Great ideas all around, though i think just giving ho-oh revival blessing itself would be the route gamefreak goes instead of trying to implement a passive revive ability. Thats why I would really like to see ho-oh with an ability that summons a rainbow effect onto your side of the field, which can only be summoned with water+fire pledge in doubles. Making sacred fire guaranteed to burn and letting ho-oh play with other fun moves like air slash and ancient power and enabling better rng fishing for other partners.

I think giving Lugia a reskin of something like Delta Stream would be great. In lore it creates hurricane just by flapping it's wings and since Mega Rayquaza isn't currently available anymore it's be a neat and fitting way to bring back it's ability.
It could get Drizzle to fit its dex entries, give it Water-type pseudo STAB, and contest with Koraidon as a weather setter. Kyogre would still hit for leagues more, but Lugia has more overall bulk and supporting moves so it isn't completely outclassed in the role.
For Lugia i thought of something quite fun, and ended up seeing the exact idea on reddit: Stormbringer: Summons rains for 5 turns upon using a wind based move (Hurricane, Aeroblast, Gust, Tailwind, etc.)

I think mewtwo having psychic surge or tinted lens could give it a niche as a strong psyspammer, although it still probably wouldn't be as good as calyrex. Also while it maybe wouldn't be good, giving palkia super luck, having a guaranteed crit on spacial rend if it has scope lens equipped just sending stuff to the shadow realm is really funny.
Tinted Lens Mewtwo actually could be cool asw ngl it's been terrifying for Hisui Braviary rn, it'd at least get niche use ngl. Super Luck Palkia could be funny at least but as you said definitely less good, but the bit would be way too silly to pass up trying!
For the Legendary beasts, the best ability has to be FlashFire VoltAbsorb and WaterAbsorb like they were supposed to have. Zapdos had VoltAbsorb at one point so it makes sense. as WeedleTwineedle said, Hooh should just get revival blessing. it should also get maybe serene grace. could be good but regenerator is amazing. 9:49 smth like Genetic Boost could be cool 11:20 rock type Earth Power?
Largely useless suggestions for the legendary beasts, would be virtually zero help. Raikou should get drizzle for carrying rainclouds on its back. Turns it into great team support that can hit super hard thunders. Suicune should get filter, as a play off its entry stating it purifies water, and it is hugely beneficial to its primary role as being a bulky stat booster. Entei should get sheer force. Becomes a massive wallbreaker. Derived from its dex entry, stating it can't contain its "sheer power."
i love timestamps.🙏 I love Serene Grace Articuno, Neuroforce Mewtwo, and Wind Power Zapdos. 5:58 Max Bulk Stamina Suicune would be really defensively OP and annoying with Calm Mind, Scald, Snarl because most physical grass and electric phys attackers suck. 7:05 I say lean into Raikou's offensive potential and give it the power boosting ability Download like Genesect so that it can make use of a lucky phys-attack boost for extreme speed, wild-charge or a special-attack boost for thunderclap/bolt. I wish Mespirit learned Tail Glow and Genesect learned Quiver Dance. 9:28 Download or Neuroforce Deoxys Normal (Sort of gives Deoxys Normal form the better ability for versatility by boosting the opponent's more vulnerable Attack/SpAttack stat?) 9:31 Rusted Sword/Intrepid Sword Deoxys Attack (Sort of gives Deoxys Attack form the more limited but more consistent ability to always boost physical Attack stat. Favors Extreme Speed) 9:29 Rusted Shield/Dauntless Shield or Regenerator Deoxys Defense (Body Press Deoxys-D says thank you because now it can finally stand out with a cool niche to challenge other bulky psychics like Cressilia, Uxie, Mew, Latias, and Necrozma Dusk Mane) 9:50 Psychic Surge or Sheer Force Deoxys Speed would love to do some nasty work with Life Orb. 9:49 now if we use your DNA Manipulation idea, that sounds like Protosynthesis/Quark Drive but even better because you don't need a booster energy nor harsh-sun/electic-terrain, therefore kinda broken/op but i love it anyway, and honestly Deoxys deserves to have an OP ability. i hate how brokenly defensive filter dialgia and shadow tag giratina are but am genuinely impressed because with a good defensive tera set these abilities you came up with can put in some nasty work even against the best restricteds like primals/megaray/calyrexs/xerneas. Giratina Origin with Levitates going Tera Steel was already annoying, now Filter Dialga's Tera Flying can flip its only two weaknesses (Fighting and Ground) to a resistance and an immunity. 11:14 i like how giving Palkia Sheer Force encourages you to give it a Life Orb which coincidentally just looks like Palkia's pink shoulder orbs.
Even though you chose to not include it on the list, I would personally give eternatus a new ability. I would give it either corrosion or merciless. Corrosion would be good for it because it would prevent eternatus from getting walled by opposing steel types, and merciless would turn it into a fast special attacking critical hit machine.
Very huge on both abilities honestly both would be HUGE, I mostly chose to ignore it because A) Pressure is a cool ability; and B) after generations of signature ability after signature ability this felt like a very intentional choice so I avoided the change for Eternatus as it also just fits well anyway, but like definitely both would be very cool!!
For Mewtwo and Mew, I always liked the idea of giving them contrasting abilities in Sheer Force and Serene Grace (even tho the latter is already used by Jirachi). Their movepools are vast enough to get full use out of their abilities while benefitting them in their respective roles as sweeper and utility offense.
