    This is the difference between an influencer and an actual medical professional who is qualified to give you advice. Influencers will swear up and down that you need those fad ingredients, toners, probiotics, whatever in your routine for the perfect skin with a discount code to boot. Medical professionals will promote the simplest routine possible that actually have scientific evidence backing it.

      It really annoys me that certain companies also sell their products for an ungodly amount of money. Then you check the ingredients and most of the time half the stuff in these creams, serums, and toners are inexpensive ingredients with loads of fragrances and irritants. Thankfully there are more and more companies who are stepping up their game and not overcharging us.

    Can we just take a moment to appreciate dr dray who recommends so many AFFORDABLE skincare options when many people in the skincare industry (esthetician’s, some plastic surgeons, spas, etc) will recommend the most outrageously priced skincare items......

    • @user-lv3pf2wz4d
      @user-lv3pf2wz4d 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      You have to realize that most of the AFFORDABLE drugstore skincare options are filled with parabens & preservatives than active ingredients. Estheticians recommend more expensive skincare items because they have more active ingredients that will target your specific skin concerns. Everyone's skin is different so not every product will work for everyone but you can't target hyperpigmentation if you're solely using cetaphil... I'm sorry it just won't happen.

    • @araah6086
      @araah6086 4 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      G preservatives do not affect negatively the performance of active ingredients

    • @samiadams3461
      @samiadams3461 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      You see this all the time and here’s why. Derms typically do recommend drug store skincare products... their cheap and easy to get your hands on. Esthetician’s care more about where the product is made and how it’s sourced along with the ingredients it’s made up by.
      It’s same with hair. Drug store hair care is not the same as salon quality.
      It all just depends on your budget at the end of the day. Do what works for YOU!

    I started using Vaseline on my face, neck and decolletage when I was a cash strapped student in the late 80s. I'm 53 now and am asked often what I do to care for my skin, because it's in good shape. Over 35 years, I reckon I've spent about $100 bucks on moisturizer, and happy to brag about that.

      I used to do this and my skin was the best. However I developed sun spots and from then on had to use sun screen. Complete turn of skin. I so wanted to continue to use Vaseline but I was stuck with suns spots and never been able to get rid of them. The more I try, the worse I have damaged my skin trying.

      Unsure, I once asked the beautician ladies at the store if it was okay to use Vaseline. They said, "oh no, never use Vaseline! Just keep using the moisturizer you're using already, and stick with that. You're skin is so beautiful and dewy and healthy, don't ruin that." Didn't get around to telling them, I was using Vaseline.

    THANK YOOUUUUUU for #10. I'm a gynecologist, and I spend so.much.time trying to get people to kick the feminine wash habit. Dr. Dray is 1000% right! Warm water and a nice gentle washcloth will do just fine to clean the vulva. (and don't even worry about cleaning the vagina at all. Totally not necessary.) If you work out or are sweaty/smelly, totally fine to use a mild, scent-free soap in the groin and over hair bearing areas. But keep that stuff away from the delicate tissues of the labia! They are mucous membranes, just like the inside of your mouth. And no one puts soap in their mouth!

    Oils can be helpful. I have eczema all over on my body several years ago. My dermatologist prescribed me Triamcilonone ointment and asked me to put a moisturizer on top after the medicine. I followed the order and skin got less irritated, but never clear up. After 2 or 3 years, I found the Viva sweet almond oil and I finally saw the light for this long journey. Only a momth of usage (lubricant everynight, especially right after shower), my eczema was almost gone! There are couple spots with persistent eczema still require medicine and normal moisturizer, but the rest area was stable with just the oil! Thus, I do think oils can do something good to our skin, especially to help recovering our damage skin barrier. I am still using my sweet almond oil to maintain a healthy skin and I love it!

      @@lisabaughn my Husband had a tub of fragrance free Vaseline lotion in his bag for work (he's a courier and in the winter time his hands get VERY dry) his coworker tried to push him into switching to this gimmicky 'organic' heavily fragrenced overpriced cream because "it's natural" and "Not putting all those chemicals on your skin!" He basically told her to mind her business unless she was his dermatologist. I was so proud of him

      @@SjofnBM1989 What a great story SB!!!! Perfect response! And I'm glad he's doing well with that lotion. Hooray!
      Same thing happened to me just today actually! At my orthodontist, the reclining dentist chairs face a large window that faces the sun during my appointments. Instead of waiting for my doc in those chairs, I now choose to wait in a different chair that puts my back to that window instead of facing it. It was overcast and snowing out today, and when I still opted for the sun-free waiting chair, one of the assistants remarked that there was no sun out today, like I was a little coocoo. I ignored and just stayed in my chair, envisioning my future pretty complexion.

