    AWESOME! Thanks so much for making this. I took a trip to the local salvage yard and found a bunch of great upgrade parts- the cluster being one of them. Best to practice on junk JEEPs first... :)

    You know what Mr Dalton sir. THank you for your service. I have been looking for more refined step by step in removing the dash, a lot of our fellow XJ "folk"uses words like, yall just need to do some yankin here an pull there, use a big flat and really get it in there... Here is a clear example of why your XJ's interior is in the condition it is, and proof that you have god damn standards and self respect. My XJ is in pristine condition, and your words like "pop" and step by step walk-through of which screw holds what for whatever reason suits me a lot better! I know this is a long messsage but FFS i almost had a stroke going through all those videos and I am NOT in the mood to follow the workshop manual W1-8 page screw here (refer to page 11 million 19p-5-2-33-31-123123-123-). THANK YOU! definitely subscribing to this mothereffer

    Very cool.. I have a 1997 Cherokee Sport HD, and my "cruise control" & "4 wheel drive" lights are out, so I'm pretty sure I need to replace the bulbs. This video really made removing the instrument less of a worry. I recently had the AC evaporator core and while the dash was off the heating core replaced as well as fixing the linkage of the defrosters done by a mechanic. $1400.00 which also included PA. State Inspection it didn't take anything , and flush the radiator and put in new coolant. The AC is back to working really good. We were able to see a pin hole in the core because we had added dye the year before. My Jeep only has 85,875 miles on it, 4.0 automatic. I hear these years of Jeeps are pretty much bullet proof. I did do the suspension a few years back running double leafs in the back and Reading Spring, springs in the front, all new bushings, new universals, axle bearings. I think my jeep will last me another 20 years lol. It is one tough SUV. I wanted manual shift but I had to go with automatic trans because Jeep did not make the heavy duty version with manual trans. Mine came factory with an engine and transmission oil coolers, high compression 4.0 in line 6 cyl, and 410 gears. And yeah I have to run high test gas and I get about 15MPG on a good day LOL... Thanks again for your video.. BTW, I like the factory gauge lighting...

      did you know there is actually a way to test the bulbs without pulling the cluster? and i love mine i've passed 300,000 miles on it and its still going strong, i recently lifted it 3 inches and swapped in a limited slip diff as well as a rear disk conversion

    • @SteelyPaw
      @SteelyPaw 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very cool Dalton.. Yes to check the cluster bulbs, i hold in the trip button and turn the key to on and it will test the entire cluster, I think you showed that here, I was watching like a hawk, LoL.. Your Jeep sound cool too. I've talked to a lot of people that say they have 300,000 miles and still going strong, 97 thur 2000 were good years for the Cherokee even with the little Jeep things that go wrong. I love my jeep too..

    Several years ago I had to replace heater core and after doing this the cluster would randomly stop working until it stopped working altogether. I cleaned connections and boom she was back, but now the fuel gauge goes from full to empty. Is that part of the cluster trip test mode or did something just crap out on me?

    My instrument cluster didn’t work and the red airbag light was illuminated for the last three days. All the other electrical components in the Jeep worked. I tried holding the trip reset and turned the ignition key to the ON position and the cluster started working. Freaking gremlins!

    Dude thanks half my lights are out so now I can fix that and change it to blue. Only thing I find weird is how would you have it show the true miles on the new dash cluster? Or would someone then be able to lie about how many miles a jeep has. I only ask in case I buy another jeep

    @Luke, the no bus means the dash is having trouble communicating with the computer, try pushing on the cluster first to see if it does anything, if not pull the cluster out and clean the connectors the best you can, if that still dosent work you may need a new cluster or you have a problem with the computer or wiring. as for the stereo it shouldn't affect the cluster in any way to the best of my knowledge

    Nice. It turns out, the "check engine" light has burned out in my 01 XJ Limited. It failed emissions today. Swell. That explains why it hasn't been on the past two years. I'm trying to keep it on the road, but it is a challenge. It threw 4 different codes.

