  • Sitala or Koala sampler? Both apps have some similar features, however they were both designed for different styles of workflow. So choosing between them is probably easier than you think.
Sitala and Koala sampler are iOS universal app and are available for both iPad and iPhone. You can find links to both apps further down. Btw, sitala is cross platform compatible with the desktop version, which is FREE, and that link can also be found further down.

There are lots of things I like about Sitila but as a whole I’m not sure it’s the app for me or not. I bought it anyway, and I will continue messing around with it to form an opinion. There’s definitely something to be said about the simplicity and ease of use though. Mapping it to an Akai drum pad, with each out routed through different effects in AUM sounds fantastic.
Also for drum apps with limited connectivity (Drumlab for example) it’s great to be able to record a loop and have Sitila auto chop it for me and map it to the pads.
Thanks for the quick overview, Jakob!

Koala is a modern classic. It has almost every function I look for in a sampler. The one function it’s missing would be a “mute” group (rather than mute sample) function. I’m the laziest beat maker in the world because I’ve never had the patience to sequence, chain sequences or use lol..”song mode” 🥱Mute groups 4 life.
I think when it comes to iOS samplers the ease of use and how quickly I can navigate, chop and switch menus are what I’m looking for. I like Koala’s auto chop page because I use the old Akai’s (s900 and s1000) and also use Koala as a “Recycle” type program-chop in Koala then sample into the Akai’s. I guess another dope function Koala could add would be to use the pads to chop like on JJOS and assign chops to pads.

Thanx, Jakob, for this video. I just checked it out: you CAN edit slices! (maybe new version? - just purchased) If you tap in automatic slice, left and right blue arrows will be shown and you can edit them. The really good thing on this is, that the arrows will rest on next automatic slice point. So, you can play several slices on one pad after another like one longer slice. Nice!

Nomenclature is important. i think a lot of confusion for 1st timers stems from these "overlapping" categories (they don't) in "samplers".
It just gets boring (or detrimental to sales) for manufacturers to make the distinction between samplers, sampling grooveboxes (with sequencing), synth grooveboxes, sequencers and sample players (no custom samples). It gets to the point where companies need to say their samplers samples. Then there's also the depth of the ability to twist samples, but it already went south when abonding those distinctions.

Points of contention is your grammar point. Each point refers to the argument you’re making, which as a whole is your contention, or set of contentions. So “points” is plural and the general term, contention, is singular.
You capture very clearly the differences from Koala, which are really significant. In the end, Sitala does not compete with Koala. The apps serve different purposes. Thanks for the rundown.

Sitali is great but the shape button is so messed up.
It will make you deaf if you try to get a short attack.
It will spike the audio extremely loud. That is not what a envelope should do. Try it with a long one shot like a chord or pad.
Told them many times. This is a major flaw that they need to fix.
Other issue, a midi mapped pad doesn’t select it.
Sitali is slow in respons. If you change a knob within a second after selecting a pad you will change the previous pad.
And the icloud integration does not work mostly. It will show empty folders when samples are there. ,
swiping for selecting is the worst gesture when you can do it with a single tap left/right.
Also the same gesture action is used for start and end point.
He needs to fix these major flaws and it would be a great app. Too bad it does not listen to mostly valid arguments.
Swiping is for browsimg and searching if you not know where to go.
If you know what you want now. The next sample. Swiping is simply not a gesture made for this.
It’s slow, and uses resources they should use to fix the sluggish knobs that start to react 2 second after a pad selection.

@@JakobHaq Ah, I was scrolling and scrolling through your videos but couldn’t find it, thanks for the link! ;) Cool video, just saw it. Inspiring me to build something too, something smaller though 😋 probably a mono synth or a filter effect.

Could you elaborate and list the features you feel are missing. I’m pretty sure that the dev will be watching this space.

Saying an app sucks doesn’t help anyone, rather suggest what you’d like to see :)

I’m not a deer I’m a MOOSE. And I love koalas. I’m gonna watch this video with SO MUCH BIAS it’s not even funny. Like I hate siturla or whatever it is before this even starts. In fact, I’m gonna go, blah blah blah the whole time ur not talking about koala.
