      That’s cool back in the early 2006
      I had a couple rx7z and 04 rx8
      Use to go to my local Mazda dealer for oem parts over the years anyways they been saying the rx9 was happening back in 2012! Man the concepts over the years always gave me hope! But I’m so happy it’s finally happening I miss the sports cars Mazda would produce and there racing history of horse and rider!

      The MX30 R-EV is already coming (next year?) so they have the power plant and a proof of concept that they can make a car with it. Nothing is stopping them from putting that powerplant in their RWD chassis (used in the CX60, CX90) and delivering a long wheelbase GT-style sports car. The RX9 fits that bill perfectly. I cant wait to see where they go with this. The MX30 R-EV is already groundbreaking.

    The rotary engine is being used as a generator for the batteries so they can pass emissions. I am praying that Mazda will have a back door way to use the rotary as the main power unit to propel the car. If Mazda does not I am sure that there will be a lot of rotary enthusist that will figure away to do so. The new two rotor engine is a 1.6 where the old two rotor was a 1.3. The goal for me would be to mod the 1.6 and keep the batteries to help give torque down low.

      Electric vehicle modding is gonna get wild if ebikes are anything to go by. There are dudes putting 50,000W on a...bicycle. Just you guys wait...electric car tuning is gonna be AMAZING. Give it a couple years. You will see. Just adding double volts practically doubles power. Think of how easy that is...it is gonna make tuning become so easy the government is gonna have to get involved with heavy regulatuons. For example...I run 1100W through a "250w" brushless motor. Just added more volt battery and a higher amp motor controller. Motor runs perfectly fine at 4x the power without any modifications.

    They have done a lot to work on the fuel efficiency of modern rotary, especially whats in their hybrids. Port+direct injection and exhaust recirculation etc. supposedly has increased efficiency by 30% give or take. The new concept looks cool though. Mazda has probably the best looking modern design in JDM at the moment, especially for daily driver cars. Toyota being second. Super intriguing. Its worth noting though that they just increased crate engine prices on Mazda rotarys by like double according to Rob Dahms recent vid sooooo lol

      The TH-camr, Shooting Cars, did an approx. 8 min vid on Pop-Ups and mentioned this as part of one of the reasons they disappeared.
      While I can certainly see that being a contributor for their decline in the past; given the thinner profile of a pop-up design like this, I think it has a legitimate chance, since there's not as much protruding bulkiness present to be able to injure pedestrians in any meaningful way compared to ones of the past.
      It'd sure be nice to see them come back.

    What do I think of it? I think I'm more excited about the Honda Prelude because it looks like it's actually going to come out relatively soon and in the same design as what was shown off at the show. Do I like that it's a hybrid and probably has a CVT for the transmission? No, but at this point, I'm just glad that they're coming out with a new coupe-shaped sports car at all. This is Honda I'm talking about, after all. They're one of the most conservative car companies on the planet.

    I'm kinda skeptical about it cause we've seen sick looking concepts before, but this one is definitely the best looking one so far, so I got some hopium that they might end up building it.
    Although the fact that the dorito is just gonna be for charging the battery is gonna be a big bummer. It kinda defeats the purpose of having a rotary in the first place since it's not really connected to the axles so it's gonna feel like an RX7 with a CVT. It's better than nothing but not really how I'd personally want the hybrid to work.
    If/when they do I can already see people taking out the batteries and the electric motors, fitting a decent gearbox and some big turbos and going all ham with it.

    What a Miata needs is low end torque. I got a bit of that with my Fast Forward supercharger (220WHP). I get a lot more of that with my Chevy Bolt (the distance it takes the Miata to reach 65, the bolt hits 77). "EV" torque in a Miata would be wonderful.
    My Volts hybrid system was (IMHO) the best. Engine, generator / motor and motor. When the battery is low enough (leaves 2KWh), the engine powers the generator that powers the motor. At WOT, the motor, motor / generator turns into a motor, and engine provide power to the tires. Hopefully, Mazda uses the same.

