@@rosstedfordkendall Nah, I can think of a few Famicom titles from earlier than even this game's original arcade release that put this port to shame. This looks almost like it was made to look awuful even for 8-bit standards on purpose,and since intentionally bad ports made to make a particular piece of hardware look bad aren't something unheard of, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

Had Namco waited a few years later, say 1989, or 1990 to make this game, it likely would've looked much better.
Super Mario Bros. came out a few months before this port, so my theory is that Namco rushed this port out in an attempt to capitalize on the success of Super Mario Bros.
The logo on the title screen for this version scared the hell out of me when I saw it. You can seriously tell that this hasn't aged very well. The music was at least faithful however.

Pac-Land for Family Computer/Nintendo Entertainment System was looks better than home computer ports, but it's a MS Paint graphic. NAMCO in the early days had their arcade games port to FC/NES thanks to Nintendo granted all-publishers during FC/NES era with 30% fee.
The arcade version is the one that people pull this MS Paint shit with, not knowing that even nearly 40 years later, the arcade version looks stunningly nice.
It came out for some Japanese PC's (like the Sharp X68000 where it is almost arcade perfect), some western PC's, the Famicom, the PC Engine/TG-16, the PS1 on Namco Museum 4, but never for the SNES.
Holy fucking Shit, they were tripping Balls, when they thought it‘s a fantastic Idea of moving forward by using A & B Correct me, if I‘m wrong but I guess that Nintendo put Arrows on the D-Pad, because of the Reason, that they symbolize Directions Namco on the other Hand: Nahh we don‘t think we should do that, those 2 red Circles are so much better, of course.
This is one of the most disappointing Ports for the Famicom, Pacman looks like a corn pop with arms and legs, I love Pac Land and this just looks like crap
It's not the worst game of all time, is just that it has flaws in this, the control is awful because in most curtains games, the d pad moves each directions and A & B performs actions, well in this it's much worser than spiderman,the Terminator, Robocop, Ninja kun, and Karate Master on NES, All the arrows on the d pad is Jumping and A & B moves pac man, what a piece of shit! Also it's very difficult because if you die like 3 times, YOU GO BACK TO BEGINNING OF THE GAME! the only 2 things that are not bad are the music and graphics, they're okay Edit: I changed my mind, the audio and the graphics aren't that good anymore

Very smooth graphics and poor music port for a NES game Edit: this game looking like this on an Atari 2600, for instance, would be noticeably awesome, not on a NES
Awful, awful port of the arcade game. The levels are redesigned, and there's some goddawful ones requiring pixel perfect jumps later that no other version has. Visuals look like crap too. Lots of features missing as well, like the scenes where the Fairy Queen gives Pac his flight boots, or Pac's family waiting for him when he gets home. Anyone would be much better off giving this one a miss and just playing the arcade or PC-Engine versions.
Graphics are not that great and pacman runs slower compared to the original layout and drawings look cheap music was ok but the nes could do better than that
Well this was made in the Famicom's early years, before mapper chips that expanded memory existed. Had this been made in 1988 or later, it might have fared better.

To be fair, it was a very early Famicom/NES game, so they were still learning to work on graphics.

Not sure if the haunted house levels are in this version. It is the only stage in the arcade version that has different theme music to it.

Beacause the nes has 256x240 cannot do hardware stretched resolution. But the arcade resolution is about 256x264
