I had a VHS tape with a compilation of bands who played at Dynamo that year, and it had this version of Spirit Crusher. That was the part I've watched thousands of times. This sound was so fresh, so innovative to me, never heard something so progressive but so raw and aggressive at the same time. Even today I feel that most bands I listen have this sound somewhere in their DNA. And this snare sound is absolutely incredible for 1998.

lol first time hearing this guy, thought they said he died early 90s, I'm about 25 years too late to appreciate those Kreator vocals, I didnt know he sang also. I might have the same Valvestate he's using, 8200. Some of the guitar work remind of Testament.

Nor can the crowd except first rows. I find that in such bands with so technical playing, one can only just stand still and admire/enjoy.
He may be the most talented man in metal history. This guy could play crushing rhythm while doing vocals like a Mustaine and Hetfield but with the additional ability to play blistering solos equal to or better than his hired lead guitarist. His playing is instantly recognizable.

I mean i love Chuck but in what concerns playing rhythm + singing and playing leads Alexi Laiho was equally if not more insane than Chuck, both monsters though!!

I legitimately believe that death never made an album under a 9/10, absolute favourite of mine. Chuck is such an inspiration when it comes to guitar and approaching life in a positive way.

Chuck is without a doubt the GOAT! Every song is a metal mastery of composition! Not one note is pretentious! Not one song was designed to a fit a metal mainstream standard. Chuck simply had a story to tell and had the rare gift of matching his thoughts through his chosen instrument to near perfection! I imagine he would be doing stuff closer to power metal or something like Muse, if you know about Chuck he was sick of the whole Death Metal thing by the end.
I think his music now would be closer to what Cynic are doing as opposed to Death.

My uncle introduced me to Chuck Schuldiner's Death when I was in high school. I instantly fell in love with The philosopher. Chuck is the GOAT in the death metal genre. Love from Bangladesh.

When this young man was alive in the 90's the legendary status of Death was already assured. In a time where we had no internet, the lack of footage and recordings of quality from Chuck and company gave an obscurity to the band, and with those records in hand everybody wanted to see the and listen how this music was performed. After his tragic passing, this gig and tour were the only chances to have a visual and good audio quality performance of his mastery. Sadly we have way less from previous incanations.

I love how he would use his current voice on every song no matter what year he was performing, he was the realest and best Musician in my opinion. Chucks sheer development of Death Metal through the years with his Guitarwork, Vocal styles, and lyricism, is just so Alien like to me. Shredding up in the great gig, we forever Miss Chuck Schuldiner
