    Can the MPC be taken to the park, cafe, garden, toilet, bedroom, on a flight? MPC is great and Iconic. Koala is on a whole new level. That's my opinion, to each his own. At the end of the day each should use what's best for them. No need for beef.

      @boomboombaby9140 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The sound is thin though even if you use the same exact instrument they aren’t as rich as on the MPC .

    • @drunkenstylus
      @drunkenstylus ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@boomboombaby9140 that doesn't have any iota of truth to it at all. The output you hear solely depends on the quality of your DAC and/or your headphones/speakers.

      @@drunkenstylus have you done it ? The sound in the koala is flat , the mpc puts out a warmer sound . I tried to use the koala sampler in a clutch and had to remake the beat over because the artist and engineer wasn’t happy . When I finished we played the same beat side by aside and the koala beat was thinner while the mpc had range , dept and of a much higher quality. On the koala the higher the volume the more the drums would clash also the instrument the mpc stayed balanced.

    • @drunkenstylus
      @drunkenstylus ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@boomboombaby9140 Yes I have. I use both devices( Koala on a Samsung Tab S) and the sound quality is great from both. The context in which you have contrasted "Flat" and "warmer" in regards to sound recording and production terminology proves to me that you are probably capping or don't know what the terms you are using mean. "Flat" is used to describe EQ (settings usually) default when all gain is at 0db which a spectrum analyzer would display as a "flat" curve. "Warmer" is generally used to describe sound produced by analog gear ( vinyl or cassette tape or sounds running through an analog desk like a Neve or SSL mixer) or earlier digital devices like the E-mu SPs or Akai MPCs due to distortion in the sound caused by the lower sampling and bit rates. If what you are saying is true about the sound quality then you probably have a faulty device or you are doing something else wrong in the process. Have a nice day.

    • @boomboombaby9140
      @boomboombaby9140 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@drunkenstylus I don’t believe you because it’s a fact that if you take the same sound and put it on both mpc or the koala sampler the mpc will produce a higher quality of sound. The drums sounds and instruments sounds fuller on the mpc than the koala or any app. I played snare drums in high school so I know what I’m talking about. I’m saying flat like thin no sound texture, the koala sounds good until you put it next to a mpc . I have rocket 5 monitors and Sony studio headphones I can hear it . If what you say is true I wouldn’t have to take my mpc with me when I travel . I bought my house and my bmw 745 li from producing so don’t tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. I finance my lifestyle off music .

    I have both. The biggest feature Koala offers the MPC can’t? Drag and drop. Drag and copy. Drag and move both samples and sequences. I’ve had MPCs since the 2000 series days and never been able to work as fast as koala. The very first day I had koala I made a couple of sequences fully put together and bounced down that actually got used. MPC Has more powerful filters and obviously effects and synth plugs. But I can’t lay on the couch and make a beat on my MPC. It needs to be on a flat surface. Also, the Koala can read and store directly on your iCloud ending up organized with all your other audio files. Could go on. They both have strengths but if you already have an IPad Pro. Good video, and I enjoy the comments.

    To be fair, a person could also add a bunch of gear to their MPC setup that would raise costs as well. Add a midi keyboard, an external mixer, a microphone, and studio monitors, and your MPC went from $1,400 to $2,400.

    MacroMind's MusicWorks was the first to implement the digital version of a piano roll in 1984. MPC wasnt quite out yet. The analog piano roll goes back to the 1880s for anyone interested. The digital version actually matches the parameters in midi of the physical characteristics of the original ones.

      that is some cool old MIDI stuff, but the first commonly used digital "piano roll" type interface predates MIDI and is the "Page R" sequencer on the Fairlight CMI Series II from 1980
      I saw a recent demo of modern tunes played on an old working player piano with actual piano rolls (some places still make them) and the level of expression was very impressive, but it's a real niche thing these days with the Yamaha Diskklaviers and other more moden approaches to automated pianos taking over

      Agreed. I love both. For getting quick ideas out literally anywhere, Koala is the undisputed champ. Do you have all the options that an MPC has? Nope. Does MPC have all the options that Ableton or FL or any other DAW has? Nope. But these aren’t apples to apples comparisons anyway. And this new Koala mixer is something else. You can flesh out complete ideas and export easy to DAW. I personally love Koala and for $14 I’ve spent on it is unlike anything else. (let’s be honest 80% of adults in the entire world already have a smart phone out of necessity so including that in the price is just silly). Finally, Koala is developed by one dude who has been so receptive to feedback and updates. I feel much much better about supporting him than I do inMusic (bye bye Moog ✌🏽).

    I use a 10 yrs OLD iPad (Air2 €40) that works with KOALA, AUM and LOOPY PRO (all latest versions) running at the SAME time. MiniLabMK2 plus a Korg PadKontrol as controllers.
    Adding ATOM2 (advanced pianoroll), SAMPLR, whatever + sum free FX and such, you can create an MPC killer and it still is MUCH cheaper.
    And if the CPU can’t handle this, buy an extra iPad like I did 😅 (iPad Air2013 32gb for €25). I still use my faster iPhone XR (which I got for free) for some gigs, but the screen is to small.
    PS: MPC didn’t invent PianoRoll. It was invented in the 1800s and in the 80’s it was already used by Cubase o.a. I used it first since I stept from trackers to FruitLoops 3
    I think MPC didn’t have piano roll till ten or fifteen years ago.
    Still a useful video though! Thx 🙏

    what are you talking about, a koala sampler for example is 15 bucks and a new ipad mini 2 sealed is 110 bucks, KZ planar headphones, and now you can record video from the screen, take any sample and create... but the MPC needs to be connected to power , technically serviceable, since it has physical knobs and pads, and the Cirrus logic chip and amplifiers from the iPad are smart enough for playback, and this MPC is exactly the same electronic device, it’s not a classic like the MPC 60, MPC 3000, MPC 500, which was greatly underestimated in its time... so friend, I don’t understand why you need a midi controller or an external sound card in the koala sampler.

    Use koala sampler as an iaa in garage band for drums . Use GarageBand for your instruments and for auv3s . After you rearrange your beat export it , open up koala import audio , turn up the volume export current sample 🤯🤯🤯super high quality sound that makes me mad because I love my mpc up an iPad can almost stomp it

    At the end of the day it doesn't matter watch you create on when the end result is measured by someone else's ears. No one listen to music outside of from the production community and have matter to them what someone made it on. The listen could care less about everything other than how it sounds and make them feel. The whole argument is simply invalid for either. Cost wise it's a no brainer. Check out some of those Koala battle videos and you'd think half of it was made on your favorite gear when it was actually made with Koala...

    What makes koala so much more friendly to the beginner looking into MPC like production is that lots of people already have an iPhone or android phone, for 5 bucks you can start producing straight from your pocket. Having an iPad really just provides a more dedicated device for the software. I think koala as an app is enough in the pocket to make someone know if they really are interested in producing and not break the bank.

    Can’t really compare the 2, Koala is more like a SPXoX a Linear Phrase Sample Player not a Music Production Console, it’s a sketch pad not a studio Center piece.
    The inspiration behind Koala is Roland’s SP series not Aksi’s MPC range.
    It’s a great gate way into music production for people who don’t wish to fork out big bucks for a hardware unit. It’ll run a a $100 or less phone/tablet. This is an unfair competition in my opinion.

Given time, you'd be just as sick on Koala. For someone like myself who never made beats on an mpc, this simulates the experience well enough
