I like to see older people with white hair, but thwir entire head is white/gray. I find it looks elegant on them. But I have gray hair here and there, and I don't like how it looks hahaha
Or they have the silver looking hair that usually go with black hair. I have dark brown hair, and I don't think it looks good. Looks mousy, and I look more washed out.
I’m a radiologist and I started a night job about 6 months ago. Not only did my face look much older very fast and I got depressed, my hair went white too! Needless to say, I’ve already put in my resignation and will be out of this job in the summer. Money ain’t worth hits to health!
My beautiful kind mother who we lost last year at age 88 had a full head of hair with its original dark brown color with only a few stands of gray. She never colored it since it just never turned grey. She was a lifelong vegetarian. None sure if that made any difference. She was a remarkable woman. Love and miss you Mom ❤️
My mum is that age. Jet black hair with very few greys. Eats meat, fish, all foods. Including deep fried stuff and lots of sweets. Has drunk wine all her life. Smoked for decades. Never exercised, let alone do any sport. She just won the gene lottery is my guess.
I had a bunch of gray in my early 30's when I was working excessively, and struggling financially. I'm in my 40's now, with a good job and no debt. My hair color has restored itself. No pills needed. You just need to remove stress from you life. Not always an easy thing, I know.
My sister-in-law had black hair, even though she was born blonde. By the time she was 24, she had her first grey hairs. By the time she was thirty, she colored it. Eventually, she got tired of it and just let it go fully grey-and it was beautiful, very silvery and sparkly! She has lovely pink undertones in her skin, sky blue eyes and a young, smooth face for her age (66). I think she looks just beautiful!
I have definitely personally seen gray hair get reversed. When my mom was diagnosed with cancer, I started getting a ton of grey hairs. I was only 41. I was so worried about her. After treatment, she entered remission. The cessation of the stress led to my gray hair slowly going away.
Maybe there's hope for me! My dad had Stage IV cancer twice, and now I am about 40% grey at 36. He's got to go 5 years without recurrence, and he's at 4 years now, so not quite in remission yet.
Hello, I’m 61 and have decided it’s time to let my gray come in. I have talked it over with my hairdresser and it’s going to be a journey about a year with her help. We started last month lightning my color up. I just can’t justify anymore paying $185+ tip every six weeks. It’s time to let what God had given me to come in! 😊
go cold turkey, if ur hairdresser is lightening, toning whatever, it will not be much different than coloring it and there will be different colors as it grows in, unless u keep with the “lightening” just my opinion, i let it go cold turkey, took 2 years but it went by quickly, best thing i ever did
I second the "go cold turkey" with a little caveat or two. First, I did this, about 5 years ago, at age 52. Best decision ever. Yes, you'll have ombre hair at some point. You know what? I got COMPLIMENTS on the OMBRE HAIR! LOL. Never got compliments when I colored it. For the first several months just use a powder to cover the roots. Works a charm. Then as it grows out more, just wear hats if you don't care for that look, OR (what I did sometimes) use a wash-out color like the Roux Fanciful. Also works great. I have the most gorgeous platinum hair now, with lovely dark lo-lights (also natural, I never color it.). It's also healthy and shiny, which it wasn't before. :)
@@gigikc6503 Same here. I would get a haircut every couple of months that took off 2-3" each visit until the faded, colored ends were gone. I have dark brown hair so the color faded to an unpleasant orange/peach shade. I bought blue shampoo & conditioner that helped tone down the orange cast. It helped make the ends more livable until I could cut it all off.
My dad started taking astaxanthin supplements which are antioxidants and completely unexpectedly his gray hair began to turn dark again all over his whole head. When he stops taking those supplements his hair went back to gray. When he started taking them again it started to turn dark again. That was definitely surprising but undeniable unintended results
@@rachel7550I started getting grey hair here and there, then some more and then I got cancer. Hair fell off. I started taking a lot of ayurvedic supplements (worked wonders for me) early in that journey. After chemo, hair grew back and it started to turn grey fast. I started taking amla powder - besides being great for health overall, it was said to help with hair (delaying grey hair or even reversing it). My hair slowly went back to my natural colour and of course, I do not dye my hair. I still take amla every morning. It's been 4 years, I'm 42 now, happy with my hair.
I'm half gray now because I stopped dying my hair almost 2 years ago now. I actually enjoy the white highlights in my hair and at age 59 was ready to give up the chemicals. I do have chronic iron deficient issues. Many people think women are "letting themselves go" when they decide to let their hair be natural but I actually think the opposite. By not slathering on hair dye chemicals I think we are taking better care of ourselves. The best thing I noticed is that within 5 months my hair thinning stopped and I started growing in hair in my temples and got thicker hair after not dying.
My mother had almost black hair all her life and started going gray in her 40's. She dyed it dark for decades. Once she turned 70, which is when the pandemic hit, she let her hair grow out fully gray. She's never had more compliments about her hair in her whole life. It looks incredible on her. She now says she would've let it go gray decades ago had she knew how nice it would look.
@@recuerdos2457 I agree, it depends on the person. People with sallow skin can look worse with grey hair, whereas people with rosy undertones can look good with it. People with very young looking skin can look good with it, too. I know I won’t look good with it because when i wear the color grey, it completely drains the color of my skin.
