  • Can't get a 2.4Ghz wifi device to connect? Here's the low down on 5G Home Internet and if they have 2.4Ghz WiFi. You likely need to adjust some settings to get older devices to connect to wifi with T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, Verizon 5G Home and AT&T Internet Air. Band Steering combines 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi bands under a single SSID Wifi name but you can split them up if needed. If you want more speed, consider a Waveform external antenna or a 3rd party gateway like the Chester Cheetah (links and discounts below!).Or consider getting an external antenna from Waveform (links below). Thanks Nate. I now have all my smart devices on a 2.4GHz signal on my T-Mobile Home Internet (using the Chester Cheeta Gateway from Chester Tech Repairs) and my Phones and Computers on my Verizon 5G Home Internet (5GHz). I also set up a separate Guest Network (2.4GHz with WPA2 Security) on my Verizon 5G Home Internet I use for guests and my Apple and Roku TV.

That's what I always tell people just don't bother with the built in WiFi from a providers Gateway, just spend the money to go get your own mesh WiFi setup, as you will have less issues. For example at work we have a Breezline business account with an IP phone line, and their Gateway would always be rebooting itself, or just going stupid every 10 to 30 minutes, and I got tired of it, so I went into the Arris settings turned off WiFi, got my own Mesh setup, and now my whole building at work is covered in good signal with very little downtime unless there is a real network outage.

First of all, thank you for your videos, your very smart about these things‼️
I just purchased the new T-Mobile gateway. I can't seem to connect to my Google Mini which runs a lot of appliances throughout my apartment. I only have one line where my Xfinity had two lines. I feel kind of naked without my Google Mini, can ask it questions or nothing.

I hear ya, I like my google mini's too. I suggest you look to make a separate 2.4ghz only network and have google connect to that. they tend to have trouble with wifi band steering when you have 2.4ghz and 5ghz with the same SSID.

Also 2 unify accespoint 6e enterprise version one unify express, after a massive wifi hacking by some unknown remote actions. originally the ISP gave their own modem (Speedprt pro with hybrid option from telekom). Hey nater, little bit of an off topic question from this video, but I figure you may be able to help. I currently have a tplink ax3000 mesh system paired up to my T-Mobile router. When I do a Speedtest connected to my T-Mobile router, I usually get around a 24 ping. When connected to the ax3000 mesh, it’s almost always exactly 50. I have T-Mobile at home with the Sagemcom F@st Gateway, and at work I have Breezeline cable with an Arris Gateway with an IP phone line hookup(took 2 Technicolor, & 3 Arris Gateways before we got one that worked and did not crash 50 times a day), I don't use the built in WiFi with either of them except the T-Mobile 5Ghz for quick speed testing only, as I have the 2.4ghz turned off, and on the Arris Gateway at work I have the WiFi off completely, but with both setups I have TP-Link mesh networks that allows me to make a separate guest network that's 2.4Ghz only for those oddball devices that just won't play well on a mixed 2.4Ghz/5Ghz network, and also do channel optimizations as needed in their Android app.
So yeah I don't care who the ISP is, they never seem to get modem/WiFi router combos aka Gateways to work correctly without issues of some kind, so I just ways tell people turn off the Gateway WiFi, or get your own Modem(I did when my house had Breezeline for many years), then to spend the money, and get a good Mesh networking setup with a minimum of 3 bases(I had to get 4 to cover my house, and 3 for my work) that also have network ports for hard line only devices like a desktop PC in say your home office on the other side of your house away from the T-Mobile Gateway.
