    We are a travel couple, looking for a non-mainstream life of living aboard a boat and cruising in the Caribbean/Bahamas in Winter, and the Great Lakes in Summer. Working when we can to fill the cruising kitty. We have sold everything we own, and we now own a cruising yacht. We have chosen to do this voyaging in a powerboat/motor vessel, instead of the popular sailing route.
    Our mission is to help inspire people to live their dreams earlier in life, instead of waiting until retirement. So often retirement dreams are dashed by health issues or other unforeseen later life circumstances. If you have a dream, then dream, plan, and do it now. We hope to make you smile, and spark the yearning in your heart for fulfilling your dreams.

    1. Introducing me to the band Wild: Here We Go....my new theme song! Seriously meaningful,
    2. I watched an update during the china virus when you were in Canada, and you were not sure about your return to the boat. I have been enjoying the updates from video footage last year, do you see a light at the end of the covid tunnel to return to the boat and resume your adventures? Just curious and yes, still following.
    3. The Bahamas escape was right on target with what I would have done. Well done and do what is best for you!

    Love all your videos! So exciting and refreshing! I'm presently looking at a 44 Tolly like yours and would like your opinion on fuel consumption. It has Caterpillar 3208TA and I'm a sailor so would probably cruise the boat at 8 knots. What's your estimate for gallons per hour at that speed? Thanks Dan Engstrom Seattle here

      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Dan! So nice of you to say. You should find the answers to your questions in this video, th-cam.com/video/QpNBt0L9ww0/w-d-xo.html

    • @danengstrom1
      @danengstrom1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much, I did watch the video and then watched it again. I have a certain level of comfort knowing that your boat burns about 3.11 gallons per hour for the 44 Tollycraft. The boat I am looking to buy has the same exact engines as yours. As a sailboat sailor I am not used to burning more than one gallon an hour for my 40 foot Jeanneau. Considering all the real estate that is in a 44 foot motor boat that is acceptable. Thanks

  • @jwyzdm

    Discussing navigating the islands gave me the impression it is simply the 1000 islands on steroids. Although with a lot warmer water. The 1000 islands seem to have been a good training area for you.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 1000 islands were good stepping stone for sure, but the Bahamas can be a bit more tricky. Remember the Bahamas, and the Exumas in particular have wide open ocean (Bank/Sound) on either side of the island chains. Weather can cause havoc. In the 1000 Islands, the worst of weather can be accommodated. Plus add in the tides, currents through the cuts, coral heads, and hardly no navigation bouys whatsoever, and it can be intimating the first time through.

  • @CarlSchaefer

    Love your channel! We also own a 1991 Tollycraft 44 CPMY and hope to one day get to the Bahamas. I’m curious about the duration of the trip from Florida to the Bahamas and from the Bahamas back to Florida? What is your cruising speed/RPM and fuel burn?

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Carl! What engines do you have in your Tolly? This video should answer your questions, th-cam.com/video/QpNBt0L9ww0/w-d-xo.html

    • @CarlSchaefer
      @CarlSchaefer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SearchingforCShels , we have 6V53 TI Detroit Diesels. I know you have Cats but I suspect our fuel burn is similar.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear that the Detroits are harder on fuel than the Cats in this boat. Not sure it would be enough to worry about.
      I'm sorry, I read your original question wrong. I thought it said from Canada to the Bahamas, not Florida to the Bahamas. It isn't long. We travel at 8 knots and we do it in 7 hours or so, if we are going from Lake Worth to West End. IF we are going from Lauderdale to Bimini it's more like 5 or 6 hours. We have lunch in Bimini sometimes after leaving FL.

      A Paralizer tip for Lionfish
      Anything barbed for lobster, but it may be best to use a Tail Snare. This way if they are too small or egg bearing you can let them go.
      The best thing I've purchased, that you won't see in the videos yet, is a Slip Tip. This has been a game changer for me.

    Hello...I just ordered the same davit system you have. How do you like it? Any tricks or modifications I should plan for? Have you thought about adding a 12volt winch? My wife and I have been following you for 3 yrs. we finally bought a 380 Tiara open a year ago. We have a 11 ft zodiac with a 25 hpr to hand on the davit. Maybe we will see you on the ICW or Bahamas some day. Our boats name is Sea Dawg.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sea Dawg! We like the davit. Our only complaint is that it rides low on our swimplatform, we have to keep it low because of the helm. Sometimes a following sea can pick it up and drop it on the chains. Doesn't happen often. Yes, I think we will be adding a winch this season. Good luck with the boat. Let us know how you like the davit. See you on the water!

    Sorry guys, not a fan of the fishing. Reef fish species are generally on the decline as a result of over and indiscriminate fishing. Unfortunately this effects the whole reef ecosystem. Most of the fish caught by free diving are of a larger size which are usually females who of course are the breeders and being a reef fish once they're gone , well there aren't any left. Sometimes too much of a good thing ends up being a bad thing. The motto should be the least foot print on the environment as possible. Not saying you guys are plundering or ravaging the reef fish population but just think people should understand that there needs to be a balance. By the way I do like my fishing but I'm a catch, kiss and release kind of guy.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We appreciate your passion here Ralf. I (Shel) was 100% vegan before a few years ago, when I added fish back into my diet. I only eat what I catch, which is far and few between. I don't eat farmed fish or fish from commercial fisheries unless it is small and local fishery supporting locals livelihood in the Bahamas.
      We understand balance, and will consider what you are saying. We wouldn't need much push to go back to 100% vegan, but at this point feel our impact is so minimal, and our impressions of the reefs we fish seem pretty healthy. One of the joys of living as we do in remote islands in the Bahamas is we have access to plenty of free fresh seafood. We will continue to weigh your concerns, and I'm sure Cyndi and I will be talking about our impacts in the future as we have done many times in the past. Cheers Ralf.
