a complete joke. But the Nexens handle the power WAY better. Perhaps you should get some for Mrs X's Scat. I find them to be a great street tire. I haven't been to a prepped drag strip with my car, but I am more than happy with the way the 1320 handles and launches on the street. The car is completely stock with a hellcat airbox and tube and K&N drop in filter. Also I feel the Demon's adaptive suspension in the 1320 really helps it launch. Great video. Thanks for the content. Steve
Tire compound similarities matter more than tire width, in my opinion. While both are 275mm in rear tire width, the MT were definitely a better tire offering better grip
The best 0-60 time I ever hit with my 2020 mustang GT 10 speed PP1 (per the internal accelerometer and on PS4S tires) was 4.5-4.6. The more common time for me is 4.7-4.9.
I had a 2020 scatpack charger last year 0-60 in 4.2 seconda but i hydroplaned in January with bald tires but im now getting a 2021 widebody charger in a week and a half just waiting on it to be delivered
Great comparison between what is more common cars on the street...that’s a huge weight disparity between the two! So, to be fairly close in a roll race, you probably gonna have to know where your car is making power...can you do 30 - 60, and maybe 60 - 80...in Mexico of course🤔
auto week is the only magazine, or sourse that has the scatpackq quicker than the mustang gt. i wonder what kind of driver they had. i tried it myself and also came out way ahead of the scatpack.
I run 305 on my Scat from a roll its a little better but in sport mode if I make a pass on the Highway it still chirps tires when I step on it. Love the channel X ❤
Great video. I have a 2020 widebody and on the stock 305 tires with stock tire pressure I regularly put down 4.5 or better. Shows how much tire size plays in.
My Scat Pack Challenger with 275's on a 75 degree morning has a best of 4.0 sec. I have several 4.1 and 4.2 sec 0 to 60. Now with 40 and 50 degree mornings I can barely (with mush prayer) get 4.6 to 4.7 sec. I have lots of 5.1's too. Same tire air pressure, and launch technique. These cars make serious power in cool temps.
Well I can’t say that the end result was much of a surprise to anyone lol. I trust your honesty, judgment, and experience with these performance vehicles; it just makes us that much more confident that the comparisons and reviews are fair. I will say that perhaps a 0-60 test on the street street surface just isn’t the best way to measure the two vehicles..well you did show us how unsafe it could be if the two cars were next to each other trying to race on a regular day LOL. I would love to see perhaps a 40 roll or a 60-130 with the two cars. Does the scat pack have enough hp and torque to hold off against that top end power on the coyote? Nonetheless I had a damn good laugh at this video. Very entertaining.
Thanks buddy.. much appreciated.. Yes if it had been a little warmer that might have helped. The stang is a beast on the top end. maybe a 30-100 is right measure..

