oh so that's why, back in the day I used to play mkds a lot on my fat DS and the "vroom vroom yahoo" was stuck in my mind forever, when I got the game again recently and was playing on my 3DS and it did the "here we go" I kept wondering if maybe the intro was going to change when I unlocked everything or something
Weird history with this one. Apparently Nintendo planned for “here we go” to only play on the special edition red OG DS bundled with Mario Kart DS at one point, which was on a different version of software compared to the other fat DS’s, but that software kept getting used as more DS systems get made, so that’s why most people remember “here we go” over “yahoo”.
There was once a weird thing that happened, it said “yahoo” on my 3ds! I was quite confused, but the next time i booted it up it said “here we go” as usual.
something to note about the DS Download Play option is that the game data must be downloaded onto the cartridge-less system, so the limited amount of content stems from the need to reduce the amount of data needed to be downloaded
also, though i'm less sure about this, the amount of data that DS Download Play can hold is pretty limited as well, since iirc it's stored in a rather small portion of memory until the console is turned off
Yea a friend pointed that out to me, google docs never rewords it for that specific word so it kept slipping by sometimes. Gotta double check on my wording sometimes.
Little corrections to throw in: "Items" stat's only purpose is the number of shrooms you start with in Time trial, nothing else. Notice however how that stat is consistently bound to the wheel size of a kart: bigger wheels = more weight and more TT shrooms, but worse in all other stats. Yes, you can hold the L button to drag an item behind you, or do a single press for triple items. The same system as Wii and 7! While you can't directly choose your teams in VS mode, you can try again by going back to your kart selection and get a different pattern.
To add to this, I remember being able to use button combinations with L and R that let you move random characters on the teams, including other players.

