Feels like that kinda defeats the purpose of the series. At that point its just a normal shopping experience Which isnt bad, but idk if id say thats worth a series
Nice to see a real bloke with a modest budget looking for fun and practicality all year round. This series could easily become "I've got £12k looking for a sunshine toy" like most dealerships up and down the country (although usually more PCP normally). The Hornet is a cracking bike for his needs, Honda reliability and build quality for the shitty weather, being a 600 cheap to tax too.
I love this series! It's like an interactive game, guess what's under the veil, what will be the choice... Plus the best game we can play... looking at the classified (you know you all do that)! Plus the chemistry between Simon and Michael is developing good.
I like Marc's interaction, knowledge and enthusiasm in this one. He'd make a good presenter or bike TH-camr in my opinion. This one felt a little like Top Gear or something having the three of you debating together. Good job on introducing him to his next bike. I enjoy this series.
This is a great series - best one yet too as Marc was so good at explaining what he did and didn't like. He would make a great presenter actually, he was very comfortable in front of the camera and easy to listen to.
Listening to Mark talk about the Hornet is exactly how I felt testing my Bandit 650S for the first time! These 600-650 series bikes are just a hoot to ride.
Often call by the Superbike Factory Cafe as I'm local. Nice to wander around the bikes. I've ridden all those bikes, and for me, the Hornet has it. Fun, handles, and unbreakable engine. Perhaps a shame he didn't get chance to sample something other than an inline four.
great comments,73 old had over 50 bikes never wanted a Superbike always naked bikes so much fun ,it started In 1976 with that fabulous yamaha tt500 ,keepers now mv agusta 800 supermotard, t100 modded
Great series lads, massive well done 👍🏻. Us bikers are itching for a decent tv series like this, it’s so addictive watching likeminded people choose their next bike. Please push for this to be an hr long tv series featuring multiple riders with different needs and wants. Keep up the great work 👏🏻👏🏻
Mark is living my life in reverse. I started and still have an '02 Hornet 600f and have now recently purchased an '06 Fireblade. Great combination of bikes to have!
I think you should have selected the FZS600 instead of the FZ6. Better motor in my opinion, more torque down low and an indestructible engine, I'm biased cause I have one with 60000miles and no problems whatsoever. Loving the series guys really good job!
Cheap reliable commuter, I jump instantly to a Versys 650. Also the SV650 and for something a bit larger a Honda ST1100. The Versys and the SV650 have some windscreen and nice bag options if he needs to take some stuff to work or wants to go for weekend getaway. They also offer adequate power for his commute and are both rock solid in terms of reliability. The Honda ST1100 has built in protection and hard bags making great for commuting and light touring. Also, it is a bit sportier and offers more power which might be preferable coming off the Fireblade. While the Honda might be a budget stretcher the other two should offer no trouble coming in sub 3000 quid. Lets see what the boys put on offer. Didn't go with all liter bikes for commuting, thought the 650s would be enough and better on gas. Would never have thought of the Hornet, interesting choice. Doesn't really strike me as a commuter bike though.
Love this series! Please keep them coming. I think they will catch on. It's a really interesting way to get bikes that are forgotten and under appreciated on people's radar!
I'm surprised that a Honda Affica twin wasn't thrown into the mix - huge low down power, great stability on greasy roads, and will withstand the harshest winter abuse, and still clean up well. A totally different machine to the Fireblade that Marc keeps for his summer fun, so a whole different world to discover riding wise.
At a time when the price of everything is going skywards that’s three great bikes for not a lot of money. Had an early 600 fazer for a few years and loved it. Did Assen, two up with expanded panniers and tank bag and it never missed a beat. Fazer thou for me out of them three
Great episode I have just sold a Honda X11 and Honda Blackbird and wanted one bike that does it all so did a test ride on the new Moto Guzzi Mandela. I was shocked how much I did not enjoy it. I walked through the showroom and came to Honda section. I spotted a Honda CB1000r plus with panniers. I bought it straight away. This is the point, once you are used to a make of bike their is something about it so familiar even though they are different in ergonomics. I had it delivered and it has brought a massive smile to my face. Great show thank you.
