so you are using a hob skimmer on an AIO aquarium? not enough room in the sump itself for a skimmer? trying to do this hobby on the cheap with a rimless I already have, but wanting to get equipment that will work in a larger AIO as well....

I bought this skimmer based on your review and I was so happy to have it but honestly I'm so let down by the amount of microbubbles honestly because of this issue its trash it produces great skimmer at the cost of trashing your tank with micro bubbles
Would you recommend the aquamaxx hob 1.5 or the reef octopus hob 1000?
Did you have any issues with gurgling noises and micro bubbles? I just got this same skimmer off marketplace and those r my only issues so far

Great product review. You mentioned that you could go wetter or drier. Just as clarification for a newbie, I want the skimmer to take out as much as possible so I thought wetter (lighter color skim waste, right?) was better than drier (darker color skim waste). I currently have an AquaMaxx FC-120 on a total of 115 gallons. To get more phosphates and nitrates out of the system, should it be darker or lighter with more frequent emptying of the cup?
Dry would be more of a (Dry foam) darker color. Takes a little bit longer to fill up the cup.
Wet would be a watery foam. (Wet foam) lighter color. Fills up the cup faster.
I'd say that the dry foam would be more concentrated and probably remove more stuff. But that's just what I would think. I'm no reefing pro.
What’s up bud hey would you still recommend this skimmer on the jbj 45g flat panel? Or is there a better option as of now. I appreciated great vids

Hi Thanks for the informative review and update. I’ve purchased one and it’s awesome. What did you end up doing about your return pipe? Mine is actually at the perfect height and runs quiet BUT because it sits right next to a divider in the overflow area, and due to the bulky elbow piece, it sits crooked. Can’t have crooked lol. So I’ve been trying straight pieces of longer pvc and various bends at the bottom but I’m still getting a gurgling sound from the output. Any ideas? Thanks!
Honestly been a while since I had mine I did remember it did take tinkering with the pipes and foam pads to make it work.
EAT SLEEP Reef Thanks. Yeah, I’m finding the quietest is with the stock setup so I’m going to try some repositioning to straighten the return pipe or tinker some more. I’ve also reached out to Aquamaxx for feedback.

How u compare this skimmer and reef octopus classic 1000?
Question: Just set mine up and it is acting almost too powerful on my 55G tank. It is creating a ton of water volume being pushed up into the collection cup and overflowing water back into the output side. The flow rate or volume that is being sent through the air nozzles is too much. It is bouncing the cover off the top of the collection cup and thats at full height. Any ideas?
How did you end up fixing this problem? I have the same.
@@erikwalker7817 you can put a air line tube and an air valve control knob to reduce the volume of air going into the skimmer reducing the pressure.
I like everything about this skimmer except it is so LOUD! The skimmer itself is loud and the draining noise is intolerable.

Quick question, where do you recommend putting the skimmer if the sump is in the back of the tank? I have 3 chambers in the back, first one is the sponge, second is the ceramic for bacteria and activated carbon and 3rd is the return pump. Thanks in advance.

After watching this video, I was sold on purchasing the Aquamaxx 1.5 for my IM25 Lagoon. I placed it on the right side chamber, but might move it to the left for easy access and maintenance (I have a 20g long on the right of my IM25). I am also planning to purchase the white pvc to extend the outlet. My 1.5 came with the Syncra 1.5 return pump which is a nice upgrade.
Would u still recommend this today? Thanks

Did you change the tube the Venturi yellow airline goes to? in the original video you said it attaches to the silence part with the longer tube but I see in this video its on the shorter one.
I HAVE MESSED PUTTING IN BOTH AND DIDINT NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. I WOULD SAY PUT IT IN THE LONGER ONE.
EAT SLEEP Reef okay one more thing, that clear plastic tube coming out of the top of the T pipe, did that come with the skimmer? I just got mine today and didn’t see that.
anthony zitaglio just it’s supposed to be the down pipe for the return I just put it there so I didn’t loose it. No need to have it though but it is in the box.
