This has got to be one of the best monitors I've ever used. Let me know what y'all think of it. I'm interested to hear what questions you have about it.
I just bought one, and I'm really liking it. The last monitor I bought was the 48" lg OLED, which was good, but somewhat disappointing when it comes to the cost. The Alienware 32, on the other hand, is stunning, with insane colors.
do the increased black levels due to lack of polarizer bother you much? i mean, what i can see on this video, apple monitor seems to be have better blacks being not even an oled.
Thank you man. All these other reviewers are doing videos and you out of all people got up close and personal with good lighting and uploaded it 4k I salute you brother. Thank you for what you do. I wish success on your channel.
Just watched your video on my brand new AW3225QF and I totally agree. Holy smokes, this is the best monitor EVER SEEN. Period. I am really tempted to buy a second one for my GF PC...
Great review! Nearly navigated away to look up Mac compatibility and then you covered it right on time. Lovely monitor, but for productivity I’d rather a non-curved version
Thanks! I'm glad you found it helpful. I totally understand that. It takes a while to get used to and for some it's just not going to work. There's plenty of options out there now so it's worth it to put your money towards the thing that's going to work for you.
Hey there, great video! I see the color is pretty awesome. Was wondering if there is a mode to edit my artwork and prints. So I can see exactly what colors will come out. 😊🤔
Finally a reviewer that touches on using a Mac with this monitor and shows it! I just built a new gaming PC but I'm a Mac user as my daily driver. I'll be getting a new MacBook Pro next month and I've been wanting to see how 4K looks with a Mac connected to the Alienware or if I will buy the Studio Display too. Thank you!
You're welcome! Let us know how the new Mac is. I'm using a Mac way more than I use PC these days and it's been great with the M1. I can't imagine what 240Hz on a Mac would be like. Perhaps, I'll find out one of these years when I upgrade the M1. I have a video on the Studio Display if you're interested. The largest downsides are the 60Hz and the IPS panel.
Yw! Def can't forget about the Mac. It's such a great computer that deserves a great display. I use it for work (coding) and all my videos. Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to see in future videos.
Thanks for going over the MacOS experience, especially with IDE use and text clarity. I will probably use this for many hours doing Angular dev, so that segment was very helpful lol
i love how you demonstrated the un-runnability of 4k at the same time, which is probably the biggest concern I have with it. Unless the user buys a 4090, which is pretty nice. I feel like this product is a few years ahead of the times, or just for ultra high end.
Thanks! I wanted to shed light on that. It's far from unplayable but it takes some hardware to push this thing. A 4090 just doesn't make sense to buy rn, imo. Graphics cards will always get better and cheaper. Monitors progress much slower. I suspect this monitor will be hard to beat for a long time.
@@TaylorBrauermay I ask why it doesn’t make sense to buy a 4090? I’m currently using a 1080 ti and am wanting to upgrade. But I don’t know what card makes the most sense to grab at the moment.
@@Starwind0045 The 4090 is the most powerful card you can buy, but it's also a terrible value at it's price point. It's extremely hard to get it under MSRP too. Based on previous generation release cycles, the next generation of graphics card will be coming in 2025, if not a little sooner if we're lucky. It's expected those will handle 4K resolutions at high frame rates better.
Thanks for showing all the use cases. I do both games and productivity and you checked all the boxes. One thing that's interesting is it doesn't seem to have KVM and I'm unclear about the glare - curious your thoughts on Glare I have the old Dell 32 4k (same price point but 60hz) and the glare is crazy bad
Yw! Correct, no KVM on this monitor. I believe some other brands, Gigabyte maybe, does have a KVM version of this panel. The glare isn't terrible but it's there in certain situations. I have some more testing with glare on my "7 things to know..." video, if you're interested.
I've been wanting 4K 32" OLED for awhile now! But not sure I'm ready for a curved display though. I almost got a 43" OLED but read a lot that text looked bad on them. And was afraid it would would be too big. I've been using a Gigabyte M32U 4K 32" 144hz monitor the last few years its been serving me well though. Gaming wise I'm sure I'd love a curved display. But workflow not sure how I'd like it.
The curve is a little odd at first and can take some getting used to for productivity. I think my experience with a curved ultrawide made me more confident with this Alienware. The great thing about these new panels is MSI, Gigabyte, and LG are making non-curved monitors that are the exact same Samsung panel. So, you have some options. One of the Gigabyte monitor also has DP2.1.
@@houssamalucad753 will see the price of dell when it drops in Europe, if prices will be ok, maybe I'll push the trigger on it, if not, might wait for msi
Recently purchased this monitor as I upgraded to a new build with a 4080 super and wanted to push above 120fps with 4k. The monitor is insane and has surpasses all my expectations. I also have 2 lg oled tv's and though comparable it is crazy to have all those pixels in such a small screen vs 55 and 77 inches
The real unicorn is finding something like this in a 1440p 32". I don't have a 4090, I'm behind the times with an old 6800xt, so 4k is a bit tough but I can drive 1440p just fine. I've been running an ultrawide and I just don't want that anymore due to some other use cases outside of gaming that I do, but I want 1440p, QDOLED 32" and I haven't seen it ANYWHERE!
That 6800xt isn't a bad card at all and might get you more that you think. I demo'd some gameplay on a 2070 maxQ laptop card in my "7 things to know.." video and the 6800xt is a much more powerful card than that 2070. You can also run games at 1440p on a 4k monitor. Just something to consider.
