Amazing, I was on a school trip and a TVR Sagaris was in the car park behind us and we were all amazed by it, seeing it in person with the shifting colours and strange design it was like seeing a UFO and it made a godly noise when it left... Imprinted TVR in my mind forever.
Many years ago I was shocked, just for seeing photos on internet of the Sagaris. AND the feeling is still here. Cant imagine how it would be to see one TVR close. Maybe your description is one of the best real reaction.
@@EarthOutpost that may be true, but do you really think records of said information have survived? I'm banking on the information storage mediums, that are available today and the availability of said information will surely survive in the hearts and minds of many for years to come.
This might be my favorite DriveTribe video that I've seen. There is a true sense of wonder and excitement throughout the whole video. The engine sound is unbelievable and it's incredible to think that they had to turn down the tuning. The video makes it sound like they were close to cracking the 1:1 ratio way before Koenigsegg. I'm seeing this video months after the car found a new home and sold for over 600k pounds. Still, that seems like a bargain for such a rare and amazing car. Thanks for showing it to us DT!
Looking at this monster, I realized that the Dodge Viper Gen 1 was made with filigree fitment of body panels and a luxurious interior with the highest level of comfort.
I remember speaking to one of the engineers for the Aston Martin Vulcan when it was first released at goodwood festival of speed. I said to him to him that it heavily reminded me of the speed twelve and the guy laughed in my face. Glad to know I’m not the only one who thought it looked similar.
This wasn’t on a rolling dyno like modern shops. I have grainy video of it on an axel dyno and it completely fried the internal hearing of the dyno. The shop engineer was guessing it was closer to 2200hp the way it sheered the gearing off the shafts. That’s something you see in dedicated quarter mile drag cars with 3000+ torque. This car was no joke back in it’s development days
My dad used to have a 4.2 Cerbera and that was an absolute underrated death trap...so the idea that this existed always fascinated me and devastates me that it wasn't "safe enough"
I had one too... it was partly made with Ford parts and held together with mastic and self-taping screws! :) Very cool car... will have a Sagaris before I meet my maker.
The amount of nostalgia involved in the intro is incomprehensible. I played Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 from age 5 to age 16 until my PS2 stopped working. As soon as this video started, I was immediately transported back in time. Gave me tingles. Thank you DRIVETRIBE.
I think back in Gran Turismo 4 days I made this car have over 1000hp. It was ridiculous fast and had a lot of traction! My friends didn´t know the car, so in races I pretendet to be just as fast as whatevery they were driving. And then at the last lap I just unleashed that thing and flew past them like a rocket.
This and the Viper, just insane underated monsters since folks didn't know the name plates. I remember one friend looking at me like "Did you just beat me with a car with a pickup engine?!" This TVR gave the same reaction!
I briefly owned a TVR Tuscan V8 (289) and the clutch went out after a couple of hundred miles. I don't blame TVR, the previous owner was heavy handed. The car didn't impress me (compared to a few others i still have) and i parted ways with TVR. I changed the clutch myself and a doctor from Connecticut bought it. I actually drove it up to his house and he cashed me out and drove me to the train station. This car in this video is a specialty one off car. Pretty sweet but if I could afford it i still have a few others I'd choose before it. It can't be driven where I live. I have a '87 911 turbo with the 505 option I bought new and I drive it in the cooler months. it's been 100 for 3 months a killer.
I think this has to be one of my favourite drivetribe videos. From the extremely clean editing, the topic, Mike's presentation, that intro and down to the music. Everything hit just right
The Speed 12 certainly hasn't been forgotten by FH4 players. Gorgeous and lethal. I leaned on it *hard* in the early game so it'll always have a place in my heart.
My mum and dad lived on the street practically separated by the tip, growing up playing outside and hearing a tvr everyday going up and down the main road was amazing.. then hearing one of thease.. they took one if the race cars down the long road to turn it round, never heard anything like it or as loud.. what a shame its gone now!