Many people have giving my mom compliments about her grey hair, too. And it never bothered her that she had grey hair. Even when she was really young. But for many people it can be really annoying. It is different if you are in your 50s or older, but if you start to get grey when you are in your 20s or 30s, it's really not cool.
Hi Dr.Dray, in India, women apply mehendi or henna ( a natural dye ) to their hair to cover grey hair or to get shiny hair. Mehendi is made of natural herbs and you can make it yourself or buy it. After applying it, you get a nice brown colour. Henna is believed to be very beneficial for hair due to its anti fungal properties.
I've been dyeing my mousy brown with lots of white hair dark with plant based hair color for over a decade. I do a double dye, though. First at least an hour if pure henna and then 2-1/2 h of pure Indigo. It's super annoying, because it takes a full 1/2 day every three weeks (I hate having visible roots), but it looks amazing and my hair is strong and shiny.
@@raraavis7782 currently a natural brunette but have been finding gray strands randomly so not sure what’s to come. Thanks for sharing what you do although I don’t understand it fully as I haven’t colored. I feel I need a game plan ready to go if things change. I think I understand the first step but what’s indigo? It sounds like the color is good for your hair. I already have textured hair so anything that strengthens it and makes it soft is appealing.
I love the henna color on my hair..but henna makes my hair fall..I feel a burning sensation when I use it and my hair becomes dry after a while.. even though at first looks really good
I freed my grey at 62 and LOVE it. I am a ginger and my grey is kind of a natural blondish-greyish balyage vibe. I let it grow during the lockdown, got a great layered cut and it's wonderful (if I say so myself). ❤
I have had this personally happen to me “ I was in a high stress situation and also dealing with gut issues and candida overgrowth . I had a huge gray area and it was cool looking at the time , but I knew my health was at risk , I stopped eating carbs and gluten and added some probiotics and also started eating organ meat and Amla caps my hair was coming back in black at the root ! My daughter was astonished , also low levels of copper can cause hair to gray . But I do think all these gray haired beauties are fabulous!!!
I've seen ads here on TH-cam for products that claim to 'reverse' gray hair. I used to color my hair, for many years in fact. During the beginning of lockdown, I decided to stop and let my natural color (gray and all) grow out. My hair is also naturally very dry/curly so discontinuing hair coloring was a good decision. My hair is in much better condition now and suffers less tangling. I feel freed from chasing that line of demarcation every 6 weeks! I also use a purple shampoo & conditioner every couple of weeks to brighten up the silver strands. 🙂
I LOVE GRAY HAIR! I’m 43 and I stopped dying and highlighting my hair in 2017. I’ve barely gotten any grays. It’s really annoying. I’m just happy I HAVE hair 💜💜💜
My mom went gray at 33. my brother had a grey streak in the front at 17, and I started going gray at 30. My other brother and sister held out til their 50's! I color my hair because I had very dark brown hair and didn't like it gray, it washed me out. My sister-in-law on the other hand was blonde and turned gray gradually and it looks beautiful and natural on her.
I’ll be 50 in 3 weeks and embraced my natural gray/white hair just over a year ago and couldn’t be happier. After dyeing it since I was 14 it’s a welcomed change. It’s softer thicker and just more beautiful than ever and the compliments keep coming
My mother went through Chemo treatments, some of the hairs around her forehead have come back black and curly, just like when she was a young girl. Very interesting, Dr. Dray
My dad had lymphoma. He was cured. He lost all his hair...it grew back darker at 70. I've noticed after an accident I had banding on some strands... color, white back to color. Thank you and as always you are brilliant with knowledge... It shows in your skin, hair and bright eyes. 🍃🌸
I was born with a lot of baby gray hairs and they have stayed around all my life. Now in my 40s, more gray hairs are showing up and to be honest I love them. I have no intention of covering them. I prefer to just care for my hair in whatever color it turns. I aspire to have hair like Storm from the X-Men 🤍 😊
I started getting gray hair during high school. My dad was gray by 21. For years I colored my hair (now 69), but during the Pandemic I decided to go natural. I've worn my hair short for years, so it didn't take long to lose the "line of demarcation." I actually love the gray but what I REALLY love is the $$ I save!!! And I get more compliments on my hair & light blue eyes now than I ever did before. Win/win!
Me too! I was mostly doing it because my wife wanted me to color it. I colored it brown for a few years but got tired of doing it. I turned 60 this year and just told her NO i'm not coloring my goatee and eyebrows and what else.? The hair on my arms.? LOL. So I quit. Seriously I think everyone could tell I was using color.... but I get more compliments on my natural gray / dark look than I ever did when it was brown. Also my gray hair is coming in thicker now. It is a real sense of freedom going all natural. I love it.
I found my first grey hair at 26. I plucked it and kept it in a box! 😂 I’m 41 now and have a grey streak that is slowly expanding. I think grey is beautiful so I’ll be letting it grow in.
