Another great thing is that no more cable connection from your home to the pole. Not having to call a technician to checkout the pole when there's problems. So happy it's a wireless connection to a tower.
I have had T mobile internet for almost a year. No problems at all. I pay 30 since I signed up for cell through them. Travel quite a bit (national and international) and data/cell service has worked great with no international fees. Plus, all the perks ie. Apple TV, soon Hulu, netflix and $10 off my youtube tv bill. For me and my area, I don't think you can beat it.
Hi I guess I wasn't real clear, but, I was referring to text and data. I am on the Magenta plus and do have to pay the 25 cents for phone. I just never use phone when I'm traveling. Sorry about confusion.@@rambleon2838
@@rambleon2838 Magenta plans and Go 5G plans will charge you .25 cents per min instead of 3$. Depends also in the country others are being charged .49 cents/min. If u want unlimited calls you can purchase DATA PASS $35 for 10days with 5GB of high speed data unlimited texting too.
Gaming online dispute popular belief uses very little data. The largest data consumption portion for a gamer is going to be when they purchase a new title digitally or for updates. 4K video is the biggest data driving factor for most households however even streaming 4K can vary based on the service used and other factors. Even in the worst case scenario the typical residential household won’t be using more than approximately 600GB of data from steaming 4K content. For wireline broadband providers that do have data caps most have it set at 1.2TB so that is plenty of buffer and in most circumstances we are seeing the data caps be lifted during promotional periods by ISPs like how Comcast has been waving the cap in their latest promotional offers so long as you rent their gateway. T-Mobile home internet main selling points are the following. 1. It’s an additional option in the marketplace to consumers. 2. Is price point when compared to non promotional rate’s traditional telco companies charge. 3. Portability, by that I mean the ability to use it in places like hotels & RVS. Overall T-Mobile home internet as a service is inferior to traditional wireline options but it is good enough for basic use cases. In certain circumstances performance may be better than other options available especially in rural areas. That being said it is not something I would use as a primary option in its current form. If Verizon FWA is available it would be the better wireless option.
I moved to a rural area and have used T Mobile Home for the past 16 months. The service WAS pretty good for the first year; getting from 60-150 Mbps download. Monthly data usage is normally around 300GB. Starting in 2024 though, I noticed my evening (5-11pm) speeds were averaging less than 5 Mbps. It took almost a month of back and forth communications with customer service until they finally admitted this was normal due to network congestion. I'll be checking out other options this year.
I have a friend in St. Georges Utah that when they checked online said that they were not eligible, but when they went to a T-Mo store they got setup and it works great. So if you show as not eligible, and there is a T-Mo store nearby give it a shot. I have been using T-Mo Home Internet for about 3 years (have the original Nokia Trashcan) and am satisfied with it. Can't beat that $50 price lock.
Adding to what you said, if you use the T-Mobile site to see if home internet is available in your area enter your correct physical location where you want the service and your phone number on the form. If it kicks back that it's still not available, enter a random phone number from a nearby metropolitan area but keep the same physical location for service. (This is assuming you live in a rural location or an area that's not yet wired for any other ISP.) Our local mobile number kicked back that internet service had not become available in our area. The city number kicked back that internet service was *now* available in the area. With several phone calls to T-Mobile customer service, I was able to get unlimited home internet even though technically it's not yet available in our location.
That's not right to do that though. People who work at T Mobile have told me that they will fire employees who lie about location because the tower can only give good service to so many people. When the tower gets overcrowded the service goes down hill and then they start losing customers. I live in a rural area and we only have 1 T-M tower and there is always some idiot from about 40 miles away trying to sell internet by lying about location to get it. Might sound like a good idea to get it , but when your service starts going to 20 or less and drops out all the time you won't have anyone to blame but yourself.
I received an email from T-Mobile stating that my area was not eligible for their home internet. Two days later while in my local T-Mobile store it was offered to me and set up with no problem for $30/month. I’ve had it for almost a year and it works fine for my needs.
Good points Michael. I've had T Mobile home Internet for almost 3 years. I learned not to give up and to try a different one of their gateways when I had issues They're not all the same but go to a T Mobile store for a replacement. T Mobile reps on the phone stated they couldn't guarantee which gateway I would receive.. Also try using your own router. There are plenty of videos on this. Thanks again Michael for an indepth video on T Mobile home internet
Think about it, where are you placing your t mobile router, in the best place to have wifi throughout your house, OR by a window, possibly on the other side of the house so you can pick up 5g signal? You'd want a router centrally located. Also newer routers have many new features like automatic firmware updates, and even automatic reboots not to mention better wifi controls like changing to a less congested channel etc. You just have to plug in YOUR router into the T Mobile gateway and turn off T Mobiles wifi
@@AAtta-3286 oh I see your point. But if your T-Mobile router isn't getting good signal or the network is too congested in the are , a router is not gonna change that tho right?
