Today I learned that Symmetra is the only DPS with no access to quick, reactive mobility (tp is only reactive in very niche scenarios)

Edit: because some of the people can’t read, I said bastion referring to the fact he has no actually quick and reactive movement ability to get him out of the way when he gets hooked by hog, not that he doesn’t have any ability at all that can help him. Because the original comment is specifically talking about movement

Point is now its more a matter of paying attention to heals on your side and reacting to when you get hooked and the hog has to either hit a shot before hooking and hope the player doesn't get healed back to full hp, or look for someone who's already low to finish them off, it's no longer the bs any time, any place he can just hook and kill you, now they have to be smart about it from both sides

@@Ajgamesalot think about it for a second, a really good zarya, really good sigma, widow, sojourn, soldier, you name it, if the player is good with the hero there's bound to me someone out there bitching about how the hero is super unfair and it ruins the game, i for one hate hanzo for example, a really good hanzo can ruin games, someone who's just picked up hanzo will hardly ruin a game even if he hits a couple bs shots, same thing with hog now, if you got dominated by a hog because he actually played his cards right and had good aim and positioning tf are you complaining about?

I’ve been saying for months that any hog worth their salt won’t be affected by a damage reduction. I usually prefire anyway just to make sure they have less chance of surviving, it can also throw enemies off who thought you’d round the corner and immediately hook
I always prefire so this changes almost nothing for me. Just gotta deal with 1 extra meter

He's announcing to everyone "Hey I am going to try to one shot you now!" before they do it. It's so much easier to dodge because you expect it.

Yeah this is sorta me. He was my main and I'm kinda iffy about using him now. Haven't touched him since nerf but I would assume he can still be viable with my 'shoot first and kill them till they're dead' fighting style
I genuinely enjoy playing hog now that it's not ruining everyone else's fun
I'm mad because one of the only tanks with good range now is one of the worst because instead of nerfing his hook, they nerf his damage and his hook.

@@nicolaski5847 bruh i started playing overwatch in late 2022 picked hog and landed like 70% hook accuracy then the nerf came it took me only and hour to learn in and almost master it hog is sooooo easy

This is two fold, it's to show the nerf didn't do much to help and to show roadhog is still a good pick. Also to be fair this is only a stop gap until the rework in season 3

Yall need to calm down, hog is in a fair place right now, just because you got one shot cause you weren't paying attention, got flanked by a hog and your supports didn't save you and you couldn't save yourself don't blame your lack of skill in movement/positioning/healing on the hero, hog can't guarantee a one shot on a lot of heros now because of the nerf, a hog shooting you before hooking you and finishing you off with a combo is no different from a widow picking you off with a second body shot after leaving you on half hp, his weapon is a massive scrap SHOTGUN it doesn't do damage bursts or continuous damage, it's a slow fire rate blast weapon for close range, learn to play around it and counter it because the devs just made it 100 times easier to do so, just because you're in quickplay with randoms that can't help you in any way doesn't make the hero bs, even a Winston is bs against a squishy if he's alone in the back

Yeah tbh hog was fine before the nerf. Hes just op in low bot elos but balanced af in high elo. Hes got alot of counters and a good hog has no chance against a good orisa
@@tbmr11 Orisa was pretty much his only counter before the nerf, even in high elo. And even then when you pick orisa, your only job was to focus down the hog and no one else. You could say ana counters hog, but kiriko exists. And other then orisa, none of the other tanks were that great of a pick against hog, except another hog. He wasnt balanced whatsoever because he could one shot and he had the survivability to get hit by a semi-truck and still have like 75% hp

It's all about the Preshot, fun fact your secondary fire black ball thing moves exactly as fast as your hook, the shotgun pellets afterward are way faster though
Its like when mw2 came out and ppl immediately started trying to figure out slide cancelling again
As a sym player: spam orbs at the hogs face, it actually clutters the screen and gives you an opportunity to get out, also predicting a turret at the helps
HOWEVER there is a tech were if you want to cross a gap you can hook someone so they fall to their demise and as they are falling you can hop on there heads and then hop across

I'm surprised they didn't bring up hooked targets' interactions with walls, i.e., if you hook someone while hugging a wall and put them between you and the wall they don't get the extra meter.
im pretty sure the tech is hook, then jump after they land in front of you, shoot and melee

The pre fire shot is the way to go. Plus it feels satisfying to get that little hit confirmation before launching the hook.
Back in the day of OW1 when players thought he couldn't one shot anymore because they were balancing him, people talked about roadhog players would just need to call out hooks so the team or a teamate could focus fire the hooked enemy.
If anything this cements that thinking more than trying to go for solo skills. It's still a team game after all.

The point of jumping is that you shot them in the air so more of your shots are headshots, it's not so you can get close to them because the old one shot rarely works

Honestly most of the people that are out of position and getting hooked are either not full health or getting shot by someone else on your team at the same time as you so I haven’t even hardly noticed the nerf.

The method I use when using roadhog is basically shoot hook shoot it always works every time, even if he doesn't do that much damage with his hook anymore you can still one shot people you just either shoot first then Hook it's not easy but it's simple.
Hog will always be awesome no matter the buffs or nerfs he gets

Ive always played left side claw for hog to enable prefire constantly. So aside from the occasional miss this patch don’t change much

The true solution is to hook them next to a wall so that they are pushed closer towards you because of the terrain
Tve only time I play hog these days is when I'm on a map with ledges near the objective

symmetra could try spamming a turret or two to avoid some of the damage. Although I don't think she would have enough escape by herself to survive a second, follow-up shot.
Can also use a wall to force them to be near enough to be one-shoted after the hook.

This is a good nerf, it makes hog still fun to play and require more of a brain to play, i was honestly scared they would ruin him with this but no its still good it just needs a different playstyle, but people are out here still complaining because they get one shot when they were 160hp or something, even sigma can combo you to death on that amount of hp just pick a counter or get good at the game

have people NOT been prefiring the target before hooking them? That’s been the most secure way to get away with shit… like a well placed headshot with a L2 followed up by a hook turn into a shotgun melee has always been the best move

Crazy how hog just cant be properly balanced. He can either one shot most squishies and be a top tier tank pink, and when the nerf comes around where he cant one shot anymore hes a bottom tier.
any one shot character is inherently impossible to balance.. Blizzard just doesn't know this

I liked playing hog before this update... And I still like him now, his oneshot combo was a big problem since it was easy to pull off and get a quick kill on some poor squishy. I like how you actually have to shoot squishies now then hook and shoot them for the kill. Gives me a sense of accomplishment
so now you have to actually be aware of enemy cooldowns on hog to have a little value now

we just got rid of the insta kill can we not do it again
they nerf hog into the ground cause boohoo one shot but they decrease orisa 50 hp and call it good. also every game in low diamond gets absolutely spawn camped by a good widow maker that’s 1 shotting people across the map but no one seems to want her to be nerfed
The idea was to make others follow up their utility, like blitzcrank in LoL