This was an amazing video! Hope to see you do the rest of the series. I think one issue with the playability of this game is similar to Smash 4. MKDS and Smash 4 are both games that lead to the modern incarnations of their respective series, and both games do have unique content...but that unique content isn't enough to make you want to go through the hassle of going back. It's far easier to just play MK8DX or Smash Ultimate and you get that modern Mario Kart feeling, or if you want an older experience you go to MKDD for a completely different experience or 64 for the retro factor. MKDS is just sort of the awkward middle child of the MK family.
honestly, about the rant at the end, i feel about the same. so it's not *nothing* (except i didn't play mario kart super circuit and double dash until **VERY** recently, in fact still haven't finished them yet fully). yes mkds is good, i agree that everyone should play it once and complete everything the game has to offer
also for the online mode, i was able to try it out two weeks before the official wfc closure, and later on wiimmfi. honestly you weren't missing much especially if you didn't have friends or contacts to play mkds online with. it's laggy, mny tracks aren't here and really it's does the job in the simplest way possible, don't mind the online mode really it's more like a nice bonus.
I never played this game online because the online on non-DSI compatible DS games kinda sucked hard, being locked to unsecure connections. I also never had friends to play games with, so oof. I loved this game but would often go back to Double Dash back I in the day for my Mario Kart fix. Loved the game, but I was really excited to play online since I rarely got to play with friends. When the game came out, online was fun and felt like normal Mario Kart. Once snaking was discovered, it spread like wildfire. Every room had at least one snaker minimum and it quickly became snake or lose. I did learn how to snake as it wasn’t hard pick someone and run dry bomber or egg 1 (I think standard ys was the third) but I wasn’t a fan of being forced to play that way so I just stuck to offline play after about 2-3 months.
I 100% this game about 15 years ago and decided to play through all of it again recently. Couldnt finish 50cc cups as I felt way too bored. It's a good game for its time (and for kids), but didnt age well
I was never able to connect with any of my friends using the DSI. I could only ever play with them locally, and it sucked because the damn DSI guide thingy on the system said some shit like "you can play with friends who are near, *or far away* "
Outside of the graphics looking a bit rough and showing it's age by modern standards, this game has aged gracefully. Why Nintendo decided to port Mario Kart 8 to Switch over Mario Kart DS is beyond me since Mario Kart DS is the superior game.
okay, around 4:00, i noticed you said something along the lines of "this game is one of two games on the ds that have 8 player multiplayer" and i know for a fact that isn't true. not sure if this counts, but there's a game series that was bought out by sega around the VERY early 2000's called Puyo Puyo. though most of its releases were japan-only, some games released on the ds AND featured 8 player content, which you COULD actually play multiplayer locally.
I think Mario Kart DS was just not as charming as Double Dash or Super Circuit perhaps. This is coming from someone who has ONLY played Mario Kart DS. It is my favourite by default and I replay it often but it hasn’t got much spontaneity or wow factor.
I just can't get behind the MKDS retro selection. There are too many circuits (even if there are good ones like GBA Luigi and GCN Yoshi) i mean, you have SNES Mario 1, GBA Peach AND GCN Luigi in the same cup! It's awful! There are also boring beginner courses like N64 Moo Moo Farm and SNES Donut Plains 1. From there, a lot of the good courses they chose simply came back in the wrong time. GCN Baby Park is horrible. GBA Bowser Castle 2 and SNES Choco Island 2 whilst great retro choice picks are ruined by the games physics with lack of tricking and the absolutely awful air physics DS has. (Seriously, GBA BC2's boosts slow you down so much that its painful) Despite this, there are great choices for retro tracks. SNES Koopa Beach 2 whilst having the potential for an amazing future remake plays good here unlike GBA BC2 and SNES CI2 N64 outside of Moo Moo is solid GBA Luigi Circuit and Sky Garden were banger picks (wish sky garden would get an 8 remake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) GCN Mushroom Bridge and Yoshi Circuit are also great picks. But when you compare that to 7 with its back to back bangers, its no contest. DS easily has the worst retros, then Wii, then 8, then 7, then 8DX
about mario kart ds replayability my take is while the controls feels good, the speed not so much, is weird mario kart ds feels slow compared to advance, advance you get adrenaline, mario kart ds is for having a good time, is slow, it takes his times, heck getting hit by something that is a bomb doesn't feel impactful, like i know i am supposed to get slower but the spinning is slow, is a slow mario kart game, is a definitely unique in a very goid way, i love the karts, they are genuinely one of best to this day in series, i love seeing them comeback with a higher polygon count in tour, i dont think Mario kart ds is not so fun becuse is mario kart ds, becuse Mario kart ds has so many good ideias for the series, being kart, track or side modes i think mario kart ds is not fun becuse the ds slows is him down but know but literally could be just me experience, becuse i didn't play mario kart ds on the ds, played on emulator, so i am wondering if was actually the emulator who was slowing down the ds, is been so much time after all, the NOTEBOOK as probably not that great or maybe even the emulator but genuinely, missons modes need to be explored, either by the missons or the boss battle (like you could make kart game with this being the main focus,it is genuinely so creative)
you actually can play online using a specific DNS address (fan servers) and a mobile hotspot (cos DS doesn't support modern wifi standards). tho just like during it's peak, all you'll face is sweaty ass snakers thinking they're Taiga or MKDasher lmao
...though still running the same about bit-total as its predecessor, the Game Boy Advance, that being 32, it could technically be argued to be a 64 bit handheld due to its double processors within the system... Uh... no? Not at all. Bits have much more to do with memory than CPU performance, where how many bits a number has corresponds to how many values that number could be. The DS is no more capable of tracking numbers outside of 32-bit integers than the GBA would be.
I have this game on Twilight(the DS emulator) and I've tried to local play with another 3ds(that doesn't have the game) and the connection always breaks. It'll act like it's going to work when I see MKDS on the other 3ds but it always ends up being a dud.
Here's a fun fact for ya: on the opening logo, Mario says "yahoo!" On original, fat DS models, but he says "here we go!" On DS Lite models.
Beat me to it!
oh so that's why, back in the day I used to play mkds a lot on my fat DS and the "vroom vroom yahoo" was stuck in my mind forever, when I got the game again recently and was playing on my 3DS and it did the "here we go" I kept wondering if maybe the intro was going to change when I unlocked everything or something

I played hours of this game and could never do gold medal on all
"could be argued to be a 64-bit console"... nope, that's not how that works ahah