    Hi -- I tried the diagnostic for the cluster btw I have jeep cherokee limited 1998 and what happens if the diagnostic worked does that mean the dash cluster is ok -- because my kilometer reading is not working and the gages go off and on and sometimes they don't even work -- do you think it just needs cleaning and not changing -- thank you for your help.

    • @dalton456
      @dalton456  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bad regulator/alternator possibly, take a voltmeter and put it on the battery while the engine is running, see what the voltage reads, if its anything more than 14.4-14.8 it is overcharging and will damage the electronics in the vehicle.

    • @KenSeeber
      @KenSeeber 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Parsons 18 I had to do this to install a new stereo. The center bezel pulls loose from the bottom edge. If the shifter is forward there is no room for the piece to come back. By pulling the shifter back you have plenty of room to work.

    • @umadbrew
      @umadbrew 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      97-01 cherokee clusters are plug -n-play. So yes a 98 would fit right in your 98 regardless of model. Any of the 97-01 clusters will.

    • @cutyou45
      @cutyou45 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      XJ is the Cherokee model designation within Chrysler. SE is a trim the cherokee came in such as Sport and Limited. SE was base model i believe, but as AyeR0N said the dash gauge clusters are in fact interchangeable between 97,98,99,00,01s

      the oil pressure needle could be from a few things. cluster may not be plugged in all the way or bad, perhaps the oil pressure sender is bad or clogged with debris. or the cluster may be bad. you can always check the cluster by running the self-diagnostics. i show how to do it on one of these videos.

    do you have a video on how to replace the heater core? or how to unclog a heater core?

    • @dalton456
      @dalton456  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +chris ehrhart i do not have a video on how to replace one, havent had one go bad and honestly it is just such a pain in the ass to do, in order to replace it you have to take the dash apart.
      now as far as unclogging it you can use air or water. basically you will remove both heater hoses, then hook up a water hose to the inlet hose. try to flush it through, then swap to the outlet and swap back and forth until the water comes out clear,
      if you want to use air you would use the same method as the water just with air instead, i wouldnt recommend using more than 20 psi or so though since most cooling systems are only made for about 16 psi of pressure.
      as far as your issue do you not have heat or is it leaking too?

    • @chrisehrhart2872
      @chrisehrhart2872 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No heat. Lines are clogged. I ran 20+ psi and nothing at either end cam out no leakes or wet floor board

    • @dalton456
      @dalton456  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is one somewhat last ditch effort, you can try to flush clr through the heater core, there is a possibility that it could eat the heater core or cause it to leak, i would not recommend letting it get into the cooling system either, so if that does unclog it you should flush the hell out of the core

    • @dalton456

    Didn't work for me my oil gauge needle never went up and also the lift gate light stayed on. I think THER is not enough power to work the needle gauges only enough power to run the dummy lights.

    Well let me save somebody time and money by telling people DO NOT TRY AND PUSH THE DASH PANEL OVER THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH!!!!!!!!!! You fill fuck up that rod and switch. TRUST ME I DID. If this dude looked at the switch it has a release button that allows that rod to be removed! DO NOT FORCE PANEL OVER ROD!

    1996 Jeep Cherokee can you can you swap from light panel to gauge panel

    • @dalton456
      @dalton456  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas White you can but from my understanding it's more involved. From what I was reading on the 96 and prior models you have to change the actual sensors on the motor for some of the gauges

    Hi Dalton: Thank you for your reply -- how can I check the connection? Would I have to remove the dashboard? Also, the speed sensor -- is that easy to verify? Can the connection be cleaned with WD40? I hate repeating myself but again, since the diagnostic worked ok does that mean that the cluster is still good...Thank you so much. BTW, your video was very helpful

    I was so bummed when I found out the mileage is stored in the cluster.

    • @dalton456
      @dalton456  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plastic that covers the gauges? Pretty much all you have to do is remove the instrument cluster like I showed and then there are some clear plastic tabs that you have to unclip and then you can remove it