Awesome video, thanks for the infomartion . I currently own the AW3423DWF 165hz OLED, using it with alienware m16 r1 rtx 4090 and 7945hx laptop, I play warzone a lot and I can achieve 220-230FPS. Since you own the both the 34 oled and the 32 240hz oled, do you see yourself missing the ultrawide? Or the 32 inch 4k 240hz feels like a good upgrade? Thank you, I appreciate your input on this.
Thank you! That's a beast of a laptop. I'm not missing the 34. Personally, I like non-ultra wides more and combined with the 4k and higher refresh rate, the 32 is better in every way. That's not the case for everyone so you really gotta consider your prefrences.
I believe console mode may give you the ability to bypass the tone mapping of the monitor and solely allow the source to tone map the content. This is based on what the alienware 34" did in console mode. Solid review. This monitor is at the top of my list currently as a do everything monitor. That 3 year warranty is fantastic as well. With OLEDs it is a must. I play mostly PC with some XBOX series X as well.
Ah, so more so giving color control over to the console rather than the monitor doing all the work kinda thing? I'm still not familiar with how the even works as I thought all that was really just the monitors job. That 3 year warranty is such a good piece of mind. I feel like I want to use it more with that so I get the most out of it before the burn in inevittably happens, whenver that might be.
Just bought this monitor using it for my ps5 should I turn on or off hdr? Can’t mess with the settings when hdr is on and seems a bit dark . I play mostly warzone and it looks dark please help
@@joaquinarchivaldoguzmanloe1073 You might have to do some experimenting to really dial in what works best for you. Different games might look better/worse with HDR or SDR. I was finding that RE4 remastered was looking too dark in SDR.
@@joaquinarchivaldoguzmanloe1073 Turn the HDR brightness to max setting. If that game still looks too dark turn off HDR. I've found some games just do not work well with HDR on.
Thank you for the great review! I am looking for a monitor to use with my M1 MacBook, which do you feel is more eye fatiguing compared to this and Studio display? Also, I've been using IPS all my life and have never used an OLED, should I close the curtains in a room with sunlight?
Yw! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Neither is eye fatiguing and I've used both for 8 hours a day for coding. However, that's just me and everyone's experience might be a little different. The ASD is ever so slightly sharper and it's also smaller. I don't believe you'll need a curtain to block sunlight on the regular unless your monitor is right up next to the window. I use mine against my window but it's facing away from it so light pours into my room from behind it and I haven't had any issues with that. I do some more testing with this in my "7 things to know..." video, if you'd be interested.
You're asking the real questions. It is darn close. Like, very very close. I do think the Alienware is better in terms of color and contrast. However, the pixel density of the MBP screen adds A LOT to the experience.
Interesting, and thanks for the real-world demo on your Mac as well as your Windows box. I bought the Apple Studio Display and didn’t look back, mostly for how well the color is calibrated right from the factory, the dynamic range, and how nice the very fine pixel pitch 5K display is for photo editing. The resale value of Apple displays is insanely good as well. (This is assuming of course you’re a Mac-only user, which I recognize is a severe handicap for gamers). Having said all that, Apple really, really needs competition to push them forward with more frequent display introductions and something at a lower price point in their lineup. I’m looking forward to your next PC build with an absolutely screaming graphics card, now that prices seem to be dipping a bit at the top of the ranges. Yours is always an informative channel. I hope you’re enjoying yourself making these, so we’re all spared from another I’m Quitting TH-cam video! ✌️
I'm looking out for that ASD display update too. It needs ProMotion and a better panel technology. IPS is just so 2010s. I wonder if Apple is feeling any pressure from the release of these new Samsung panels. I appreciate you man! I'm looking forward to making more. haha, there's too much to do before even considering quitting. Have a great rest of your week!
Thats because of the light hitting the QD OLED. It raises blacks and looks more purple but tbh its really a none issue as you wont be using it in a lit room anyway as the thing doesn't get bright enough to really use in one. If it was in a correctly lit room the OLED would honestly look better.
Great video man! I’m looking to get either this monitor or the 27in qd oled Alienware QHD 360hz for productivity and gaming. Have you had the chance to check out the QHD monitor out yet?
Thank you! I haven't seen the QHD one yet but I do have a QHD 240Hz 27". I wouldn't recommend it for productivity as it just doesn't have the clarity that the 4K has. For competitive gaming the QHD should be awesome, if you can drive it with your graphics card.
I’m looking for a monitor that I can do school work and other productivity tasks on as well as game. Does the 4K monitor do a good job at resolution scaling? I play games at 1440p cause 4K is a little too much for my PC. May upgrade in the future though.
Hi Tyler! Very helpful review. Would you recommend this or the Dell Ultrasharp 40 5k2k if your goal is productivity/creative work (software dev, music production and video editing) but you do want the best looking screen of the two. And will be working in daylight mostly. Will the 32 inch screen be enough compared to the 40 inch 5k2k?
You're referring to the U4025QW, right? I can't speak from personal experience with that monitor but it seems really impressive on paper. 40in is going to be very different in size than 32in. The 40 being IPS isn't going to have near the contrast as the 32" OLED. I recommend checking out Dave's Garage's review of this monitor. He's using the monitor for software development so you can see what he finds useful about it. If at all possible try to see both monitors in person to get a feel for what's best for you.