I miss download play!
Mario Kart DS was amazing!
And Mario Kart 7 was great on the 3DS
great video
They also added R.O.B. in Mario Kart DS
Mario Kart DS has the absolute best Tracks from the entire series, except Mario Kart 8.
Hi Luigi Lito
Sup Trashii
great video Will you be making a video for all Mario karts
Yes, wii may take a while since I have some promises to fulfill beforehand
okay, around 4:00, i noticed you said something along the lines of "this game is one of two games on the ds that have 8 player multiplayer" and i know for a fact that isn't true.
not sure if this counts, but there's a game series that was bought out by sega around the VERY early 2000's called Puyo Puyo. though most of its releases were japan-only, some games released on the ds AND featured 8 player content, which you COULD actually play multiplayer locally.
Should've specified that I meant 1 of 2 games in the series to supports up to 8 players in terms of local/on spot multiplayer.
@@LuigiLitoLL OOOOOOOH okay, i was thinking "does he mean in the series? wasn't exactly clear"
thank you for the clarification
I think Mario Kart DS was just not as charming as Double Dash or Super Circuit perhaps. This is coming from someone who has ONLY played Mario Kart DS. It is my favourite by default and I replay it often but it hasn’t got much spontaneity or wow factor.

WHAAT
THERE IS
I FEEL LIKE IM BEING GASLIT BUT I GOTTA TRY THUD
(Seriously, GBA BC2's boosts slow you down so much that its painful)
Despite this, there are great choices for retro tracks.
SNES Koopa Beach 2 whilst having the potential for an amazing future remake plays good here unlike GBA BC2 and SNES CI2
N64 outside of Moo Moo is solid
GBA Luigi Circuit and Sky Garden were banger picks (wish sky garden would get an 8 remake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
GCN Mushroom Bridge and Yoshi Circuit are also great picks.
But when you compare that to 7 with its back to back bangers, its no contest. DS easily has the worst retros, then Wii, then 8, then 7, then 8DX
Is possible to dodge the blue shell with a well timed mini turbo.
You should do more than one take
great video but for the love of god please stop saying irregardless. it's not a word
Super Mario 64 DS is more detailed than the 35th Mario anniversary switch version of it. Let that sink in
DS was a remake and the Switch version was a “remaster” that is honestly just a port with minor touchups.
about mario kart ds replayability my take is
while the controls feels good, the speed not so much, is weird mario kart ds feels slow compared to advance, advance you get adrenaline, mario kart ds is for having a good time, is slow, it takes his times, heck getting hit by something that is a bomb doesn't feel impactful, like i know i am supposed to get slower but the spinning is slow, is a slow mario kart game, is a definitely unique in a very goid way, i love the karts, they are genuinely one of best to this day in series, i love seeing them comeback with a higher polygon count in tour, i dont think Mario kart ds is not so fun becuse is mario kart ds, becuse Mario kart ds has so many good ideias for the series, being kart, track or side modes
i think mario kart ds is not fun becuse the ds slows is him down
but know but literally could be just me experience, becuse i didn't play mario kart ds on the ds, played on emulator, so i am wondering if was actually the emulator who was slowing down the ds, is been so much time after all, the NOTEBOOK as probably not that great or maybe even the emulator
but genuinely, missons modes need to be explored, either by the missons or the boss battle (like you could make kart game with this being the main focus,it is genuinely so creative)
you actually can play online using a specific DNS address (fan servers) and a mobile hotspot (cos DS doesn't support modern wifi standards). tho just like during it's peak, all you'll face is sweaty ass snakers thinking they're Taiga or MKDasher lmao
...though still running the same about bit-total as its predecessor, the Game Boy Advance, that being 32, it could technically be argued to be a 64 bit handheld due to its double processors within the system...
Uh... no?
Emulated DS multiplayer is still a big WiP across the board. MelonDS seems to be pretty close to perfecting it tho.
If you mean nds-bootstrap, it's a hypervisor, not an emulator.
There's certain settings you need for multiplayer to work.
Dope

Speak louder or turn your mic volume up
I love MKDS. But its been made obsolete by MK8D.
Bro needs better English XD
What did he mean by this???