I’m graying early at the age of 27. To be honest, the thought of buying hair dye every month exhausts me so I have decided to just let it be. On the bright side, I’ll finally have highlights on my black hair 😊
Oh Lord please give me good news Dr. Dray 😭! My mom and dad are both gray and it happened in their early 20’s. I’m 35 now and it’s getting OUT OF CONTROL! It’s depressing 😩! Going every 6 weeks for root coverage isn’t even soon enough.. they’re back in like the second week 😭😭😭😭😭!!! I have black hair so it’s so obvious and not hidden as well as someone who has blonde hair. I’m already self-conscious with getting older, and the gray hair doesn’t help.. it just makes me feel worse. I’m severely anemic and I had to have a hysterectomy five weeks ago.. so I’m hoping, praying, and wishing that once my iron levels goes back to normal hopefully it’ll help my hair 😅!
😭This is the reason I got highlights, but that’s so damaging for the hair😭 I’m using Hair Mayraki Anti-Grey treatment now, which works amazing. Might be worth looking into. It did make my hair darker, but since yours is black I suspect that’s not a problem for you. Wait for a discount though, they have that a lot!
@@womanofacertainage5892 I just can’t 😭.. I already feel so self conscious about aging as it is.. and I’m not one to wear makeup everyday.. I feel like I would just look so haggard if I didn’t continue dying it. I’m just not ready yet 😪. I’m literally going to get my hair colored this Tuesday 🤣.
I stopped coloring my hair when I turned 50. I'm 63 now and my hair is mostly gray, white and silver. Just a little brown left in the back. I LOVE my hair now.
When my grandpa turned 80 he started eating less and eating only food that he could easily digest like boiled vegetables, fish and chicken. His hair became black again and we were surprised to see him one day reading without glasses.
If that's true it's the vitamins. The tyrosine that's needed in the body she's talking about comes from red meat 🥩. So probably B1 and B12 ate what's needed to get back.
Your hair is so beautiful. Looks so soft and shiny. Got my first greys in my early 20s. I would guess I'm maybe 40% grey now at 36. I dyed my hair for about 10 years, and fried it trying to cover it up. Don't like being grey.
Good morning Dr Dray! I don't have any gray hair yet but I agree with you that I think it looks beautiful! My grandmother-in-law has waist length white hair and I think it's so gorgeous.
Early greying runs in my family, with most of us having found our first grey in high school. I have my grandmother's senior photo from 1943, which she sent to my grandfather during the WWII. On the back, she writes "You can't tell from this photo, but my hair is going grey fast. I don't care. It makes me look dignified." I like that attitude! It has helped me embrace my silver strands.
At 65 I’m finally letting my gray grow out. In hindsight, I wish I’d never colored it. It would have saved me a lot of money and I’m actually loving it!!
i went gray rather quickly before turning 30 (around 28-29). chronic stress, inconsistent diet, inconsistent sleep, tons of coffee, frequent viral infections during grad school turned me gray. I thought it would reverse after I remove myself from the stressful situation but it unfortunately never went back to being colored. Now I am 34, my life continued being stressful and my hair is progressively getting whiter. I am approx. 60% gray already.
I could not wait to go "silver". I just felt it would look good with my coloring. I get way more compliments about my hair now than I ever did when I had the auburn hair I was born with. Strangely, more men than women give me the compliments.
You're like a breath of fresh air here, everyone else is complaining about how much they hate their gray hair, I would too, because I associate gray hair with old/elderly people in nursing homes some where, I'm a senior who loves my "Silver" crown, I use certain shampoos to make sure it retains it's texture and color as opposed to that yellowish tint I see on some seniors......🌹
It is amazing how differently you're perceived once you go grey. I used to pass for being younger than my years, but having let my hair go grey, I started getting offered seats on the bus! Still, I don't choose to mess with hair dye because it really doesn't stay ash toned and requires a great deal of expensive upkeep. So grey pride it is.
Thank you! Understandable. I am 67 and color my hair because I have little gray. My problem has been hair lose due to losing lots of weight and stress from a bad and ultimately failed marriage. I like how you stress that no one should make you feel bad because of insensitive comments. Everyone should do what is right for them and leave others to live their life as they choose. Great advice for all aspects of society.
I was in a stressful work situation for a couple years (20-22) and I start growing gray hairs rapidly. I'm out of it now, gray hairs are still growing, but my husband found a strand this weekend that was gray on the bottom half and dark brown on the top half growing from my scalp. I was confused lol and thanks to this video, I now understand that it HAD to be the stress I was under. Thanks for this info Dr. Dray!
bcuz the hair follicle was dying. it started out dark but as the follicle dies the hair loses it's color. once that happens, when u cut your hair it will then grow back completely grey/gray. unless it was from a nutrient (copper) deficiency. when we're under stress our hormones and body's digestive system gets thrown out of whack and we can become nutrient deficient in a few areas or a lot.
❤When my mother had a massive stroke when she was 88, we noticed her head full of grey hair were reversing back to black which was her original color. The roots of her hair were growing black. Thats when we realized, it is possible to turn grey back to original color. What happened?