My Mustang GT 1080R with 480hp (Ford Performances Cold air intake kit with 87mm throttle body and procal 4 tune) like the Bullitt never loses any traction in Sportmode +. And I have yet to lose a non prepped race except to a Porsche or a car with a big time launch control and comparable horsepower.
I get a very consistent 5.1 seconds from my 2010 Ford Flex Ecoboost. She’s heavy, but the all wheel drive helps make up for it. I’m thinking a little bit of methanol/water spray to the intake charge should get me well under 5s. Someone above mentioned cars that run under six seconds; Yes they are definitely fun to drive no matter what they are!
Trying to heat up a street tire does little to no good .. the compound it simply too hard and it does not change characteristics with heat. Also I wanted to simulate two cars essentially pulling up to stop light .. so a burnout or lowering the tire pressure would be unrealistic. I appreciate the support my friend
I banged out a 4.4 in my Challenger T/A 392 6 speed. I babied it out of the hole and didn't hammer on it until 3 grand in first gear. The outside temperature was mid 80s.
Standard Scat Packs come only with 245mm tires? The 275/305s are upgrades according to which packages you buy? That’s an awfully skinny tire. Kinda like my pops 69 GTO with those 14” red line tires. That used to sit in one place and burn out indefinitely lol
Like you said there are alot of variables that go into 0-60 times, so they don't paint the whole picture for your driving experience. I enjoy the low end torque and sound of a HEMI.
Those Michelin Pilot Sports on the Mustang are a great tire. I have the same on my Scatpack Shaker. ( 275/40-20 ) On the street, (the on board computer) manages a 4.7 zero to 60. Tire pressure at 40PSI !! 😲 I would love to see you do a comparison between the on board computer in the Scatpack with the Dragy.
Great content as always sir. This triggered an interesting thought for me. In the days of carburetors, cooler air increased performance. It has been my (anecdotal) experience that my newer vehicles are down on power in cooler air. I’m sure it has to do with air delivery, and fuel mapping, but I’ve not been able to find a reliable source to explain this. Not part of your presentation, just got me thinking. Stay safe 👍, Chuck
If you just use the drag strip mode you'll get a 4.4 just simply by flooring it, however I have the 20-in wheels and the optional rear axle ratio along with a 10-speed, I'm a pretty happy camper LOL
ive have a 2018 mustang gt, factory stock, with factory stock all season tires. I run it on the street 0-60 and get consistent 4.74 e.t.s which was disappointing to me after seeing Evan smiths runs.no traction compound, no burnouts. since I've been drag racing since I was a very young kid, I know what im doing. much of it is properly setting up the performance modes. and having a true feel for the car. don't run it much anymore, but did run a challenger scatpack and a mustang Shelby gt350 and blew the doors off of both of them. its not only how fast the car is, its reaction time, on the left of the center of the dash there's a reaction timer. (which I discovered just recently) I had 2 runs with it. I knew my reaction time was quick, but I counted believe what the display said, 00.12 and 00.11/ that alone would win many races.
Best I've got with the dragy and my scat charger is a 4.5 on the street. 30 psi, 1920 DA 305 mickey thompson street comps. Seems as though the 305 vs the 275 is the difference maker!
Thankyou sir for the comparisons. I enjoy the “real world” driving tests as this relates to someone pulling next to ya at the red light, and thinking they have a quicker car. I have personally surprised a few muscle cars when I run a 4 flat, and 12 second quarter in my Audi Quattro. I also use the dragy to verify but my difference is 0 wheel spin:)
I have a 2019 Scat Pack 1320, and in drag mode on the street with 30lbs of air (my normal pressure for daily driving) I have gotten a best of 3.6 to 60 mph on the street. Happened only once in perfect air. But I consistently get 3.9 it doesn't matter if I use trans brake or just punch and go. The trans brake doesn't seem to do much for a non prep surface. So that goes to show how much better it launches because of the standard Nexen Drag Radial 275's and the adaptive suspension from the Demon. The best time I ever got in my 2016 Shaker Scat Pack Challenger with the 6speed manual was a 4.2, but that only happened once in perfect air. Traction was too much of a factor with the standard Goodyear 245's on that car. Plus launching in a manual car was a bit trickier. Other than that, I was lucky to get 4.7 consistently. Great video. Yes. I have a 15 Rt Challenger that has a cam. I see post all day on FB with most claiming like 4.9 and as low as 4.1 with stock tires and set up. I just don't buy that. I have had several RTs now. Yo Mr. X, another great video! Question for you. I have a 2020 Charger Scat Pack and love it but as you know it comes with 245s all around. Do you know if the non-widebody can accommodate 305s? The wide widebody with the 9.5in wheels can likely accommodate but wondering if my scat with the 9in could?
295 is the max unless you get 11" wheels. You can fit 305 but you run into different issues which in terms costs more than getting 2 wheels for the back. 11" wheels with 315 tires or 10.5 with 305
You’d have to get new rims that’ll fit the 305’s, I don’t know much but I know us non-wide body SP’s can only go up to 275’s and maybe 295, ill keep mine on 275’s until I’m ready to trade for a HC widebody

