The 2023 Toyota bZ4x Limited Is A Likable Fully Electric Family SUV

  • After years of not having a dedicated all-electric car, #Toyota goes all in with the 2023 #bZ4X. This oddly named RAV4 sized electric SUV is built on a scalable skateboard battery platform that was co-developed with Subaru. It comes with either single or dual motor options, offers up to 252 miles of range on a full charge, and is now the least expensive way to get AWD in a fully electric long range SUV. The 2023 #ToyotabZ4X goes on sale next month at a base price of just $42,000.

    Toyota’s first fully dedicated electric vehicle doesn’t look good on paper, but after driving both the Solterra and the BZ4X, they both drive a lot better in the real world. It feels a lot quicker on the road, rides nicely, has ton of space inside, and finally has good tech. We’re not sure why the Toyota version is lacking some features found in the Solterra Touring, but we find this car to be a lot more pleasant than the VW ID.4, the Mach E, EV6, and Ioniq5 are more competitive, but the Toyota is less expensive.

      I don't mind my 2002's acceleration. 0-60 is about 13 seconds, but the electric motor has 260 lb-ft of torque, so it's got some pretty surprising kick from 0-30, which takes 3 seconds. The accelerator response is absolutely linear and instant, which Toyota dulled down in the later Prii to make them feel more smooth and efficient.

      Yeah I don't really need either one. Rear wipers practically useless in rain. might be useful in snow. Causes all kinds of aerodynamic drag. Although I have seen one car hide it on the top under a small air spoiler.
      If they've worked out the aerodynamics correctly, water will probably just run off of the rear glass. If you use wax or Rain-X on it particularly stuff tends to just blow right off.

    Is the price accurate? $42000 for base model? Coz i had been looking into some web pages, they are selling at $55000 US in English and Europe area.

    • @juanzingarello4005
      @juanzingarello4005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably because of demand. In Europe electric vehicles have more demand than in the US. Here in the US they still have to convince people to change to electric. Even with higher gas prices, many ICE cars are much more fuel efficient than they were back in the early 2000s so people aren’t so willing to switch over. But $42k for a base Toyota is still a bit steep. They still need to come down more in price.

    Another great review! I like the styling of the BZ4X better, except for those hideous black panels on the front. The interior is nice except for the instrument cluster design and placement. I believe the slower charging rate will result in a longer battery lifespan.

    4:14 - "sadly"? I'm glad that the glass roof doesn't open ... just another headache to worry about (parts breaking; more chances for roof leaks; crap coming in while roof glass is open), and there's really little useful air that comes in, anyway, from opening sunroofs... Toyota designed this and most of the rest of the car quite well; the lack of a glove compartment is really stupid, however, as is the placement of the instrument panel and the lack of a rear-window wiper (all of these combined being likely deal-breakers for me and for many others)... Totally agree with you about the rear badging (5:20) -- I'd like to see all chrome badging removed on all cars, and what badging there is to be black-only (or same color as car paint); there's absolutely no need to show trim level (i.e., "Limited", in this case) -- who cares??? The other thing that I wish that all BEV makers would have is the placement of a full-sized spare wheel in the frunk.

How much pollution was created making that stack of batteries. Where does the material.come from and do I have a dependency on enemies for it? Just a few concerns.

    I’m curious as to why these legacy auto makers aren’t coming up with more clever storage solutions that an electric platform provides? Seems like Tesla and Porsche are the only ones taking advantage of smaller packaging of electric motors to give a front trunk or more cargo capacity in general

      Front trunk is overrated. It's like when iPhones came out with the notch and it wowed everyone but now it's looking long in the tooth. Who would use it on a everyday basis since it requires a 2 step process to open it and the hood is heavy. Just open the back trunk instead since it's a one step process and easy to open. It's only really needed in rear mounted ICE engine cars.