Or we could just buff Pressure. I would go with any combination of the following: 1) PP cost is now 3-6 (more PP means more PP lost. To really hurt stall. 2 is just not enough) 2) Take Reduced Damage (25-50%) from any generation gimmick (this will future proof the ability so it will always be usable) 3) Immune to/Reflect Intimidate (Lore reasons. Pokemon with this ability are supposed to be scary and intimidating it makes using moves against them difficult. Initimidate shouldn't work on them.)
I something thrown around that really like for Giratina. I don’t remember the name but it worked like shadow tag but only for Pokemon that Giratina had supereffective coverage against. Just think that’s pretty cool. Gives a lot of agency on what you want to tailor your Giratina to win against
Seeing this pop up in my recommended really shows how much traction this video's getting right out of the gates. I'm happy you picked from existing abilities for the most part and didn't brainstorm some ungodly broken abilities just for the sake of making them invincible. The logic here is very sound. It's cool to witness your growth over the years. Hopefully things continue to take off once the eventual new generation rolls around and lifts up a new wave of TH-camrs as always. I've got a feeling you'll surpass your main channel with this one at some point!
Mespirit: Unaware. I feel like its control over emotions suppressing the stat raises of opponents makes sense. Azelf: Give it a better version of cursed body with a 100% proc rate. It fits its lore perfectly where if you harm it you lose your will. It's not very defensive so it shouldn't be too broken but it will be useful to send your next pokemon in knowing the opponents lacking an option. Uxie: Maybe a better version of forewarn that you can just learn the opponents entire moveset? Or since that wouldnnt be useful with open team sheets maybe give it a special intimidate as its dampening the knowledge to use those effectively. Regigigas: Fashionably late. It's just slow start again, no changes.
Mewtation should be essentially adaptability + expert belt in one. Then he always hits like a truck regardless of type matchup and truly feels like the destructive force he was designed to be
I know we chose not to do standard Kyurem and Eternatus but I feel like Snow Warning Kyurem would actually be a huge buff for it after the recent snow buff and Eternatus I could not decide on one but either give it Regenerator, Toxic Debris or maybe even Power Spot as reference to the Darkest Day
For Ho-oh I would make an ability that lets it revive itself once per battle one full turn after it faints. References how phoenixes are supposed to rise from the ashes.
Bruh I’m mind blown at 4:15 how have I been playing and watching pokemon for over 20 years and I’ve never realized Mew probably comes from the word mutation
Black and White Kyurem really need their own version of As One. Ho-oh could just get an auto-revive like the Reviver Seed in PokeRogue. Dialga should auto-set Trick Room like the time warper that it is. That would be an amazing niche that might actually see some use.
While most of the pressure legendaries are either carried by their stats or competitive niches, I feel like the legendary birds are in desperate need of new abilities considering their Galarian counterparts have their own abilities. Either giving them weather/terrain setting like Articuno - snow warning, Zapdos - Electric surge, Moltres - Drought. Or giving them the type changing abilities like Articuno - Refrigerate, Zapdos - Galvanize, Moltres - Aerialate. Either one would make the legendary birds an actual threat while sticking to their elemental theme.
If Mewtwo was given a new ability, Mewtation then I think it should work like Download but it sharply raises it's Attack or Special Attack instead of just by one stage.
For Zapdos I think it should be given one of the three electric immunity abilities because of how it was depicted in the second Pokemon movie (appears in a ball of lighting, lands, makes the surrounding area electromagnetic, and used electricity to talk to Pikachu) A fun ability for Lugia would be “Sea Guardian” where the weather changes depending on the ally Pokemon (Snow for Articuno, Rain for Zapdos, Sun for Moltres), the preventing priority can also be added to have a use in singles. And as a joke let’s say that “Sea Guardian” causes the opponent to forfeit the match if Lugia and all three individual kanto birds are on the field at the same time (referencing how Lugia quelled the birds at the end of the second movie)
Which is kinda funny. Because Zapdos was actually planned to have Lightning rod as it's ability in Gen 5. But it was never officially released with its hidden ability until Gen 6. When it was changed to Static
Hey! This is a new ability I came up with for Dialga I’m calling it Temporal Loop. Here’s how it works: When Dialga’s HP drops below 50% from an opponent’s attack, Temporal Loop activates, and it resets Dialga back to the state it was in at the start of the battle. This means: • Full HP recovery • All status conditions like burn, paralysis, or confusion are removed • Stat changes (positive or negative) are reset to neutral It’s like Dialga rewinds time to when the fight began! However, any boosts Dialga gained from moves like Agility or Bulk Up will also be erased, so players need to plan carefully when relying on setup strategies. Once Temporal Loop activates, Dialga’s Dragon- and Steel-type moves get a 20% power boost for the rest of the battle. But there’s a catch-the HP drop must come from an opponent’s attack. If Dialga’s HP drops below 50% from moves like Substitute or Belly Drum, the ability won’t trigger. Also, it only activates once per battle-so use it wisely! Finally, Temporal Loop is exclusive to Dialga. It can’t be copied by abilities like Doodle, Entrainment, Role Play, or Skill Swap. The only way for another Pokémon to gain this ability is by transforming into Dialga with Mew or Ditto.