This topic is really dear to my heart. I have natural dark brown hair and I want to keep my hair color, but I'm starting to get quite a lot of gray hair at the age of 32. Some of my dark haired family members have went blonde because of the gray hair, so they are less visible. 😕
Also figure out ways to destress your life (as an adult, obviously!) I started going gray as a teenager growing up in an ACE/ACES environment. Now that I'm in my 40s have finally started dealing with the emotional / physical ramifications of that but hair is a big part of feeling good. I just started dying my gray hairs hot pink - the pink covers the gray and looks fun so when I look at it, I find enjoyment and doesn't look like I'm trying to dye it to look younger. The dye also conditions my hair and makes it so soft and shiny.
Yes…it happened to me. My hair is a natural dark brown. It started greying in my late 20’s. Totally silver by my late 50’s. I colored it all along until 5 years ago. Let it go. I loved the silver and so did many people. In the past few years, in my mid 60’s, I started to take minerals, electrolytes (iron, zinc, magnesium, potassium, etc) and other nutrients for health reasons, and my hair began to turn dark brown again. Many of the silver hairs fell out, and most new growth is very dark. To the point that I wish it would stop! I miss the silver😫
I had my first grey hair at the age of 13. I suspected a lot of stress but the doctor recommended biotin. Good to know that's the solution (and it didnt make any difference in my case). Couple of years later I improved my diet, went vegan and don't get more grey hair anymore.
I ate 5 raw eggs a day (eggs are heavy in biotin) and I found one hair coming out of my scalp that was grey at tip and brown at the root. But ultimately, my grey hairs keep coming more by the year. Started around 19, and I'm 24 now. It's to the point now where people call me out about 4/5 times a year. Luckily, my beard has red in the chin, and I have black hairs too, so it's cool having brown, blonde, red, black, and white hairs on my body.
I’m only 31, but started getting greys a few years ago. It’s something that bothers me and I’m not ready to give up the dye yet!🙁I love my hair dark brown/black!
I saw a young lady today with lots of grey hair and I must say it looked great, she had a young face so she didn't look old even with the grey . Also I look very young even though I'm 42 now and started to grey, kinda looks cool.
I had my first grey hairs at 18, no kidding. By 25 I was regularly dying my hair, at 43 I still do. Everyone in my family went grey prematurely. It is what it is. 🤷🏻♀️
Same. I'm 57 now and completely white/silver I do colour it though still. I was very dark brown originally and I've gone blonder to ease me into being white. I can't wait
Genetics: My father's mother had only a few grays at 72. My father had black hair through his mid 80's. It took his late 80's before he had more gray than black. He passed at 90 and still had some black hair. My Mom also had her brown hair through her 80's and passed at age 90 with more brown than gray. They lived through the Great Depression and WWII. My Dad was a disabled Vet from WWII. He had a chronic lung condition from untreated pneumonia developed during the war.He always looked younger than his age. Dad had Italian background and Mom Irish. Mom had trauma of being orphaned as a child and her brother killed at age 19 in WWII and her step dad drowning and her step mom widowed. Dad easy going/ Mom more high strung. Both loving and family oriented. My brother and I are in our 70's and both have some gray. Just anecdotal. All colors are beautiful! Thanks Doctor! Love all your information!
I ignored hair dye allergies for years until one day, the last time I dyed my hair, my body went into anaphylaxis shock. I’ve been grey now for 3 years and I absolutely love it. I get compliments constantly from strangers. As they say, every cloud has a silver lining, pun intended 😉
@@CAEO416 I'm asking because I'm starting to feel like my dye is causing me issues as well. I'm 49 and dye my roots monthly. I use an aloe vera based dye, but I feel horrible the day after I dye my hair. Lethargic, not right, brain fog. I wasn't correlating the two until this past month.
I absolutely second what Dr Dray said about reversal. I go through these cycles of falling/graying during stressful times and I get back to normal healthy hair later on.
I'm 62 without grey hair. my morning routine consists of collagen, vitamin C, vitamin d3, b-complex, astaxanthin, omega 7 buckthorn oil, magnesium, a probiotic, and spirulina. Yes, the carpet matches the drapes. Oh and my hair and nails grow like crazy
I was born with a patch of grey hair. It went away and came back when I was a teenager. By 20 I was coloring my hair. I have lupus so I wonder if it has to do anything with that. With the Covid I got really sick and I got tellogen effluvium. I stop coloring my hair. I am actually enjoying the grays and not to have to color my hair. I had low vitamin D, anemia, low ferritin and a long list of health issues cause by the lupus. I am owning my grays. I guess after losing almost 70% of my hair I feel grateful I still have hair.
I got my first gray hair at age 7. by age 10, I got hundred a year. How I know is my sister would pluck and count them, having couple hundred in middle school. Kids did make fun of me, and I didn't like people pointing it out. I did have a stressful childhood, however so did my older siblings and none of them had any or few gray hair. I take a b complex, keep stress low, sleep, fasting, hoping to halt any further graying.
Hey, same with me. I got my first gray hair at around 7. It went on increasing in number over the years. So when I was like 18 one could see I had gray hair even from a distance (the rest was black). Even though I wanted my hair long I couldn't grow it because I was really fed up with kids at school asking me why I had gray hair. Now I am 28, and starting from like 3 years before my gray hair started disappearing. My hair now resembles what it was like when I was 16. I hope it will be fully black by the time I turn 30.