Another excellent episode, thanks and keep up the good work. I have a FZS1000 , I use it for work but I get why the hornet is a wimmer here for the Fun factor that Marc was looking for.
I've got a 2007 GSXR1000 and a 2018 CB650F. That Honda is so fun. I love the GSXR, but it is unsuitable for road use really. I use the GSXR most of the time for everything, commuting, shopping ride outs etc. But when I get on that inline 4 650 and ride it like I stole it, it's such a good road bike. And you know when you've hit triple digits, which is good for keeping that precious fun licence. I sadisticly even like the lack of gear indicator, it's a pure experience and you ride it by feel. The handlebars are all over the show compared to the gixxer, but it's just so engaging
I didn't think I'd like this program but it was very pleasant and meaningful, its pretty difficult to pick the bike for you and seams mark has done it and on a budget, excellent.
Nice series & some interesting bike choices , but 3k commuter and winter hack and no one picked a maxi scooter ! Bit out there but would of been better than 2 bikes but different capacities really he had a Fazer or a Hornet to choose from. I know you pick them blind maybe a rock paper scissors game to settle who can pick what brands?
Maybe we'll make it where we can only choose different manufacturers - the first one to pick a Yamaha (for example), shouts it out then the others have to choose alternatives.
Hi. It seemed like you were trying to talk him out of the hornet, bet the salesperson loved that. I had one of these (1999 model) and absolutely loved it...but I'd thoroughly recommend putting a set of Racetech gold valves in the forks like I did. They were worth their weight in gold, transforming the bike into a weapon. I did the superbike course on this around Eastern Creek raceway in Sydney. Bloody awesome!
Neither of us could believe our ears when we asked him how his ride went, we both rather obviously thought our choices were far more suitable! Thansk for the tip too - I'll pass it on. Cheers, Michael
Hornet is light and nimble, pair that with the direct feeling of carburated engine and you get a mega fun bike. I owned a 2006 one for 2 years sold it and bought a 2013 Hornet, tho it's a better newer bike still doesn't have that feeling like the old model did, the newer the bike is the more artificial it feels and even 200HP can't help it. No matter the bike i will own in the future i plan on buying an old but low milage Hornet and keep it as long as i can.
Think this is a great series. Sometimes you can get so bogged down in your own preconceptions it’s great that someone gives you a different prospective.
This is an enjoyable series since I’m also looking for a new bike. One remark: you never mention if the bike has ABS or not. Nowadays I would never ride a bike without ABS, for me it’s a no go!
You're right on them being subjective. It's been an interesting process and I'm learning about what I think I'd like for the criteria in mind isn't necessarily what our candidates have in mind! Cheers, Michael
I've owned a 1200 Bandit , dynojetted,, 1200S Bandit, FZS1000 and Hornet 900. Had an Ohlins and the jets done on the Fazer and it was a rocketship, amazing touring bike too. Rear wheel bearings go at 20k miles. Best bike I ever owned. The Hornet was a better bike than the Bandits, smoother, better build quality, and more rideable.
I had a fz6s. Struggled to do 35mpg without trying. Rear pegs stupid high.Plus point was a centre stand. CBF600 I have now defeats the Hornet because of this.
I had the 2002 Hornet 600 FS for nearly 20 years till it was stolen last year. I would recommend this bike to anyone who likes riding. It became a part of me after riding it for so long. I knew all its little foibles and quirks and yes, it was quite difficult to start, particularly in cold weather. But some Iridium plugs and a good blast of choke solved that. And they handle like they're on rails, in most weathers. Great bike, totally miss it, sob sob.............
I love this series and BBS vid's in gen. Find it interesting to see how the "Star's"? Make their choices (or not,in most cases). Why did no-one suggest a twin or triple (Price range, maybe?) as Marc sounded like a staunch straight 4 guy? Still a great vid though,Thanks. I hadn't watched to end of vid. yet, he still wasn't offered one though.
Very interesting video well made and presented thanks. Everyone likes different bikes but refreshingly no adventure stuff. He's riding to work on tarmac after all.
I paid £1000 for my "winter hack" 18 months ago, and it came with free road tax, exemption from MOT and London ULEZ charges, and cheap classic insurance. It's a 1980 Suzuki GS550L, simple, reliable and fun to ride.