I can see it now choice specs zapdos getting hit with a wind move every turn for 160 base power stab discharges, and 220 base power thunders in the rain. With water type support it’ll be great.
if articuno ever got serene grace i think that would cause the entire world to hate facing a defensive articuno, neat idea in thought but would be TERRIBLE in practice
Articuno would really still need Tera to get that kind of defensive play, and even then it's freeze chance just matches like Galarian Articuno's signature move, which despite NOT being an Ice Type, has a higher freeze chance than any move Articuno, the ice type built around a snow theme, has (Freezing Glare is 1/2 moves with 20% freeze); so Serene Grace making that a closer gap is at least thematically cool and still not too damning. Its best use would be Blizzard spam on Snow but you're giving up Snow Cloak so give and take for sure!
Can bem Just me but i think Deoxys should have different abilities depending of its form. Attack could be Sturdy, Defense could be Regenerator and Speed could be Natural Cure. Algo would be cool if they madeira an item that leais Deoxys change forms like in the anime.
Love the video, great ideas, but here's what I would've opted for for some: Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres- overgrow/blaze/etc. Copies Mew- Protean Entei- Hustle and HA Sheer Force Suicune- Serene Grace Raikou- Lightning Rod Ho-Oh- As another commenter mentioned, I think an ability that summons in the rainbow effect would be awesome Lugia- Neuroforce (I think it's a better fit for Lugia since it's its psychic power that causes it to create tidal waves and storms) or Drizzle/an ability that summons in tailwind on entry Palkia- No Guard (you're telling me the pokemon that created space and dimensions can miss its attacks? Heresy) Giratina- Another TH-camr i watch made a video giving a few pokemon signature abilities and introduced the idea of Giratina causing Inverse type format on switch in, which is such a cool idea. I think it would be cool for it's origin form to ignore the inverse and also function more similar to primal reversions when it comes to changing between forms. Arceus- I can't be the only person who dislikes its ability. I think it should at least get a 1.25× boost to moves of its correspondi an itemng type. Also the plates should change its type outside of battle, so it can hold a different item. Darkrai- make bad dreams cause pokemon to sleep longer Cressalia- do the reverse of bad dreams and cause sleep to be shorter Regigigas- Truant and HA Defeatist
it would be but there's still so much counterplay among top tiers like Incineroar that it would never be a meta thing, but we'd see it get used finally!!
For Deoxys, DNA Manipulation could give Attack form +1 in both offensive stats, Defense form +1 in both defensive stats, Speed form +1 in Speed, and Normal form +1 in its offensive _and_ defensive stats. That way, Normal form won't continue to be completely outclassed by Attack form, and the other Deoxys forms would get a boost that they need in today's metas (Deoxys is pretty much never allowed in VGC, and in Singles its Defense form is dropping like a rock through tiers and only its Attack form is viable in Ubers). The only form I'm kind of iffy about for balance is Attack form, but with powerhouse mutants like Zacian and Miraidon being present in the tiers with actual defensive capabilities, it might actually be more manageable than it seems. Remember that Deoxys Attack has around the same bulk as Carvanha, so an Aqua Jet from my cousin's goldfish puts it away.
Protean is a great idea for Mewtwo, but I think Mold Breaker fits even better. As a lab-created Pokemon from Gen 1, it would be awesome to see Mewtwo smash through abilities and power creep with that ability.
I think a really cool ability for Mewtwo, but still offer some counter play is a homage to the berserk gene item, where if Mewtwo is confused, it's sp atk and atk gets boosted to max (6+ stages). Some cool prankster self target confusion could be a new strategy
Let’s just give Lugia Huge Power but for special attack, or at least some way to substantially boost its special attack. Base 90 is absolutely abhorrent, it’s a box legendary for crying out loud. I know it’s supposed to be a defensive wall but as it currently stands, something like Calyrex-Ice matches its bulk yet it way stronger. Lugia is much faster, but base 110 isn’t as fast as it once was. Lugia has almost never been relevant in VGC, and is currently also pretty much unviable in singles. Let’s make it actually good for once
I agree with all these choices, the only Pokémon i disagree with is Entei. I think Entei would be better off with tough claws than scrappy, I like Lugias armor tail but I think swift swim or water bubble would also be kinda interesting
Tough Claws would be cool for Entei ngl I contemplated a lot on it just liked the unimpeded Extreme Speeds is all. for Lugia I think Swift Swim would fit best thematically but it'd still suck really badly, but Water Bubble could be interesting to make it less passive and it'd help pair well synergy wise for Rock types!