@@asianstud7 My T-Mobile router and my base mesh router which is connected to the ethernet port of the T-Mobile router are in the same room. In the same room, one laptop has best internet speeds when WiFi connected to the T-Mobile router (275 down/90 up versus 46/86) and my other laptop has the best internet speeds WiFi connected to my mesh router (275/97 vs 94/40). I have no clue as to why the laptops have a router preference, maybe the frequency, maybe the wifi protocol/version?
I have the service and am generally pleased with it. (I got in under the wire for the $50 pricing, at least for now.) I do experience slowing, but it only affected usability once and not for long. Things like TV streaming normally work just fine, with only a small delay in load TH-cam TVa when first turning on the TV. Also there is a new better gateway that has, among other things, external connections for external antennas. No more having to open up the case to attach one. I will also mention that when it is good, it is very, very good. Early this morning I was getting 497 download speeds!!!!
Thanks for this informative video. Currently the cost of my fiber is 50% more than T-Mobile. My measured speed is twice or more than the speed you measured. Fiber is wired so bad weather can cause lengthy outages. But I had problems with a 4G modem and suspect I'd have problems with 5G. Also, my understanding is that 5G reception Is highly directional. Even more than 4G. I'll stick with fiber for now.
I got T-Mobile 5G home internet over a year ago in the eastern suburbs of Sacramento. It was great when I first got it but in recent months it has become worse. Often times in evenings I get 30mbps download and 1mbps upload (yes that’s one). At 4am I get the good service again. I assume that is just cell network congestion and hope that T-Mobile will add more capacity. If not I may go back to Comcast and just accept the higher cost.
My address was not on 5G list but I did get it when I tried the box. Just changed my address to my office which was 5G allowable and no problem. They use billing address not location of the box.
Price is great, but we live near the airport, it isn't very fast and we lose connection several times a day. Fiber is going in, and we are moving to it! I wish it had worked!
As an existing T-Mobile customer, I took advantage of the 5G home Gateway when it first was introduced nearly a year ago. It's much faster than the 4G tethering i was using on my Galaxy Note 9 and allows me to stream multiple channels over the net. My question is, what's the best way to extend the WiFi Range to my backyard on the opposite side of the house in which the 5G Gateway sits ? I have a GPS guided Autonomous Lawn Mower that isn't dependent on WiFi to do its job, but staying connected to my 5G Gateway allows the Mower App to maintain full control over this Mower. Currently the WiFi drops off while the mower is in certain areas around the far end of its prescribed Mowing areas. I've looked into WiFi Range extenders and there are too many options, including the "Mesh" extenders which allow easier signal transition for automated devices. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thx. Your presentation here is much more understandable than what I've seen on YT so far regarding this 5G Gateway.
So the mesh systems are probably the best solution, but also most expensive. There are some inexpensive extenders on Amazon. I got one for my mom’s house where only one room had issues with coverage. That sounds similar to you? Maybe start with an extender and see if it works. They are easy to set up and connect to your main Wi-Fi.
Love my T-Mobile, I’m grandfathered and my speeds are awesome, tower is just over the hill from my home so 5g connection, I’m not going anywhere,,cannot beat it, and yes, I game and stream.
I've been a TMobile wifi cx for about 6 months and it's adequate in Salt Lake City. When I moved within the metro, they told me they didn't support my new, address, but it's working just as reliably as before. And I work from home and have a lot of smart devices.
I have had tmobile for about 3 years now. In the beginning all was well, but lately last 6 months have had both dropped cell calls and internet connection. We are ready to try somebody else.
Love my t-mobile. Switched from Cox cable and Verizon for cell phone and saved over $100 a month with the internet phone bundle t-mobile offered me. Speeds are good. I run a TV and the internet on the computer at the same time with no problem. Maybe one time a month I get the circle on the tv and computer, I just restart the gateway from my phone app and in 3 minutes I have always been up and running. I don't game so I cant comment on that.
I have fiber, and you can not beat that quality of connection. Having a single undisturbed medium is what we all desire. It is worth paying a chunk extra for, unless you are a more basic user.
Depends how close you are to a tower and how dense a population area. I only tried it because I had to wait a month to get FiOS. It was good and half the price so I stuck with it. I have been using it for a year now no issues so far. Worth a try for sure
We love TMo, 6 years now. Will be getting TMo Home tomorrow. The area is growing. Considered about network saturation and congestion. TMo tech support has no answer for that, feh.
