    It's exciting to see Chromebooks transcending their education roots and expanding to both consumers and the enterprise.

    My employer issued me some low end Dell Latitude W10 laptop. It's well built and has great battery life and privacy switch for the webcam. I'd imagine running ChromeOS the battery life would be amazing!

    Strange how they don't have a number pad. Love those things now I've got the Acer 715 i5 Touch. When you're on Sheets a lot it makes such a difference.

      @Scott Martin Wow, that's a crazy deal. The best price in the UK was £399 for the Pentium Gold version with a hundred off!! £599 for mine with £100 off before the great shortage kicked in.. It has got all the specs, touch, fingerprint, backlighting but main thing for me is i5, screen size and full keyboard. The US seems to get crazy low deals on Chromebooks.. all those Best Buy offers I read about seem just so good.

      tbh it's not really a fair comparison because Chrome OS has way better optimization than Windows. the true statement would be Chrome OS is faster than Windows

      And LXDE is faster then Gnome. We all know that lighter shells are faster

    I'm a developer and am interested in a chromebook like this or the HP c1030. I'll be making heavy use of Crostini. Biggest worry I have is performance. How are the thermals on this? How well does it keep up to large compilation jobs? I know you might not be the best folks to ask this but I'm not sure who else is reviewing these units at the minute...

    If a I buy the windows version, can I install chrome os on it? (Full with play store, not only flex version). I don't like windows and in my country I just find the 7410 windows version.

    Chromebooks can't compete with Windows 10 PC or even last-gen MacOs computers in many ways, but, what they can do, they just do better and smarter! Yet being fussy when it comes to computers, like any self-respecting geek, I admit that the machines that are always on at home are... my smartphone and my chromebook !..
    Kitchen, living room, bedroom and even sometimes in the toilets ( lol), the CB is always solicited, and that, even for 5 minutes. In fact, I only turn on my other machines if I am unable to perform a particular task on the CB. However, these moments are ultimately very rare.
    To conclude, I think that Google is not so far from having found the missing link between personal computing, I mean so the old-fashioned way, and the world of mobility, a world that we all experience every day with smartphones and tablets.
    The future is really interesting, and Google is in this area, and without doubts, the actor that must be followed more than all the others to understand (or maybe predict) where we are going next decade...

    I got a MacBook Air from work and for over a year it served me just well. Got the 7410 Chromebook a couple of days ago and...well...I don't know if you tested a different machine. The touchpad is an abomination. It is highly inaccurate (and I've played with the settings to fix it). It is pure garbage in my eyes. I never thought I'd say this one day but I wish I had my MacBook back.

    Chromebooks above 1000 dollars just dont make sense anymore. But with the Linux beta its starting to look good. But honestly, Chromebooks with renoir Cpu's would make perfect sense since they are impossibly cheaper that Intel's offerings. Will you review the new/first Ryzen Chromebook? Too bad its using Zen+ not Zen 2 cpu

  • @emmanuelgoldstein8233
    @emmanuelgoldstein8233 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would corporate even use a $1300 chromebook? Last time I used chromebook was when I worked at a local content agency as a content writer, and that was also because it was so cheap and we only used Google Docs anyway. But this thing is expensive.

    • @floridaman7
      @floridaman7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They buy it in bulk so it’s cheaper. The chrome book is basically a dumb terminal. The future is all cloud apps, Citrix delivered windows apps, or a virtual desktop instance.

    Chromebooks at this price take away their USP, and charm. You can get a XPS, Thinkpad or a Mac for this money. I love my chromebook, HP 14a, plastic, but well made with a good screen and speakers, brilliant keyboard (better than my Mac) and will probably physically outlast its OS expiration date. I use my Mac for 'enterprise' duties.

    I don't mean to be rude, but I guess this could be construed that way. If talking around the point were an Olympic sport, you would be a many times gold medal winner. It was over halfway though the review before you even opened one of the laptops. I stuck it out for a while longer, but no actual specs or usage impressions. Maybe there was some real information at the end, but you had lost me by that time. I am not thumbing this down - that would be really rude, as I am not sure what you were intending, but at least with this comment you know why I won't be bothering with this channel again. I gained nothing of use form this!