At least it was a fair unbiased review I own a Mustang and watch your channel
Both are awesome cars! That 5.0 really makes a ton of power all things considered.
Even though you had trouble putting the power down with all that torque in cold conditions, the scatpack looks like it is more controllable. The mustang looked like it was a handful.
It looked more like a road problem to me
It looked more controllable because it was going slower 😂
Came on to the video out of curiosity since my GF has a 2017 stickshift 5.0 and I’ve got a 2021 Charger RT. Sucks to have the slower car in the relationship, but I’m at ease knowing that I can save my money since the Scatpack won’t boost my ego (was going to trade in the RT). Thanks for the video. Well done as always.
Watching some of your older videos. Excellent comparison video
Like how we are comparing a scatpack to a GT. R/T vs a GT is the closer comparison. I'm a fan of both cars, so there's not really any bias towards any Brand. Just a better comparison
How? A R/T is 370 horsepower but weighs more vs a GT of 460 horsepower and weighs less? Are u that stupid?
@@xqcpog7597 apparently you can't see the big picture. Weight, horsepower, and torque are only part of the equation. Price is another . Cost to upgrade etc etc.. But I'm sure you took that into the equation since your such smart guy;) Nice try. Comeback when you have something useful to argue about 😉
This was a fun video.
Thanks.
😂 the monster truck
LOL.. a little bumpy
I have a 21 Scat Pack, and I have done 5 sec flat in street mode on an asphalt driveway.
Down side off all that torque. Would love to see a roll race between these 2 cars
Mustang wins every time
@@CarlosGarcia-ry4kf there's been alot of videos that show the opposite
@@huntn0073 I have a scatpack, and I’m telling you... stock for stock.. mustang in the end always wins.. especially because they have some NASTY top end.
Yes the mustang has several miles an hour over the scatpack in the quarter mile. The Scat gets the edge in the 8th .. at least on a prepped surface
I've seen alot of scats gap 5.0s on the quarter
I think, you can test both from 60 to 120 or so, that would show us the differences without the spinning issue.... greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
I completely agree with your assessment 🤜🔥
Don’t forget mustang 3.73 gear option and all scats 3.07 gears
@@johndoe-ei5cm that's true. the automatics with the performance package will give you 3.55 but with a manual you can choose anywhere between I believe a 3.15 to a 3.73 and a 3.73 makes a big difference
@@jamesduncan8717 I’m curious how a 4.10 rear gear 10r80 would be/feel like
Great comparison! Best 0-60 in my Widebody Scat is 4.2 bone stock. I think the tires make all the difference. The Widebody's hook up pretty well even on the stock tires.
Tires but they also have a stiffer suspension
@@AsapRockyOG Yes sir the Widebody Scat Packs have the stiffest suspension of all the Challengers.
The Mustang has the power to run 4.4s and 4.5s BUT you must have thick tires that are warmed up to handle the torque
I love your videos man you give great reviews please never stop!!!!
Hey can you get ahold of a 2009 ls3 C6 ? I really wanna see what it can do against modern muscle cars
What about the wide body do you think the wider tires would help?
Curious if you've changed those tires on the Scat to 275s yet and if so, does it help with traction?
hello, i just want to say i enjoy all your videos! can i ask where you purchased your seat belt shoulder covers?
I run 305 on my Scat from a roll its a little better but in sport mode if I make a pass on the Highway it still chirps tires when I step on it. Love the channel X ❤
Great video. I have a 2020 widebody and on the stock 305 tires with stock tire pressure I regularly put down 4.5 or better. Shows how much tire size plays in.
On a 392 scat i have 275 but i might put 295 should i ? Or go 305?
Always great content. I own a 18' GT. However I love the challenger and chargers. Such nice big boy cars.
Yes it does have enough power and torque it's 300lbs heavier and it's frontal area isn't cutting thru the air like a mustang....
I am def a MOPAR guy, but I truly dig and appreciate you being as unbiased, neutral and honest as possible.
You need to be in politics!!!
Be safe brother, great content
My Mustang GT 1080R with 480hp (Ford Performances Cold air intake kit with 87mm throttle body and procal 4 tune) like the Bullitt never loses any traction in Sportmode +. And I have yet to lose a non prepped race except to a Porsche or a car with a big time launch control and comparable horsepower.
What are the best tires to get for the best traction ? Maybe on all 4 wheels ? I have 275's on my 2018 SP. Shaker .Thanks !
Can you put a link to that device in the description? I want to get one

Would it help warming up the tires via burnout for better traction? I haven't tried a 0-60 in my scatpack yet.

Yes the temperature can make a world of difference when it comes to traction..
@@RacerX9 Yep. You'd have to put 305s on for that car to get traction in the cold.
Standard Scat Packs come only with 245mm tires? The 275/305s are upgrades according to which packages you buy? That’s an awfully skinny tire. Kinda like my pops 69 GTO with those 14” red line tires. That used to sit in one place and burn out indefinitely lol
why does a 5.0 liter naturally aspirated have 460hp when a 5.7 liter NA has 375 (challenger RT)
You said nothing about the gearing in the rear differential, does the mustang have 3:31 ,3;15 or 3:73 gears, which does the challenger have
Exactly true makes a difference
Like you said there are alot of variables that go into 0-60 times, so they don't paint the whole picture for your driving experience. I enjoy the low end torque and sound of a HEMI.
Hey Racer, how do you like Shelby GT 350, considering 19 or 20 want the update?
I like those cars alot.. very fun to drive
It would be interesting to make the comparison with a Charger Scatpack, using different tires.
Those Michelin Pilot Sports on the Mustang are a great tire.
I have the same on my Scatpack Shaker. ( 275/40-20 )
On the street, (the on board computer) manages a 4.7 zero to 60.
Tire pressure at 40PSI !! 😲
I would love to see you do a comparison between the on board computer in the Scatpack with the Dragy.
Yea I hadem on my my srt jeep
Great content as always sir. This triggered an interesting thought for me. In the days of carburetors, cooler air increased performance. It has been my (anecdotal) experience that my newer vehicles are down on power in cooler air. I’m sure it has to do with air delivery, and fuel mapping, but I’ve not been able to find a reliable source to explain this. Not part of your presentation, just got me thinking. Stay safe 👍, Chuck
That’s crazy. My 2013 V6 challenger SXT runs a consistent 5.2 here in Georgia. Getting a Scat Pack this Friday!
Quit the cap 🤣🤣🤣
If you just use the drag strip mode you'll get a 4.4 just simply by flooring it, however I have the 20-in wheels and the optional rear axle ratio along with a 10-speed, I'm a pretty happy camper LOL
Why are 20s better than smaller sizes? I just bought a Mustang with 19s.
ive have a 2018 mustang gt, factory stock, with factory stock all season tires. I knew my reaction time was quick, but I counted believe what the display said, 00.12 and 00.11/ that alone would win many races.
scatpack for the W (even tho it took the L)
LOL there were no losers in this test
Need tires
Best I've got with the dragy and my scat charger is a 4.5 on the street. 30 psi, 1920 DA 305 mickey thompson street comps. Seems as though the 305 vs the 275 is the difference maker!
Great channel, honest comparison.
Love the both of these American muscle cars.

