  • The 98 jeep Cherokee to 2000? Had a problem with the instrument panel gauges completely going dead. The so called fix usually caused another problem. Here is the fix that I found on the internet and it works.

I just used your trick on my 2000 cherokee! thanks a ton! Time will tell if this was a good fix but i have power to my insturment gauges and no No Bus symbol!!! cleaned, a very slight twist and greased the connection. I was definitely a little concerned about twisting the prongs but it seemed to work well!

Great video, thanks for the tip!! This problem was only occasionally, then sometimes, now its frequent, time to do something about it.

Ok I’m really hoping this will help me. I have tried all the other so called fixes. I have no way of knowing if I have the new connectors though. Can you help with that? Also you cut both of these wires back by where the loom splits and twisted them with the shrink wrap on and then soldered them to the the other ends coming from the connector? Are these also twisted together?

What way do I twist the pins on the back right side of the cluster?

thanks for posting... I am a newb at automotive electrical. I would strip the wires and twist 'em just like a regular splice? then solder ?

ahh no twist the wires together with the insulation on them and solder the ends with insulation stripped away together. make sure no bare wires touch wrap with tape or shrink wrap.

great find... but what do you mean by twisted the wires? did you cut and twist the wires together.... or did you just twist the overlapping each other.... what happens the the ends of the wire do they go back to their original ports?

I cut the wire back were the dealer cut them to put on the new plug. I twisted then twisted the 2 wire together approx 3 inches worth and then resoldered. It's been since March of 2016 ad the gauges have worked perfectly ever since.

On my jeep I see a Black and white wire and a White and Black wire. Can you verify which ones I twist together? Solid Black with white strip or the Solid white with black strip?

TY G go to 3:28 on the video I'm not sure but I think it was the white wire with black. It should be very close to the violet/brown wire.

Their was 2 problems with the Jeep one was the connectors and that problem could be solved by simply twisting the male connectors so that they bind tighter with the female and the other problem was the wiring harness being replaced and the wires not being wrapped as described in my video.

Hello I couldn't see what you where highlighting .So I don't know which wires you said. Got a 1997 Wrangler no gauges or millage working . Everything else works, warning light and dash light all work. just nothing else

go back and watch this video again and at full screen. Pause or go back to 1:19 on the video show what two wire must be twisted together. You will have to cut these 2 wires from the plug IF THE PLUG WAS REPLACED. My other 98 jeep did not have the plug replaced and the pins just needed to be twisted slightly. A different problem.
Then go to 2:30 on the video to see where i got the fix for the instrument panel. Again go to full screen and pause each segment.
That's about all i can say except it's been almost a year and gauges have never stopped working.