Spectrum only values their customers when they call to cancel their service. They offered me $30 per month for 24 months too stay but only after I called to cancel Went to fiberoptic and haven't looked back
1. No bridge mode. You can't use your own firewall/router as you'll be double-NATting. 2. No IPv6 support despite T-mobile's mobile network is fully IPv6.
I have had great service with T-Mobile home 5G internet! Occasionally, everything dies, and I have to reboot the 5G Gateway, and then everything works perfectly again.
I currently have cable TV with xfinity internet. I'm considering cutting the cable since my bill will increase by $55 in May. I've thought about using t mobile 5g internet but concerned how it stands up compared to infinity 1200 mbps 35 mbps upload plan.
Same with spectrum. Shame that cable companies will not offer a tiered internet for non section 8 subscribers but then monopolies can do what they please.
Great review, thank you. Question: How do you set it up if you don't already have wifi from some other service? It looked like your phone had wifi already while you were setting it up with your phone. And also, can you set it up from a laptop if you don't have a smartphone? Thank you!
I am pretty sure you need a phone to set it up through the app. You use cellular data for the steps until you connect to Wi-Fi. The app explains it all. I also have a separate setup guide on my channel!
I live in a small but big tourist village that gets great T-Mobile service. However I’m up on the outskirts and only get 1-3 bars of service and tried tmo internet. I got zero data output so I tried an external cell booster antennae on my roof. Cell service got slightly better but I was able to full bars on the router tmo sent me. After speed tests I was able to get up to 109 mbps. Much better than 5 I got before the booster. However after putting my camera system(blink 4 cam system) it cut the speeds to 40-50mbps. Not enough to play on my Xbox so I sent it back and went back to tmobike who offered the same price tmo was giving.
I've had Cox cable internet. They've never been able to provide advertised speed I've paid for. They actually throttle it. A couple speed tests in series did increase the download/upload speeds. At the beginning of the year the cost went from $105 to $135. They wanted to lock me into a 2 year contract to get a $10 discount. T-Mobile home internet was the rescue. I do agree with you're assessment of slow speeds and sometime no internet. The other issue is having the gateway away from your main activity room for best reception does make hard wiring your desktop or TV set more a challenge. Has anybody figured out the antenna connections and a wireless router?
I switched from T-Mobile to spectrum cable and love it. My price point is $45 and the speed is so much faster than T-Mobile. Good luck to those that have T-Mobile.
@@donnaperry2915 T-mobile raised my set price like crazy during covid period. I'm on Spectrum contract that's ending soon. Looking for new provider atm too
Heads Up. The availability is incorrect on their website in a lot of places. It said out city wasn't covered but when I went into am actual TMobile store we were covered and we got it and after a year it has been fine.
i pay 40e/month for my mobile unlimited internet and TV; also no BS 'offer', no contract (yes, no contract) no ties in small letter text, next day delivery - best thing since sliced bread
it wasnt available at my address but i didnt want it for home im a truck driver and wanted it for the truck was able to go to the store and get past the waiting list works awesome in the truck
I have had t-mobile internet for about a year and pretty satisfied with it. (It cut my internet bill more than 5:21 half, since I only pay $30 month). When I first got it I did start getting internet ads for businesses in FL and other places where I didn’t live. but after a while (and perhaps a few reboots of the modem) I get local ads again. So perhaps it’s a matter of if they run out of local IP addresses they give you a random one, and eventually you will get a local one. That’s just a guess. That might be the cause/solution to the local streaming channel issue-just wait a while and reboot the modem.
I am new with Tmobile home Internet 14 day trial period luckily the timing is what i wanted because of the blizzard like conditions this has helped me understand what speeds i would expect when bad weather shows up in our area. I try different servers when looking for speeds and my goal range is between 200mbs and 300mbs good news is I am about 1.5 miles away from a tower so not bad and the modem i have has the option to use internal antennas or external antennas which i will be looking into. for the price i cant argue with that since i already pay almost $100 for xfinity thank you Michael
I use the service and I do sometimes have trouble with the internet slowing at night but it's gotten way better as of late. I've been using sling the entire time with no issue though.
Hi Michael, awesome video and i have a question. I tried using T mobile internet maybe a year ago and speed wasn't quite up to how it was advertised so we went with verizon 5 g home internet (that white square modem you showed in the vid). Watching your review, i noticed that the modem looks different than how i remembered. When you compared to verizon and tmobile, were you able to tell which internet service was more reliable? We are noticing that verizon internet is sometimes loses connections too and we are paying 60 per month. Our family has T Mobile plan so might as well switch to this one if tmobile is better.
