Can't get enough of these types of videos Jakob by far my fav! I first came across chowtape when researching plugins for lofi and OMG I was blown away from day 1 :) I gotta get this guy on the roundtable podcast!
While I’ve found you both in the same place….Do you think either of you could make a monthly round up video? Like every month, one vid that briefly covers all the new music apps that have been released?
@@neoskruff99 I have a newsletter which has links to new apps and app discounts each week, it also has links to mobile music tutorial videos like Jakob's. But between Jakob, Soundtestroom and Jade Starr most apps are covered individually. Both Jakob and I do however do an annual app round up showcasing our favorite apps of the year at the end of every year.
Love how you been digging a little deeper in your videos, talking to developers, asking about any issues, etc. really gives a nice full picture of things.
He's also helping to keep app prices down by offering this as what a new user can start out with, so other developers have to come correct if they want to enter the mobile ecosystem💪
I'm very new to this space, new to making music in general, your channel has been INCREDIBLE to get me started. I finger all the apps now because of you and your potatoes 🥔
Hej Jakob! Thanks for your videos! I wouldn't find anything from App store without your curation. Basically my whole iPad app collection is from your videos, starting with AUM. Speaking of broken algorithms, youtube never suggest me your videos, even when I have liked and commented often. But I see your polls though, and remember "ah, what's new in mobile music making?"
My god I love this guy. Small team projects that truly allow space for human interaction and user feedback are the best way to drive music making technology evolution in the right direction. People like Jatin are invaluable to keep the momentum of that "wind of change" seeking to empower us all by giving us easy access to technology.
Thanks Jakob, as ever you make the best ipad music videos. I absolutely love tape effects, so looks like I'm off to the app store later. I might just have to build an electric piano sound in drambo, add distortion and tape emulation for some 70's scuzzy goodness! Kudos to Jatin.
This developers apps are truly great! And free!? BYOD is now my go to distortion for guitar, I bypass the cab sims to go to others I own but they are good too! Haven’t watched Jakob Haq in quite some time, but he’s pretty great too! To see that this video released probably right around the time I discovered BYOD is pretty cool!
Jakob! I’m very happy with my M1 MacBook Air, it has everything i need to run Ableton Live and the plugins i paid for AND was dirt cheap. There may be a number of M1 MacBook Airs on the used market as Apple has recently trimmed the buy-back price for M1 MacBook Airs to only $400. Apple is always pushing “new” stuff so even the recent stuff seems “old”. (You could also get an M1 Mac Mini and enjoy the same success!) This means you could get a used M1 MacBook Air (or M1 Mac Mini) and use it with a nice DAW… but operate it from your iPad over Apples Sidecar (Apple’s solution to getting Mac/iPad to work together)… so you can keep pacing around the room while using a genuine Mac!
Thanks for the info on how to work these apps! The BYOD was daunting but now it is intriguing! Great interview! Think of all the great free apps there could be if more students took this guys approach! Thanks for the apps, Jatin, and for sharing your story with Jakob! Thanks Jakob for sharing Jatin’s story with us! 😸
This is freaking awesome! New Sub, during the shutdown I found a cheap green backdrop with some extra tripod stands I happen to have, a $9 app & 2 outdated iPad Air 2's we bought used years earlier. My 2 younger daughters both under 10 made killer stop-motion videos & green-screen images. This year they are getting legit upgrades, Including a cheap but nice for intro PYLE Usb studio mixer
Awesome video and free apps are always great for people with a tight budget like me! Jatin sounds like a very friendly guy and i think that the best apps come from people that also make their own music so big thumbs up for the both of you.
Its Agonizer synthesizer, mage ny Kai Aras and me. Everything you need to know about it can be found here! th-cam.com/play/PLvNQD1EpaiNN_ogBisraD0SEM_wm_Rtj3.html
@@JakobHaq Nice, you really got some great sounds out of it. I especially dig that lead sound! I’m interested to know what’s going on there. How are you getting that unstable feel to it?
The problems with licensing sound similar to what happened with porting over VCV into miRack. Dev had to talk to every developer and use the version of the code with the compatible license. Would be nice if there was a good solution to make it easier. Open source has a lot of benefits, especially for one man teams.
Great video, thanks. What is it that excites you about Surge? I had a quick listen, and I like the sounds in Gadget better. But I have not gone into depth. Are there some particular sounds Surge is brilliant at?
You need to look way deeper. I’d say that Surge is good at making almost any type of sounds because it offers a lot of different synthesis engines. It’s got 12 various oscillator types including stuff like classic, FM, Wavetable, String and even audio input just to name a few. . It also has a huge bank of various filter types including a waveshaper. The modulation souped up too and the LFOs includes a DAHDSR envelope. LFOs can be split and used for individual scenes (each patch has two scenes). The synth also has a good amount of nice sounding effect modules. . You really have to look into the manual to truly grasp the depth of Surge. It’s a sound designers wet dream and it’s free. On top of that, the project is “Alive” thanks to new things being contributed and introduced by its dedicated open source devs. . I admit that I’m not your most common consumer. As a sound I designer never get synthesizers for the sounds that they contain, I get synthesizers for the sounds I can make with them. However, in the case of Surge … you don’t really need to make your own. The synth comes packed with over 2800 presets! And they’ve all been made by dedicated members of the Surge community and many of those patches are really good.
@@JakobHaq thanks and good answer. I will look deeper, though if I like it I then have to add a laptop to my live rig. Have you got plans to do a video on how you use it? I like to program sounds too, but my main focus is the music rather than the tech. If I did proper evaluations of every option I would be a full time evaluator! Love your channel.
wow thise are really cool plugins, wondering didn't know about them ... BYOD is absolutley amazing ... btw great i dea with love "tip jar" inside apps, already sent big iap tip to author, he deserves it !

They care about privacy unless you develop apps for their empire. 🤣 These apps/plugins rule, thanks for bringing light to them all!
is it so? i’ve been using Kick and Tape (as sell as BYOD) plugins in some projects from start to finish, haven’t noticed any pop-ups requiring me to buy anything. Tip Jar is present, but no more than that
Incorrect. They’re all completely free. Four of them include “Tip Jar” IAP options which are optional. You don’t need to pay anything in order to use the apps. Nothing is locked behind paywalls. I refer to the tip jar options at 21:11 in this video.
@@JakobHaq I WAS REFERRING EXACTLY to Tip Jar as you say at 21:11, for full free I mean FULL free with every hypotetic in app / expansion purchase free. Tip jar is an in app purchase NOT FREE. So it is NOT 100%free as you say.
How is the presence of a tip jar a cost? Yeah, the developer is hoping you will send him a couple bucks if you like the app but he’s not restricting the app if you don’t. What the what?
I’m packed with links!

Great stuff Jakob. Huge fan of Jatin’s apps. People may overlook them because they’re free, but they are top class in terms of sound and innovation.
Thanks G! I can’t wait to see what Jatin has in store for the next one!

Great musical intro! And great vid too (obviously) ^^