      The RX8 had a hydrogen variant prototype. Hydrogen works well in a rotary due to its ability to disperse quickly and evenly in the combustion chamber and burn quickly and completely. However the car could run on gasoline too because the hydrogen storage is still a major limitation (for any car) and the RX8's range on hydrogen alone was incredibly small, maybe 100km max. Plus we are talking about rotary efficiency here which also contributed to the terrible range on hydrogen. I think the only way this formula could work is if we had some kind of solid-state hydrogen storage tank (instead of gaseous or liquid hydrogen), hybridization, and turbocharging.

    The tailights should be epitrochoid plus a rear diffuser mounted rotary shaped F1 style LED that pulses differently at different speed and braking intensity. The tailights on that prototype look too much like indented lotus tailights with an an ellipse to obfuscate them. I like the pop-up headlights but I think they should be more traditional size and utilize a lens and halogen configuration (warm daylight color light). LED headlights are silly, annoying, and dangerous. Make a simple switch to disarm airbags on either side. Front wheel drive EV power when in stop and go traffic, but when you floor it, rear rotary power kicks in. When throttle is neutral, EV resumes but rotary stays on to recharge battery. Since EV motor is in front you could also utilize regenerative braking for decelleration. Also, since there is already a large battery, an electric supercharger could augment the rotary engine power and efficiency for "spirited" driving. (edit: maybe use peltier plates to cool the oil/engine plus generate electricty.)

    I like the rotary idea, actually, they want to get all the benefits of an electric car performance wise while generating the power with a rotary engine, that'll give the car an actual breathing dynamic like internal combustion cars. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @DevoT
      @DevoT ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jetcitykitty I agree. Even though most enthusiasts and myself included have been waiting for Mazda to bring back the rotary sports car - It would be awesome if Mazda made an EV that didn't need to be plugged into a charging station. One of the main reasons Japan has been slow to adopt fully electric cars is that their power grid simply doesn't have enough electricity to charge the cars and the infrastructure. Conversely, one of the main factors stopping consumers from purchasing EVs is their limited range, long charge times and lack of available charging stations. This rotary powered generator would solve all of those issues and provide the ability of using alternative fuels (hydrogen). I just hope it retains most of the gorgeous styling of the concept and most importantly won't tip the scales at 1800 kg.

    Using a rotary engine as a range extender for a battery electric vehicle with a small battery is absolutely genius
    This greatly reduces the cost and weight of the system... all while solving the largest problem with electric cars: range
    You don't need to carry around 1200 lb of batteries when most of your driving from day to day is just 50 miles around the city... better to carry around a super lightweight 200 lb rotary engine & 300lbs of batteries.
    Then when it's road trip time you fill up the tank and you can make pit stops wherever you like
    This also allows the rotary engine to function in exactly the way that it is the most efficient: super consistent low RPM speed

  • @leo24432
    @leo24432 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man I get it why they went with a hybrid system. And yes it's sad it's strictly rotary powered. But with the way A rotary engine is designed and makes sense to have it as a Generator of some sort. I can kind of see it having less of a draw than your conventional engines with hybrid systems. Since it already rotates in a circle of some sort. Which means it could probably output more power than a normal engine could because of that fact. That and if they use a 48 V system they can put bigger Electric motors at to give it even more power. And there won't be such a delay between the motor kicking on and the hybrid system as well

  • @ryanlewis3496
    @ryanlewis3496 ปีที่แล้ว

    The rotary IDEA is awesome….
    BUT with all the quirks that come with a rotary engine such as the infamous apex seals and the need for rotary engines to be driven “hard” I truly don’t see it being used in modern vehicles. ESPECIALLY being used as a “GENERATOR” for an electric drivetrain.
    In terms of combustion engine generated electric energy… the piston engine is just more reliable and consistent.
    But one can still dream for a modern booster rotary. 😴 💭🍕
