Nate, Thanks for the help. My T-Mobile was down for 3 days and have been on the phone with support for 3+ hours. Saw this video and moved it to other room and BOOM. I had a great signal in the room I was in. (5 bars). Moved it to the other room 4 bars but worked great.
Followed your videos, added Waveform 4x4 antenna, added my own router, turned off wifi using your script, added fan, haven't had a disconnection in many many months. Runs flawlessly.
Your video couldn't have comment a better time recently my internet connection was dropping and decided to call up T-Mobile who found out that there was a month-long maintenance ticket for the tower next to me that my internet connection was pinging off of so they decided to connect me to another tower. So far I haven't had any issues with dropping signal, I guess T-Mobile technical reps have the ability to assign towers to the unit.
Nate I noticed my Nest home mini loses connection and I think it's because I have 2.5gHz and 5gHz signals combined on my Chester Cheetah Gateway. Great point. Thanks again for all the excellent information!
Good video, super topic. I have the Nokia with a usb fan on top. I had issues with it dropping the 5g signal multiple times a day and night but not the 4g but would tell me no internet. I would do a hard restart by unplugging it from the power. It would respond with both signals good and connected to B2 and N71 everything working. I decided it was heat related so I removed the outside case of the unit and kept the fan on top,it has been up and running flawlessly for a month now. It is on a shelf about 7 1/2 ' high. Maybe this will help others. Thanks for what you do.
I had the Nokia and it was bouncing between B2 and B66 multiple times a day. They're at almost the same exact power levels. I switched to the Chester Cheetah and it's been much more stable. It will still switch occasionally but not nearly as often as the Nokia and it seems to recover much faster when switching bands.
Thanks for the video and all in the series. I've watched virtually all of them since the beginning. I've been on the T-M home internet for over a year using the circular tower model. I get frequent losses of signal "TCP/TLS Connection Failure". So I installed a Keep Connect unit that monitors the internet connection and when it is lost, it resets the power to the unit and that "fixes" the problem. Do you know of a solution to the error message without the power reset? I've been unable to find any help on the TM forum and other research. The TM modem is directly wired to my LINKSYS router and I don't use any of the wireless connectivity to the modem unless its through the TM app. BTW, I generally have download speeds of around 150mbps and upload of around 10 (without an external antenna) which works well for us (no gaming - just internet and streaming TV/video). We're located in the Seattle area.
Are you using a VPN? Try lowering the MTU setting on the linksys to 1428 or lower. Have you confirmed that the internet drop is on the gateway and not the linksys?
@@NaterTater There is no VPN involved. It is definitely a drop on the gateway and NOT the linksys. There's been about 160 occurrences over the past year. It takes a reset of the gateway to regain internet access. It can happen with no internet activity and just streaming TV or when there is both.
For DNS improvements, I run DNS Benchmark, then put an Edgerouter-X in front of my TMHI and DSL to allow ISP failover and it lets me define 2 DNS servers from my benchmark.
Thanks Nater Tater! I'm having the tower switch problem and its affecting WFH videoconferencing. A tower North 5 miles away and a tower WSW 2 miles away. im always jumping towers and cells every few hours. I have had some success placing it in bedroom corner on south side of 2 story house, but the wifi coverage is poor there and wont reach garage (and will also be my daughters room when older). Would the better fix be to band lock with the chester cheetah, or would you recommend trying the waveform antenna? I am getting 120/40 no matter the tower/cell. I hate having to pay for either, but im sure its cheaper than going back to a cable company. Any cheaper options i may have missed?
It's a little bit of a toss up but for your case especially since you're getting good speed indoors I personally would pick the Cheetah since the installation is just plug it into power. Alfredo at Chester Tech Repair can preconfigure it prior to shipping so its ready to go when you insert the SIM!
@@NaterTater that makes sense, appreciate the feedback! Quick update, after speaking to tmhi today, they said that since I've been using the same unit for 2.5 years they would like to send me a new one to see if there is any improvement. Let's hope!

Hey with T-Mobile announcing the carrier aggregation that could potentially give you up to 3.3 gigabits per second, do you think the 5G home internet will work with that? I still have the original Nokia trash can and I'm just wondering if that thing is even compatible with it or if I should upgrade?

I run a cat7 cable to my mesh router inside the house.

Nate Ive got a pretty old 4g setup (usb 313u w/ Tmobile sim + cradlepoint mbr95 + bolton parabolic) and/or my Tmobile home internet gateway that I need to upgrade to 5g and all I care about is latency. I have Starlink which covers my high data use needs for up/down but the latency variance is too bad for gaming... Im in Florida (flat terrain), the tower for my area is 5 miles away and Ive cleared all the trees / brush on my property in the direction of the tower for direct LOS. Was looking at placing a Waveform Mimo 4x4 Log Periodic outside and testing it with the home internet gateway first to see gains before I get the cheetah router but I figured Id pick your brain first on what setup you think would provide the best latency...
a 4x4 MIMO outside always improves my ping no matter the modem (better SINR). Your overall latency will depend also alot on your tower, if it has microwave backhaul then the latency will always be worse than a tower with fiber backhaul. The distance (5miles) to the tower also hurts. I think you have a good plan in place.
@@NaterTater Which 4x4 MIMO (Panel or Log) would be better to improve the SINR across the rest of the 5 miles ? Also the coverage maps for my location show T-Mobile as 5G ER and Verizon as 5G UW... Even if the Verizon 5G UW signal is c-band and not mmWave, wouldn't that theoretically provide me better ping than T-Mobile n71 ? Both signals come from the same tower btw... Thanks in Advance ! 😃