I’m 24 and I have gray hairs. Unfortunately, my family went gray prematurely, so I didn’t luck out. It does make me insecure (I dye the roots, but still), but always good to remind myself that gray hair is normal.
Allegedly Andy Warhol dyed his hair grey because it made him look younger. Since people assumed, that his grey hair meant he was older than he really was, he always looked "very young for his age". There are things to be said about him, but he might have had a point with that theory.
I was born vegetarian, and after my period started at 14, my hair was suddenly turned into grey worsenthanmy grandma. At that time, my grandpa ordered traditional supplement syrups and gave me to take it with meals. After taking 3 months every day, my hair returned back to normal colour dark brown. I thought that syrup was making with honey as it was really tasty. Since then, I've never gotten grey again and I have very strong and thick long hair.
@@rocky-en3ze I don't remember exactly for that supplement syrup brand name. But I never forget that the taste was mostly like honey, cinnamon and after having it with dinner, I can sleep very well whole night. It has very smooth and sweet taste. I thought it would be from India bcoz my grandparents had a lot of friends in India and they liked many products from there.
Fascinating and that explains what happened to me. At 26yo, I noticed a bunch of greys in my hair, I was sad because I love my natural hair colour and didn't want to have to dye it. I pulled them out with tweezers.😊 I actually never got more of them and I always wondered how? At 25yo, I was in a highly abusive relationship and under constant stress. I never had such stress ever since and at 32yo, I still have zero greys and my hair reaches my waist. 😊
I'm 48 years old, and I stopped dying my hair five years ago. I love my wavy gray hair. Having no wrinkles makes me feel more confident since my friends are still pressuring me to dye my hair. With age, even my eyes became lighter in color. Originally I had hazel-colored eyes, but now they are almost completely green.
I’ve stopped colouring my hair now at 52. I don’t mind the gray but am unhappy with my hair’s frizzy texture. If anyone here is using products that help their straight grays be shiny and smooth, please share your recommendations!
@BlowoutProfessor has excellent tutorials. I switched to Redken shampoo and conditioner, a leave-in conditioner, a heat protectant and a monthly hair mask. Made a world of difference, and I live in south Texas.
@TXoma I agree. He has wonderful information. I had to apply the coarse hair treatment but it has definitely been working. My frizz has decreased alot. I am 56 and snow white hair now that I am starting to slowly let go natural. I hated patients calling me grandma when in 40s.
For men dying is very high maintenance because we start getting a grey beard. I am only 39 but my beard is starting to grow quite grey and that really makes a difference in how old it makes you look. Like you said some people may want to embrace it and that is great for them but I (like many) am happier if I look as young as possible, so I have to dye my stubble every other day or so. In addition. the grey hairs on my head are a pain to dye, they are much harder to take the dye in, sometimes need to use higher concentrations of peroxide and in only 3 weeks they start getting noticeable again. So really it's so high maintenance, I would definitely take some pills if they'd find a way to reverse/prevent it. Generally trying to look younger is exhausting, from daily makeup, to hair dying, to hours in the gym, supplements, skin care, eating well, sleeping enough.....
thanks but the issue with beards is that they grow very fast. You dye it and in 2-3 days you can see grey hairs again. This is also because the hairs are not kept too long so in 2/3 days 50% of lenght of the hair is grey. It is extremely high maintenance.@@tjgrafiks
I found my first grey hair when I was 23 years old in the midst of a very lengthy stressful life event. I watched more and more appear in the same area of my head until age 29. At 29, I found my first hair that started growing brown again. Then found several more. Some are even grey-brown-grey-brown down the same strand. Not sure if it was stress or a nutritional deficiency yet, but I saved the hairs in a zip bag to remind myself that’s it’s possible to grow them brown again. 😅 Though I’m also excited to have a head full of grey hair when the time comes. 👩🏻🦳
Great to see a video on thsi topic which is not often discussed. I actually have had single hairs where you can see where they went white, but then returned to growing black again. Thought it was all stress, but could also be anemia.
My hair turned snow white....all of it...all over my body during the year my mom died from covid. 2 years later my head hair is growing in dark brown again....the roots are dark with white ends...the hair on my legs which had all been lasered off 10 years ago is growing back dark again. What ? How is this possible?
I had 2 babies under 2 and after my second I got some gray strands. I was only 27 at the time. They haven’t gone away but I am still highly stressed. 😅
My husband is 87 and has very little grey hair and lots of hair! He was blond and still has blondness in his hair. He did not stop smoking until he was 63. All of his sisters went gray early. Our children want his genes. Thanks for your video, I have learned so much!
I've had gray hair since I was four years old. It worsened during my teenage years and once I turned 18 , I spoke with my doctor and he (an elderly man) told me that it was because I was "old". Sure, we are always aging, but I got rid of him because he acted though something was wrong with me after I showed him that some strands were alternating between gray and dark brown while other gray strands had dark brown roots (in retrospect, he simply didn't have an answer). During my pregnancy, I lost color, which slowly returned after my child was born. I went through extreme stress, and a different part of my hair turned gray. I was recently diagnosed with extremely low iron, which was found three years ago and is finally being address (the doctor failed to inform me), low B12 (not the first time), low vitamin D, so I am working on it. Half of my bangs are currently gray and the short hairs at the front of my scalp ("baby hairs") are starting to turn black, again. My point? I have been reversing gray hair all of my life...without those scammer pills. I agree with Dr. Dray, skip the supplements and ask your doctor to check for vitamin deficiencies before wasting money on unknown supplements.