@@TaylorBrauer Yes, I was referring to that model. I did check out that review and it does seem impressive! I just wanted to know whether the QD Oled is a better looking screen overall than the IPS black.
@@shredlife1841 OLED is going to look a lot better in terms of color and contrast. The QD OLEDs, like this monitor, do lose some of that contrast when in direct light which might be something to consider. idk what the ppi is on the 40in but the 32 is something like 140ppi which I find really nice for coding and text clarity.
These OLED panels are great! It seems like 34 ultra wide is ideal for pc gaming at ~100 dpi and 32 4k is ideal for productivity and console gaming at ~130 dpi.
Hi! Thank you for this! I have two questions, would appreciate if you would answer. :) 1. How is the fringing in Mac OS Dark Mode at 2560x1440 vs 3008x1692? Also overall in Mac OS, how is the fringing vs regular MINI-LED? I see that on the close ups in the Windows 11 parts of the video you can clearly see it. Is it the same for Mac OS? 2. How is the performance on the M1 Max? Did you notice any frame drops when running scaled at 3008x1692 120Hz? That's pretty heavy on the Graphics side + the DisplayPort Bandwidth. Thank you!
Yw! Those are really great questions. 1. I haven’t tried dark mode but I probably should. I don’t notice a huge difference in fringing between the mini led and the oled but text clarity is noticeably better on the mini led. Not to say the oleds clarity is bad, it’s great. Just that not many panels can compete with the xdr’s ppi. 2. Performance is great. No noticeable lag in doing everything besides gaming.
Nice! thanks very good review. its the brightness level that's my concern. i sometimes like to work in a bright room. But the colors seems spectacular on this thing.
I can see motion blur in MW3 on your Alienhead OLED. Do you have motion blur enabled within the in game settings? I’m sensitive to motion blur. Only use CRT’s and Zowie’s high refresh rate TN panels for shooter games to get rid of most of the sample & hold blur that other panels seem to not be able to eliminate.
My game settings have world and weapon motion blur disabled. I film at 24fps so it's likely what you're seeing is a direct result of that. TH-cam supports up to 60fps videos which still would show blurring on a high refresh rate monitor. Essentially, it's impossible to convey a true to life representation of the motion clarity. I'd recommend seeing it in person, if possibile, if you're considering this monitor and are on the fence with the blur.
As a owner of this monitor i can assure you, that the blur you are seeing in the video is not actually showing on the monitor. There are very few monitors as clear as this one is.
In my experience, I haven't heard the fan(s) once. I put my ear up to the vent to make sure it was running and it silenty whirs away. I'm going to be keeping a close eye on any issues that arise with a possible follow up video after long term use. Thanks, I appreciate that!
I never experienced any issues on the original firmware outside of the gamma not updating when changed issue. Best to update to get all the latest fixes.
The console settings are good for HDR where you can enable external tone mapping which works best imo. The menu system is annoying but you can download the manager and use it on the desktop instead. Works much better. I use it to control 2 Dell monitors. And on that note, if you buy an OLED for PC, try using another display to keep icons etc. You can put a wallpaper on that on leaving the OLED with a black wallpaper, thus minimising potential burn in. Ive used OLEDs for years and never had burn in.
That makes sense. I'll have to mess around with that more to better understand it. Thanks for info. My plan is to run this monitor just like my IPSs until the 3 year warranty mark. Then, I'll be very careful with moving items on the screen. We'll see how it goes. Perhaps, I'll have to make a 3 year update video.
Considering how things were a couple of years ago... these really aren't bad, there has kind been a revolution with monitors. They were trying to sell LCD 4k 32inch 144hz LCDs for like 2x the price of this. It seems like finally high end monitors are coming back down to reality in line with TVs rather than being ridiculously overpriced.
I find it kinda small. I have a LG 34 inch, ultra wide, ips and on top of it a alienware 24 inch, ips, 240hz. After some research, I found out that *Alienware will release a ultrawide with the same specs as AW3225QF.* I'll just buy that at release(about first or second quarter of 2025).A cool thing is that both of these come with *nVidia Pulsar* chip/feature, so its a big upgrade for fps players. Add to that the fact that it is one of the few big manufacturers that gives *3 year warranty for burn-in.*
I JUST spoke with DELL regarding the Alienware 32 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor - AW3225QF I asked them about the packaging & the firmware updates! Here is the quote: "Both of your questions have been addressed by Dell. The packaging has been adjusted to reduce the chances of micro scratches, and newly shipped units come with the updated firmware" #Monitors #Gaming #PCBuilding #Update #AW3225QF
I saw that you answered a question from like 13h ago, so i am trying my luck here: I'm a photo- & videographer, working on my macbook pro m2 (which is perfect imo), but i need just a bigger screen, so i looked for a 32" model with close to perfect colours in 4k etc. The thing is, that im also gaming a lot, thats why I wouldnt afford a ProArt monitor f.e. bc theres no chance for gaming on that thing. My problem now is, that im looking at like 4 32" 4k OLED monitors with nearly the same specs in a price range from 950-1200€, but I really cannot decide which one to choose. Do you have a recommendation? Im talking the Alienware AW3225QF; MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED; LG UltraGear OLED 32GS95UE-B; ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM
