      Bad Audio on this video. Lots of hissing and static being picked up by the mic. I am trying to do this exact thing using an OpenWrt router but when I hook up the router to the gateway but, when I do I only get 20 mbps instead of the 700 mbps I see when connecting directly to the gateway.

    It’s utterly senseless that the gateways have LAN ports which users are most likely to connect alternative wifi hardware to, yet no convenient software switch to turn off the gateway’s wifi. Just reinforces my belief that T-Mo intended their service for single-occupancy, small dwellings.

    Great video.Very well explained. I have the T Mobil business 5G gateway. I also have a left over Arris sim gateway I had with Verizon. The old gateway seemed to be superior to the T Mobil. I am toying with the settings to see if I can use it as a wi-fi range extender . I would love to see an in depth screen of you going through the menu breaking down the settings while sharing your screen.
    I am curious if I could "clone" my t Mobil router with the Arris?

    Mr Nater Tater you have been sooo much help. I finally got my WaveForm 4x4 installed and it's great! Question: when I do a speed test the first time I get in the 80's down and 20's up. That's 4 time what I was getting so no complaints there. When I start another speed test immediately after the first one I always get more than 2X the speed and sometimes 3X. Why does this happen?

    Great video Nate! Thanks for your content. I have a signal booster and get good reception at home, but I still get very fluctuating speeds in different areas of my house. Would you still recommend the Cheetah router, or would other router solutions would help speeds?

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First off have you tried the home internet with the booster off? For your varied speed in your house that sounds like it is due to your wifi and a mesh setup would help with that. A Cheetah would help get you faster speed close to the router but if you have dead wifi zone in the house those would likely still exist.

      I've had overall good luck with the newest Sagemcom Fast 5688W Gateway, I turned off the 2.4Ghz Wifi and just left the 5G Wifi for troubleshooting, and then I use a TP-Link Deco X20 4 base mesh WiFi setup as the WiFi on the Sagemcom router is a bit weak for a medium to larger size home, even a single story home like mine. I'm in SC near the border of GA, and I'm seeing on average without modding it for external antennas 400Mbps - 600Mbps + down/50Mbps - 150Mbps+ Up with latency between 16ms - 60ms but it's not perfect as I've had a few rare times it's gone next to nothing, but it's not running hot as the clear window it's facing out of has a vent register under it keeping the temp regulated as checked with my thermal gun.

All was well for two weeks when suddenly my speeds couldn't get above 90 Mbps. I connected via ethernet to the gateway and would see speeds around 275 Mbps but through the ASUS - only 90s. I disconnected the mesh system, turned on the wireless in the gateway and was back to 275 Mbps. I can't figure out what is going on. I've reset the ASUS to factory defaults, but nothing changed - still around 90 rather than the 300+ Mbps i saw the first two weeks. Any thoughts on what might be happening?

    Hi Nate, I have an unrelated question. I wonder if you’ve observed that the T-Mobile KVD21 gateway superimposes an unnamed WiFi channel over the T-Mobile active WiFi channel? I see this on channels in both the 2.4 and 5G bands. Using a WiFi analyzer, the superimposed channel is usually about the same amplitude but sometimes a bit lower or higher in amplitude than the active channel. The superimposed channel appears and disappears but is present more than half of the time. I'm sure the superimposed channel is being transmitted from the T-Mobile Gateway, because it gets stronger the closer I get to the gateway. As an example, the active channel could be ch 2 in the 2.4G band. I had T-Mobile send me a replacement gateway and it does the same thing. I talked to T-Mobile customer service twice, but they didn't know what I was talking about. I haven't found any information on the internet regarding this. Maybe it's some kind of normal function, but it seems like it could be causing some interference. Thanks, Brian

    Ok. the problem I am having is the dynamic Ip. Some of the banks in my area do not support Dynamic Ip addresses. I talked to T-Mobile about the problem, they said I needed to set up either a router or an extender because either one would give me a static Ip and should fix the problem. There are two main types of IP, WAN and LAN. WAN is internet/public facing and LAN is local to your house. I had some issues at the beginning of using TMHI from some financial website that wanted some additional verification to "prevent fraud" that was likely tied to the way tmobile does WAN IP addresses. After verifying a few times i didnt have an issue again. I've never heard of a bank not allowing a "dynamic IP" but I have seen extra verification steps. A router wont address that.

    Say you have a Arcadyan KVD21 gateway and a Netgear router. Is there an easy way to turn off the wifi on the Tmobile gateway, so that it is only receiving the cellular signal to provide an internet connection to the netgear router? Right now a family member has both a netgear router and a tmobile gateway connected via ethernet. On any device in their house, it shows up that there are four different internet connections to connect to (a 2.5 Ghz and 5 Ghz for each device). This gets rather confusing (trying to know what to connect to for the best performance speed). Also, would it possibly make the netgear router's internet connection any faster, not having any interference from the Tmobile gateway's wifi signal? I'm trying to figure out a way to help get their connection to be more consistent/stable for them.