Genetically predisposed, I went prematurely grey and dyed my hair for decades. For many reasons I needed to stop and gradually grew it out. Honestly, it's a pretty shade of silver, white and strands of my natural, dark brown. I eat nutritious food, take vitamins and avoid styling products and tools that can damage it. I don't know how it is for men, but many folks make assumptions and remarks about my hair because of the attitude that when a woman "allows" herself to go grey, she has let her appearance "go," as well as she must be "retired." I still am years away from being able, if ever, to retire. I far prefer my hair to be healthy and natural looking than fake and damaged, which is what it was becoming. I am in good physical shape, and whereas I could likely benefit from cosmetic surgery, I really can't afford it. I do use retinol and follow a skin care regimen. I have seen both men and women my age looking a lot older than I do but I can only turn back the clock so much. I am so weary of the attitude that women need to maintain an impossible standard of youth and that advancing age is something they need to be ashamed of; I also refuse to become invisible because some people don't think older women have sex appeal/ value. I have been talking collagen for a year and it has made a difference in my hair, skin and nails. My hair has been coming in darker as a result of the peptides; while I would certainly welcome a complete reversal of grey, I know that's not likely and appreciate how I have been able to improve my appearance with diet and exercise. I just wish some folks would grow up already about the signs of getting older and keep their ageist, sexist comments to themselves.
@@notaclue822 In the beginning I loaded, meaning I took collagen pills, powder and drank collagen water. Now I put the powder in my coffee (I like Vital Proteins Professional Line) I mix about a half scoop per cup so it dissolves better and drink two cups-so one scoop in the am. I also use their gelatin, ahalf scoop in a third cup, mixed in with a bit of water to liquefy it first; it also contains collagen. On occasion I drink collagen water later in the day. Every brand of collagen will give you dosage-I think it helps in the beginning to take more and get it on board. Hope that helps.
If you want to retrain your brown hair color, I highly recommend Moroccan oil color depositing mask. Helps my color stay dark using once a week but fades naturally so I won’t have to grow out my color when I get more grey hairs.
Interesting video! I’ve been totally white platinum gray since my early 40’s. As a child I was white platinum blonde, turning to regular blonde in my teens thru the 30’s then back to white platinum again lol. In my case it’s genetics but hair is hair and it’s easier to learn to love what you’ve got than stress over trying to achieve what one sees as perfection. Perfection is what we already are naturally and it makes us who we uniquely are. I’m 71 now and people have complimented my hair since my 50’s. So just love who we are and enjoy the ride! ❤
I started getting gray in my mid thirties but just a few here and there. I started noticing a lot more in my 40's and started coloring my hair at that time and am still coloring to this day. While I think that in some ways it would be so freeing to just stop coloring and embrace the gray, I'm not quite ready yet. Thanks for the interesting topic today. Happy Friday, Dr Dray! I hope you, your sweet momma and little Tybee have a fantastic and fun weekend! ❤
I think we should also just normalize going gray at any age. I’m growing my natural hair out to let my grays come in and I’m in my 30’s. Society wants us to cover the grays, when we should be embracing them.
This explains my thinning and gray hair. I had food allergies that didn't upset my stomach, so my body was swollen (inflammation), some vitamin deficiencies and undiagnosed adhd, so I was stressed out all the time and have trouble sleeping, so my hair sucks... I'm going bald, I went gray in my 30's... I've been able to fix a lot of the issues and got that red-light helmet you also recommended and my hair has thickened up. I still have a lot of gray, but I still struggle to sleep enough. Anyways, I think it all matters.
I started graying at 18 and colored for 30 years. After I turned 50, I decided to let it fly and I love it now. Mostly grey at the front which fades into dark brown at the nape. Can't get that from a bottle. My grandfather was white haired by age 25 so there is no fighting it. Plus the senior discounts come I handy 😊
I have seen my own grey hairs reverse in the same strand. Started out grey, then pigment started to come out later in the same hair strand. Don't know how or why, but can confirm greys can reverse. Hope this helps.
My mom was a redhead and never really went grey even though she lived to 87. Just a bit at the temples. I am 60 and still have a lot of my natural color, but it's graying now pretty quickly
I very good friend of mine, who had straight black hair, underwent chemotherapy and all his hair fell out. When it was growing out again, it came out pure white. But that was only for maybe 4mm. It became solid black with white ends. It was really cool looking, and also unbelievable to me (literally, if I hadn't seen the progression)!
I have read that cashews help keep gray hair away. It's related to their high amounts of copper. I know it's probably anecdotal but I still try to eat a handful of cashews everyday. And I have less gray hair than my husband who's the same age!😄
I’m 65 and I was 65-70% gray. I met a woman who gave her 93 yr old mom Nuevo-Mag which is Magnesium L-Threonate. Her totally gray hair returned to her normal color. So I began taking Nuevo-Mag and all my gray hair reversed back to normal dark brown color. My doctor says d to keep taking it. It’s also great for improving memory, which is why they were giving it to their 93 yr old mom. So I have had great success with this nutrient in reversing my gray hair along with improved memory.