Where I live, I prefer Verizon slightly. It's going to depend on where you live. As for the gateways, both services have gone through different generations of their gateways. If T-Mobile is available where you live, it may be worth a second try to save money. I have more here on the internet options I've reviewed: th-cam.com/video/Gxv-cNwXEh4/w-d-xo.html
Needing to have the gateway next to or close to a window limits it's wifi and ethernet capabilities. I f you don't need to hardwire anything I guess it's ok. The speed even at it's highest is way to low for my needs but for someone who needs a basic setup this would be cool
I'm wondering if using a mesh network and eliminating the router's wifi addressing eliminates the issue with streaming. We use Sling, and this would be a dealbreaker. Guess I'll find out today.
Great videos Michael! Is it truly unlimited data? When I see term details, it says speeds can be capped if you use more than 1.2TB per month. Maybe it means yes, your speeds may slow after 1.2TB, but there will no increase in cost for going over 1.2TB?
Hi! This is new fine print they added recently along with the pricing change. It is not a cap. Cap means data stops. However, data may be slowed after 1.2 TB because users are further deprioritized. So still unlimited but possibly more speed reductions for heavy users.
It has never been available here in Nashua, NH. As an apartment renter, nothing other than Comcast Xfinity is here. We gave up their Cable TV and home phone almost 2 years ago. Fidium Fible also is not available in our apartments. We are currently paying $95.00 a month with Xfinity for a 1GB plus speed. There is Hughes net, but that requires a dish for use. Also checked Peekskill- Cortlandt Manor NY, but T Mobile Internet is not available there either. 😮
They said it wasn’t available at my address. Went to the T-Mobile store and they let me take home a gateway to test out. Well it worked fine and I got to keep the service.
@@JadeK297me too that's what happened to me, which is cool but I fear they are going to overload the system eventually and we're all going to suffer for it, unless they really really start pumping up the upgrading the systems to handle all the extra load
@@RonnieRockafellaT Mobile told me that it forbids the store people to sell the service in an area that says there isn't any. They told me they need to be reported as they'll be fired for it as T-M wants to give good and fast service to everyone and if it's over sold, it overloads the system and congests everything the service goes down the tube.
I have Sling TV with T-mobile internet and get only 3 local channels in my market but an OTA antenna gets the rest of them fine. Very good internet product, saved me a lot of money compared to cable.
I use Sling TV with my T-M internet too The only time I have any issues is with 1 channel and it tends to have buffering issues at times. Not as bad as it was but I think Sling has improved their service some too as it works better than it used to. I have more issues with internet on my computer being real slow at times, or buffering real bad, which I didn't before with a previous service
Had this service for a year, but recently switched to ATT fiber optic service and it's light years better, pun intended. I work from home and have a lot of teams calls and it kept dropping the cell signal in the most important times (usually as I was about to present a report). Cost is about the same.
To my T Mobile I have 55+ for $30 a line unlimited talk/text/ data. I also have the gateway for $50 a month. I've had the phone service for 17 years at the same price. I have the old cylindrical one which has a built in backup battery so when I reboot it I unplug it and turn a switch off on the connection panel. They are going to have to pry my cold dead hands off my account with TMo! Micheal, did your new gateway come with that feature?
Hi, I am just starting tp learn about cutting the cord. We have a lot of devices on our current routers. Are we able to use our current router setup via a network cord from the T-M gateway?
We tried T-Mobile with great results during the earlier times of the day. But around 4 in the afternoon, speeds would decrease to a crawl. I would experience speeds as slow as 1mb. We cancelled, but they still kept my initial payment and would not refund.
that 4 pm timeframe is also an issue in my area. was the same with AT&T. when i have issues, i switch to hotspotting with my T-Mobile cell. magically, my internet improves. was flawless for the first 12 days i had the home internet service.
Interesting and good information for those (IMO) with either poor alternatives or with no other options. Fortunately, in SW Florida we have Frontier FiOS with $59.99/mo 1Gbps/1Gbps ($45/mo 500/500 Mbps) with extremely stable, low latency and jitter typically
As a counter, I dropped Frontier cable/internet service as it was slow in my area (Los Angeles) and customer service was lousy. When I called to cancel the cable TV function the rep said it wasn't possible, so I canceled the whole thing. Now they want me back as an internet-only customer (Whaaat?!?). Nope, I'm gone. I went with Spectrum for a two year internet/phone special (ends in a few months) and for all the trash talk it gets its been reliable; first month was a problem as they updated software. If the price gets jacked too high I'll probably switch to T-Mobile for both phone and internet (the T-Mobile 5G wireless was not available in my area two years ago).
@@crosslink1493 .. Frontier's service is crap, but thankfully I haven't had the need for them. My speed has always been as advertised and during our last several Florida hurricanes over the years I've never lost service although we've lost our power. We have a whole-house generator, we had our AC on and Netflix!