Saleen S7's were another car from this era I absolutely loved and never felt like they got the love they deserved from the public. Loved the video and really opened my eyes to a legend I never knew existed
1 thing that made this car especially memorable for me was the epic colors they had on offer in GT4. Those colourshifts we're the coolest thing to 8yr old me.
In terms of 'Gran Turismo Legends', this car is most definitely up there with the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Edition and the Renault Espace F1. Absolutely bonkers cars and I love them all to bits!
I’m 44 years old and I remember as a child seeing a Cerbera drive down the road and ever since that day it has been my dream car. Looks, sound and sheer grunt. Nothing to this day has excited me like that car. What a beast
The other company Mr. Abbott mentions is not TBR, but TR Supercars, an engineering company based in Lytham St Annes. TR, working with former TVR Engineers built a Speed 12 with the components mentioned to use as a dynamic test rig for validation of the automotive components TR's parent company, Helical Technology, manufactures for high end marques such as McLaren & Ferrari. TR has since gone on to secure the trademarks of Speed 12 & Cerbera, and have built two more versions of the Speed 12 with twin turbocharged 6ltr V12s, producing north of 1,010bhp.
This makes me so happy. The world needs more cars that require skilled drivers. Danger was the heart and soul of motorsports history, long since faded by modern manufacturing and machines without character.
Not that you may know but any opinion on the origin of V12, as in if it was completely bespoke or had origins from, say similar head design to the speed 6 it is argued to be related?
Definitely not forgotten, Mike. The original Speed 12 was one of my favourite cars in Gran Turismo 2 because it was an absolute beast to handle and very keen to put its back end out.
I was lucky enough to be at the press launch of grand tourismo at an event in soho - this car was there and I was talking to the old owner. His wife didn’t know he owned it as he had a secret barn full of cars lol. I was standing next to the car when he started it and the exhaust burnt my leg. The craziest sound from a car I think I’ve ever heard
As a proud TVR owner (Tamora) I'd would love to be able to afford this. Sadly its not been heard much during its lifetime, and has largely spent life laid up. I hope whoever does buy it will use it more or at least allow others to admire the car like it was at Lakeland.
Mike has become such a great presenter over the years. I recently rewatched the XJR-9 video from back in the day and he's come so far from then, purely driven by the love of cars. Well done sir
You have to love his sheer enthusiasm. He comes across as someone doing their dream job...and quite honestly what car enthusiast wouldn't want to do what he does?
Would wheelspin 3rd under acceleration even with super-soft tyres. Loved it with the race-mod. Red Rock Valley, 5 laps (usually in the Escudo) and viola, a Speed 12 was yours.
Not to mention, World Driver Championship (N64-1999) had it in the game as the "EXR Mystic", as a matter of fact, it was the vehicle in the intro. I THINK it was the last or one of the last vehicles you unlocked, I never made it that far lol. Even back then, people knew about how sick of a car it was.
That was unreal. I’ve always wanted to know more about the Speed 12 but there just isn’t much for pictures of it online that I could ever find. And here’s a full video up close and personal with it. Totally made my day.
Breaks ones heart knowing that beast is rarely if not ever unleashed on the tarmac, absolute amazing work ❤ hope the brand succeeds in the future. Be ace see tvr set a land speed record
Thats how i know about it. You had to get all platimum medals in PGR2 to get it and then it was basically unbeatable in multiplayer. That game is also how I came to love Noble which is another car that is pretty much impossible to own.
@@mushieslushie I remember they released a DLC pack for PGR2 which included the Speed 12 but with a different, fixed color compared to the one you'd unlock with Platinum Medals. So online you suddenly saw everyone driving Speed 12s and crashing all over the place, but if you saw one in a unique color you knew they got it through driving skill...
@@t3hgir I think there was also some way to cheat and unlock it by copying a game save file or something but same thing, if they couldn't drive it you know they cheated.