@@shinysen Magnesium is very good to take for a lot of problems, including insomnia. So you should give it a try and see the results. If I had grey hair, I would.
I spotted my first grey hair when I was about 18. I'm now 39 and the amount of grey is starting to increase. It doesn't bother me, and I don't color to cover. Imo it's much easier to just let nature take its course.
I love my natural salt & pepper. I get so many compliments and it actually looks so much better than dyeing. I don't think I'd go back to my dark hair at this point, even if it was an option.
I’m turning 40 in a couple months and I have been going grey significantly since I was 18. I have more gray than black. I decided when everything closed because of Covid I said whatever and let it grow. I kind of love it! ❤ lol
Grey hair is better than no hair! Learned that for myself after chemo in 2016. Grew back weirdly dark and curly. And about 30% diffuse grey. That’s Ok! 😅
I'm 24 and I have gray hairs. I had B12 deficiency because I'm vegetarian and the blood test proved it. Also I've been through a lot of stress the last 8 years (mostly the first 5) so that might be a reason as well. Last year I started taking supplements that my doctor recommended. I've seen difference in my mood and my thoughts and I hope the hair will get better because I don't like them especially the way they grow. My dad got very early gray hair unfortunately so I'm not very optimistic.
Hmm I might need to get more B12 then. I have also been crazy stressed for quite a few years. I am 26 and seeing some gray hairs I nevver had before. But no one in my family has grayed this young. I haven't been eating properly either which is probably not helping.
This explains so much. I have a few strands of hair that are black then blonde then black and it freaked me out. I started putting a rinse over it but it never really took. I will address it with my doctor and keep an eye out for it.
I notice that usually the people who say things like "Grey hair is beautiful" are the ones who don't have any.
This is true 😅
I like to see older people with white hair, but thwir entire head is white/gray. I find it looks elegant on them. But I have gray hair here and there, and I don't like how it looks hahaha
Facts. 💯
Or they have the silver looking hair that usually go with black hair. I have dark brown hair, and I don't think it looks good. Looks mousy, and I look more washed out.
I say it looks beautiful and I have a lot of grey hair at 30. Had it since grade 8.
I am so sorry that you've lost your mother. The wonderful woman that she was, as you've said. 💋

Correct. I left a similar comment regarding stress. I pulled them out and saw the hair strand itself reverse to the root...several inches.

go cold turkey, if ur hairdresser is lightening, toning whatever, it will not be much different than coloring it and there will be different colors as it grows in, unless u keep with the “lightening” just my opinion, i let it go cold turkey, took 2 years but it went by quickly, best thing i ever did
@@gigikc6503 In October it will be 2 years for me. I'm almost there and it has been the best thing for my hair. It grew in much thicker.
@@womanofacertainage5892 Thank you for sharing your experiences and great tips.

I decided not to fight the gray. Love the bright, glittery strands now!! Feels amazing and freeing.

Same, fellow silver sisters!
It depends on the person, my mom looks 20 older when she let herself go grey during the pandemic. But she s in her mid 50’s!!
Grey looks good on some skin colors

I turned 60 this year and just told her NO i'm not coloring my goatee and eyebrows and what else.? The hair on my arms.? LOL. So I quit.

Dray!
Yes! The same happened to me. Half white and half brown hair, the growing hair got its colour back. I definitely had a stressful event that caused it.
bcuz the hair follicle was dying. it started out dark but as the follicle dies the hair loses it's color. once that happens, when u cut your hair it will then grow back completely grey/gray. unless it was from a nutrient (copper) deficiency. when we're under stress our hormones and body's digestive system gets thrown out of whack and we can become nutrient deficient in a few areas or a lot.

I saw a young lady today with lots of grey hair and I must say it looked great, she had a young face so she didn't look old even with the grey . Also I look very young even though I'm 42 now and started to grey, kinda looks cool.
22 and I use shampoo color
My greys came at age 12. Dyed my hair in my 20s, gave up in my 30s.
I had my first grey hairs at 18, no kidding. By 25 I was regularly dying my hair, at 43 I still do. Everyone in my family went grey prematurely. It is what it is. 🤷🏻♀️
seeing your comment was like seeing myself in the mirror.same happened to me
Same, 18. I’m 40 now and I’d say 70% of my hair is gray under this hair dye.
better gray hair than no hair xD
Same. I'm 57 now and completely white/silver
I do colour it though still. I was very dark brown originally and I've gone blonder to ease me into being white. I can't wait
My first gray was in 4th grade!!! Had a little streak by 8th grade
I can not wait for mine to grow out completely! I have long hair and am excited to look unique and beautiful!
Use 100% natural hair color with no chemicals in there.
How old are you??
@@ascensionessentials 53
@@CAEO416 I'm asking because I'm starting to feel like my dye is causing me issues as well. I'm 49 and dye my roots monthly. I use an aloe vera based dye, but I feel horrible the day after I dye my hair. Lethargic, not right, brain fog. I wasn't correlating the two until this past month.