With mortgage and insurance going up. I can sure deal with a little slow down once in a while. Verizon is close to 100.00 per month for me. I was considering T-Mobile last year. But didn’t look I to it. I will now do the trial to see how it works. Thank you for your video. 👍🏽
This is why I’m here. I’ve had Verizon internet since 2020 and always paid $79.99 because I had a $10 discount for automatic payments. In December 2023 they started charging me $83.99. Of course I didn’t notice until this month because my bills are paperless and unless I see a price change of course no one is signing in online to view a bill that hasn’t changed. Online they’re saying the prices increased for all customers to cover the costs of tv programming which doesn’t concern me as I only have internet. I called today and was basically told it’s just a price increase and I’m almost certain there’s been no changes to the product! Smh being a consumer sucks these days!
you forgot to add its DOUBLE-NATted or even tripple NATTED if you use a router.... I had them but dumped em fast on the DOUBLE NAT/TRIPPLE nat thing... or basically known as CGNAT...
It's only just available in my area. and T-Mobile is still advertising $50/mo. I'm currently paying $80/mo. with AT&T. I just did a speed test and AT&T's download speed is 53mps, so T-Mobile sounds good. I don't upload. Anyway, I'm poor and saving $30/mo. is a big deal to me. I'm going to try it.
They mostly all rent tower space. Very likely that the nearest T-Mobile and the nearest att antenna will be the same distance so it's unlikely that T-Mobile will be any faster
I can see the T-Mobile tower, put the tower near the window. I’ve never gotten over 150-180mbps. Once I got everything connected it went even slower. I think it’s good for a basic internet home. A family that’s streaming, kids that game, probably not the best internet choice. I don’t want to, but i have to stay with Comcast. The internet is just too fast from them not to have. I’ve never seen less than 280mpbs constantly
Your review of T-Mobile Home Internet is spot on from my experience. I have been with them for two years now in the Los Angeles area. There are periods where the service seems to be great with no issues. Also there see to be periods where the service seems to have issues you have mentioned. I have called T-Mobile many time about this. I previously was with Spectrum for home internet and they did not these issues but I did not like their pricing structure as they keep raising the price on you every year and act like they have a monopoly on it. I guess there are pros and cons to each provider and picking one the you can live with.
I'm also in Los Angeles, just trying to leave Spectrum for the same reason - every couple of months after the first year or two the bill started increasing rapidly. Started at $89, but it's over $230 now. The internet drops outs, or lags, and they've lost channels in the cable lineup. Just trying T-mobile now. I also found Philo streaming cable for $25 which has about the same channels as Spectrum for a fraction of the price. Fingers crossed. And they installed the cable across a window which rats use to try to chew their way in to the house.
I wanted it to work since Verizon was $60.00 more per month just for high-speed internet but it buffered my TV. I need to run a school laptop, my work laptop, TV and usually an i-pad and it just can't handle all of those on a typical day.
Which WiFi gateway if any will let you port forward?? That’s a necessity for me and I’m pretty sure a couple years ago I could but the gateway I tried when signing back up a few weeks ago it didn’t have that option so I canceled
I can see the cell tower it's about a quarter mile from my house and live in a rural area of RI so for me it's great the speed varies but between 500-1gb down and 50-100 up. Never noticed slow downs at night but the wifi goes down once in a while and I have to reboot the router. Also connecting to the router with the phone app is pretty sketchy
It can get pretty bad. I showed some speed tests in the video. Would not be ideal for a household of six. Do you have other high-speed options? If you are unsure, you can enter your address using my new plan comparison tool: michaelsaves.com/internet-plan-comparison-tool/
I have had several friends try wireless 5G home internet. Out of 8 people, only one still has it. The other 7 have virtually the same complaints. Wildly inconsistent download speeds. Also, T Mobile increased prices, even for existing wireless customers. But it is NO LONGER TRULY UNLIMITED!! They will throttle/deprioritize you after 1.2 TB!!! It is not hard to get to 1.2 TB. Especially if you have multiple family members streaming. I will stick with my consistent cable modem.
I don't have 5G in my area, so I can't get it even if I wanted to. I pay $80/mo for my cable internet, but it's very dependable, and I get 600 Mbps download speed with no data cap. I'll keep that.
I get 550+ during the day and during congestion now that the other 2 towers are upgraded in my area I gotten as high as 940 for download and 102 for upload at night I stay around 780+ I’m locked in at 50$ so I don’t have to worry about price hikes or the slow down after 1.2
We used it in our travels. Their enforcement of 'single location' and ridiculous price increase is making me rethink our cell business with them. I think they'll regret their huge blunder with this, once the huge customer bugout wave happens.
been with AT&T for at least 25 years just now thought I'd try t-mobile internet (I love the cell phone service local and international) but for the life of me I cannot seem to pair my wireless printer because of no WPA button, and ATT has included AntiVirus software for all my computers (2 desktops, 3 laptops). I have it to test for 15 days, but It is driving me nuts, i wish it worked, it is faster and much cheaper than AT&T.
