I been running the Maperformance Stage 1 93 Octane tune for the past 6 months now and have been more than satisfied with it. Great power increase over Cobb, and pulls much stronger on the top end. After about 1 week after running it, you will feel the full benefits of it after the ECM learning phase.
Nice!! I'm glad to hear it's been running well for you! I've had it now a few days since this video was recorded and I've actually noticed it only getting better funny enough! I guess that's how the ECM does work, though! It's more responsive now then initially! I'll be doing a couple week follow up soon with further thoughts! Thx for watching bro!
Lou784 same here, man! it has been about a year with it. 91 gas in Socal. have you done any updates to your software? scared once I update it may have some weird negative with the tune?
No, I haven't run any updated revisions of the Maperformance Stage 1 93 Octane tune, I believe I'm running the 4th revision, the newest one is revision 5 I believe. I'm taking my car to do some 1/4 mile tests at my local drag strip this upcoming Saturday, so looking to put down some better times than my previous stock only runs.
Been out of the subbie game for a little while, I've done the cobb stage 2 and was pretty happy with it. I'll Deff have to check out this e-tune if I get another subbie!
cool video!! very descriptive ! I've been running the stage 1 MAP map also for the 16 wrx and for the most part it's really good. trying to go stage,2.
Nice! I dont know if its the AZ 91 gas but lately ive been getting knocks and DAM dropping all the time. Maybe the weather change too. Its been in the 90's lately.
Hey man thanks for the comment! I used to run 91 octane when I first got my AP actually, and I immediately noticed 0.875 DAM. So I quickly changed to 94 octane as it's the highest we have here (we don't have e85 anywhere) and it has always been 1.000 since!! Running very smooth!
I've been running the 93 tune and been getting some knock readings also. But my DAM is always at 1. Not sure if thats something I should be worried about.
Thanks bro! AP originally didn't take long, maybe 20 mins, or so. The re-flash changing from the Cobb tune to the MAP tune was very fast actually, and only took about 5 minutes!!
haha probably a fair time, I have left my lights on, I often park listen to music with the radio on etc. so I don't think this draws even as much power! I made sure to turn headlights off and such while it did it's flash etc. just to be safe but I think you'd be perfectly fine unless your battery is really old or something!!
NinjaxBart Will do, my 2017 is very close to the 1000 mile break in. We will see how long I can go on the stock tune. Be sure to post an update after a few thousand miles on this tune. You have a cool channel, keep up the good work!
I just got an AP and considering to get this ots map, cuz it's been 10k miles for me on my 2017 wrx and I've really been itching to get out of the crappy factory map. I may pull the trigger on this one. I'm fully stock too, and still saving up for "stage 2" parts and a protune from Ron Watson. But until then, I'm gonna try to run this ots map for a while. I hope it's worth it like alot of people are saying. Nice vid man btw. :)
Do you remember what mods you had on your car at the time? And can you run this AP without any additional mods? I see MAPerformance gives you a free E-Tune when you purchase from them now. I know this video is older so I don't expect you to remember your mods. But I have followed you for a couple years now. Great vids! And congrats on the new house!
None! Just a stock tune, so nothing required, it just changed the base tune a little to something better (safer, more smooth, and a little more power!)
Because on 91 octane DAM drops sometimes down to 0.875 which isn't good. Immediately I switched to 94 octane and it's always been 1.000 DAM since then - Running very smooth on the 94 and I think it's best to be safe!
Thanks dude ! When the money (or sponsors hah) start coming in deff wont only be aquarium vlogs Im actually a mechanic and love driving ! Thanks so much for the support & inspiration dude !!
As much praise as this tune gets, I'm disappointed with the feedback knock I experienced when cruising down the highway. I saw feedback knock for a good 10 seconds going all the way up to -10 degrees. WOT, this map was great, but I was disappointed with it's cruise characteristics. This happened with all brands of gas I have tried (shell, valero, costco, kroger, phillips, and conoco), so unless I coincidentally got bad gas every time, I don't think fuel was the issue. I still love their products, and MAP's customer service has always been top notch. I just got my J-pipe and intake shipped. Hopefully I can get that installed soon with help from a friend. I hope their stage 2 is a bit better. Currently I am running a stage 1 flex fuel setup, but even when cruising with E10 (regular 91 where I live) I see significantly reduced cruising knock with my pro-tune. Of course, that is to be expected, but I'm pretty excited to go stage 2 with flex when the time comes. I also look forward to trying MAP's stage 2!