If the back of the monitor is facing the window it works pretty well as that's how I have mine positioned at my desk. However, a window to the side or in front will def need some treatment to get the most out of it.
@@kodreaming Some people have a bad experience and want to vent. There's lots of people who have really enjoyed their monitors and are not on Reddit talking about it. Just make sure to check it when you get it and test everything inside of the return policy so that if there's something wrong you can return it or exchange it.
Hey, congrats! It's a top tier monitor and you are justified in your concern to get the best shipping experience possible. In the event you receive a damaged unit give Dell a call and let them know it's not acceptable and you need a replacement. There's a period of time where there's a no questions asked return policy so make use of it, if you need it. With that being said, I hope it arrives to you in good condition and you love it. Again, congrats!
Wow, the video I have been searching for, you are really creative in certain scenes and have a great selection of topics, love it! Are you missing the Studio Display or are you selling it now? :) I'm in the same boat. I have a gaming laptop, a M3 Pro and Studio Display. I wonder if I should switch to this panel to have a jack-of-all-trades and be able to play games on a big monitor again.
Thank you! I really appreciate that. I'll be hanging onto the Studio Display, for now. I'll use it for work (coding) since it's so clear and works wonderfully with the Mac. I'll have no issue parting ways with it if Apple has a compelling follow up.
Noticably less sharp. However, it's not deal-breaker noticable, imo. The different in sharpness coming from the aw3423dwf at 110ppi is way more noticable. There's not a lot of monitors on the market hitting 218 ppi and above like the Apple displays achieve.
@@TaylorBrauer My 8K Dell UP3218K recently broke which has a 280 ppi. It is now unavailable and the closest thing to it in terms of ppi is the apple displays. I'm wondering if the QD-Oled tech goodness justifies the lower ppi of 140.
@@CookaSoupNieceEH Try to see one in person, if at all possible. I'm not sure when these will be available at retail locations. I'm hopeful they'll start showing up soon.
@taylorBrauer what kind of frames did you get in warzone? I have a 3080ti with the newest Intel processor. I play on a 25” 1080 240 Alienware currently so just on the fence if 32 will be to large and or if the frames will be to low for my expectations.
I haven't tried Warzone but I've tried MWIII Multiplayer. With Warzone being a bit more intense I don't believe you'll be hitting 4k 240 fps on a 3080ti. That's not to say it'll be terrible, you'll just want to make use of DLSS to get the most out of it that you can. I'd recomend you check the monitor out in person, if you can, to get a sense of the monitor. Review lots of sources for benchmarks to make sure you know what to expect before making a purchase. Hope that helps.
I will get it when t drops in my country... should be available in Europe in a week or so. Got a new rig and still running my asus PG279Q from like 2016. It was great monitor back then, and kind a still is (on paper). IPS 165hz, 1440p. But I would love to experience QD OLED in 4k 240hz. Ofc 240hz will be used only like in CS2 i guess lol.
The PG279Q is legendary. That was the first really premium, high-refresh rate monitor and going to 240Hz 4k will be quite the upgrade. It'll shine in CS2 for sure. I notice it's pretty smooth just doing normal things on the desktop as well. Moving windows around never felt so smooth haha.
I'm really interested in the 32-inch monitor reviewed in your video for both gaming and work. I've understood that this monitor does not support 1440p resolution on consoles, which I find quite absurd. Could you please check if this monitor supports gaming at 1440p resolution on consoles? I'm particularly looking to play Apex Legends at 120 fps and use 4k resolution for work tasks. I prefer not to game in 4k on the console due to the significant performance drop in fps games, especially in competitive play. It's crucial for me to have the 1440p functionality for gaming. Your feedback would be incredibly helpful for making my decision. Thank you so much!
how are the blacks in person? im only asking because i noticed the monitor screen isnt fully black when off, its like a hazy maroon or purple, its not just deep black. not sure if thats from recording or what
All OLEDs will have a grey tint when exposted to bright light. It will look best in a lower light environment. Testing this monitor I found that I noticed the grey when I had my studio light pointed directly at it for the video which isn't a typical use case at all.
Hi Taylor I am building a desk setup just picked up the Alienware 3225qf monitor and a MacBook m4 pro. Also a ps5 gamer. My question for you is…….. What is the best way to 1 cable connect my new Mac to this monitor. Ps5 should just plug into monitor with HDMI 2.1 but I am questioning if I need a dock for sure ? Any help would be appreciated thanks for the channel!!!
Your best option is going to be HDMI 2.1 to your Mac. Another thing you can do is get a DisplayPort 1.4 to usbc and plug that into the Mac. I wish that came in the box but it'll have to be purchased separately.
I use Dolby Vision for MW2 to remedy that low brightness dip. That low brightness you're experiencing is completely normal btw. CoD doesn't seem to have a great HDR map and it causes a lot of things to be dark unnecessarily.
In direct sunlight or in super bright rooms the panel will start to grey. This is the nature of all OLEDs, unfortunately. In medium to dark rooms everything is still very black. In a completely dark room you just have to avoid fingerprints because you'll want to live in this monitor, hehe.
@@TaylorBrauer GREAT…no W-oleds ( oleds from lg) do not have this greyish+magenta blacks in bright rooms but it has other down sides, would you recommend this monitor to me for professional color grading?