I was thinking about trying it out but cell phones have a hard time connecting to 5G in my house. I'm guessing it wouldn't work well. My sister actually uses T-Mobile for her cell service and it is terrible here even worse than others.
I have preferred Verizon's network over the years. However, T-Mobile is very good where I live now. Maybe one day? (I have the $25/month Visible plan.)
I have the T-Mobile internet. I also have the Verizon Internet. T-Mobile seems to be the better choice. Verizon speed is capped at 25mb while T-Mobile is almost 400MB. And my Verizon is capped at 300GB.
Can you add an outside antenna to the Wifi Gateway device and if so, how far can I be away from the tower in order to get full speeds? I see they have a tower about 8 miles away but my address is not covered.
Is this service a true unlimited plan or do they throttle your speeds after a certain amount of data use. Very important considering one Xbox game could be over 120 GB worth of download data.
speeds are all over the place and it depends on the tower at home i get 70 to 130 when busy when not over 300, But the service is not geo locked so i have takken it with me to other places and seem speeds over 600
I do have a window that faces the cell tower, but I also tried moving the router to an internal room facing a wall in the cell tower "line of sight" with no change in signal strength. I'm only 200-300 yards away from the cell tower though.
Hi, India we get external antenna which solves connectivity issues; can you check how to go about it; check India jio air fiber or india airtel jio fiber
I have had T-Mobile home internet. 2 plus years. At the first location speed has dropped to 2mbps and less. That's from 300mbps. Horrible is there deprioritization for home internet. It was fantastic sad no more.
I put the router on a window sill 12 feet up with a clear view to the tower and had all kinds of interruptions. Then I put the router on a bookcase on the 1st floor behind a window curtain and brick walls of my neighbors house blocking the tower and then Bam all the connection issues went away. Like wtf😮
It's intended for one house only. They have a new plan called Away for frequent travelers. That said, I know people who've taken it to different locations.
I know someone 14 houses away from me has tmobile internet, yet by some bs reason by a fraction a public hair I'm out of the coverage area. The only cable company that's here is spectrum and their service goes out alot and they keep price gouging so I'm screwed. Its my complaint, I get more dependable service with amateur radio I can even use a HF radio and a tablet to do something digital is push comes to shove.
I tried T-Mobile service about a year ago and I had to give it up. We have about 75 smart home devices and the T-Mobile modem couldn't handle them. As is mentioned, I tried it side-by-side with my Charter internet which has never had a problem handling our smart home devices. I hated that, because I really really like the wireless idea.
Hi, you could add a $50 mesh router (refurb TP-Link Deco-W2400) to the ethernet port for 100 devices, and also simultaneously use the T-Mobile modem wifi (but would have a different network name as the mesh). One of my laptops is faster on the mesh network and the other laptop is faster on the T-Mobile wifi network, same room and distance from the routers. Or TP-Link Deco XE5300 (Costco) or AXE5400 (other retail) for 200+ devices for about $300.
@@sydneybird116 I use three routers, two Nighthawks and a TP Link. The devices are equally distributed. My spectrum internet has no problem with that. The T-Mobile had major problems. Since I'm paying the same for either one, I decided to stick with Spectrum. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
I just recently got fiber installed... i was considering this before i got fiber.. i pay a bit more with fiber but i also get 99.98% uptimes speeds at 1gig and the options to go higher as well as symmetrical 1gig upload... there is no comparing 5g home internet from any company to fiber... cable and DSL yes maybe... but not fiber fiber is leaps and bounds ahead of thing ur gonna get from 5g or wireless internet
With my Gigabit cable, I never got more than 300 down/100 up and it drops to 5 down when all of the neighbors are home. Also frequently drops for a few seconds a couple times a day. I'm 4 days into my T-Mobile trial and already have superior service on my 35 devices (no gaming).
@@sydneybird116i would consider contacting ur service provider... if you are paying for gigabit cable and never getting more then 300 down id be seriously getting on my ISP until they fixed it sometimes you just have to keep bugging them over and over

Best in rural! Most rural towers are almost never congested
Yes home internet is so amazing 😅 I have the Verizon home internet and it’s very good for me.
What speeds average in your area
@@Dopeweed79 iii get 90 Mbps on averrage
@@Dopeweed79🎉
Another great thing is that no more cable connection from your home to the pole. Not having to call a technician to checkout the pole when there's problems. So happy it's a wireless connection to a tower.