Enjoy watching these and this one in particular. I had a blade and bought a ktm390 duke as a second bike but ended up having more fun on the road on the little naked bike which I think Mark might find with the hornet. I ended up selling the blade for a Ninja 1000 as its almost as fast and much more comfortable but still have the 390 6 years later and still love it. The hornet was the perfect bike for Mark to go with his Blade. Well done guys. Looking forward to the next episode already
Thanks for the support Paul, glad you're enjoying. Sometimes it's the less intimidating the bike, th emore fun you can have. I rode the new Hornet yesterday but before I got on it I though it'd be bland and underpowered... wrong, it was a hoot! I want to go out on it again today. Cheers, Michael
@@bennettsbikesocial I'm actually booked in for a test ride on the new hornet tomorrow but may have to put it off because of the weather. It seems like the perfect upgrade for my 390 duke. Shame about the looks though.
Please notify when/if Donnington branch of Superbike Factory will allow test rides for regular customers ! Good interaction between those involved....this series already improving. Mark was good at conveying his riding & bike needs. Hornet fan/owner here btw 👍🏍
Brilliant stuff guys! When I heard the description of his bike needs I equally thought Fazer 1000 first gen… I have one as my daily rider…. One of the best bikes as a low maintenance easy upkeep bike with all fastenings in stainless steel… 👍😊👍
I had a FZ1 for my first street bike. Great commuter and weekend fun bike. Then i got a Sprint ST and I stopped wanting to even to hop on the Yamaha. That 1050 triple is a great engine....great low end growl and the high end will sing. Love that bike.
First time to the channel, and I REALLY enjoyed this video. Buying used and the subjective nature of what "floats your boat", was very well explored. The answer seemed clear by his reaction. It had to be the hornet.
should have gone for the fazer 1000,( pref the s2 fuel injected versions) really great bikes and very under the radar, brilliant all round machines, engines will run forever if you look after them with regular oil/filters
Lucked onto this. Very similar situation. Fireblade is my fun bike and the Vespa is my winter hack. 😀 Not quite enough power though but very cheap to run.
1:22 “What have you got in your garage” “Some shit tools and a set of ladders and a knackered lawnmower” 😂 Thanks for new video I love these far more than I should
@@bennettsbikesocial this month, a street triple s, and a ninja 1000 sx - love both - always looking mind 😄 I fancy something electric and feel need to try a BMW 🥸
Thanks! We've got a bit of a gap at the moment. Filming the next one in a couple of weeks, but it won't be live until the end of the month. Cheers, Michael
Another enjoyable episode. On a different matter, I think Bennett’s are missing an opportunity overseas. I live in Spain where biking is massive and as far as I know there are no insurance companies offering multi bike insurance. We have direct line here (Linea Directa) who operate in more than one country.
When comparing the FZ1 to FZ6 the first thing you should have pointed out is the 2006 FZ6 is FUEL INJECTED that’s huge! Come on guys 😊the FZ1 has a carburetor
Fazer's are great 'winter hacks' from my experience. I prefer the Fz6 cheaper, fast enough, better mpg. I think they look great (but i'm biased). Prob better off getting a fuel injected version though. Fz6 gives the option of riding her kindly keeping revs below 6k or gunning it. My FZ6 has served me well through some awful weather.
Hornet fuel economy and tank range is pretty poor. Fz6 took a bit to get used to from fzs600 as the low down torque isn’t really there, but it is a great bike once you learn how to ride it, commute, and track day once or twice a year, it’s been brilliant, 2 years and 25k miles so far.
I tend to struggle with the logic of buying an ‘old’ winter hack for this kind of money. £3k for a bike that’s going to be pretty much worthless after 3-years riding suggests you’re happy to write that sum off. In which case, you’re better off going PCP on a new bike. You don’t own it, don’t have to be emotionally attached, get the benefit of a warranty, new bike reliability, and the most modern safety features that would make all year round riding a more enjoyable experience. I do this with a Tracer 9 GT (and have done for the last two iterations), which leaves my other bikes for Sunday best.