looking at power creep, I would like to see the creation trio to go WILD with their abilities, so i will give them terrain, but one that fits their thematic, dialga the pokemon of time will enter the field and set the trick room, palkia the pokemon of space enters and set wonder room, and giratina the "anti mater", but in reality is the pokemon of gravity, will enter and set gravity field
So here are my ideas: Articuno: arti suffers from the fact that it is a defensive ice type game freak seems to love making these things inspite if the fact that ice has a bad defensive typing. Now if we are not going to make some powerful custom broken ability for it and we are going to stick with abilities that already exist, i would probably go with fur coat, it probably needs a new name but halfing physical damage on it would definately improve its ability as a wall. Zapdos: zapdos sees play in the singles metagame largely as a defensive pivot, flying/electric is a solid defensive combo, i think splashing transistor onto zappy gives it the extra punch it needs to see play on more offensive structures Moltres: this is one that i really want to invent a new ability for, radiant splendor, which is intimidate but for special attacks. Intimidate is a huge ability in vgc ans i think special intimidate would give moltres something special while patching is lower special defence (it has will o.wisp to deal with physical.threats) Mewtwo: mewtwo has 110 of its 680 bst in attack a stat that it generally doesnt use, and i think it would be cool if we could make it an adaptive mixed attacker somehow. To that end i am suggesting giving it tough claws (110*1.3=143 which is pretty close to the 154 it has in spkatk) add adding some cool options to its learn set, sucker punch and pursuit both being potential options i think worth considering for the ultimate lifeform
@@umwha the things that arti are weak to are mostly physical, rock and steel being the big ones, ice scales would help it be a special wall but I actually think it already has the spdef for that (again I am thinking of vgc because with sneaky pebbles arti will never make it in Smogon except maybe with boots but if it loses boots it's done for)
@@joshuaturner4602 yes ice scales boosts the sp def which it’s already good on. But preserving physical frailty gives the opponent some recourse . Alternately you could give it prism armour
@@umwha I dont think prism armor is a good fit, (or at the very least I think it should remain the signature ability of Necrozma) but The reason why I think Frosty Plumage (Fur Coat) is better than ice scales is actually to give an opponent a chance, Snow is +50% defence, which would stack with Furcoat making it very indestructible on that side, but Ice Sacles is 2x Spdef If you put 0 investment into spdef and add Ice Scales you get 234 spdef, and then also 250 defence (because of snow and maxium investment into defence) With Fur Coat you would have 235 defence with an uninvested defence in the snow and 194 spedef now the likely hood would be that the lower stats would be higher because Bulbapedia says that the minimum numbers I used here include 0 IV, 0EV and a hindering nature. Rather than being very bulky on both sides its now at least touchable on the special side Of course the Furcoat version might run like Icy wind, Blizzard, Freeze dry, Hurricane + Assault vest which wouldn't make it do much damage but would allow it to stick around being annoying for a long time (especially if it receives the occasional heal pulse or whatever. ) but with maximum investment into bulk the frosty bird would be very annoying but not particularly damaging. ice is a solid defenceive type and 125 spatk is nothing to snease at but its not enough I think to push arti over the line.
@@joshuaturner4602 I think making articuno so high in both defenses doesn't make sense with its visual design. It is too much to make it have 253 def in the snow (thanks for doing the math) because it looks like a frail bird. It shouldn't tank esp not a physical one. But I've had the most obvious idea. Just give it snow warning. That fits its concept as a flying ice-bird, brining a snow storm, and that gives it +1 Def. Weather abilities generally feel very legendary coded to me.
Mewtwo should have an ability called Berserker Gene and it should be a Blaze clone for Psychic type moves. It wouldnt be amazing but thematically it works and its a nice reference to the movie
Magic Guard Dialga? (For unga bunga Steel Beams) Magic Bounce Palkia? (Makes too much sense for the spatial pokemon) Psychic Surge Mewtwo? (Calyrex needs nerfing straight up) I still think you should've include the unova legendaries since the tao abilities are literally just mold breaker again.
The Tao abilities are the only Mold Breaker to get through abilities like Shadow Shield and Full Metal Body actually so it technically is a good niche to have just they're bad pokemon otherwise. I love the suggestions on Dialga/Palkia though, Mewtwo honestly no matter what ability you gave it unless it's some As One duo with two dumber abilities than Unnerve and Grim Neigh (unironically my thought went to a Wonder Guard combination but if we aren't going too absurd Psychic Surge and Intimidate could be a good route to go, or like some omni boost ability) its the Calyrex competition it has to deal with, since even with a stat nerf to match Mewtwo, Calyrex's signature move even if it got nerfed to like 80% accuracy would be the big thing giving it dominance tbh.
raikou speed boost , giratina cursed body, mewtwo berserk/ neuroforce, lugia anger point (in the anime it is stated lugia gets stronger the angrier it gets ) dialga stamina (because stamina is time related I guess)
tried to limit the new abilities as much as possible, obv not a requirement but where I saw fit without getting repetitive if I found an ability that could have worked I went with that. Ho-Oh's next best replacement was either Drought (it would still be the worst Drought user in the restricted pool) or like Gale Wings (that would probably be very very dumb and the revival blessing ability is arguably less, also it doesn't fix Ho-Oh's issue of just being at best a trade mon); but in Dialga's case we had a lot of options that would translate to very good success for it!
@@oLivSama that’s fair, but I think with a lot of the new legendaries they come with their own unique abilities or at least a new name for an older ability.
tried not outright outclassing it, at least with the Zapdos one Kilowattrel still has like a much faster speed stat and Electroweb over Zapdos, and Zapdos would still run Static in a lot of games over Wind Power anyway as cool as it'd be on some sets
I feel like Legendary Pokémon deserve unique abilities tied to their indivdual nature. Perhaps the Bird Trio should get an Aura that amps their types. Call them Cold Air, Storm Cloud and Heat Haze. For the Beasts (Dogs were never their name), perhaps a 20% chance of phasing out opposing Pokémon when using their STAB moves. For the Giants, why not replace Clear Body with Steel, Rock, and Ice versions of Regielki and Ragidrago's abilities?