Hey man, first off thanks very much for your comment here and sharing your thoughts. Very interesting to hear your experiences with this tune. So far about 400km's on this Tune I'm noticing, at maximum, -1.41 feedback knock thus far. WOT, and cruise. I commute everyday, too. I'm surprised to see yours was so high down to -10, that's frightening. Did you ever notice your DAM drop down as a result of that?? What revision was your MAP tune if you know?? Also, who did your pro-tune?! Must sounds nice with the J Pipe and Intake!! I'd love to go that route sometime. Do you have an Instagram I can check your Subi out at??
I'm kind of a hermit on social media, so unfortunately I don't have any pictures of my car online. I have a '16 base in silver. I eventually want to make it my ridiculous grocery-getter once I save up for it. I suspect it's the EGR. I would do an EGR delete if it didn't make emissions a headache. At WOT, knock would be at zero with DAM at 1, but after an extended cruise on the highway, it was down to 0.875 with feedback knock up to -10.0 at times. I was using the V5 Beta October version. This only happened cruising in sixth down the highway. I have the MAP intake, but went with the Agency Power J-pipe because it's the only aftermarket J-pipe that uses a proper EPA certified cat in order to pass emissions here in my state. I would have preferred to go with MAP's J-pipe, but unfortunately even the catted version would make emissions a headache here as the primary cat isn't in the stock location, and the cat itself isn't EPA certified.
To be honest, every car on the planet knocks. That's why car's have built in knock control systems from the factory :) And yes, a pro tune ultimately will run a bit cleaner, but if you are experiencing more than normal FBK, just send some logs our way so our tuner can take a look further into it!
@Ian, Thanks for the response on this dude! I agree, all cars have some knock. I see -1.41 sometimes, even on this tune so far, but I know it's normal. Very normal. As long as my DAM remains 1.000 it's good I believe! But, it's also important to consider peoples cars. If a person doesn't take good care of their car, or if they've installed something incorrectly, they might be essentially "blaming" the tune but it could totally be something on the car, their air intake, the fuel they're running, etc.
Oh absolutely, every car knocks for sure. -10.0 knock seems a bit excessive, but it could be something as simple as fuel just not being good in my area.
I'm running the MAP 93 tune right now on my '16 with just a catback. I'm occasionally getting some feedback knock readings of like 8 or higher. Doesnt usually happen during WOT, just kind of cruising. Not sure if anything to worry about. I'm thinking it might be winter gas also? Just wondering if anyone is having similar readings.
Great question, typically anything around -1.4 ~ -5 is okay at cruise and idle, if there is knock at WOT or it is higher than -5 then please give us a call and we will get you sorted out!
I actually sent Ian some logs about a week or so ago. Haven't gotten a reply yet, not sure if it ever got to him. I occasionally get a reading over 5 but not during WOT. Sounds like I should be fine from what you're saying.

I just purchased an AP and I am debating to flash Cobb stage 1 91 octane or MAPerformance stage 1 octane. Everyone on FB keep saying that the Cobb is better than the map in terms of longevity of the engine. Are you still running this map tune?
@@SpencerHogg did you experience problemS with the map tune, why would you recommend the Cobb OTS over the map tune? Seems to be getting praise everywhere
Yeah, it's all MAP stuff, catless lol (regretting that a bit), and their stage 2 tune. No where in the city to use all the power though :( but it drives super tame if staying under 60% throttle. I've done a ton more mods too.
is this e-tune or OTS tune? I thought for e-tune, you need to send some info and data to your tuner from a device and drive your car for a week or so, and he would make you one.
I believe this is a tune MAP has created themselves via tune revisions (and therefore the process of someone sending in information etc. but I believe they've used their own cars in house on the dyno) - to then create and sell this "ots e-tune" essentially. I could be wrong, though.
Not a E tune!!!! It's map ots map... you can get a real E tune for 250 to 300 dollars.whit that they will revise the map to make sure the data log is giving back the right numbers . .. this for 75 dollars is just a ots map!!!!

Hi ninjaxbart, do you notice your RPM bopping up and down during a cold start?
Mine goes up & down between 1500-1700.
Do you need any new parts to run that e tune?
This tune is just for STOCK only! So Stage 1! No performance mods!
Just order my cobb tune,, and do I have to buy map for gain performance.?