This video just blew my mind, the speed twelve always felt like a myth to me. So very few videos out there on the real one and little information about it when I was still playing GT3. Hearing that beast of an engine almost brought tears tbh - this thing would have been ballistic if has its chance at the GT1 championship. Thank you DT 🙏🏽
Everything about this car, from the development process to the end product, to every little part in between, feels so magical. Like it’s imbued with this sense of mystery and enigma.
As a blackpool boy who worked in that very tvr specialist when it was called ‘surface and design’ and once was lucky enough to go out for a ride in that absolute animal and the purple car. I can safely say that car is the most intimidating car you will ever be in the presence of. It is absolutely terrifying and one of the only cars I would be genuinely be scared to drive. I cannot stress how much of a privilege it was to experience that thing. And an experience I’ll never forget. Although it’s a huge shame. I can understand why Mr Wheeler decided to shut down the project. Many deaths would have fallen at the hands of that car.
@@Mika-85 Unfair and decades hence contrast. Similar to comparing a GT40 with Toyota's current GR010. Each more than half a century of automotive development apart.
Watching this reminded me of why I got into cars in the first place. Seeing this on Forza Motorsport 2 growing up and playing with my brother who is 10 years older than me really helped me understand somethings. I’m 24 now and I have nothing but chills watching this video. The moment he started it up reminds me of hearing thundering v8’s v10’s and other v12’s screaming around a track. Nothing honestly compares in my opinion… Raw power, Raw talent to compose a car… Thank you DriveTribe so much for this video! I also had to call my friend and talk to him about this. Thank you.
Great timing! I actually trying to do a challenge to myself by using this car to play in Gran Tirusmo 2 (yes it first appeared in that game) and it such a monster, the only thing that dwarf it is the infamous Escudo Pikes Peak version. It was and still is a challenge to control such an enormous power even with TCS and ASC put all the way up but it just tears through every single other car (apart from that Escudo)
Was it just the race car? Because I remember the speed 12 in that game came with the weird front and rear end. Though you could also race modify the standard one so not sure. Definitely a different body to the one most people know.
@@Zootopia96 it came as a normal car but it have racing modifications. The one in GT2 was a prototype of it called Project 7/12 (simply called Speed 12 in-game), not the Cerbera Speed 12, that's why it looks different from this one. Go look that name up you will recognize its shape and its iconic purple color.
This car was kept at the Lakeland motor museum in the lake district & i have had the chance to see it in the flesh there twice. The museum had cars in age order from oldest to newest and you got around to about 1950's when it jumped to this, the only reason it was slapped in between such old cars was that it had access to the doors so the owner could take it out and use it. What a car, a true unicorn.
That Cerbera Speed 12 is a legend no doubt....Too precious to drive mind , but a definite legend. The cars I'd most like to see would be : Tickford Capri , Lister le Mans twin supercharged or a Koenig Specials 512M evo 2 ( 1000hp)
I sense a connection here - my father was brought up in Devonshire Road, not two minutes away from the old TVR factory, and we share surnames with Trevor, the founder. What a beast of a car.
I absolutely loved this episode, thank you!!! I’m Canadian so I have never actually seen a TVR but I have always been incredibly fascinated by them, the Forza games introduced me to the speed 12 (love at first sight). I never knew they didn’t produce them which is sad to hear but what a car!
The noise that engine made was nothing short of astonishing. I get why they didn't take it to a track, it's nearly priceless, but man, what I would give to see that beauty fire a few shots in anger! ^_^
This was a treat! My mind went straight back to GT3. The beauty in design that follows form is this thing is so bonkers-looking it’s timeless. Thanks for going over this gem.
Loved this. The original Gran Turismo introduced me to TVR and a "normal" cerbera has been a dream car ever since. I had forgotten the speed 12 was supposedly based on the cerbera but seems obvious looking at it now. Still looks great to me all these years later.
I don't comment on TH-cam at all but this car being featured properly on DRIVETRIBE makes me happy. To see underneath car for the first time in this video was incredible along with the engine start-up. I would love to see more of the GT1 era cars on here. From the early days of the McLaren F1, Mercedes CLK GTR (the CLR would be a huge bonus but will never happen with its history), Porsche 911 GT1. All the way up to the last days with the Maserati MC12, Aston Martin DBR9, Corvette C6.R's, Nissan GT-R GT1, Matech Ford GT GT1.
This, to me, is my ultimate driving machine/ beast. Even when we raced it in GT3, we knew how scary, yet exciting it was. Even though you had in your arsenal, it was only pulled out on special occasions. Two Dodge Vipers slammed together; my heart is racing just thinking about!
I remember years ago, around the time when I had not long past my driving test, so would have been circa 1994 / 1995, I used to buy Max Power magazine and dream of my next car being one of the many beautifully professionally modified feature cars. I remember seeing a TVR Cerbera being featured as a special project in one of the issues. Not sure if it was the speed 12 but it was one of the most beautiful cars I had ever seen at that point
I love your expression when u rev it after cold start. Prue excitement, you cant fake that and thats why pour out lives ,love ,sweat, tears , countless hours and dollars. Its a lifestyle, you either get it or you dont. Great channel
I remember reading once the Speed 12 being described as "The kind of car Hell's Debt Collector would drive." Sums up this brutally powerful insanity perfectly.
I remember watching the Jeremy Clarkson VHS "the most outrageous Jeremy Clarkson video... Ever" where they featured the race version of this car.. such a magnificent segment for a magnificent car 😍😍
I watched a lecture given at Leicester University by TVR's Neil Anderson on the creation of the car. It was superb but I only remember snippets. Apparently, when they had to fit intake restrictor plates to race, the vacuum collapsed the air boxes and they had to use thicker carbon fibre. one of the biggest challenges was not melting the diff and oil cooling was crucial. I did see the Speed 12 race in the British GT series and it was a monster.
Legendary! As a massive TVR fan the Speed 12 is the pinnacle for me. Loved watching its development and hearing about the testing stories and was saddened to hear of the cancellation of its production then ultimately the demise of TVR. Yet another great British car builder gone with any luck they can get the new Griffith to production but I'm not holding my breath.
such an underated car, one of my favourite car ever is the Sagaris and I must say, when I have the money, I'll buy a TVR because that's a one of a kind car and I'm pretty sure that you must feel some things that you can't feel in other cars.
Drivetribe, you guys and girls have made yet another amazing video. Featuring an epic piece of automotive history. I first saw/knew about the car when it appeared in Gran Turismo 2 as it was a reward car for one of the higher tier racing events. It always was a bit of a handful on the game
Something very similar to this, or maybe was part of the same development program, was on display at the 1999 Adelaide motor show. My record of the display placard from the event is 7.7L V12 and 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. I didn’t recognise the brand at the time, but clearly it was something very rare.
One of the best videos of DriveTribe ever, just pure car geeks stuff, even more than that, and the best thing was the monster starting, the best noise i have ever heard, EVER.
This goes to show the power of games like Gran Turismo. Especially at that time. A car that barely existed is known about by millions. I played Gran Turismo since GT1 was only a Demo. So cool to look back on this stuff now.
“If you have a front end crash, your oil filter’s gonna be the first casualty”… I’d venture to guess that if you had a front end crash in this one-off car, the oil filter would be the absolute LEAST of your worries. What a strange thing to mention, considering the beauty and rarity of the car. AutoZone has plenty of oil filters sitting on the shelf, but probably zero replacement Speed 12 front clips. 😂