I was thinking, and seeing as Dialga and Palkia's niche is Trick Room, maybe an ability for them that triggers Trick Room when they enter the field could be interesting. And thematically it would make sense, especially with Palkia being the god of space and with Trick Room "The dimensions are twisted" And I don't feel like it would be super broken, because you could also accidentally remove your own Trick Room if you bring it out onto the field while it's active. But it would be pretty powerfull and it would make them feel more in pair with other restricted I mean, Urshifu isn't restricted and this mf ls just ignoring protect
Trios not having some relation with their abilities seem kind of sad. The birds could simply get the corresponding weather generating abilities, that's rather easy. The dogs I feel Guard Dog could work, as Suicune and Raikou would appreciate not being subject to whirlwind, whine Entei would simply love getting the attack boost vs intimidate. But then again, they're not really completely dog inspired, so you could go a different route. Ho-oh, I really don't think anything other than Magic Guard would be any fitting, unless we build some new ability from scratch. Lugia is kind of hard. Swift swim does work, but is kinda apart from Ho-oh's Magic Guard, so it could simply get Magic Guard too. It would appreciate being able to hold a flame orb or toxic orb to ignore status conditions, I guess. Mewtwo os a perfect candidate for Mold Breaker. If fits thematically, even! Plus I've always wanted a nice special Mold Breaker user. Dialga, Palkia and Giratina I believe should actually keep Pressure, but Dialga and Palkia Origin should get Giratina's Levitate. Kyuurem, on the other hand really should get something different. Maybe Ice Body or Refrigerate. Deoxys could simply get Beast Boost.
Give Articuno Competitive. Give Zapdos Lightning Rod. Give Moltres Berserk. Give Mewtwo an ability that prevents status conditions and boosts its speed whenever it is hit with a status move. Give Raikou Volt Absorb. Give Entei Flash Fire. Give Suicune Water Absorb. Give Ho-oh an ability that gives it Psychic stab. Give Lugia an ability that gives it Water stab. Give Dialga an ability that sets up Trick Room upon entry. Give Palkia an ability that sets up Gravity upon entry. Give Giratina an ability that boosts the power of Ghost type attacks for itself and its partner Pokemon.
Not thinking of giving Raikou drizzle is embarrassing. It's literally carrying a raincloud on its back, noted by Pokedex. I think for that reason, it should also get hurricane and weatherball. They're thematically logical moves for it to have. Now, Raikou has amazing coverage and high damage in 100% accurate thunder and hurricane and boosted water type weatherball, while being one of the best weather support pokemon ever. It's also pronounced Rye-koo not rye-koh. Its name translates to thunder lord. Kou is pronounced koo, whereas you pronounce it as ko(which translates to child).
you are 100% wrong about raikou's pronunciation it has the same name in japanese and it is pronounced ra-i-kō furthermore, 子 would be pronounced with a short o, unlike the "-kou", which has a long o

...rainbow surge?
@theimprovedbore550 that's definitely happening right now and I'm all for it hahaha
I think giving Lugia a reskin of something like Delta Stream would be great. In lore it creates hurricane just by flapping it's wings and since Mega Rayquaza isn't currently available anymore it's be a neat and fitting way to bring back it's ability.
Delta stream could honestly be given itself.
Yeah, Delta Stream would be cool, but it could also get Primordial Sea because of its role in its movie. Unleash the "Beast of the Sea"!
I feel like swift swim for Lugia actually brings it into its sea friend lore concept and maybe makes it a bit more of a threat?
It could get Drizzle to fit its dex entries, give it Water-type pseudo STAB, and contest with Koraidon as a weather setter.
Kyogre would still hit for leagues more, but Lugia has more overall bulk and supporting moves so it isn't completely outclassed in the role.
For Lugia i thought of something quite fun, and ended up seeing the exact idea on reddit:

I could see Mewtwo being viable in vgc if it got psychic surge
Here’s some ideas I had for Deoxys hehehehe 😈
Normal Form: Mold Breaker
Attack Form: Contrary
Defence Form: Regenerator
Speed Form: Speed Boost
Why you need even more speed for speed form?
Gotta go fast
Contrary pscho boost contrary psycho boost (give deo def filter)
@@st1v_funnie (it’s not fully useless)
contrary on deoxys-attack would be really toxic in ubers (focus sash). the positioning mindgame is far too toxic (as well as the speed benchmark)

Corrosion would be good for it because it would prevent eternatus from getting walled by opposing steel types, and merciless would turn it into a fast special attacking critical hit machine.
corrosion only lets you poison steel/poison types, steels are still immune to poison regardless
Eternatus is kinda overtuned stat wise so him having a lame ability is justified.
I would go with any combination of the following:
1) PP cost is now 3-6 (more PP means more PP lost. To really hurt stall. 2 is just not enough)
2) Take Reduced Damage (25-50%) from any generation gimmick (this will future proof the ability so it will always be usable)
3) Immune to/Reflect Intimidate (Lore reasons. Pokemon with this ability are supposed to be scary and intimidating it makes using moves against them difficult. Initimidate shouldn't work on them.)
you say more PP to hurt stall like pressure-stalling wasnt vincune/crocunes entire thing lol
I something thrown around that really like for Giratina. I don’t remember the name but it worked like shadow tag but only for Pokemon that Giratina had supereffective coverage against. Just think that’s pretty cool. Gives a lot of agency on what you want to tailor your Giratina to win against
I’d give it the ghost equivalent of minds eye
Shadow Tag Giratina is so cool dude I wish it were real
would be so terrifying tbh!