I don't :( I could consider one though. Perhaps breaking it down by use case since there's many combinations with this monitor. Is there any particular use case you use it for you'd like to see what settings work best?
@@TaylorBrauer I think splitting it out between gaming/entertainment & productivity would be a good start. Maybe almost a step-by-step for someone who just bought it? There isn't much like that out there currently
@@TaylorBrauera setup guide would be great. I’d also suggest maybe within the video having a section on how to calibrate your monitor etc I watch a lot of monitor videos and most creators assume most of us know how to calibrate the monitor and what settings to use. Just a general suggestion, if you could somehow get sound from the games your playing and maybe add some background music, I really like your chill personality but I feel like a little bit of lofi or something similar could be good.
Oh no! I'm sure you've tried but maybe check that gsync and vsync are on while playing. That might help it out a bit. Take advantage of DLSS or FSR where you can. I hope you get your 4090 soon 💪
I just found you. If you downscale and play on 1440P or 1080P, does it turn bad visually; or keep screen tearing? Do you have to run everything in 4K? Have you tried Resident Evil 2 remake in 4K? I think with your specs it should be able to be maxed out at 4K. How do movies look if streamed from your Mac through the TV app? I have a MacBook Pro M1, if that matters or not. How do 4K videos on TH-cam look on it?
If you downscale, you will notice a difference in resolution. However, this should have no affect on tearing or color. You don't have to run everything in 4k, but use dlss or fsr whenever possible for the best image quality without the full render. I've tried RE: 4 remake and it's incredible. I haven't streamed movies from the Mac yet. 2560x1440 seems to be the only resolution on the M1 MBP that supports HDR. I find 1440p a bit too large looking on desktop. TH-cam videos looks great, same as everything else. Just keep in mind about that HDR.
Either one works fine as they are the exact same spec. Same res, same refresh rate, same VRR, same DSC. The only difference being the HDMI fits other devices like consoles so depending on your devices, hdmi could be more versatile.
It’s hard to say this AW is the best one. The same panel is offered by multiple vendors incl. MSI, Gigabyte, etc and they each have their own pros and cons. In terms of the panel, yeah, I think the 4k QD-OLED is the best. In terms of other features, you’ll have to shop around a bit to find one that checks most of the boxes you’re looking for.
I've got some noticeable banding on my AW3225QF with dark grays. It's most visible and distracting in a black room with all lights turned off, but is still visible with lights on and looks like reflections off the screen when panning the camera around in games with a lot of dark gray content, such as Resident Evil 2 Remake. I checked some dark gray test slides on TH-cam and determined that on my unit, this is a noticeable issue up to about 25% gray, but is most obvious below 12% gray. I am wondering if you or others have this issue as well. My Aw3423dwf doesn't do this. It only has some really minor dark grey banding that is hardly a distraction, but this new 4k panel looks far worse in this regard. At 5% gray, it looks like one of those old LG CX TVs almost with dark patches and stripes all over the place. Such a shame, as it is an otherwise very uniform and amazing looking monitor.
I haven't experienced any banding issues. Sounds like something that would be pretty noticeable. Perhaps, consider a replacement if it's not something you'll be ok living with for the long-term.
I know it's a monitor more for games. But would there really be any problems with burn-in if I were to use the monitor exclusively as an office monitor?
Hi, I just bought this monitor so maybe a dumb question. I know I should turn HDR off in desktop settings when doing SD content, but do I need to turn it back on in Windows when playing HDR games or do the HDR games overide that automatically?
@@panzer948 That’s a great question! There’s not a way for it to automatically switch and it’s either all SDR or all HDR. You can use the key combo “Win + Alt + B” to quickly toggle but you might have to restart your game for it to recognize if you do the key command while in game.
I'm using Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless headset connected via usb-a on the monitor which is in turn connected to my PC. Unfortunately, there's no audio connectors of any kind on this monitor. eARC HDMI is the only port that can handle an audio solution such as a sound bar.
@@TaylorBrauer Damn, they should have included speakers. Or at least an audio jack. I don't like to play with headphone's all the time. So the only way sound is going to work is with a eArc hdmi sound bar?
Why does the Apple Studio display look better than the AW3225QF in terms of contrast? Is it really better, or is it just the camera angle? Shouldn't OLED offer better picture quality than the Apple Studio display?
It's the camera and lighting making it appear that way. The OLED has better contrast and the ASD has better resolution. However, I find it hard to see differences between the 4k and 5k resolutions, personally.
@@nickcyurs6248 I can't comment on a flat 32" since I haven't experienced one, yet. The curve on the Alienware doesn't bother me at all and I do everything on this monitor. On occasion, when I switch back to my ASD (27"), the flatness of it is disorienting.
Funny you should put the Apple Studio Display into the video, as I'm replacing mine with a MSI 321URX soon. (Need the usb-c PD and KVM, so the AW3225QF is not a good fit).
This monitor is def getting into ASD territory so figured I'd lob it in with the rest. That sounds like a great monitor. Stop by and let us know what you think of the MSI, if you'd like. Have a good one!
Going to buy a new monitor VERY soon. I want 4K UHD, and I THOUGHT I wanted ultrawide or super ultrawide. Will be gaming primarily on Star Citizen. Having a really tough time deciding between 57" Neo G9, 49" OLED G9, AW3423DW....or this new AW3225QF. Also looked at Odyssey Ark Gen 2, but its huge and not OLED. Video card is 4070Ti with Ryzen 9 7950X. 64GB RAM. Help?
That's a tough decision. The aw3225qf isn't an ultra-wide. Since it sounds like that's what you really value and you want 4k then, you might want to wait a while for new releases. Try to see some in stores, if you're able to. This will give you a much better perspective and might convince you one way or another. Good luck!
Did you notice any vibrating vertical lines on this monitor at 60Hz in dark scenes? I had them on the AW2725DF, so I returned it, and now I’m wondering if this monitor has the same issue.
Vibrating vertical lines? No, I don't recall ever seeing them. When you say 60Hz do you mean like you manually set the montior to 60Hz in Windows and then experienced the lines in games?
@@TaylorBrauer I noticed it when I was playing with VRR enabled at 60 fps. It was also very noticeable when watching Netflix because the app runs at 48 Hz. I could even notice it on the desktop in gray areas when manually setting it to 60 Hz in windows.
@@TaylorBrauer I was browsing Reddit and found only a few posts mentioning that it's an issue with the new QD-OLEDs. However, I couldn't find this information specifically for this model. Could you try switching Windows to 60Hz and check some darker colors at lower brightness to see if this monitor has this problem? I wouldn't want to buy this monitor only to return it later due to the same issue as with the AW2725DF.
It's YT. Compression plus lower frame rate doesn't give it a real life comparison. Maybe it's time YT started offering higher bitrate and frame rates for premium. *shouts at the sky*
The short answer is, yes a 4070 will absolutely work with fps games. The long answer is, it depends on the game you’re playing, the other hardware you’re running, and your expectations. I would thoroughly research what performance you can get out of the 4070 for the games you’re playing before deciding if this monitor is right for you.
That is a tough question. I can only speak to the QD OLED and I love it. I'd check out Optimum's video on the LG for a great breakdown, if you haven't already. He makes some comparisons between it and QD OLED.
@@TaylorBrauer Yeah. I've got the dwf uwqhd monitor. I do like the 21:9 aspect ratio, but I do wish it had a slightly denser pixel grid. I typically cheat and use dsr, though.
Personally, yeah. 4K instead of 1440p (ultrawide), 3rd gen QD OLED instead of 1st gen, 16:9 aspect ratio, 240Hz instead of 165Hz, same 3yr burn in warranty.
@@TaylorBrauer Thank you! I'm using LG C3 42" right now as my monitor and I'm afraid 32" might be too small. For non-gamers, AW32 or AW34 do you think is better for web browsing and watching TH-cam content?
@@pinkdesire82 The 34 is ultra wide so it’s 34” diagonal. Since this measurement is the same for the 32, the 32 is taller since it isn’t as wide. So, the 32 actually feels larger than the 34 even though it’s not as wide. Being that the 32 is 4k the PPI (Pixels per inch) is greater than the 34 and therefore it’s going to have a better image. There’s also a lot of media that doesn’t take advantage of the 34s ultra wide aspect ratio so it’ll have bars on the side.
It's not as convenient as the Apple Studio Display's single usb-c cable. However, it's only one more cable and I don't find it really having an affect on how I use the monitor day to day.
I think I’m gonna try the same panel from another company. The MSI version. It has PD90W.. are you planning to test that one as well? And it has flat panel :)
@@mduijm That sounds like it might be a better fit for you. I think there's also an ASUS one that has DP Alt and PD 90W, but I don't recall the name. I'm probably going to stick with this monitor and I'm sure there's going to be plenty of reviewers who will cover the one you end up with. Let us know what you decide, if you'd like to share.
@@TaylorBrauer There shouldn't be any tearing at low refresh rates if there's no vsync, maybe if there's extreme frametime swings which there weren't any. Did you check if LFC is working correctly? When the monitor's refresh rate drops below the minimum VRR window it should multiply the refresh number to be evenly divisible by the closest native VRR. So if it's 30 fps it should display that it's working at 60hz, otherwise LFC isn't working.
@@TaylorBrauer I don't know how it shows on that model, but on my current monitor I just have to press the menu key and it shows the current refresh rate. This is very important to know if LFC is working, or if VRR is working at all! Please reply to me once you have figured it out. Thanks!
@@clayfjr3135 That's awesome! What was the experience like going from a 48" to 32"?
Well, I have them both in a dual monitor set up, and having both is great. Quality and quantity!
How do you set a custom resolution? Like 3840x1600 so I can still have ultrawide, is it possible? I see some people say you can’t