Lister Storm LM would be epic to see in more detail. Saw that race at Donnington Park many years ago and the noise of the Jag V12 was biblical
I can also remember seeing these in the British GT and will never forget that noise.
Wow! There's a name I haven't heard in a long time, that would definitely make a great video 👍
Was just gonna ask for the same car
I just remember it from gran turismo in that yellow and green livery
It was a great period for British cars in the BPR, as much as I'm a Jag man I loved the navy blue and silver Marcos LM 600's.
The coolest thing about it being a one off car is that from the wear on the shifter someone obviously had some fun actually using it .
Awesome reflection. Agree!
I thought that was a nice raw touch too 🤌
TVR may effectively be gone, but never will be forgotten

😅😂👍
Makes a viper seem like an mgb 😅
Fun fact, Gavin beach, the brilliant development director and gearbox designer from TVR did the aerodynamics for the dodge Viper are BAe Warton.
It's also abysmaly slow compared to the Cerbera
@@marvinberwart Prove it. The Gen 1 Viper's top speed and HP are undisputed and factual. The Cerbera GT has no proven top speed or verified HP.
I remember speaking to one of the engineers for the Aston Martin Vulcan when it was first released at goodwood festival of speed. I said to him to him that it heavily reminded me of the speed twelve and the guy laughed in my face. Glad to know I’m not the only one who thought it looked similar.
Insane that this could have 200 more horsepower than a Vulcan
This wasn’t on a rolling dyno like modern shops. I have grainy video of it on an axel dyno and it completely fried the internal hearing of the dyno. The shop engineer was guessing it was closer to 2200hp the way it sheered the gearing off the shafts. That’s something you see in dedicated quarter mile drag cars with 3000+ torque. This car was no joke back in it’s development days
My dad used to have a 4.2 Cerbera and that was an absolute underrated death trap...so the idea that this existed always fascinated me and devastates me that it wasn't "safe enough"
Same here. Drove it a few times (when it wasn’t broken down) and it was a beast!
My father had one also. He run Four. Traveling down too Devon early hours. Fantastical to drop me off.
I had one too... it was partly made with Ford parts and held together with mastic and self-taping screws! :) Very cool car... will have a Sagaris before I meet my maker.
can we have airbags ? no it adds weight...

