When I start talking about melee to people who don't play and get scatter brained and start popping off 20 years of lore and in game knowledge, this is what I will show them
Content like this is why I love following HBox. It’s really sweet he’d take the time to explain all this lore not only for newcomers but veterans as well who may have missed something.
Ditto was supposed to turn into a clone of your character and help you, like it does now in ultimate. It was so close to making the game, its still in the official strategy guide.
I thought this is going to be like a podcast type video that I can listen to while doing other things. Instead it was a super well edited video that forced me to watch it regularly. Damn you editors, you did too good of a job
I feel really proud knowing that I knew almost all of this! I love seeing iceberg videos show up, and I've already been a big HBox fan for a while now so this video series is a no-brainer to me
I can believe wobbling was legal for as long as it was. It was literally icies players screaming "G-GIT GUD" in fear of having their crutch taken away.
some of this stuff is legends i only talked about with friends.. nice to see them being put into a video log and with some surprises that i had no idea about! thanks box man
- One additional factoid I know about is that the soundtrack of Melee was deliberately composed to make it difficult to differentiate orchestrated songs from synthesized video game music. - Ditto would've taken on the appearance of whoever breaks him out of the PokéBall. It was scrapped due to technical limitations and time restrictions.
You know the saddest thing is that people want Melee HD BUT the thing is if Nintendo did make it they would use the PAL version of the game and people would hate it.
I wouldn’t though luckily since it was the version that I grew up with but it’s unfortunate that a lot of people have issues with it even though it’s more balanced then the original version.
Hey HungryBox, I know you probably won't believe me but the Master Hand glitch has been around longer than 6 or 7 years. I used to have a neighbor named Michael that I used to play with in 2007 and we were both aware of the glitch back then. I only lived in that house for about 6 months before we moved away so in that time frame it was known. We discovered the glitch on a cheat code website for video games, GameWinners in particular. The glitch was definitely known back then but I'm guessing it wasn't very popular yet or well known.
this is a great video, i’m trying to get into melee rn being an ult/other fighting game player. the whole port priority and missing hitbox thing for characters like luigi really irk me but the game’s movement options seem so fun so it’s probably worth it. (also the whole luigi cyclone charge thing which idk if it was mentioned in this vid is insanely weird but i kinda love it since it’s on luigi)
Pichu also has a special taunt, depending what direction you face when taunting pichu will either do a version of pikachus or pichu will lay on the ground and do one of those cartoon exaggerated laughs (since ult has 3 taunts per character one of pichus melee taunts has been rebound)
51:19 I remember when people were blaming UNIST for Melee not being there. As someone who plays both it really irked me cause it wasn’t UNIST’s fault at all. Blame the organization not the game. Also great video! I knew most of this but I’m excited to dive deeper and discover stuff I may not know about in both the game but also the community!
Haven't watched the series yet, but I might post my thoughts at its conclusion, but I have a question for you, Hbox. Why do you think Smash tournaments use single fighter battles instead of a squad strike formula? I think the change of characters throughout the match would provide an interesting layer of strategy when planning against your opponent. Just a thought
From what i remember hearing 20XX wasn't just that everyone played Fox, it was that every competitive player has become so skilled at the game that there is a total stalemate in every match, and the match itself is decided solely by a coinflip that determines who gets to be player 1 (due to controller slot priority providing a tiny amount of input lag for player 2)
A video about all the fun facts in other smash except melee(since u already did it) & putting them together to do an other iceberg would be so cool !!!
11:54 Just for clarification because it's not too well known, you need to press down on the d-pad for exactly 1 frame* *Not sure if it is exactly 1, but that is what seems to work for me. Just mash down d-pad, or press it as if you were trying to short hop as fox.
hungrybox, i know all of your pass in melee, you inspired me to play smash and you is my idol in real life!, you are the best player in melee history and the best god, thank for all
>EmpLemon makes a top tier documentary video on HBox >HBox makes a top tier documentary video on the Melee Iceberg It's only a matter of time before the Melee Iceberg makes a banger video on EmpLemon
11:03 holy shit, this is why I've never had a habit of using the right analog stick for Smash attacks. I completely forgot this. I played a ton of single player Melee modes. It's how I learned the game at a starting level. And I still don't use it for smash attacks. Smash 4 introduced the tilt-stick option, and it felt like a clear upgrade to what I had already learned. This unlocked some deep seeded memories.
Something kinda funny about this fact, the no C-Stick Smashes in Single Player. A lot of people think it's an oversight or unintended, HBox kinda implies that too, but it's actually fully intended. The did fully want the C-Stick to be for camera in Single Player, but then when the got to Multiplayer obviously they went "Well one person can't zoom in) so it was turned off, and ONLY LATER did they decide "Well if the C-Stick isn't used for anything, let's change it into a Macro that does Smash attacks." So in a way it's less "Why is the C-Stick not used for Smashes in Single Player" and more "Why did they decide to add it for Smashes in Multiplayer."
This kind of content is not only great for people that already know melee, but helps funnel new players in easier. Thanks for putting this together!

a weapon to surpass Metal Gear...
wait that's not his real name....WHAT
idk its just a good name for it

For his neutral special he wields a silenced gun
pew pew
For his final smash
The Golden gun

James Bond in melee would’ve been hilarious

Would he, for his neutral special, perhaps use a gun?
If he ever got into melee, he’d also be in Ultimate, imagine a James Bond Final Smash.

It's mind blowing that this November, the GameCube is gonna be 20 years old and Melee's anniversary in December

M2K would have been cool too
@@danielbojkovski723 I would have loved him there, but Hbox has a better screen presence
This is the best Iceberg I've seen! The design, presentation, everything is so good. I just want to come back and watch it again and again.
Man, can you imagine if James Bond ends up being the last DLC fighter and has different actors as his alts? Impossible but fun to think about
