IOAOI Nano50D skimmer review and set up

- Here's a review and how to set up the IOAOI Nano 50D protein skimmer for your reef tank. We set this skimmer up on a Aqueon 14G rimless cube aquarium with soft corals and a purple firefish. We bought the skimmer on Amazon for $50 on sale. No GPH stats for the pump.
Please note: read the instructions before setting up. It states the following;
1. Adjust water level by moving body up and down
2. open air intake valve to full open
3. Rotate collection cup to adjust water flow
4. Open sewage outlet on collection cup to prevent overflow for a couple of days. Overflow will drip back into aquarium.
5. Maintenance tips and troubleshooting are included in the instructions.

I bought this skimmer christmas eve off amazon. Its a little beast! I had a little pump noise and I messaged them with a video to see if it was normal, they IMMEDIATELY responded and said NOPE. They sent me a complete new one as a replacement. So now I have an extra lol.
Break in was normal, about 1.5-2 weeks. Make sure you open the air valve ALL the way during break in.
I was a little confused as to water level, but I learned that the sticker that says water level is not where the tank water has to sit, but where you need to adjust the water level to inside the skimmer. I have mine just above the line. The sticker is sitting level with the top of the glass in my waterbox 15 pen. This has completely eliminated micro bubbles.
Great skimmer for the price. I took the spare one into world wide corals and they are checking it out now. Hopefully going to be liking it as much as I do!
EDIT: Also yes the little hose is for overflow. I took the other valve they supplied and put it in the end and then closed it once I had the skimmer tuned properly. Nothing goes in the hose now.
Great info. I have opened the valve all the way since the second video for two days, but I didn't even think about the water level in the skimmer. I will adjust that today. Thanks for sharing, and happy reefing.
I just got this skimmer and decided to check if any video exists about this cute unit. Thanks for the video. In my opinion the second tube is for emptying the top container.
thanks for the comment and yes, the instructions say to uncap the line to the collection cup for the first two days of running with the air injection wide open. i decided to do this after i made the video. the skimmer works great. Happy reefing
Wondered about the IOAOI skimmer. I’ve got their nano return pump and it works pretty good!

I use this in a biocube 32 highly recommended was skimming dark skim day one. Was using biocube skimmer v2. Night and day and fits chamber 1

For $50 on Amazon can't beat it. Money well spent happy reefing
Mine has a bubbling problem even though I adjusted air flow in every angle and so water level. Anyone I can have your email so I can send the video for you to see better? Thank you
did you follow the start up instructions? also, it can take up to two weeks for the bubbles to mostly settle out. mine puts out a very minimal amount of bubbles. i don't think think there will ever be no micro bubbles using this skimmer. the instructions say to contact them via Amazon with any technical issues. Best wishes
AVOID: I bought one from Amazon and the pump died ten weeks later. Junk. No way to contact the manufacturer and no warranty as far as I can tell.
the instruction booklet says it has a two year warranty and to contact them via Amazon. let me know if you did and how it went. Thanks for the comment.