I feel your pain. The EU delivery times suck but it's worth the wait. I ordered today myself.
@@josh-bodnarWhy is worse than others Dell 4K?
The reason you can’t change presets with HDR on is because the presets don’t change how HDR looks. They only change the appearance of SDR.
Finally someone testing it with a Mac.... I use both PC for gaming and Mac for school and work... And no one talked about Mac use on this... Thank you

I owned an Alienware laptop and their warranty is amazing. They sent a technician to my home a couple of time.
Their laptop warranties are really good. The price can be a little intimidating. Pro tip though, the warranty prices are negotiable.
i love how you demonstrated the un-runnability of 4k at the same time, which is probably the biggest concern I have with it.
Absolutely - in fact, i think only a 5090 will keep up with it properly.

Which looks better in your view, AW3225QF or the MacBook Pro screen? Specially HDR games or videos.
The picture quality of the Apple monitor in the intro just blows the other two out of the watter
haha, yeah it does! 5k at 27" is like 218 ppi. That is seriously hard to beat. Now, if Apple dropped in a QD-OLED in there, whew. I can dream.

They really are! It’s a great time for gaming hardware.
Hi! Thank you for this!
I have two questions, would appreciate if you would answer. :)
@@TaylorBrauer thank you!!
Nice! thanks very good review. its the brightness level that's my concern. i sometimes like to work in a bright room. But the colors seems spectacular on this thing.
Yw! I'm glad you liked it. I totally get that concern and I should probably touch on that a bit. The colors are one of the best parts.
OLED has no blur or smearing compared to LCD. TN is best, IPS can be good, VA is mediocre. OLED beats all with ease.