I feel like Download would be really strong and thematically fitting on Mewtwo, given that the ability is given to manmade Pokemon and whatnot.
Bro made kilowattrel a worse zapdos in every way now
It still has base 125 Speed, so its 0.03% usage is safe and sound.
@@christiancinnabars1402lmao
Kilo is not getting used any time soon its speed + Electroweb will always still hold niche tho over Zapdos!
@@oLivSama ngl just give the thing no guard for some stab
Then he always hits like a truck regardless of type matchup and truly feels like the destructive force he was designed to be
I think Dialga would be cool to create gravity for 5 turns on switch-in, and Palkia could get an armor tail like ability that blocks priority moves
I've always thought Palkia should have Shadow Tag or smt cause it's all about controlling space
that could also be totally cool ngl just figured it fits better on Giratina
While most of the pressure legendaries are either carried by their stats or competitive niches, I feel like the legendary birds are in desperate need of new abilities considering their Galarian counterparts have their own abilities.
Either giving them weather/terrain setting like Articuno - snow warning, Zapdos - Electric surge, Moltres - Drought.
Or giving them the type changing abilities like Articuno - Refrigerate, Zapdos - Galvanize, Moltres - Aerialate.
Either one would make the legendary birds an actual threat while sticking to their elemental theme.
Giratina using the move court change on switch in, but called something like distortion, could be cool too
I would give eternatus a new ability called Dynamax Armor that gives it a one Hit shield that reduce damage by 50% every time it switches in
lugia would be really fun if it had an ability that redirected wind attacks, sorta like shiftry, to punish any tailwind users
If Mewtwo was given a new ability, Mewtation then I think it should work like Download but it sharply raises it's Attack or Special Attack instead of just by one stage.
For Zapdos I think it should be given one of the three electric immunity abilities because of how it was depicted in the second Pokemon movie (appears in a ball of lighting, lands, makes the surrounding area electromagnetic, and used electricity to talk to Pikachu)
A fun ability for Lugia would be “Sea Guardian” where the weather changes depending on the ally Pokemon (Snow for Articuno, Rain for Zapdos, Sun for Moltres), the preventing priority can also be added to have a use in singles.
Just got home from work with some food, sat down and saw a new LivSama video got posted, Perfect :)
Great content as always!
Aye thanks a ton I'm glad you enjoyed the video and glad to see you looking forward to the new content!!
Hey! This is a new ability I came up with for Dialga I’m calling it Temporal Loop.
Here’s how it works:
When Dialga’s HP drops below 50% from an opponent’s attack, Temporal Loop activates, and it resets Dialga back to the state it was in at the start of the battle. This means:
• Full HP recovery
• All status conditions like burn, paralysis, or confusion are removed
• Stat changes (positive or negative) are reset to neutral
It’s like Dialga rewinds time to when the fight began!
I think some of the older legendaries should have exclusive abilities that don't currently exist even in Gen 9
If you gave Moltres No-Guard I would hope it also gets Inferno, as a better (but not often seen) offensive fire-type pick.
Maybe Mewtwo needs a support abillity like prankster or psychic surge
Mewtwo doesn’t seem like the type to pull pranks
@@ksoundkaiju9256 yes, but he's a good supporting move pool
if articuno ever got serene grace i think that would cause the entire world to hate facing a defensive articuno, neat idea in thought but would be TERRIBLE in practice
Pressure should reduce the PP of every move by 1 each turn.
Fighting a pressure mon should be exhausting.
that actually would be a cool alternative to an ability replacement
I feel like both Stamina or Ice Scales would work well for suicune ngl
Ice Scales could be cool too actually just thought with CM sets the angle should be Stamina is all
@@oLivSama i was gonna say it fits with Suicunes theme but then i realise its a water type 😭
Dialga should have an ability that makes 2-turn moves only take one turn, because it's supposed to be THE GOD OF TIME
I think it would be cool to give them all signature abilities.
This is a great video and might even give Mewtwo some competitive viability! Keep doing these videos!
Thanks a ton, more to come soon!!!
Can bem Just me but i think Deoxys should have different abilities depending of its form. Attack could be Sturdy, Defense could be Regenerator and Speed could be Natural Cure. Algo would be cool if they madeira an item that leais Deoxys change forms like in the anime.
No guard on moltres is way worse than pressure.
Having accurate Fire Blasts and Hurricanes is pretty sick.
Deoxys should have different abilities based on its forms like Ogerpon does.
Pressure would go best on a tanky Pokémon with sustain
It wouldn't help Suicune competitively but its lore and design just scream Clear Body.
Why not give the ability that turn normal moved inyo they're respective elements like galvanize
Love the video, great ideas, but here's what I would've opted for for some:
Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres- overgrow/blaze/etc. Copies
Mew- Protean
Entei- Hustle and HA Sheer Force
Suicune- Serene Grace
Raikou- Lightning Rod
Ho-Oh- As another commenter mentioned, I think an ability that summons in the rainbow effect would be awesome
Lugia- Neuroforce (I think it's a better fit for Lugia since it's its psychic power that causes it to create tidal waves and storms) or Drizzle/an ability that summons in tailwind on entry
Palkia- No Guard (you're telling me the pokemon that created space and dimensions can miss its attacks? Heresy)
Giratina- Another TH-camr i watch made a video giving a few pokemon signature abilities and introduced the idea of Giratina causing Inverse type format on switch in, which is such a cool idea.