I ever played GT4 until i retire my Playstation 2 in 2019.
It was also on grand turismo 3. GT4 was to easy with the auto racing garbage
There's no nostalgia here!
Ain't no game here Ryan.
Yeah, lots of nostalgia. Anyone know what the in-game music was?
I think back in Gran Turismo 4 days I made this car have over 1000hp. It was ridiculous fast and had a lot of traction! My friends didn´t know the car, so in races I pretendet to be just as fast as whatevery they were driving. And then at the last lap I just unleashed that thing and flew past them like a rocket.

This and the Viper, just insane underated monsters since folks didn't know the name plates. I remember one friend looking at me like "Did you just beat me with a car with a pickup engine?!" This TVR gave the same reaction!
dude same here thats all i drove in gt4
I'd rather have the British designed ac cobra with American v8
As a TVR owner, I’m super grateful for the showcase of this monster. 👍

Saleen S7's were another car from this era I absolutely loved and never felt like they got the love they deserved from the public. Loved the video and really opened my eyes to a legend I never knew existed

Cooool
Not that you may know but any opinion on the origin of V12, as in if it was completely bespoke or had origins from, say similar head design to the speed 6 it is argued to be related?
The two continuation cars are powered by V12 engines direct from Aston Martin and cost around £1m.

That intro was incredible
I doubt he would be allowed to drive that thing
The Speed 12 was available in GT2(PS1) as well. Was a handful of a car! Awesome video, BTW. Thanks for sharing this with the world!
Ikr! Nostalgic! But the traction of this car is bad in GT2 tbh.
Would wheelspin 3rd under acceleration even with super-soft tyres.
Loved it with the race-mod.
Red Rock Valley, 5 laps (usually in the Escudo) and viola, a Speed 12 was yours.
ah yes, the fastest way of earning credits, spam Red Rock and sell it ;D
Not to mention, World Driver Championship (N64-1999) had it in the game as the "EXR Mystic", as a matter of fact, it was the vehicle in the intro. I THINK it was the last or one of the last vehicles you unlocked, I never made it that far lol.

It was and still is a challenge to control such an enormous power even with TCS and ASC put all the way up but it just tears through every single other car (apart from that Escudo)
Yape you're right! I remember it from GT2 first, what a beast that car was, undrivable almost!

The Cerbera speed 12 comes in at number 2 of my fav road legal cars behind another British legend. The Noble M600
That Cerbera Speed 12 is a legend no doubt....Too precious to drive mind , but a definite legend. The cars I'd most like to see would be : Tickford Capri , Lister le Mans twin supercharged or a Koenig Specials 512M evo 2 ( 1000hp)

You are correct, I use to make a lot of money on Red Rock Valley with it.
It wasn’t the cerbera though. That was the speed 12 concept from 1996

The original Gran Turismo introduced me to TVR and a "normal" cerbera has been a dream car ever since.
I had forgotten the speed 12 was supposedly based on the cerbera but seems obvious looking at it now. Still looks great to me all these years later.
Yes. Same here. The Saleen S7 also.
I don't comment on TH-cam at all but this car being featured properly on DRIVETRIBE makes me happy. To see underneath car for the first time in this video was incredible along with the engine start-up. I would love to see more of the GT1 era cars on here.
How long did you race in GT3?
I remember years ago, around the time when I had not long past my driving test, so would have been circa 1994 / 1995, I used to buy Max Power magazine and dream of my next car being one of the many beautifully professionally modified feature cars. I remember seeing a TVR Cerbera being featured as a special project in one of the issues. Not sure if it was the speed 12 but it was one of the most beautiful cars I had ever seen at that point

TVR was so ahead of its time! However I´m scared of the speed12. The Tuscan is scary enough for me
Legendary! As a massive TVR fan the Speed 12 is the pinnacle for me. Drivetribe, you guys and girls have made yet another amazing video. Featuring an epic piece of automotive history. I first saw/knew about the car when it appeared in Gran Turismo 2 as it was a reward car for one of the higher tier racing events. It always was a bit of a handful on the game
The body reminds me of the Supra and the Viper; very beautiful!
Epic video. Nostalgia all the way, and I really like how expressive Mike is. It just feels like a normal dude who gets his childhood dreams come true.