I absolutely second what Dr Dray said about reversal. I go through these cycles of falling/graying during stressful times and I get back to normal healthy hair later on.
How old are you
I'm 62 without grey hair. my morning routine consists of collagen, vitamin C, vitamin d3, b-complex, astaxanthin, omega 7 buckthorn oil, magnesium, a probiotic, and spirulina. Yes, the carpet matches the drapes. Oh and my hair and nails grow like crazy
do you take all that in the form of tablets (supplements)?
What brand of vit C?
I was born with a patch of grey hair. It went away and came back when I was a teenager. By 20 I was coloring my hair. I have lupus so I wonder if it has to do anything with that. With the Covid I got really sick and I got tellogen effluvium. I stop coloring my hair. I am actually enjoying the grays and not to have to color my hair. I had low vitamin D, anemia, low ferritin and a long list of health issues cause by the lupus. I am owning my grays. I guess after losing almost 70% of my hair I feel grateful I still have hair.
I have totally embrassed the Silver shine of my gray hair.
Thanks, Love ❤
Yes! And because everyone is dyeing it, it seems not to be normal… But it really is!
Allegedly Andy Warhol dyed his hair grey because it made him look younger. Since people assumed, that his grey hair meant he was older than he really was, he always looked "very young for his age". There are things to be said about him, but he might have had a point with that theory.
@@bugsandbrushesoesn’t everyone dye their hair to make themselves look younger? He’s not unique
Since then, I've never gotten grey again and I have very strong and thick long hair.
what supplements did he give u? ❤

I pulled them out with tweezers.😊
I actually never got more of them and I always wondered how?
A flat iron will take the frizz out
@BlowoutProfessor has excellent tutorials. I switched to Redken shampoo and conditioner, a leave-in conditioner, a heat protectant and a monthly hair mask. Made a world of difference, and I live in south Texas.
@@billmorlock5428 yes but drying sadly
@TXoma I agree. He has wonderful information. I had to apply the coarse hair treatment but it has definitely been working. My frizz has decreased alot. I am 56 and snow white hair now that I am starting to slowly let go natural. I hated patients calling me grandma when in 40s.
Jojoba oil after washing hair and before blow dry helped me a lot.
Generally trying to look younger is exhausting, from daily makeup, to hair dying, to hours in the gym, supplements, skin care, eating well, sleeping enough.....
have you tried Henna dye? let sit for about 45mins to 1hr. usually last a few weeks but less expensive and toxic than conventional hair dyes
thanks but the issue with beards is that they grow very fast. You dye it and in 2-3 days you can see grey hairs again. This is also because the hairs are not kept too long so in 2/3 days 50% of lenght of the hair is grey. It is extremely high maintenance.@@tjgrafiks
Okay but Dr Dray looks bomb with gray hair on the thumbnail!
I’m 35 and my dad was fully 100% white by his early 40s. I’m probably 10% grey and I’m planning to rock my long shimmering mermaid hairs
That's actually cool! Good idea saving them
Great to see a video on thsi topic which is not often discussed.
I went gray when I was on Accutane and found I had a zinc deficiency after. Once I corrected the deficiency the grays fell out. I'm 30.
@Sj Twix I worked with a registered dietitian to find the right zinc supplement to take for a time.
My hair finally turned silver in my 70s and I love it. My mom, sister and daughters all went white in their 40s. My daughters color their hair.
I had 2 babies under 2 and after my second I got some gray strands. I was only 27 at the time. They haven’t gone away but I am still highly stressed. 😅
I started getting gray at 60. I started eating more red meat and butter and now five years later it’s still dark. And my eyebrows came back.
What do you mean your eyebrows came back? They were gray but turned dark after the meat and butter?
My husband is 87 and has very little grey hair and lots of hair! He was blond and still has blondness in his hair. He did not stop smoking until he was 63. All of his sisters went gray early. Our children want his genes. Thanks for your video, I have learned so much!
Of course grey hair is less noticeable in blondes
omg I’m 29 and I’m greying quite aggressively. thank you for this!
Thanks for watching
Was hoping to learn more about the ingredients in the anti-gray supplements such as catalase, etc and how they proclaim to reverse graying
I envy your hair so much Dr. Dray. So full and wavy.
Im also grey but now id like to try collagen. How much do you take?
I don't mind the grey that much, but I want it to be as healthy as possible.
Well said❤️❤️❤️🤗
Would you mind saying how much collagen you consume each day?
@@betzib8021 Approximately 30 grams daily.
My husband, who is 56, doesn’t have a single grey hair. His explanation is that it all the red vine his been drinking is ❤preventing it. Lol. 🍷

Whatttt this is exactly my story..i am 29, .got diagnosed this year with adhd..have all the issues that you mentioned

Grey hair is 100% reversable. Yes, needs lots of nutrients in IV doses. I have seen it with my own eyes. Just not sure which nutrients do the most.
I don't mind the grey hair on my head, it's the stark white ones in my dark brown eyebrows I don't like.

Very informative. I lost a lot of hair after I had Covid as it recovered the new hair is gray.
