Watched your 4 month update, and I bought the last one on Amazon immediately! Wow this thing really is a beast. I have a 29g with a hob coralife filter with a pos skimmer on it. I have had huge nitrate readings and I believe it's the lack of skimming of the tank from the dinky skimmer coralife has. Buy this skimmer it's expensive, but so worth a clean tank with colorful fat corals!
That emergency drain back into the skimmer from the cup is genius. I had a bad experience with a deltec HOB i used a few years ago - skimmer went nuts and I had water everywhere! Wish it had a emergency drain on that!
Thank you for the review! I received this skimmer today and your video was immensely helpful. It's now set up, primed and running. I have a 75 gallon freshwater tank with goldfish, which are, as you know, very dirty fish. I have never used a protein skimmer before, so I'm hoping this is going to give me a clean tank, with healthy fish, for many years to come. Thanks again!
I have the in sump version of this the ws1 working good so far but I should of got something else since I had room for it in my sump but if space is an issue can’t go wrong with it I am sure it will be enough for my 42 gallon. good video.
fe Lope thanks glad you enjoyed it. Ya this thing is an absolute beast of a skimmer I have been running it for a few days and all I can say is wow. So far love it a lot. I hear the ws1 is very good as well.
I wish I had the same outcome as you. The bubbles blew off the top of the collection cup no matter what I did. Followed every single step and it soaked my floor and almost drained all of my water out. The over fill tube just leaked on top of the lid with the cut outs in it. Waste of money smh
There is another issue with this skimmer. The internal silencer sits partially submerged. As a result a salt build up can occur and block the Venturi air inlet. When this happens the internal water level rises and escapes the body inlet groove. Put your thumb over the hose to simulate this issue. I cut 1/4 inch off the silencer body to get it out of the normal water stream.
fe Lope when you say dry you mean like a more foamy skimmate? I got it to do it within the first 2 hours. If performance has been hindered over time it could be because water viscosity has changed due to chemicals or food. It’s hard to say without seeing a video or picture though.
EAT SLEEP Reef yes foamy (dry) doubt its time I’ve only had it for 1 month it worked awesome dry foamy at first I tried raising the cup all the way and it doesn’t pull anything at all I ordered the cadlights skimmer nano 2 elite i am just gonna sell this one off it might have to do with where I put the water line. I am gonna sell it for 50$ let me know if you or anyone is interested I am putting it up on Craigslist.
Thats very weird this is an awesome skimmer everywhere you read online even from people who have had it for a long time. I would try calling Marine depot as their CS is amazing. Of coarse if you want to see it thats up to you :)
Thank you for the reply. I have the up as high as it will go with the tube still in the return slot. The only additive I used was bottled bacteria to help kick off my cycle a month and a half ago. I'm running chemipure blue right now as the trouble shooting suggested carbon. Guess I'm going to have to do some more massive water chagnes. :/
The water draining noise is intolerable. Other than that, I think it's pretty good. It makes huge bubbles which doesn't really bother me but it makes lots of noise on the drain.
Great video, interesting and very professional. I've watched it 20 times, but it's always interesting
I love this video !! He really explain an a simple way !!! Absolutely great video !!! Thank you

Nice step by step, it's going to help anyone who sets up the skimmer, they can follow along easily.
Metrokat Nyc thanks glad you enjoyed it!

How does it compare to the reef octopus classic 1000 hob?? Thanks

Good review. I almost bought one for my breeding tank
Dee From Brooklyn it is a beast. What it was able to pull out the first day was amazing
Does the aqua Max create microbubbles in the display tank?
How many inches do the intake and out take stick out?
I just got one and the bubbles are overflowing and i can’t adjust it to slow down. 🤷🏽♂️. It just overflows the cup and i can’t even leave it on
Same here
Have you found a way to make this run dry I have had mine for one month and a half and it always runs wet only ran dry the first time.

EAT SLEEP Reef ya they recommend 8 to 8 and a half inches above water I noticed mine was a 6 right now gonna raise it and see if that works
fe Lope let me know how t goes. Good luck!! Where are you located?
I've had mine for almost two weeks and I cannot keep it from overflowing and blowing the lid off in addition to draining through the pipe. Any ideas?
Margaret Kamm sound like you have the cup way way to low or did you add any additives to tank like coral food?

Margaret Kamm yup the bacteria start will make it go crazy. Leave it offline for 1 week then try agin :) let me know how it goes.
I had the same problem, found a cure, tie a knot in the tube just above the silencer,it worked for me.
How quiet is this? (question applies to anyone who owns this)

It is actually very quiet in my opinion.