@@govols535 Detroit or Ontario still American muscle to me
Thankyou sir for the comparisons.
I think u can adjust your shift point in performance pages to get u off the line faster
So how Car and driver/Motor trend does in less than 5 seconds…? Nice video👍
Steve
I agree. I have the Charger version and mine feels like its ice skating with tracion on in ECO Mode on stock 245. These cars are truely torquey
My grandson just bought a 17 Camaro SS. Definitely another contender.
Yes. I have a 15 Rt Challenger that has a cam. I see post all day on FB with most claiming like 4.9 and as low as 4.1 with stock tires and set up. I just don't buy that. I have had several RTs now. I have never came close to those 0 to 60s. I live in Oklahoma. I know it gets humid, but stock or set up, without traction I can't get below 4.9 with my cammed Challenger. My stock I have got 5.4 with stock tires and everything.
Bruh same
Im making 404 hp to the wheels and my best is 5.1 0-60
@@FelipeGarcia-ct8qq My first pull was 405hp to the wheel. Mine has been between 4.9 and 5.1 with the same all season tires and my current 3.07 differential.

Love the video, without actually racing the two cars. I am definitely old school.Back in the late sixties early seventies, that’s what it was all about. Pulling up at a red light and best driver, car combination win. And thinking back just running street tires,it was a lot slicker at the drag strip, than it was on the street.
I wish I could of experienced that era .now everyone wants a automatic because it’s “faster”.
@@kwilliams3161 it was a lot of fun. Cruising Main Street, picking a race and head out of town. I know it’s been basically 50 years, but times have really changed. @RacerX what camera is this?
Noticed, on every drag race the challenger looks like it will stall at the line on take off. Is that from wheel spin?
The Scatpack numbers are way off. I just traded my Shaker in for a 2020 Scat Pack with the F1 Goodyear Stock tire. I pulled under 5 with the stock tires while in track mode
I think you said you put MrsX front tires on the rear?, Mickey Thompson Street/Comp, there's your spinning problem, those tires won't hook!

yes temp and road conditions make a huge difference
Great video. I love the mopar personally. Shaker hood is sweet.
They are an absolute blast to drive
May do better with winter tires in those temps.. Drag radials in warm temps is the only way to get good 0-60s on the street with these cars. Actually ive got 3.65 with drag radials in 45* weather on a good surface.
That’s a very respectable time 👍
@@RacerX9 Thanks, I had an e85 tune, had it in drag mode and footbrake launched at around 1800 rpm I think, no spin off the line but some minor spin/chirp on the 1-2 shift. With the 10r80 and the PP1 torsen gearing, I think we actually shift into 3rd before 60 and with drag mode my 0-60 times are better when actually shifting to 3rd at like 57 mph instead of revving 2nd gear out higher.
some burnouts to heat the tires up might've helped
Just curious, but what kind of 0-60 times do you and Mrs. X get with the Scat at the track?
I will have to look.. her perfomance pages are not reading correctly for the 60 foot for some reason. It currently says 0-60 in .2.. which is well....... quick lol

It was likely the surface and the grains in the air. If your getting 4.2 on a legit bare street that is extremely impressive in 37 degree weather. Did you reduce your tire pressures?
@@RacerX9 I live in the country so it is on plain country roads. Running 33 psi in my tires. I have no idea what the da is. I am using the 0 to 60 timer in my car not sure if it is accurate. I actually got a 3.9 this past summer on the same roads and a 12.3 in the quarter mile.

Sounds like the mustang has a lot more interior Drone, did you find that as well?
11" wheels with 315 tires or 10.5 with 305
You’d have to get new rims that’ll fit the 305’s, I don’t know much but I know us non-wide body SP’s can only go up to 275’s and maybe 295, ill keep mine on 275’s until I’m ready to trade for a HC widebody
get 295 unless you’re making 500+whp 295 is plenty
