Does anyone remember the TH-cam before Instagram existed? Makeup Geek was not a brand but was just Marlena’s channel name. When making TH-cam partner was the coolest thing for creators after that was an option. OG creators like: Juicystar07, her sister allthatglitters21, panacea81, Kandee Johnson, gregorygorgeous now Gigigorgeous, petrilude, Myeyeshadowisodd, etc. Glamour Doll Eyes was the popular indie brand. MAC was the brand everyone hoarded and their collections were the best ( Heatherette, Hello Kitty, & Fafi). Then Sigma came along as a cheaper alternative to MAC brushes and even used the same numbers. When Coastal Scents 88 palettes were promoted. OCC lip tars! Temptalia’s blog was everyone’s go-to for reviews (still is for me). Using iMovie’s intro music meant you were super cool because Windows Movie Maker was lame. Back when TH-cams description box was on the side of the video and there was a 5 star rating system?! Anyone remember?... no?... me either.
I remember xsparkage did tons of colorful looks with the 88 matte and 88 shimmer color palettes from coastal scents. I remember when Marlena first introduced makeup geek as a brand with long swatch videos comparing her eyeshadows to mac eyeshadows.

I remember dying to get my hands on the Heatherette collection from MAC, and not understanding how people could own 32 Nars blushes... everyone was talking about Coastal Scents... fond memories.

Omg I have so many:
- Gerard cosmetics? Or whatever it was called before that. So many influences always talked about it b/c they all had like affiliate links and then it died so fast.
- In the real old old times. MAC was like the only lipstick brand people cared about, remember when people would just be like MY MAC LIPSTICK COLLECTION!!! And they had some ugly frosty ass colours too.
- The love people had for the l'oreal true match OG foundation, the one that comes in that ugly glass jar lmfao.
- NARS blush was really popping for a long time before tarte, you didn't have a good blush collection unless you had a few NARS blushes, especially if you didn't have ORGASM what were you doing back then??
- I remember that whole phase where people wanted to be as matte as possible, like no one liked or cared about highlighters, it was all about the matte face and dark bronzers.
- Eyebrow powders being popular and what most people used before the dipbrow and eye pencil thing.
- That whole eye colour trend where there were palettes that came out just for specific eye colours and people were so into it.
- Inglot was a huge thing for a bit b/c you could make your own palettes & they had a nice aesthetic and then people just dropped them lmfao.
- The whole black liner everywhere thing. Like in your waterline, your underline, actually line the lashes, it was just a LOT of black liner lmfao.
The highlight before Becca I remember is The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer! I was always wanting to get that highlight but I was a broke college kid at the time.
I like my Kosas Velvet Melon cream highlight now 😂

instagram makeup definitely got me into youtube tutorials and the two together taught me so much about makeup and skincare. it's still a journey for me to figure out what products work for me for certain seasons and occasions. and I love there's more growth and variety now..slightly less toxicity and more info on products. it's really helpful. and there's so much inspo too

it's AMAZING how far the beauty industry has come - I remember when the first naked palette came out and I was on a waitlist at Sephora for it so they would call me when it arrived... now we have about 47838 palettes being released every week!!

That damn Mac foundation was everywhere and it’s smelled like clay 😂😂😂. As a brown girl that was all you saw and everyone used NC45 😂. MAC was so huge for brown girls because they were the only ones with a good shade range and colors that suited brown skin. I remember that eyebrow pomade I was so angry when mine dried up 🙄
It's the same for super pale girls too. MAC has always had the best range of shades. IMO.
Cynthias stylemua I can totally can see that. Some of my friends who have super fair complexions only found things from MAC, K beauty, and later on fenty. Most things showed up pink on their skin. I’m so glad that there is more diversity in the industry now

But when I first heard her talk about it, I swear I thought she was saying BATTLE LASH, and I was like "how metal!" And then I realized that it was Bat-a-lash, and I felt supes dumb. lol

Mac was absolutely my FAVOURITE back in the day. I still have 7 year old lipsticks that I cant seem to throw away. But I also remember the UD Naked Palettes being everyone’s holy grail back when I first got into instagram. Such different times.

This gave me soooo much nostalgia. I remember Makeup Geek being the biggest thing, I also remember revlon colorstay being the ONLY foundation 90% of people talked about. That was when I started making videos originally and it was so different. I also met you at IMATS which is still one of my favourite memories ever. I’m still all about my abh Ashton liquid lipstick. I don’t wear it like the full caked on dry layer like we all used to. I’ll put on a nice balm and put just a couple dots of the lipstick and blend it out with my finger. It makes such a nice matte stained look that lasts a super long time and looks great with a gloss layered over. Why am I going into this rant about still loving liquid lipstick when everyone else has seemed to abandon it? I don’t know

It's funny what people think of as "back in the day" worthy. I'm a bit older than most of y'all so when I say back in the day, I mean 10-20 years ago. If it was like 5 years ago, I'd probably be like "it was just a couple years ago". Smh, getting old is hell man... 😞😟😢😭

Omg what a trip down memory lane, such a delight. Also so cult classics back then; The Balm marylou-minseer highlight, MAC painterly paint pot and costal scents eyeshadow palettes! I also owned all of the Jaclyn Hill x Gerard cosmetics lipsticks, but sold them all after the scandal, I remember loving them!
Back in my day, the olden days of the 1980s. We had Wet N Wild makeup and cheap ass $1 lipsticks in crappy unflattering colors. But it was one whole dollar. And you got $5 for two weeks worth of school lunches, so you opted for trash makeup. Wild N Wild it was crap but it was cheap crap. When your mom discovered your Wet N Wild blue or horrible fushia lipstick and threw it away and shamed you, you could just sneak off campus during lunch to the local pharmacy and but more cheap Wet N Wild in bad colors for $1. We spent more time perfecting or hair, high bangs, flat middle, curly ends or straight up scared hair fixed with egg white and Aquanet. We kept the hairspray industry alive and thriving. Make up was just there to add to your ode to Robert Smith or Siouxsie Sioux look. Lipstick was to be smeared around your lips, eyeliner was to be used to make you look like a punk rock Egyptian hieroglyph. And we were proud and we looked great until 10 years later we looked back at our middle school and high school yearbooks and wondered why such hideousness did not just burst into flames in these old books of photos.
