These cars we’re pretty much great. The only Achilles heel of these supercharged GM 3800 cars was the transmission. These powerful engines ate up transmissions like crazy. But the engine is a little jewel
Neon SRT & Caliber SRT were capable of well over 500hp, but man they were ridiculously undriveable at this level. even stock, you had to grip the steering wheel hard to not throw it in the ditch lol
The GM 3.8 V6 is the best V6 ever made period. Its reliable out of the box and when you throw boost at it it takes it like a champ. I have seen stock 3.8's make well over 600hp with zero work done to them. Now i little bit of work to them and sky's the limit. No joke they can make over 1500hp just go look in Australia. They probably how them turned up to over 2k! Best V6 of the century.

The 3800 is a robust engine, but 600ho on stock internals is strong doubt. They made like 240hp in their peak stock form with the 3800SC in the GTP and Monte SS. A unmodified 3800 would unalive itself quickly at 600hp.

My mom had the 2002 Grand Prix GTP, forest green, black leather, was a fun little car. They took it over seas and they LOVED that thing in England (3.8L plus the supercharger is big for most of their regular commuters). I had to daily it for a while when both of my vehicles (project and daily) were down...I enjoyed that car a lot. She traded it in for a brand new 2008 Infiniti G37S, which she still has to this day with like 20k miles on it..she loves speeds but doesnt drive anymore.. I honestly would've bought that GTP off her as a daily if she didnt trade it in!
I was obsessed with these cars when I was younger. I had a 1998, and a 2002 -both black coupes. Blew the transmission out of the ‘98, sold the ‘02 still running well with a few mods.
I had two GP's. A '99 SE that had an NA 3800. Then an '04 GTP sedan mildly modded. I still kind of miss the GTP. FWD fun for sure. The GTP was upsetting quite a few Charger RT's.
Used to have a GTP about 14 years ago. I loved the hell out of that car. It wasn't fast, but it was pure theater. I only got rid of it cause it died at 189,000 miles it was leaking coolant from the block. I got it at 122k and had to rebuild the transmission, it was pretty reliable after that just the passenger window regulator would go out after about 8 months for the 4 year I had it.
good? The only thing I cared about when I was younger was the G8 GT and the solstice, everything else they made in the 2000's was kinda dogsh*t when stock
@ nah you’re easily impressed. Late 90’s early 2000’s GM made generally some of the worst sh*t on the road outside of the corvette. Even that felt terrible on the inside (i still love the c5 and c6). Like, you just have REALLY low standards my friend.
Definitely remember the commercials for the car..Wider is Better was the saying...I used to know a girl that did hair that had a supercharged version..👍🏾🏁

Between the two different whistle sounds harmonizing and the blow off valve making a crash cymbal sound, I'd say that ride must be a symphonic experience. My Saab is music to my ears, now I just got to find a way to twin charge it!
This reminds me of the GTP I had. My supercharger seized, so I slapped a big turbo setup for the motor on it (66/62 I believe). I made my neighbor with a (then newly released) Charger SRT 6.1 feel bad with it through about 130 mph, but then ran out of engine - or at least my comfort zone.
I Need a Park Avenue Ultra in my life. The 3800 is always the one that got away for me. I have a 06 is350 and I always thought of the Toyota 2GR 3.5 as the Japanese 3800.

I feel like a twin charged setup could be really good for drifting. Instant torque with a ton of midrange, plenty of power to beat the limiter too. Maybe I’m wrong but it would be cool to build a twin charged drift car
I had a 2004 GTP with a bunch of bolt ons and even e85 at one point and was sitting around 300whp on a 3.2 pulley and was so damn fast and sounded great. I remember running door to door with a stage 2 bmw 535i in a race beat many other cars I shouldn't have. Almost thinking of getting another now that the aftermarket for them is even bigger on zzp then it was back then.
I am currently drawing up plans to drop a 3.8SC in a 91 Buick Reatta. The supercharged 3.8 has similar engine geometry with the original 3.8 in the Reatta so im hopeful it'll be a straightforward swap. The front end of both cars have similar suspension geometry as well.
Yes, put a good pair of slicks or street slicks and it would def bite better and get you on your way. The 3800 is a really great durable engine for that set up. Didnt hear what gas is being ran in it but I don't think you need to run anything special with that dual boost set up. I had a 2000 grand prix with just the 3800 no boost and ran racing fuel and it got quite a bit more power out of it . Thanx for showing I loved it and often thought about boosting mine but never did. Been in multiple of these. One friend had a few, the crappy painted blue one had a pvc intake and bald tires. Always managed to scare me with the torque steer haha
I had a 1997 Grand Prix GT (non turbocharged) sedan - loaded with about every option imaginable - even a tire pressure monitoring system and heads-up display, which was very unusual for any car at that time... I've had a lot of cars in my life... a few GM cars - this was the best GM car that I had by far. The 3800 V6 is bulletproof - probably the best V6 that GM ever made. All said, that car just wasn't made for 500+ HP. The torque steer must be unreal.
I was surprised how strong the factory auto was. Or at least the one we beat on sure was stout. Reverse rolling full throttle neutral drops kind of strong. We tried to kill it. But that regal just wouldn't die.
Currently saving up to build my 04 impala. Plan to swap a 3800 supercharged into it with a cavalier manual trans (5 speed). My impala has a 3400 rn and it's pretty slow but a 3800 with a supercharger is double the power almost and are known more for reliability over the 3400. Would love to know the person who built this car to have a chat with them as the Pontiac was a impala before it was a Pontiac. Plus a quick impala of this gen is way more sleeper.

Also I feel like the l67 never got it's due. Maybe that'll change because there's a few people starting tp catch on. Supercharged they're ok but if you take that off and turbo them instead they can handle a decent amount of power and it's not too hard to make that power. It's the 2JZ's hillbilly cousin. I mean a version of these did power the legendary Grand National.
It needs an lsd. The transmission is an F40 and they were in a bunch of GM cars from the Saab 9-3 to the G6 and others in between. LSD swap it and/or try and fit the 9-3 xwd system to the car. That would be sweet

Always liked these and wanted one. If I didn't just buy another damn BMW I'd have one. Stock they make a pretty good daily Juice em up with another 40-60 hp and I bet they're a blast.
I had a 97 gtp with mods and tuned had around 300hp at least loved that car theyre slept on for sure
Just bought a grand prix gt last week. Gonna reinforce the transmission and slap a rear mounted turbo on it. Sleeper.
These big power FWD cars make our boy look like he's drunk driving
My dad has always had one just stock with the supercharger , i always thought it was a cool sleeper car
Is that.... painters tape around the base of the shift boot?? 😂
Ya! I am doing some 3D scanning to be able to print a new console top!
@joel89039 that's a great reason 👌 hope it turns out perfect on the first try! Sick build btw.
Needs AWD any options for older fwd gms? And some better control arms or sway bars that torque steer can be fixed
