I'm about to pick DT990 Pro 250 Ohm version for night music making and mixing. I'm only wondering if the soung leakage is as big to be heard through the wall to the next room?
Now walls vary from building to building/place to place, but unless you listen at a very loud and unhealthy level, I'd be very surprised if somebody could hear your headphone leakage through walls. Especially since high frequencies don't have a lot of penetration power. So I think you'll be fine! Hope this helps. Enjoy your DT 990s!
This is the thing I would like to know. With my DT 770 32 ohms I watch movies at 70% volume with MPC-HC (no amp/dac). Now with open backs to have the same intensity of volume do I have to set it above that level or below? I mean do the open backs output same, higher or lower level of decibel compared to closed backs on same volume setting?
Loudness is influenced by the sensitivity/impedance of the drivers (and not by the openness of the cup). In the case of the Beyerdynamics, the DT770 and DT990 80ohms (for example) should be equally as loud, since they share the aforementioned specs. Hope this helps!
Damn it bro. I came here because I want to use the dt 990 for gaming purposes but my girlfriend would be up in my room in a heart beat with all that noise leaking out. Just going to have to keep using my astro a40's with the closed back kit.
I don't think they could be heard through walls (even through paper thin ones). Even if they are open and they leak sound, they are not that loud. You should be fine!
@@odysseyofcuriosity I now have them and your right. I use them at 10 to 20 and nothing rlly leaks much even if there is someone in the room depends on distance. on 50 u can her muffled outside my paper thin walls.
Im going to buy the dt 770 pro black version for my brother and be doesn’t want sound leak, so hopefully the leather ear-cup ones will leak less sound. Any comments?
Hey, I want to get the dt 990s, I will mainly use them for gaming, but at 1am+ gaming will they be to loud? In my house you can hear phone calls though walls.
Even if your walls are thin, I don't think you'll disturb others with your headphones. You'd have to turn them up to some unbearable level for the leakage to match the SPL of a phone conversation. If you're mindful and use a sensible volume (something that's loud but still on the healthy side) you'll be fine! Enjoy them if you end up getting them!
@@odysseyofcuriosity Okay thanks, another quick question what amp would you recommend, I saw your other videos but some links are not in stock anymore, I was recommended the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4 gen for about £175, but I saw that the sound blaster 3 was only £18, its there another amp I should consider.
@@jaz7003 if you only need an amp, I'd recommend a Toping L30II - it's a great one in terms of price/quality and it will work very well with the DT 990 (I own the older model). However, since you've been recommended the Focusrite, I guess you probably need a DAC/AMP combo. If you need inputs (to record stuff) I'd look towards a Motu M2 (works great with all kinds of headphones), otherwise you can get the L30II amp and pair it with a Topping DAC - I have the D10s (one of their "budget" ones) and it's all you realistically need. Prices may vary, but you can check your local stores to see how much such a L30II/D10s combo would add up to. Hope this helps!
@odysseyofcuriosity Hey, sorry for the late reply, I don't need to record/use a mic, I finally decided on the dt 990s & ready to buy, Just want to make sure I should just get the toppings L30II since I don't need to record a mic only using it for headphones. Or would you recommend getting both the topping amp & dac at the same time, just for the headphones.
Andrew, thank you for this video! Do you found similar leak between open like Beyerdyn.and Semi-open like 240akg? (for using at home at night, with other people sleeping in other toom) Grazie mille, ciao Mauro
Hi Mauro. The AKG will leak a tiny bit less, but to be honest I don't think people will hear you from the other room (maybe if you leave the door open, but even so...). You should be fine going with either one. Good luck!
dt 990 is basically just an open back version of the dt 770 i suggest you get the 990 if you want to mix and master but dt 770 if you want an isolated sound
To be honest I'm a big fan of buying them second hand - that's how I got each and every pair in this video. Some were broken (but easy to be fixed) while others (like the Meze) were pretty much brand new, but the seller probably didn't know/care enough and sold them very cheap. If you are lucky and patient, it's quite easy to catch some really good deals - but keep in mind I got all of these over the years. Good luck!
What exactly made you think k240 is a recording headphones, they are open back e.g. perfect for studio mixing and instrument production. Kinda pointless video :)
I was looking for leak test with comparison. Awesome content.
can't believe how underrated you are
True
The thumbnail looks like something that would have 10000+ viewers
To me, the Meze had the best isolation, noticeably more than the M50x
Agreed
Thanks man really needed this info🙌🙌
Happy to help!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a bunch, great work.
The Meze seemed the best at canceling noise, but it might be more noticable since it came after an open back one.

Thanks for quick response. Walls are made of blocks so I think I should be fine. Well, that makes me to go for DT990 Pro 250 Ohm :)
I think you might be off with this one those Neos sound like the clear winner to me lol
how loud do you turned the headphones for this test?

Thank you. Man the Beyers 990 leaks a LOT of sound. I still want them tho, and I do have some privacy in my home (but not 100%) !
That is just false, you cannot even hear my 990 from 15cm.
What a great video
Subbed and liked
Thanks🙌
what volume was the HD598 on and you reckon people can hear with closed door room but paper thin walls

No, there's no chance you'll hear them in the next room with a closed door.
@@odysseyofcuriosity thanks a lot

Yes, the pleather earpads should further increase sound isolation. Good luck and may he enjoy them for many hours!

Hi,Really useful man.thankyo🙏
Glad you found it useful!✌️
I know this video is quite old and you probably won’t answer but gonna try anyways. What volume percentage did you tests all of these at.
I had the volume to where it was loud, but not deafening. Hope this helps!
@@odysseyofcuriosity i see so maybe like 90% or so?
Meze 99 neo winner imo
Exactly, they had way more isolation than the m50x
With the 990 will people outside of my room hear things like party chat and games.
Unless you're blasting your ears with tremendous volume, no, they shouldn't leak that much to be audible outside of your room.
