Hear, hear. Berni Wrightson on Batman was always going to be something special and so was delivered. I belive they brought Deacon Blackfire back a while ago, couldn't imagine how that could have worked.

I like the "conquer the bat to destroy his own personal fear" motivation. Wish we got to see that in The Dark Knight Rises instead.

Me too. It really emphasises Bane's own internal conflict and mental state, which is really fascinating and if Bane is ever reintroduced on film, I hope that they explore Bane's psyche and personal conflict regarding his own fear, not to mention his own motivations to beak Batman, with the aid of an army and only use his own intellect and strategic genius. I still really like Dark Knight's Bane as well.

Wow I never knew Doc Toxin could have been Bane’s name. Really highlights how he was created to be a evil Doc Savage

As much as I dislike Tom King's run on Batman, the moment where Bane kills Alfred has to be the only time since No Man's Land that I felt Bane was a truly terrifying and effective villain. Can you imagine how much more Batman would have been broken in Knightfall if Bane had broken Alfred's neck just before the fight that breaks Batman's back?
On second thoughts, never mind. I don't want to imagine that, I love Pennyworth too much for that. 😥

@@SalazarKnight Thank you for making all these great videos! I'm a bit of a student of the form, and going through Batman's different eras gives a paradoxically specific and wide history of superhero comics' history. And you make a lot of observations I could never notice myself... I can tell you put in the work to make truly interesting videos, and I want you to know it's appreciated! Honestly you are doing work that in many ways pushes past the precedents of quality set by other youtubers.

Great video! It's funny when Batman was on Venom he became mentally slower, neglecting his reading and studies. Yet Bane on Venom doesn't seem to lose any of his keen mind. I actually think Bane is superior to Bruce but his downfall is not having Bruce's sense of justice and empathy

There's an ancient Indian folklore tale about bats
In it, bats were originally unhappy birds that preyed to become humans. Instead they got human-like faces, hair on their skins and teeth in their mouths; becoming neither men nor birds.
I cannot help but seeing this in both Batman and in Bane. Almost like two sides of the same coin

Thank you for another excellent delve into the Batman mythos. When this came out I was blown away with just how good the character and concept was, finding myself completely emmersed by the story line and just how well the bat books came together to create a real sense of continuity and easy to follow storytelling. This was a real high watermark in the comic's history. After Knightfall I eagerly awited the return of this character but subsequent treatments have been progressively uninspiring and wholly forgettable, all to rarely we see Bane as the master strategist as was originally scribed and much more akin to the frankly embassing vegetable version seen in (shudder.) Bat man Forever.

    Bane:
Now I am complete. And only one thing stants in my way. A creature cloacked in a nightmare, as the Batman dissapeares into the night. I will follow him into the abyss, I will meat his gaze. And I will destroy him. I will watch him, I will study him, if I am to rule this city, I must first understand it. The Batman is Gotham city and when I truly know him only then will I understand this city. One day you will know my name Batman and on that day, you will beg for mercy. And Gotham will be mine.

Bane in my honest opinion is a very cunning villian. He may brute but there is so much more to him then that. Most depictions have have a mumbling monster. But he can be a towering giant who is both brains and brawn.

    • @SalazarKnight

It is nit helped by the fact that most depictions of Bane portray him as a thug with muscles and no cunning. And even when they do make him cunning, (DKR Bane), he is not Latin American. Only depictions to get him right 100% are video games.

Whether they admit or not, I could never be disabused of the notion that the original Killer Croc arc did not inspire Knightfall. Just too many similarities. Also, recall that Croc really pushed Batman to the limit; he defeated in combat multiple times and put a mental strain on Batman which manifested itself in his strained relationship with Dick Grayson and his increased intensity.

DC really forgot that thing is actually smart and actually can fight Batman on his own without any villains help or being a bodyguard / Lackey. It breaks my heart that the movies can't get it right the only place that got him right was in Young Justice Arkham Origins the movie Justice League Doom that's it every other media has portrayed him as a joke.

Until seeing this video I never reqlly liked Bane. I didn't see anything interesting about him philosophically (Joker tests Bruce's moarlity, Catwoman; his temptation, Riddler; his intellect... so Bane tests what? His stregnth? Doesn't seem that interesting)
But now I see he is a very interesting character, becauseaybe the best way to inetrpret him is by having him be the the man Batman cannot beat. Maybe once the drugs are off, and his addicet mind is demaged
Maybe Batman can't beat Bane, bue he could beat the man underneath the mask.

He was pretty decent in Arkham Origins; at least to the end, then they had to turn him into the dumb brute he was portrayed as in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. I usually like Dini's writing for the Batman mythos, but it's obvious he has no direction on how to write Bane correctly and accurately.

I like rhymes ok here are reasons why Bane hates the Batman the batmobile slammed hard and fast into him back on Arkham prison Asylum.
Batman destroyed the remaining canisters of the green Titan formula rounded up and had Bane locked up for a little while . Batman got his back broken an got powers from Superman then Bane had everything broken talk about getting even with your enemy .
