    We are a travel couple, looking for a non-mainstream life of living aboard a boat and cruising in the Caribbean/Bahamas in Winter, and the Great Lakes in Summer. Working when we can to fill the cruising kitty. We have sold everything we own, and we now own a cruising yacht. We have chosen to do this voyaging in a powerboat/motor vessel, instead of the popular sailing route.
    Our mission is to help inspire people to live their dreams earlier in life, instead of waiting until retirement. So often retirement dreams are dashed by health issues or other unforeseen later life circumstances. If you have a dream, then dream, plan, and do it now. We hope to make you smile, and spark the yearning in your heart for fulfilling your dreams.

    As you filet down to the fin try stopping before you cut all the way. Then flip the filet over and start from the fin end and cut the filet from the skin. Leaving the filet attached at the end will "anchor " your filet so you can trim it out much easier.

    We had the same thing happen on the ICW on the inside Keys route one time. Our sailboat ran aground in the channel, with me and three of my buddies on it. One guy and I got in the 11 foot Whaler we were towing, to heel it over with a spare halyard to get it loose, while the other two guys stayed on the boat, with all the sails still up. It worked and the same exact thing happened to us as you guys. It started dragging us backwards and the whole Whaler went under water while we frantically trying to cut the tow line and my friend David at the helm of the sailboat was laughing like a madman at us. When we cut it, the Whaler surfaced with about four inches of freeboard, but the funny thing was, that the water inside the boat was level with the tops of the gunnels. It looked pretty bizarre. We pulled the plug, because we didn't have a bailer, and just sat there watching the water going down and laughing ourselves. They aren't kidding about Whalers being unsinkable! As we were sitting there, Tommy (the guy with me) and I both kept saying, "Nobody is going to believe this story." Your video really made me laugh, remembering that day! Thanks!

    In your last video you were at Crab Key (sp?). Would you consider this area a good hideout/shelter from hurricanes? Great easy going videos! We love watching to escape from the crapola that goes on that sooo many are trapped in! LoL.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Glad we can help you escape. 😀 The holding at Crab Cay is phenomenal, however most of the land around it is low lying. So wind protection is not there. You can get really nice wind protection from the east in one spot there but when the wind clocks it will have you close to shore. If I had no where else to go, I guess I would go there to wait out a hurricane, but I think if you could get into one of the "hurricane" holes at Stocking Island over by Chat n Chill you would be more protected. Cheers, thanks for the question.

    Another great episode. Do either of you have a fear of sharks? I notice you do a fair bit of spearfishing and even dove under your boat knowing there was a bull shark there. If it does worry you how do you deal with it? What would you say to someone that would love to do what you do but have a fear of sharks. Thanks!

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I guess we had a small fear of sharks at the beginning, but the more we got in the water the more we realized they were very rarely around. Nurse sharks are harmless, we will swim with them all day, and most common sharks are just curious if you see them. When you do see them they just come into your vision and then leave. However, if I am spearfishing and have already had a catch, and I see a shark other than a nurse shark, then we are out of the water. I had one shark come at me with a fish on the end of my spear. Nope... However, of all the times we went spearfishing, that only happened once. If we are not spearfishing, we will stay in. Sharks have telltale relaxed and aggressive stances, and you can tell which they are when in the water. We will have a future video on sharks coming in a few weeks. Some very good info will be presented then.

    Very cool discussion about the Lion fish, and another nice video! It appears that you have a Apple TV, so... What do you use for network access? What kind of Cellular data speeds and jitter do you get in the Exumas? Do you use a onboard router? Cradlepoint?

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi guys. Thanks. We will use the local cellular provider, but in this video I think we are on My Island WiFi which is unlimited 4G LTE. We also have a cradlepoint that extends our range a little. We will very rarely pause for buffering unless we are on the edge of coverage.

      @mvdospeces4370 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SearchingforCShels Thanks! I'm always looking for a better solution. Funny... I noticed the Apple TV because of the remote in your video. We use the same model. We also have a cradlepoint router and use KVH's mini Vsat service when out of cellular range. It's expensive but a necessary evil to allow us to be out of cell range and still make a living. we get 2mbps off of the satellite but I really don't like paying the bill for it at 50 cents a meg.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I really have a hard time understanding how vegans can rationalize eating frozen “scientifically” produced food like the “seven grain crispy tenders” while surrounded by the freshest and healthiest seafood. Puzzles me to no end. Read the labels. God created fish without labels on their side. One kazillion fish can’t be wrong

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are just fun vegan foods to eat occasionally. We don't eat that processed food very much. Being vegan isn't just about nutrition, but about sensitivities to animal harm. I love animals including fish, and I actually don't enjoy the taste of seafood, never have. Sheldon otherwise eats plant-based except for fresh fish.