Great shout - we could have easily offered him a dozen machines of various shapes and sizes. There was even a Triumph Trophy on our shortlist! Cheers, Michael
Interesting series as always. Curious why they were all inline 4s. Did he say that's what he wanted? I feel like a twin 700-900 would be perfect for what he's trying to do. I rode an FZ6S for several days and felt the same as him, the engine is kinda meh. It's heavy and doesn't turn well. By contrast, my SMR510 with half the horsepower felt twice as fast most of the time. A bike that doesn't make sense, but is so much fun
I have been ridding japanese bikes since I was 14 years old . I bought my first non japanese bike at the age of 50 . I immediately found that it was the bike that gave me the most pleasur,e. This being said , I unfortunately also found out it was the less reliable and the most expensive to maintain. Luckily , there are forums that helped me a lot to be able to repair it at very low costs . I do honestly believe BMW s are amongst the greatest bikes , but they are amongst the most costly if you want to clock 100 s 1000 miles with them. I am riding a R 1200 R 90 th anniversary. Really love this bike .. If you have a limited budget and can't fix it yourself, stay away from them . But that s just me ..

Would be good for them to pick first, then the other three pick based on the feedback… and the initial choice too.

Best series on the TH-cams! keep em coming, please!
marc would love my fazer1, did a front fairing delete with a single 7’ headlight it definitely made the experience better for me.
Since he’ll be riding it in winter conditions ABS would be a must have.
Bought a 2009 CB1000R for £2800 recently (with topbox fitted) - would be a good choice here as my buying priorities are similar to Marc's 👍👍
A another possibility would have been an Aprilia shiver. Very underrated bike and go for low price.
Nice choice, I did look at one but it wasn’t quite right for him. Cheers, Michael
GREAT SERIES LADS! looking forward to the next episode
Thanks Ian, we’re shooting the next one in about 10 days. 👍🏻
Great Show , who would of expected that result, not really a fan of the Hornet looks wise but makes me think why not try one! 🤔
should have gone for the fazer 1000,( pref the s2 fuel injected versions) really great bikes and very under the radar, brilliant all round machines, engines will run forever if you look after them with regular oil/filters
Lucked onto this. Very similar situation. Fireblade is my fun bike and the Vespa is my winter hack. 😀 Not quite enough power though but very cheap to run.
1:22 “What have you got in your garage”
“Some shit tools and a set of ladders and a knackered lawnmower” 😂
Thanks for new video I love these far more than I should
Ha! We're just 6 lotto numbers away from the dream garage... what would be in yours, money no object?
Cheers, Michael
@@bennettsbikesocial this month, a street triple s, and a ninja 1000 sx - love both - always looking mind 😄
I fancy something electric and feel need to try a BMW 🥸
Great stuff, I like the Fazer..and the other bikes too :) greatings from Belgium.
This is turning into a great wee video series.
We have direct line here (Linea Directa) who operate in more than one country.
best series on youtube, love this
Cheers! Really appreciate that.
Michael
Well done Aude, knew you'd come up trumps 👍🏻👍🏻
Good idea, I like this series. 5th gen VFR
When comparing the FZ1 to FZ6 the first thing you should have pointed out is the 2006 FZ6 is FUEL INJECTED that’s huge! Come on guys 😊the FZ1 has a carburetor
BMW F800S or ST ? Either way plenty to choose from for between 2-3k, fantastic show and keep up the good work 👍
Fazer's are great 'winter hacks' from my experience.
Great series, guys. Keep them coming.
How's do you get superbike factory so quiet ? Every time I'm there, it's heaving
That's easy! An old GS!
Good bloke, good advice, good work, boys.
Awesome series.. love it, keep it coming
Just stumbled over the channel love it.
SV650. low end torque he wanted, short flickable frame great for short quick rides. who cars how dirty it is in winter so its great.
Great shout - we could have easily offered him a dozen machines of various shapes and sizes. There was even a Triumph Trophy on our shortlist!
Cheers, Michael
Really enjoying this series :)
Keep them coming. Thanks!
Not that i'm biased at all, but yhe 900 hornet is a stunning machine in every way.
I want to go to the UK just to visit this store. Great job
Great idea of these series!
Brilliant episode again could you post the route they use Would be good to try it out
Thanks v much!
Sure. I’ll find the route and post it.
This series is better than top gear 👍👍👍