    So very thankful and grateful that I found your channel. I’m old..almost 74 yrs old. Not bad...I’ve stayed out of sun and used sun screen for last 30 years. Used to tan...gave it up.
    You’re so down to earth, you’re adorable, you’re funny, you are truthful ( my gut instinct has been right my entire life..99% of time). No bs...just the facts. I buy some of the products you mention...Cerave, Cetaphil, day care moisturizers all contain sun screen. I’ve tried products when I was younger...but just rely now on simple, good quality facial/body products (because I’ve been watching you for 3 weeks ... almost every night before going to sleep. ). I know, for sure, when I was first hitting my teen years, I don’t even remember any eye creams being talked about. I was thinking...a few months back, do I really need eye creams? Thank you.
    I live alone...only child...single parent, hectic job...and helped raise all 5 of my grandchildren in between....and fostered/adopted several pets from animal shelters. Grandkids all grown up..busy with living life. I’m usually alone (but I did adopt 2 sickly stray cats .. both at different times. Some health issues...many losses of loved ones (both human and non human)...even my 37 yr. old daughter..so suddenly...heart condition. It runs in my entire family. Thought I’d be long gone by now.
    I’ve never used any type of foundation. I don’t like the way it feels. Had to stop working due to fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, bulging herniated disks in spine, sciatica (both sides...what fun!), arthritis, tendinitis, sinusitis, arthritis....and I’m a tiny woman.
    Been on my own a long time...never remarried...family and all my pets always came first. Still do. I’m very happy alone. I think I’ve grown and observed and learned, changed and evolved into preferring hanging with non humans now. Many adult humans just annoy me and exhaust me.
    Sorry, rambling. Just want to thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions, as a dermatologist...and as someone who just cares about others who don’t know any better...and we sometimes think the latest trend will help us look younger. Old age isn’t fun....but I’m calmer, wiser and have learned to live in the present moment. Took me years of sorrow and heartbreak..to learn about life. The only thing we have control over is our thoughts, our feelings, our perceptions, our opinions and our actions. So...now I kinda just try to go with the flow. And LIFE is so unpredictable and fleeting. I live each day as if it might be my last...still trying to help others (both family and non humans) when I’m able.
    Limited income...it’s hard...with a big human family, a tiny home (I think I mentioned I live alone)...and caring fir 13 feral cats (all tnrd), the raccoons, the opossums, the squirrels, etc... Best part...they all pretty much trust me...and they all get along.
    I’ve subscribed and will continue to watch your videos. You really are so darn cute...and thanks for sharing your time and for sharing your honest opinions. 💖💫👍😍

    About 15 years ago, I was having a terrible time with irritation and itching in the feminine area. I was about to lose my mind. It was hard to be in public because all I wanted to do was rub. All I ever used in that area was the soap I showered with. So I started researching and read an article that said no type of cleanser was required for that area of the body. It was hard for me to do, but I quit washing down there and only let clear water run down. The itching and irritation immediately went away and has never come back. And I realized that I am still clean in that area and soap or cleanser is not needed.

I only tried some cosmetic items only to find that they either dried out my skin leading to either/and dryness and irritation. items like rosewater or turmeric, I would just use in the culinary aspect.
    I learned is just to keep hands clean before doing anything around the face, and after the face is lightly washed with nothing irritating and drying, adding a light moisturizer to a wet face allows the moisturizer to spread evenly.
    I'm always washing my hands, and use far more moisturizers for my hands but in turn I don't have any worry about acne or anything causing infection or irritation to the face.

I don't wake up with dry skin anymore and i spend A LOT less.

    I have a friend who treated his glaucoma for years with eye drops which have the same active ingredient as Latisse. His lashes became a thick, tangled mess like a bristle brush, and his light brown eyes (he had been a ginger before going gray) are now almost black. Definitively this stuff has a strong effect but not always a beautifying one...