In fact, the fact that it does not come with a cable is bad because the speed is not fixed and fluctuates a lot depending on the weather.
😂 stop capping t mobile coverage is garbage
I'm on the magenta max plan but get charged 25 cents for international calls when I was in Europe. What plan are you having?
Hi I guess I wasn't real clear, but, I was referring to text and data. I am on the Magenta plus and do have to pay the 25 cents for phone. I just never use phone when I'm traveling. Sorry about confusion.@@rambleon2838
All calls charge .25 across plans. He pertains with data unli when he brought unit with him.
Unlimited data is a key point as many people will exceed the limits from other providers if you stream 4K and do a lot of game play.
FOR SURE! I WISH THEY WOULD QUIT TRYING TO GOUGE PEOPLE'S WALLET AND JUST OFFER A FAIR UNLIMITED PLAN FOR EVERYONE
I have T-Mobile home internet and I love my service. Thank you for sharing.
We have very low speeds, too! Plus, disconnections!
(This is assuming you live in a rural location or an area that's not yet wired for any other ISP.)
Our local mobile number kicked back that internet service had not become available in our area. The city number kicked back that internet service was *now* available in the area. With several phone calls to T-Mobile customer service, I was able to get unlimited home internet even though technically it's not yet available in our location.
Probably because potatoes are smarter than their employees.
I just used one of my kids street address and got the new system a few days later.
@@EarlBalentine So did you have them mail it to your kid's address, then bring it home and connect it?
How does using your own router give you better performance?
Informative, organized and to the point. Thank you!
We can use cell phones as hotspots now if they are given priority - I started using the internet with AOL and a 14k modem LOL back in the day
My address was not on 5G list but I did get it when I tried the box. Just changed my address to my office which was 5G allowable and no problem. They use billing address not location of the box.
Price is great, but we live near the airport, it isn't very fast and we lose connection several times a day. Fiber is going in, and we are moving to it! I wish it had worked!
I've gotten as fast as 950 down with the 5g gateway, and normally get over 700mb down. Unbelievable. I absolutely love it.
Your gateway is going to start levitating soon at those speeds. wow
Great news because we ordered it tonight! Our address did show it should work in our area. Fingers crossed. Thank you for this very informative vid!
I've been a TMobile wifi cx for about 6 months and it's adequate in Salt Lake City. When I moved within the metro, they told me they didn't support my new, address, but it's working just as reliably as before. And I work from home and have a lot of smart devices.
I travel all over california, texas, new mexico and AZ with no problems with signal. This system rocks and unlimited data until the cows come home.
I need help
I agree that fiber is best overall, but not sure I am a basic user - yet I do fine running my life and business with 5G.
I've heard so many complains over t mobile in general, mainly the internet.
I live rural and I've had Spectrum for 10yrs. I pay only $53 a month and get 300mbps, which is all I need. Never any issues.
Spectrum only values their customers when they call to cancel their service.
They offered me $30 per month for 24 months too stay but only after I called to cancel
Went to fiberoptic and haven't looked back
1. No bridge mode. You can't use your own firewall/router as you'll be double-NATting.
2. No IPv6 support despite T-mobile's mobile network is fully IPv6.
cant you just solve #1 with speedify
I have had great service with T-Mobile home 5G internet! Occasionally, everything dies, and I have to reboot the 5G Gateway, and then everything works perfectly again.
Your correct. If you can't get a decent 5g connection with your T mobile gateway anywhere in your house, then adding a router won't help .
@@MichaelSaves Thanks very much!
Thanks Michael! I can always cout on your excellent reviews. I am waiting for T-mobile to bring Home Internet to my area.
I have spectrum too and will steer away from t-mobile internet since they have a history of jacking up prices on my mobile

Hi Michael,
awesome video and i have a question.
Thank you for this in-depth video, this was extremely helpful
As an apartment renter,

@@RonnieRockafellaT Mobile told me that it forbids the store people to sell the service in an area that says there isn't any.
I want to use this a portable unit when I travel on vacation. Will that work
Probably not -- they've cracked down on that
Had this service for a year, but recently switched to ATT fiber optic service and it's light years better, pun intended. I work from home and have a lot of teams calls and it kept dropping the cell signal in the most important times (usually as I was about to present a report). Cost is about the same.
Fiber is definitely better than 5G home internet
To my T Mobile I have 55+ for $30 a line unlimited talk/text/ data. I also have the gateway for $50 a month. I've had the phone service for 17 years at the same price.