It's the right decision if you enjoy it.

In my experience, I haven't heard the fan(s) once. I put my ear up to the vent to make sure it was running and it silenty whirs away. I'm going to be keeping a close eye on any issues that arise with a possible follow up video after long term use. Thanks, I appreciate that!
Is the firmware really as bad as the internet makes it sound? Did the update correct anything?
I never experienced any issues on the original firmware outside of the gamma not updating when changed issue. Best to update to get all the latest fixes.
How did your color accuracy measurements compare to the factory calibration sheet? Did you have a spike on Red3?
I did have a spike in Red3. I just released a video on color settings for the monitor where I showcase my color sheet.
Thank you for this review, do you know if we can run this monitor in 1440p if the game is going too low on FPS ?
Yw! Yep, you can manually set the res lower if you'd like.
Seeing the price for any of these monitors, really... *HERTZ!*
How do you mean?
Considering how things were a couple of years ago... these really aren't bad, there has kind been a revolution with monitors. They were trying to sell LCD 4k 32inch 144hz LCDs for like 2x the price of this. It seems like finally high end monitors are coming back down to reality in line with TVs rather than being ridiculously overpriced.

There's a period of time where there's a no questions asked return policy so make use of it, if you need it. With that being said, I hope it arrives to you in good condition and you love it. Thank you! I really appreciate that. I'll be hanging onto the Studio Display, for now. I'll use it for work (coding) since it's so clear and works wonderfully with the Mac. I'll have no issue parting ways with it if Apple has a compelling follow up.

How is the sharpness compared to the retina screen?
Noticably less sharp. However, it's not deal-breaker noticable, imo. The different in sharpness coming from the aw3423dwf at 110ppi is way more noticable. There's not a lot of monitors on the market hitting 218 ppi and above like the Apple displays achieve.
@@TaylorBrauer My 8K Dell UP3218K recently broke which has a 280 ppi. It is now unavailable and the closest thing to it in terms of ppi is the apple displays.
I'm wondering if the QD-Oled tech goodness justifies the lower ppi of 140.