    I was told right when I started with cleansing and makeup as a teenager that using toner was the most important part of the cleansing regime. I use a non-alcohol toner and I love the feel of my skin after I use it. While my skin is still wet from the toner, I put on my moisturizer. Since following you, I quit using it for awhile but have gone back to it as I love the way it makes my skin feel. Plus, it's cheap, cheap to use, so why not?

    • @spanisheyes1958

      Same here! I discovered toner many years ago when they were used after cleansing to remove left over debris. I use alcohol free Thrashers rose toner because I love the scent and toner leaves my skin feeling hydrated and prepped for moisture and makeup.
      I do notice a difference when I don’t and do use toner.
      I also use facial rose spray for hydration and it does topically hydrate my skin. She is right that scents are not good for our skin so I may forego the rose scents once I use up my rose scented products.

Anyway quickly went right back when I realised half of hydrated and comfortable feeling after washing my face was the toner...

My husband is from the Caribbean and his mother used coconut oil on my husband since he was a baby to clean, moisturize, and protect his skin. Plus they eat alot of coconut and cook with it. With that said the coconut oil was handmade on the island from local coconut, no preservatives and all natural. It was used appropriately and not overdone. My husband has the best skin even at 43 and I think it was because of the coconut!

Thankfully I recently roped my mom into being an accomplice. Fingers crossed. Sadly in a weird way, both of them have good skin. I do not understand it. Unless they see ten new wrinkles right after coming home from the beach, I don't think either one will jump on the sunscreen bandwagon. Unfortunately, I am still searching for a sunscreen I actually like. I know I need to use it, I do, but I hate them. The makeup I use does not react well with silicones, which makes things even harder. Open to suggestions lol

    I've used oil on my face for over forty years in a winter, as no moisturiser stopped my skin from cracking. Prior to the oil, I used vaseline. I prefer the texture of oil. I no longer but specific facial oils. I just buy a small bottle of an organic oil to use through the winter. They treat the whole integumentary system which includes hair, skin, nails and physiology of them. They have to know all body systems, not just "skin." This includes cardiovascular, endocrine, circulatory system, skeletal, and so on. To limit their education to "skin" would pretty much label them an esthetician. I use it as a first step before my HA serum in the AM and PM and I've seen so much less inflamation and irritation. My skin feels moisturized and so well nourished which I havent been able to achieve with any other water-based product (I always include water based sprays/solutions before/after an HA serum so the HA has water to work with).

I boil 2 cups of distilled water, pour it over the petals, let sit 1/2 hour. Strain through sterile sieve into sterile bottle. Allow to cool. Store in fridge.

      I tried lash serum and I ended up getting really bad eye infection. BUT my lashes were so long so it worked but not worth my eye 👁. Even my doctor said to skip it not worth it.

      That's a great cream, I prefer the lotion and face lotion as they're more liquid-y and don't have mineral oil as an occlusive. I also suggest to use the mist right before using the cream to lock in all the moisture. I feels better than using the mist/toner afterwards for me and it makes more sense.

      I like to spray rosewater on my pillow before I go to bed.

    I really felt so happy to see a person loke you who is actually giving genuine solution, in this so called "BEAUTY INFLUENCERS" ERA you're promoting healthy skin not obsession like these influencers, I've been in this trap and I was doing all these 7step, 10 step...blah..blahh..it did nothing just ruined my skin and also waste of money, so i just stopped everything and started a simple routine including so skin friendly oils(trust me they're holy grail) thats it my skin got crystal clear and now I'm happy with my beautiful clear skin

    I was always skeptical about eye creams and never got any, now I can’t be more than happy with my decision after seeing this video.

    I have been using facial oil as a moisturizer for years. Because lotion or cream when constantly applying gives me pimples. I don’t know if It’s the emulsifier or not but water and liquid oil works fine on my face.
    However I should also mention that I live on an subtropical island where humidity is often above 80%, my city never see the snow and the sea is half an hour away.
    Decades ago I lived a couple of years in Texas and noticed that although Houston is not so far from the sea when looking on a map, the air really feels dry and my lips always crack for a week upon landing after a holiday back home. My nose had also bled a few times in Texas winter.
    When my father had to work abroad 20 years ago in a place where winter is always snowy, he had to apply pure horse oil that looked like lard because the thickest cream we can find didn’t protect his skin from cracking in harsh dry winter.
    So I believe when it comes to moisturizer, location of the place and where you grow up influences what type of products suits a person.