Yes you can connect your own router
We tried T-Mobile with great results during the earlier times of the day. But around 4 in the afternoon, speeds would decrease to a crawl. I would experience speeds as slow as 1mb. We cancelled, but they still kept my initial payment and would not refund.

That’s great service at a great price!
@@MichaelSaves .. If I didn't have a good service available, I certainly would consider T-Mobile's 5G.
Any data cap?
Direct TV stream might be "compatible" but they need a static IP and they dont want to change.
This is great news especially now that spectrum confirmed Price increase by months end.
So its really no data capped? But my understanding is that they will slow it down on purpose of we overused it.
Thanks for sharing I’m now subbed too and gonna watch more links below thanks again 😊❤
you forgot to add its DOUBLE-NATted or even tripple NATTED if you use a router....
I love my Tmobile home Internet. I have awesome signal strength and I can download games on my Xbox at 280 I can stream 4K movies all at the same time
Ty for adding your experience. Saw your other comment as well.
How bad does it get during high use times? We are 6 people and everyone is constantly connected.
The IP is static. I use direct tv stream and since my IP changes often, they think i am roaming and only allow two streams instead of 10
I don't have 5G in my area, so I can't get it even if I wanted to. I pay $80/mo for my cable internet, but it's very dependable, and I get 600 Mbps download speed with no data cap. I'll keep that.
$60 a month for fiber in our area 400mb no auto pay.
Does this route check your credit even if you have the box?
Can hook up a eero mesh network to this particular unit?
Yes I’m pretty sure. I know some other mesh systems are compatible with my unit.
Have they started that enforcement for you personally? I know it's likely coming soon, but I have not heard from anyone impacted yet.
@@MichaelSaves It will be enforced starting May 8. Announcement was made.
@@jos9569and was it?
been with AT&T for at least 25 years just now thought I'd try t-mobile internet (I love the cell phone service local and international) but for the life of me I cannot seem to pair my wireless printer because of no WPA button, and ATT has included AntiVirus software for all my computers (2 desktops, 3 laptops). I have it to test for 15 days, but It is driving me nuts, i wish it worked, it is faster and much cheaper than AT&T.
Also January of this year the enabled a 1.2 Tb data cap
Good point. It’s not a hard cap, but speeds will be slowed after that.
I was thinking about trying it out but cell phones have a hard time connecting to 5G in my house. I'm guessing it wouldn't work well. My sister actually uses T-Mobile for her cell service and it is terrible here even worse than others.
Michael any reason you didn’t choose T-Mobile as your wireless provider as well ?
I have preferred Verizon's network over the years. However, T-Mobile is very good where I live now. Maybe one day? (I have the $25/month Visible plan.)
I have the T-Mobile internet. I also have the Verizon Internet. T-Mobile seems to be the better choice. Verizon speed is capped at 25mb while T-Mobile is almost 400MB. And my Verizon is capped at 300GB.
Really depends on location. I have a better experience with Verizon Home Internet, pay $45/month and get unlimited data. Why do you keep both?
@@MichaelSaves I am just doing the test drive. Not sure if I want to even keep it.
I was wondering if T-Mobile Internet would work for Ring and Blink cameras?
Yes it does
Can you add an outside antenna to the Wifi Gateway device and if so, how far can I be away from the tower in order to get full speeds? I see they have a tower about 8 miles away but my address is not covered.
I've heard you can add an outside antenna to the gateway, but I haven't used one myself.
I had this T-mobile internet and it was terrible!
Might be a worth a try for you!
Is this service a true unlimited plan or do they throttle your speeds after a certain amount of data use.
Very important considering one Xbox game could be over 120 GB worth of download data.
They slow down after 1.2 TB per month or whenever the network is busy
@@MichaelSaves
Thanks for the info 🙂
speeds are all over the place and it depends on the tower at home i get 70 to 130 when busy when not over 300, But the service is not geo locked so i have takken it with me to other places and seem speeds over 600
I've had nothing but trouble with t mobile metro.
Existing T-Mobile postpaid customers aren't going to have a credit check. AT&T now has a home Internet 5g offering - AT&T Internet Air.
F AT&T. incompetent and scammers.
Can this be good for RV travelling?
I know some people have done that without a problem, though it's designed for use in a single household.
Heads up the gateway screen faces window I know it sounds wrong but that's the way T-Mobile says it should be
I do have a window that faces the cell tower, but I also tried moving the router to an internal room facing a wall in the cell tower "line of sight" with no change in signal strength.
Like wtf😮
What happens when you connect at a different house or location?
It's intended for one house only. They have a new plan called Away for frequent travelers. That said, I know people who've taken it to different locations.
@@MichaelSaves - Thanks for the info. I just bought an RV and I am looking for roaming options.
I completely agree. I mention this in all of my videos about 5G home.