I haven't.
Thanks for this I neeees it!!
Yw!
Do you note the text fringing? Specifically the pink hueue from fonts on either windows or macos?
It's not noticable on this monitor. If you get right up to the screen you can notice it, but you really have to be pixel peeping at that point.
4k Dlss with a 3080 ti ?
100 fps Not more
I will get it when t drops in my country... should be available in Europe in a week or so.
Finally, a curved OLED that isn't ultrawide.
Right?! This one is nice too. Not too curved and not too flat.
just got mines . it's an endgame all in one monitor.
Congrats! It def seems like it can do it all. Enjoy!
Its a great monitor, only thing missing was USB-C with PowerDelivery for MAC. The Asus model does have it though.
Agreed, that PD port would have been so nice.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t support 1440p on consoles.
how are the blacks in person? im only asking because i noticed the monitor screen isnt fully black when off, its like a hazy maroon or purple, its not just deep black. not sure if thats from recording or what
All OLEDs will have a grey tint when exposted to bright light.
@@TaylorBrauer Was looking at the Ivanky Fusion pro for the mac and just put the ps5 directly into monitor? thanks again man!
@@eriklarson3678 yeah you could do that too. I have mine connected to it via that DisplayPort to Usbc cable.
Did you have HDR true black or HDR peak 1000 in the MW2 footage? whenever I go turn HDR on in MW2 my brightness lowers which is weird
I use Dolby Vision for MW2 to remedy that low brightness dip. That low brightness you're experiencing is completely normal btw. CoD doesn't seem to have a great HDR map and it causes a lot of things to be dark unnecessarily.
how bad are the blacks on this generation of qd-oled? they still seem greyish+magenta in well lit room? is it distracting?
In direct sunlight or in super bright rooms the panel will start to grey. This is the nature of all OLEDs, unfortunately. In medium to dark rooms everything is still very black. In a completely dark room you just have to avoid fingerprints because you'll want to live in this monitor, hehe.
@@TaylorBrauer GREAT…no W-oleds ( oleds from lg) do not have this greyish+magenta blacks in bright rooms but it has other down sides, would you recommend this monitor to me for professional color grading?

Got some bad screen tearing on Alan wake 2 I can’t wait to play this game on my 4090 with full ray tracing and this monitor bet it looks amazing!
@@TaylorBrauer That you much brother. Appreciate it. Keep in the light. Stay safe.
@@phoenixexploration3301.1 yw!
Would you use the hdmi or display port ?
Either one works fine as they are the exact same spec. Same res, same refresh rate, same VRR, same DSC. The only difference being the HDMI fits other devices like consoles so depending on your devices, hdmi could be more versatile.
Do you still thinking this the best 4k 32 oled? My main used is pc and consoles, no work office, some movies. Is in sale for $1099
It’s hard to say this AW is the best one.
I’d replace! Try using a high end hdmi and reset the monitor and make sure auto hdr and hdr is on! If it’s still noticeable replace it
Dude ! How did you get my background? Reddit?

I know it's a monitor more for games. But would there really be any problems with burn-in if I were to use the monitor exclusively as an office monitor?
Burn in is going to happen at some point. Regardless, I'm using mine for office work 8 hours a day.
So the usb type c port does not output video to the macbook? I hoped it could be charging and sending video output.
It does neither. You'll have to charge your MacBook separately.

@TaylorBrauer ok. Well atleast I know. Going to check out your other vids now to make sure I have the latest updates
What are you using for sound? This is only thing from keeping me from buying.

I'm not sure on the specifics of what you'd need but there's probably a solution out there.
Which is the one on the middle...???
That's the Apple Studio Display.
@@TaylorBrauer Do you prefer a curved or flat screen on a 32-inch monitor?
@@nickcyurs6248 I can't comment on a flat 32" since I haven't experienced one, yet. The curve on the Alienware doesn't bother me at all and I do everything on this monitor. On occasion, when I switch back to my ASD (27"), the flatness of it is disorienting.

Going to buy a new monitor VERY soon. I want 4K UHD, and I THOUGHT I wanted ultrawide or super ultrawide. Will be gaming primarily on Star Citizen.
I wouldn't want to buy this monitor only to return it later due to the same issue as with the AW2725DF.
o and when playing with MW2 it did look a bit fuzzy when turning around.. is this due to YT or also in real life?
It's YT. Compression plus lower frame rate doesn't give it a real life comparison. Maybe it's time YT started offering higher bitrate and frame rates for premium. *shouts at the sky*
Would a Geforce 4070 be able to run this, mainly fps games, or just stick with a oled 1440?
The short answer is, yes a 4070 will absolutely work with fps games. The long answer is, it depends on the game you’re playing, the other hardware you’re running, and your expectations. I would thoroughly research what performance you can get out of the 4070 for the games you’re playing before deciding if this monitor is right for you.

@TaylorBrauer Do you think the AW3225QF is worth over $400 price difference of the aw3423dwf?
There’s also a lot of media that doesn’t take advantage of the 34s ultra wide aspect ratio so it’ll have bars on the side.
dont you miss a USB C to C connection with PD so your mac will be charged when used?

Why is there tearing @ 6:17 doesn't this monitor have LFC??? That's a huge deal breaker.
The game is running at 30fps without vsync. So, there's going to be tearing in those situations.