Darkrai- make bad dreams cause pokemon to sleep longer
Cressalia- do the reverse of bad dreams and cause sleep to be shorter
Regigigas- Truant and HA Defeatist
Shadow Tag GIratina sounds absolutely disgusting to play against
it would be but there's still so much counterplay among top tiers like Incineroar that it would never be a meta thing, but we'd see it get used finally!!
I can't believe she would mistype Earth Power like that, Liv Sama truly fell off 😔
truly fallen from grace :(
Articuno 60% sheercold go brrrr.
Moltre: flame body
Protean is a great idea for Mewtwo, but I think Mold Breaker fits even better. As a lab-created Pokemon from Gen 1, it would be awesome to see Mewtwo smash through abilities and power creep with that ability.
I’d give mewtwo magic guard
I think a really cool ability for Mewtwo, but still offer some counter play is a homage to the berserk gene item, where if Mewtwo is confused, it's sp atk and atk gets boosted to max (6+ stages). Some cool prankster self target confusion could be a new strategy
One Lum Berry and the game explodes
Let’s just give Lugia Huge Power but for special attack, or at least some way to substantially boost its special attack. Base 90 is absolutely abhorrent, it’s a box legendary for crying out loud. I know it’s supposed to be a defensive wall but as it currently stands, something like Calyrex-Ice matches its bulk yet it way stronger. Lugia is much faster, but base 110 isn’t as fast as it once was. Lugia has almost never been relevant in VGC, and is currently also pretty much unviable in singles. Let’s make it actually good for once
It just needs a base stat redistribution.
HP 154 Atk 90 Def 90 SAtk 130 Sdef 106 Spd 110.
What abilities would you give to mega Mewtwo Y and mega Mewtwo X, both of these megas were sadly outclassed by mega Rayquaza in restricted formats
Everything was outclassed by Mega Rayquaza in every formats 💀💀💀
In the fan game I'm working on, Deoxys is getting Adaptive Lifeform which is sort of like moody. It raises 1 random stat by 1 at the end of each turn.
I agree with all these choices, the only Pokémon i disagree with is Entei. I think Entei would be better off with tough claws than scrappy, I like Lugias armor tail but I think swift swim or water bubble would also be kinda interesting
Tough Claws would be cool for Entei ngl I contemplated a lot on it just liked the unimpeded Extreme Speeds is all. for Lugia I think Swift Swim would fit best thematically but it'd still suck really badly, but Water Bubble could be interesting to make it less passive and it'd help pair well synergy wise for Rock types!
looking at power creep, I would like to see the creation trio to go WILD with their abilities, so i will give them terrain, but one that fits their thematic, dialga the pokemon of time will enter the field and set the trick room, palkia the pokemon of space enters and set wonder room, and giratina the "anti mater", but in reality is the pokemon of gravity, will enter and set gravity field
that could be a cool concept as well, but Dialga's would be by far greater than the rest tbh
What about neutralizing gas (call it neutralizing pressure) on mewtwo?
this could be a really cool one asw yea
Drizzle sunnyday snowwarning birds
So here are my ideas:
Articuno: arti suffers from the fact that it is a defensive ice type game freak seems to love making these things inspite if the fact that ice has a bad defensive typing. Now if we are not going to make some powerful custom broken ability for it and we are going to stick with abilities that already exist, i would probably go with fur coat, it probably needs a new name but halfing physical damage on it would definately improve its ability as a wall.
Zapdos: zapdos sees play in the singles metagame largely as a defensive pivot, flying/electric is a solid defensive combo, i think splashing transistor onto zappy gives it the extra punch it needs to see play on more offensive structures
Moltres: this is one that i really want to invent a new ability for, radiant splendor, which is intimidate but for special attacks. Intimidate is a huge ability in vgc ans i think special intimidate would give moltres something special while patching is lower special defence (it has will o.wisp to deal with physical.threats)
Mewtwo: mewtwo has 110 of its 680 bst in attack a stat that it generally doesnt use, and i think it would be cool if we could make it an adaptive mixed attacker somehow. To that end i am suggesting giving it tough claws (110*1.3=143 which is pretty close to the 154 it has in spkatk) add adding some cool options to its learn set, sucker punch and pursuit both being potential options i think worth considering for the ultimate lifeform
What about ice scales for articuno
@@umwha the things that arti are weak to are mostly physical, rock and steel being the big ones, ice scales would help it be a special wall but I actually think it already has the spdef for that (again I am thinking of vgc because with sneaky pebbles arti will never make it in Smogon except maybe with boots but if it loses boots it's done for)
@@joshuaturner4602 yes ice scales boosts the sp def which it’s already good on. But preserving physical frailty gives the opponent some recourse . Alternately you could give it prism armour
@@umwha I dont think prism armor is a good fit, (or at the very least I think it should remain the signature ability of Necrozma) but The reason why I think Frosty Plumage (Fur Coat) is better than ice scales is actually to give an opponent a chance, Snow is +50% defence, which would stack with Furcoat making it very indestructible on that side, but Ice Sacles is 2x Spdef
If you put 0 investment into spdef and add Ice Scales you get 234 spdef, and then also 250 defence (because of snow and maxium investment into defence)
With Fur Coat you would have 235 defence with an uninvested defence in the snow and 194 spedef now the likely hood would be that the lower stats would be higher because Bulbapedia says that the minimum numbers I used here include 0 IV, 0EV and a hindering nature. Rather than being very bulky on both sides its now at least touchable on the special side
Of course the Furcoat version might run like Icy wind, Blizzard, Freeze dry, Hurricane + Assault vest which wouldn't make it do much damage but would allow it to stick around being annoying for a long time (especially if it receives the occasional heal pulse or whatever. ) but with maximum investment into bulk the frosty bird would be very annoying but not particularly damaging. ice is a solid defenceive type and 125 spatk is nothing to snease at but its not enough I think to push arti over the line.
On switch in only Dialga can move for 1 turn, -and maybe grab a road roller idk-
Mewtwo should have an ability called Berserker Gene and it should be a Blaze clone for Psychic type moves. It wouldnt be amazing but thematically it works and its a nice reference to the movie
There is an item with that name in the Johto games
@@Jaxson62 i knew the name felt familiar
yea it's like consumable item self swagger
Magic Guard Dialga? (For unga bunga Steel Beams)
Magic Bounce Palkia? (Makes too much sense for the spatial pokemon)
Psychic Surge Mewtwo? (Calyrex needs nerfing straight up)
I still think you should've include the unova legendaries since the tao abilities are literally just mold breaker again.
The Tao abilities are the only Mold Breaker to get through abilities like Shadow Shield and Full Metal Body actually so it technically is a good niche to have just they're bad pokemon otherwise. I love the suggestions on Dialga/Palkia though, Mewtwo honestly no matter what ability you gave it unless it's some As One duo with two dumber abilities than Unnerve and Grim Neigh (unironically my thought went to a Wonder Guard combination but if we aren't going too absurd Psychic Surge and Intimidate could be a good route to go, or like some omni boost ability) its the Calyrex competition it has to deal with, since even with a stat nerf to match Mewtwo, Calyrex's signature move even if it got nerfed to like 80% accuracy would be the big thing giving it dominance tbh.
raikou speed boost , giratina cursed body, mewtwo berserk/ neuroforce,
lugia anger point (in the anime it is stated lugia gets stronger the angrier it gets )
dialga stamina (because stamina is time related I guess)
Dialga should have an ability that sets up Trick Room on switch in. I feel like that’s really obvious as the Pokemon in charge of time
tried to limit the new abilities as much as possible, obv not a requirement but where I saw fit without getting repetitive if I found an ability that could have worked I went with that.
Why not strengthen the connection that Talonflame and Moltres had in the anime with giving it gale wings?
tried not outright outclassing it, at least with the Zapdos one Kilowattrel still has like a much faster speed stat and Electroweb over Zapdos, and Zapdos would still run Static in a lot of games over Wind Power anyway as cool as it'd be on some sets
I think weather and terrain setting moves should be found more often on legendaries. Controls in the weather and environment is very legendary energy
Lugia should have a water ability to do it justice, either swift swim or a water type "rocky payload" (making its water moves get STAB)
Palkia should have an ability where it can hit pokemon even if they're using moves like fly and stuff, since it is the god of space.
Hospitality also sounds nice on Ho-oh. Or Draught.
I hate pressure absolutely sucks as an ability stall has been died a long time ago
Gamefreak should just get rid of the ability
Ive said for years that Mewtwo should get Neuroforce as it makes the MOST sense!
it makes too much sense and it's a shame we haven't seen it yet after the introduction in gen 7
Choice scarf Mewtwo with neuroforce as an ability and using Shadowball would destroy Calyrex shadow rider
I've just realized that the only 3 trans or gay TH-camrs I watch all make Pokémon videos. It's strange that it's only Pokémon videos though lol.
I was thinking, and seeing as Dialga and Palkia's niche is Trick Room, maybe an ability for them that triggers Trick Room when they enter the field could be interesting.
And thematically it would make sense, especially with Palkia being the god of space and with Trick Room "The dimensions are twisted"
And I don't feel like it would be super broken, because you could also accidentally remove your own Trick Room if you bring it out onto the field while it's active.
But it would be pretty powerfull and it would make them feel more in pair with other restricted
I mean, Urshifu isn't restricted and this mf ls just ignoring protect
Articuno: Snow warning
Zapdos: Drizzle
Moltres Drought
I will NEVER forgive them for giving preassure to Ernatus ... And for not making its g-max form obtainable. Coolest pokemon ever
Your pronouncing eternatus was nearly offensive it was so wrong
I will continue pronouncing it like that I like it!
Raikou and Ho-Oh need to get a new move. Raikou should get thunderclap and Ho-Oh should get revival blessing
Hi I like your videos
Also I would like a video about how 3 types could effect competitive
give lugia a water stab
I would give moltres Gale Wings
Just give mewtwo psychic terrain
Not thinking of giving Raikou drizzle is embarrassing. It's literally carrying a raincloud on its back, noted by Pokedex. I think for that reason, it should also get hurricane and weatherball. They're thematically logical moves for it to have. Now, Raikou has amazing coverage and high damage in 100% accurate thunder and hurricane and boosted water type weatherball, while being one of the best weather support pokemon ever.
It's also pronounced Rye-koo not rye-koh. Its name translates to thunder lord. Kou is pronounced koo, whereas you pronounce it as ko(which translates to child).
you are 100% wrong about raikou's pronunciation
it has the same name in japanese and it is pronounced ra-i-kō
furthermore, 子 would be pronounced with a short o, unlike the "-kou", which has a long o
